classified as a "group" quest. All centaur on the way up the hill are normal, only the Khan is elite.

After you blow the horn, 2 khan guards run up the hill.

Then, 2 guards and an advisor

Finally, 2 guards, an advisor, and the Khan himself.

I had no trouble soloing up to the final battle as a combat-spec lvl 42 rogue. The 4-on-1 action killed me twice.

However when you die, the baddies don't disappear, they hang around waiting for you to claim your corpse, so if you're patient and don't mind dying, you can focus-fire, kill one, die, return, kill another, die, and then take out the last two, which is how I did it.

No major issues killing the Khan 1-on-1 thanks to disarm - he's a pushover without his axe.

I don't recommend trying to solo unless you are a few levels higher, and can do some decent crowd control. I may have been able to avoid death if I could thin the crowd more effectively.

attempted at lvl 39 hunter solo...failed miserably...does anyone know if i have to abandon this quest to get the mouthpiece again or if i abandon it will i have to do the whole chain again?

silly people on my server not helping out when someone asks for help :o(

Soloed as a 42 hunter. If you plan on dying, do not kill the Khan first. His body will not be there when you get back.

Regarding the mouthpiece, you have to get a new one each time you need to summon the Khan.

Solo'd as a level 43 Enhancement Shaman. This is the strategy I used;

Blow the horn, the first two waves are easy and shouldn't be a problem for any class around level 40. When Khan Hratha starts coming, focus your first DPS on the Advisor who heals. Kill the advisor, get pounded by the others, and corpse run. Return, the mobs should still be available to kill. I used a frost shock kiting method on the Khan, and focused damage on the other two adds while kiting down the ramp. If you can use a slowing ability on the Khan to kite him, while dps'ing the adds you should be able to get both non-elites down. Hratha is a strait forward fight, maybe grab a healing pot if it gets close.

Just a quick comment, Khan does disappear after a period of time. Gotta be fairly quick if you die. I only died once soloing it as a 42 shaman but Khan vanished right before I attacked him after I killed all of the others.

Mouth piece will continue to drop while you have the quest, no need to abandon quest to get another mouth piece.

If you are a rogue solo'ing this you should have no problem. Sap the Khan and kill the squishy first. Then his 2 buddies. Evasion and maybe a blind/bandage should get you through all adds before you die. Res, come back, kill Khan.

Took it as a level 40 hunter, died once.

The first two waves are easy, but it would have gone a lot faster with some more thought. MAKE SURE YOUR PET ATTACKS BEFORE YOUR TRAPS GO OFF.

First Wave: Place a freezing trap and kill whichever doesn't get frozen. Fire a single shot at the second one, then allow your pet to kill it while you regain mana. sometime before it dies, throw down another trap and heal your pet.

Second Wave: After your first trap goes off, lay another one. Kill whichever centaur isn't frozen. If the advisor becomes unfrozen at any time, make sure to focus fire them. Just pick them off as best you can. Don't bother with the freezing trap while you kill the last one, as the third wave will stop at the bottom of the ramp to the horn and walk up slowly.

Third Wave: Place a trap when you see the third wave coming up. You should get the Khan. Attack the advisor first. Activate Rapid Fire and burn down your pets targets as fast as possible, and keep healing up on your pet throughout. If you can, attempt to move the fight towards the bottom of the ramp. If the Khan becomes free, freeze him again. If your pet dies at any time, feign death, rez your pet, and try again. Once all three escorts are dead, bring the Khan to the horn. Take your pet's growl off, and if your pet has hate, dps until he targets you. Now, lay a frost trap next to the horn. This is the fun part. Now you just continue kiting the Khan in circles around the horn until he's dead.

That's my guide for hunters, I'll try and update as I level my other characters.

solo'd as a lvl 42 combat rouge my strat is:

1st wave stealth sap 1 take out the other then finish the last.
2nd wave to me was same as the 1st no advisor showed up so repeat step1
3rd wave and khan pretty simple stealth sap khan kill the advisor then hit the 2nd if khan wakes up vanish sap him again and finish off the last guy

i only used 1 sup heal pot and died 1ce cuz i accidentely alt + tab

Just solo'd as a 41 enhance shammy. As of at least patch 2.4, quest is no longer group. Just put down a stoneskin totem, healing stream, and magma totem, while I was dual-wielding both with windfury.

At the base of the ramp up to the horn Khan, the 1 advisor, and 1 other guard start slowly walking up to the base of the horn itself. Plenty of time to eat and drink after last wave. Dropped a stoneskin and healing stream totem then pulled them to me with a chain lightning so I had aggro on all 3 of them. Put down magma totem as I started to melee the advisor to take out the healer first. Then took out the 1 other guard before moving on to the Khan himself. Had to pop 1 healing potion, but if you're a little higher than 41 or have more than just 4 pieces of mail on you may not need to. No reincarnate or deaths. Pretty simple tank and spank as long as you take out that advisor first. Good hunting.

I'd like to note that if you die on your first attempt, but made it to the 3rd wave, Khan will still be there if you run back to your corpse.

