Summons a Level 70 non-elite elemental. Snares and slowing effects work on it so it's not very hard, but if you are not 70 you could always spawn it at Stormspire and the guards will help you.

The mob that spawns is quite hard.
They do arcane bolts that hit for around 750-850. After around 30 seconds of fight it does a spell called "Shadow Blast" that hit me for 3235 shadow damage...

So if you can silence save it for the shadow blast, if not you better run and hide or finish him off before he does this ;)

Killed him at area 52. Guards didn't attack him. First it was a tuft one, but started to go behind walls etc. and managed to get him down with a healing potion.

If you choose to change your specialization you need to drop tailoring and once you hit 350 again they don't have the quest ! above them but talk to the one you want to specialize in and they have a chat option about specializing. You then need to pay them 20g and that's it, you're specialized.

I just got my mage to 60 today (Having already been at 355 tailoring for a few levels) and was able to do this quest. So, you don't need to wait till 64. Of course, I needed someone to kill the wraith for me, but I'm now a level 60 Spellfire Tailor.

If you are a lower level trying to solo this, line of sight will help a lot. As a level 66 warlock, everything was being resisted. Summoning this guy near the edge of a wall (I used Area 52's walls) will give you a comfortable margin of error. When he begins the shadow blast cast, simply run out of his line of sight. Most of you will be mages taking this specialty, but if you are a warlock like me, curse of tongues will help tremendously as well.

Being a tailor, which you are if your doing this quest, it helped to silence his arcane bolts and then use a netherweave net on him and you can nuke him down from a range

As of patch 2.1 the beacon spawns Two of these elementals.

They hit hard and I would definately recomend asking someone around to help.

The nether wraiths can be summoned inside the Area 52 bank. The three guards in the bank will take care of them. Just be sure to dump enough damage into one so that you can loot it.

I wanted to switch to Shadoweave Tailoring last night, and after checking with the Spellfire Specialist, she said it would cost 150g to switch.

Is this the same for everyone? I remember when I was thinking about switching my Master Hammersmith to Armorsmithing, and it was only 50g, then 100g at another point... does this change wtih certain conditions?

2 x L70 elementals spawn and kicked my ass 3 times before I decided to spawn them just outside the Inn at Area 52. Ran in as soon as they spawned and did enough damage to get it to drop the loot.

Read - For those who do big damage trick:

Pretty Easy for mages or for who those that does big damage. I am a mage level 66 whit good gear and I just used my Arcane Power and my and my presence of mind and I critted about 7000 in 5 seconds. then I runned inside and the guards did the other job. so pretty much you have to do about 60-70% of the damage and then go inside.

Ok, it took quite a few tries as a 68 fire mage. However, with creative use of LOS, you can do this solo. Without this Line-of-Sight strategy, I stood no chance at all.

Summon them (yeah, two of them spawn now) right outside the Arena Vendor building. There will be two ogre thugs standing there waiting...summon in between them.

When they spawn, the ogres will net both of them in place, and yet the ogres will only attack one of them at a time. Since they are netted in that tiny hallway-like entrance, you can immediately run out of sight while inside the building. At this point they will both focus on the guards. Pick the wraith the guards aren't attacking and burn him down ASAP...with no regard to your mana. This should give you enough time to do a majority of the damage on the wraith while the ogres help finish him off.

If all goes well, you can loot it! You only need to get the majority of damage on one wraith to complete the quest. Good luck!

Don't know if it's because of my level or cause it was first time i've respecced but I paid 50g to unlearn and 20g to relearn so 70g total.

As a 69 Fire mage, I activated the beacon in the Area-52 bank, guards trapped it and I soloed it no problem, didn't even get me to 1/2 health. Best strategy yet. Just make sure to dot or dps it enough to get credit.

Just did it as a 65 Frost mage, only one mob was spawned, maybe it has something to do with the level of the user of the device.

There is an area in the South West corner of Area 52 that only has one guard spawn, i was able to use him as a tank and i was able to easily outdps him. Just make sure you nuke hard, the mob looked as if it was actually going to kill the guard, the net should keep it in place so you can nuke as hard as you want.

im making this post for people who are confused about what spec to go for in tailoring based on the gear that tailoring spec provides.

shadoweave tailoring: frost mages, shadow priests, and warlocks.
spellfire tailoring: fire mages, arcane mages.
mooncloth tailoring: any cloth-wearing healing class (and, i guess, for druids if they cant find good leather healing gear)(also makes 20 slot bags a lot easier to make.).

