When you get that bug where you can't switch between vehicle modes, it looks to me like you somehow get kicked out of the mission's phase or something...

The Frostbrood Sentries go neutral, the Scourge War Machines look to be already destroyed, there are no Gargoyles attacking you and there are no Bombardment Infantry to kill... the ghouls and bone giants seem to be the ones for the quest involving repairing the siege engine. Everything you do manage to get a shot on with your AA-rockets evades shortly thereafter like a normal mob would when it can't get to it's attacker.

This happens to me about half of the time I do this daily. Nothing you can do about it but wait the ride out and try again when you land.

Killing the quest enemies at range gives zero credit for the kill, try to focus only on killing the ones close to you (makes it difficult to finish this in one run if multiple don't attack you).

very funny, u dont need to change between bomb drop form and anti air form, just found out that u can use anti-air form to aim the ground and make damage, totally work, it's cd is shorter, and got more mana.

It seems that you can't use the dismount button at all during this quest. If you complete it 10 seconds in to it you have to ride it out. Unless that was something having to do with the above mentioned bug.

Okay, here's what I've found the best way to do this. (Remember, if you die you can always just get another bomber and you won't lose quest credit.)

When you first start, you are in the engineering stance. Your spells are to charget your shield and to put out a fire. Whenever you get a message that says your ship is on fire, immediately go into engineering stance and put it out. When you aren't attacking something and you aren't being attacked, it's a good thing to go to engineering stance and recharge your shield. You take less damage and keeps you from burning
We're going to start with the gargoyles flying around because they are pretty hard to get at the end, so go into your anti-air stance, and ignore the scourge on the ground. You aim with your mouse by holding down the right button and moving around. There should be a line showing where you are aiming. Aim the line at a gargoyle and fire off a few shots until you kill it. Then aim at another and do the same thing. Keep killing gargoyles until you move out of range. Don't worry if you didn't get all 20.
Charge your shield and go into bombing stance. Aiming is similar to anti-air stance, only there are crosshairs on the ground. When you fire, it drops a bomb into the crosshairs. Aim for any of the machines under you and shoot at them. Things get fun, though, when you get attacked by the frost wyrms. Whenever you see one coming at you, go into anti-air stance and shoot them. They each take 2 shots to kill. Whenever they lay off of you, recharge your shield and/or bomb some machines. You should have no problem getting all of them here. Just make sure not to die.
After all that fun, you begin to fly extremely close to the ground. Go into bomber stance and start dropping your bombs on the scourge you go near. Getting 50 should be easy. After you get 50, you should be able to recharge your shield and go into anti-air stance. Finish off the rest of the ghouls when you get near them. Once the quest is complete, you can either keep shooting until you return, or take all the hits you can until the bomber explodes and you are resucued and brought back to the base.
Turn in your quest and take your money.

This quest is awful. It took me 4 rides to finally complete it.

On the first run, I bugged out. Mobs started evading, and I couldn't switch between turrets. I ended up crashing.

On the second run, everything was going fine until I suddenly got mobbed by about 12 frost wyrms, and the panel began acting unresponsive. This time when I crashed I fell To my death. No rescue craft showed up and I had to fly back to my corpse, and then back to the quest platform.

Third run, bugged again. This time I had to wait til the ride was over.

Finally on the fourth ride through I managed to complete the quest.

It's very poorly implemented. I don't reccomend repeating it until Blizzard does something to fix it.

Oddly enough, when this quest glitched and I was stuck on the land bomber stance, I got experience from a few of the things I killed while I was bombing out of boredom. Namely the Skeletal Footsoldier and Enraged Fleshrender. Full experience with rest to boot.

i realy like this quest! had it bug one time and was stuck in anti air combat mode until i crashed but further everything was fine

annyway, while i was flying ive shot down 2 aliance and got the buff "Confirmed Kills (2 stacks)" does anny1 know what this is for? or is it just so you know that you defenitly shot the other out of the air?

Fun quest but takes about 10-15 minutes for the entire flight sequence and may take multiple times. Considering this doesn't even give reputation, there's a lot of other better dailies out there to do.

Since blizzard doesn't seem to give a rats ass about fixing this, does anyone have any idea how to avoid the bug? it's quite a fun quest if it wasn't for it bugging up for me twice in a row now and im not really patient enough to wait 60minutes to try again each time

I disagree with the above strategy. The Gargoyles will attack you from the start anyway so I always start with the infantry on the ground since you have to get 10 captains and 50 infantry. Once the gargoyles start attacking you, switch to missle fire and shoot them down, the go back to working on infantry. When gargoyles attack again, switch back and take them out. It's very easy to complete the gargoyles and infantry before moving onto phase 2 of the bombing run but if you don't, it's no big deal as you'll be coming back this way again.