Must admit that khans Shield Bash gave me 2 much trouble. Died twice as a lvl 42 paladin retribution.

for the locks doing this quest, make sure to train Howl of Terror before attempting to solo this, because u wont live without it.

being that i did have that ability i soloed this @ 41 with no problem but the fights were lengthy due to Khans sizable amount of HP

and as jmeyer said long ago, khan disappears if not looted right away.. even from 2.1-2.4

I must admit as a level 33 sub rogue I did pretty good on this quest. I couldn't finish the Khan but other than that I did well.

I put the mouthpiece in and went stealth immedietly, the two mobs came up. No problem, sap one stun lock other till he's dead, other one popped up before the first was dead so just used ghostly strike and was pretty hard to hit, kill the second after first is dead.

Go stealth immedietly after last one dies, next two will run up wait a little bit so your health comes back, then use the same tactic as first.

Now the tricky part comes, this is where I got owned cus the mob was so much higher level than me, I sapped the Khan, attacked the other one and used evasion and ghostly strike, putting my dodge up to 90% or something, after Kan pops out of sap vanish and sap again ASAP or else the mobs will regain health, start attacking some more then pop preparation and keep attacking, Khan popped up as the last one was at 10% or so, pop evasion/ghostly strike again and finish the mob, attack Khan till evasion goes away then vanish and cheap shot ASAP so there is no healing involved, I tried stun locking but I died I couldn't finish the Khan at level 33.

Well this will probably work after I'm level 38 or so After I get blind it will also be tons easier.

As a lvl 43 protadin I found this Q really easy soloable. I had BoW, Seal of Light and Devotion Aura on. So I never went oom or low on hp. Never needed to heal or drink =D.

Easily soloed as a 38 hunter, I just put a a freezing trap on each wave, let my pet take the aggro, and drink before the Khan wave. Finding the actual mouthpiece to blow the horn was much harder than the battle with Khan, if I think of it :)

Solod as a 37 combat rogue.

The first two mobs are level 40 non-elite, stuffed up the sap (they saw through my lowbie stealth) so had to blow evasion+blade flurry on the first lot. Second lot was easier as the distract kept one of them near the bottom, which made the one up the top easier to sap without getting spotted. Didnt need anything on them.

Immediately eat+restealth. Next lot of 3 comes up (slooowwlly) and as Khan is 42 I couldnt get close enough to sap anyone, so used blind on Khan and wailed on the healer until dead. Quick health pot and finish off the melee. Khan came out of blind in the middle of this somewhere, so used vanish to go hide on the other side of the statue and eat.

Waited until cooldowns on evasion and blade flurry were up, then took out Khan with another health pot on the way.

Anyone else having a hard time to be able to blow the horn? I'm standing 0.0001 cm away from the horn and got the mouthpiece but unable to blow anything.

Just wanted to say, that I completed this quest last night soloing it as a Lvl 36 Hunter, and it gave me 6000 exp instead of the listed 4300 experience. So they must have changed it recently so that both the magram and gelkis final quests now both give 6000 exp.

I solo'd this as a 37 ret pally.

First two waves were easy.

Third wave I blew Gift of the Naaru, Divine Shield (Two Flash heals + Bandage), Lay on Hands, and some health pot I got from one of the mobs.

This was a red quest to me, the chest piece as a reward is a really good twink 39 piece.
I have above average gear (no enchants yet) so maybe that's why I blew through this.

It took LOTS of kills for me to get the Mouthpiece, so don't despair if it doesn't drop in the first 20-30 kills.

Mouthpiece dropped at the rise to the horn. One of the Stormers was carrying it. It really only took 4. I did this quest for the Gelkis Clan.

Just finished solo'ing this as a lvl 35 hunter. Had to do the whole thing over again cause i accidentally killed Khan instead the guard and advocate first. went back and his corpse was gone.

took a while, but this is doable. i gained almost a full XP bar doing this cause if you kill khan and not his henchman and die, then you have to get another mouthpiece. that took killing about 30-40 MORE centaurs after it took that many the first time.

as a hunter though ill say this is well worth the effort. this page helped a lot as well. thought i was doing something wrong but it takes FOREVER for the mouthpiece to drop.

Even if you are like me and enjoy soloing difficult quests when possible, get a group if you do not outlevel the quest due to three reasons:

The horrible drop rate for the mouthpiece.
The Khan Hratha fight. I soloed everything else in Desolace but found soloing this fight impossible as a 36 balance druid.
The fact that the mouthpiece goes away when used, whether you've killed Khan or not! Khan and his men stick around for a few attempts, but will eventually go away, which means grinding for another mouthpiece.

There's a time and place for pride and this isn't it. If at all in doubt, get a friend or two to help you.

Quest no longer requires, "War Horn Mouthpiece" to blow the horn. Even though it says it does...just blow the horn.

quest is fun and is solo-able as a 36 rogue...just bring a pot or 2 and pray for lucky dodges and such...happy hunting and i think they upped the drop rate of the mouthpiece..only took me 7 kills to get mine but then again...perhaps rng favors me :D hf all

Solo'ed as 80 mage. quite simple, use frostbolts to kill them. Other spells that does damage works too.

The droprate on this quest is utterly horrible.
Took me 2 times kill all gelkins in the area and finally got it.