I've tried this loads of time using a single guard in Area 52 as a level 64 Arcane Mage, however I just couldn't do the majority of damage, not even using my cooldowns, it resists almost every spell, and thus I could not loot the Nether-wraith Essence.

However, when I tried it outside the gates with a kind level 70 Dwarf Warrior, it worked perfect, we did it in one time.

It shouldn't be a problem with a level 70 in your party, even though it deals alot of damage, so it would probably be good to pick a class with healing powers, or a class that can take alot of damage.

I just assisted a level 60 human mage with this quest, with me as a 68 dwarf rogue. We tried three times: once as soon as we got into Netherstorm, once just outside of Area 52, and once in the bank in Area 52.

Try as we might the first two attempts were failures--the first time the arcane blast took me by surprise and hit me for 3040, the second time I tried quasi-stunlock (I'm combat spec so I can't really stunlock.) That time was very close (we had him down to around 1000hp) but still no go.

Third time, the bruisers in the bank netted him and tanked him while the mage and I DPSed. I actually managed to pull aggro at the end of the fight, but by then he was down to 500HP and went down fast. There were three guards on him and I have a hard time believing we did more damage on him than the guards did, but the mage got his drop anyways. Maybe the guard damage is split between the guards, and I out-DPSed them individually?

Don't forget to use Dampen Magic while doing this. I went out there to help a mage friend with this once and it had never occured to her to do so...

Not sure if this was changed in the patch, but grabbing a solo guard in Area 52 doesn't seem possible anymore. I tried this on my 66 mage and wherever I spawn him, a Netherstorm Agent appears and "helps" us. I can't out-DPS them both..

I found this quest pretty easy as level 68. Well with a little help from the town folk of Area 52. I specifically went inside the town walls to 32,64 and summoned the Nether-wraith in front of the two Area 52 Big Bruisers. It takes about a second and a half for the Nether-wraith to appear and your want to hit an AoE blast attack like Arcane Explosion or Blast Wave to gain agro. I followed up with Fire Blast. This insures that you have the first damage and will get credit for the fight.

With the two Area 52 Big Bruisers (who are level 70 Elites) it is inevitable that the fight will be a short one given that the Nether-wraith is only level 70.

Guys, this is by far the easiest quest of all time. Go to Area 52, use the quest item near the guards and the Elemental will appear. Just make sure to attack the Elemental first and you will get the loot, and the guards will pummel the Elemental until it dies. Then you will receive the Nether-wraith Essence.

You apparently don't understand the most basic of WoW gameplay mechanics. If you attack first, it doesn't matter who does the damage, you get the loot.

Actually, this statement is completely false. Which can be clearly viewed when facing the mobs in Ymirheim. Go ahead and attack each mob once on the Assault by Ground. Once the team you're with kills them all, you gain -no- loot. You have to do a certain percentage of damage to loot them. So unless your server's been set to noob mode, I'm gonna have to call shenanigans on you.

So before you go trying to make someone feel like an idiot for stating their experience, make sure that you are properly informed.(##RESPBREAK##)652##DELIM##Neutronimity##DELIM##

Did it as a level 71 arcane mage, used frost spells as the mana things in this area are immune to all my arcane spells. Spawned it in area 52, the guards helped but I was able to loot it as I did most of the damage, and got first hit. Wasn't taking any chances however it works! lol

There is no cooldown on the summoning time, so it is possible to summon tons of these guys and have them destroy Area 52, provided that the guards get aggro and that you can keep yourself healed, because even at 80 these guys are strong.

I summoned and killed about 30 right after I got the quest in the lower left corner of Netherstorm without the essence dropping at all. I logged in a day later and summoned/killed one inside area 52 and the essence dropped the first time.
I can't be sure if the drop was due to me being in Area 52 instead some random spot in Netherstorm or me logging out for a while and coming back, but 1 of both helped for me and might help for you when you run into the same situation as me where the essence doesn't drop.

p.s. the spawned mob is lvl 70 non-elite as mentioned above and has 11k hp.