Phase2 is a little harder, mainly because the frost wyrms don't aggro you in the numbers the gargoyles do. You only get one real pass at the Scourge vehicles and wyrms so you have to do your best to take them out in one pass or you'll be repeating the bombing run. Hit vehicles on the ground first, and then switch back to missle fire on wyrms that get close. I've found it easier to hit wyrms and gargoyles from a distance but once you're out of range of the vehicles, you're screwed. I take out the vehicles first and kill any wyrms that attack, then once I'm done with the vehicles I kill all the wyrms I can, including ones far away. Remember it takes 2 shots to kill a wyrm so you can pull far ones closer in with only 1 shot. You also need to lead your shots on the wyrms since they are constantly moving (and usually at a distance). If you shoot straight at them they won't be there when your missle arrives.

This is one of the most fun repeatable quests in the game. Good luck and good hunting!

P.S. If you can shoot down the opposing faction, all's the better! /wink

Well, this quest bugged for me twice. First time, I was stuck in the bomber position, so I just killed as many ground units as I could and then logged out because I knew what was going to happen. (and when I relogged, I ended up alive and in Ymirheim of all places :P) Second time, I was stuck in the rocket launching position, so I just shot everything that moved (and wtfpwned an alliance on the same quest XD) and rode it out. Third time, I decided to log out before trying again, disabled all my addons, (and even took it a step further and restarted my computer) and the quest went flawless for me and I was able to complete it. Now, I don't know what it is that's causing all these bugs, but we players should NEVER have to do all that BS just to get a freaking quest to work. IMO WotLK came out waaaay too early (they should have done a lot more rigorous QA testing and the beta testing should have been open instead of closed beta) and bugs / glitches / you-name-it seems to always be the result of a rushed product. Anyway, that was my two-cents, and also how I managed to finish this quest without bugs after completing the procedure I just mentioned. Even with all that crap it was still a fun quest. :D

i seriously think i'm done doing this quest , it takes too damn long, the threat of being shot down OR AND not finishing the quest are high .Not worth the annoyance.Icecrown isnt the most scenic place in northrend so yeah , BIG pass for me.

Such a long quest. If you were quick you could probably kill over 4 times of targets required while taking the dreadfully long flight across Valley of Lost Hopes..

Altough I need to admit it's very cool. Especially the bombardment part.

I haven't had these quests bug on me since 3.1.0 hit. Does anyone know if they have been fixed or if i have just been really lucky ?

Definitely fixed in 3.1 Hasn't bugged out on me since then. Also, one tip, Try to get the 50 infantry first, It's fairly easy to do this before you engage any gargoyles. Then, if possible, all 20 gargoyles before you get to the sentrys. Once you get all the objectives, just shoot at a fews sentrys to aggro them and let them destroy the plane for a fast trip back to the base, Use the same method if you're short in gargoyles.
It's faster to take the rescue craft back, fly out, tag the last few, then let yourself get shot down again.
This fast ride back method works for both quests at this location.

A good trick for this should you finish the quest objectives early, just deliberately let your vehicle die. Once it is destroyed, you will be rescued by a significantly faster Rescue craft. This will save you several minutes on each quest.

Important note I wished to add at the beginning, if you fail the quest, you can kill yourself (and remove your gear before you do that is a good idea) the 1hour debuff will be removed and you can retry it again now

This can, surprisingly, be done alongside Taking Battle To The Enemy, the Champion's version of killing Icecrown Scourge. It requires you to kill Cultists, and there just so happens to be a cultist camp by the infra-green launch point.
Therefore, just fire off a salvo of missles at the tents when you depart and return for this quest and its counterpart, and you'll get a few kills each time.

The bugs have been fixed. Works perfectly for me.

1. Bomb first, you can get nearly all the ground troops before the gargoyles attack.

2. Gargoyles: Kill all 20 before you get out of range First priority.

3. Finish the infantry if you need more.

4. Kill sentrys.. You should have all 12 by the time you get to the war machines. If one is still attacking after that, ignore it.

5. Bomb the 12 war machines (very fast).

6, Aggro a sentry or three with a single shot each, let them kill the plane for a quick trip back.

If you're short on infantry or gargoyles, let the sentrys kill the plane anyway, then take another run to finish up, and have the gargoyles finish you off for a fast return.

Now you can jump out during mission if you are done. A Horde Rescue Plane comes and picks you up and takes you to questgiver.

Still has bugs as of 3.3.2. I had it bug out on me today and I could out switch out of anti-air. Kills stopped giving me credit for the quest, and something of unknown origin kept hitting me until my plane was destroyed.

to slightly edit: It did work fine the second time. But don't be surprised if it glitches out once in a while.
