The "you now gather from armed mining deposits much quicker" does not affect the chunks that fly away when you overload, meaning that even with rank 45, you will get the same amount of chunks, which is 4 if you're good and 3 if you're not.

100% not worth it. Rank 45 gives basically nothing. Character wasted. RIP. Lesson learned. Next character will be going for a different special, probably webbed for cloth.

Doesn't seem to make gathering faster, or decrease damage. I still die to these now and then, and generally avoid them as they're not worth the trouble.

The 40/40 trait "you now gather from armed deposits much quicker, resulting in a much lower chance of a pickaxe-related accident".
It effects your gathering speed of the "Chunk of XYZ ore" that scatter around when you overload an EZ-node. With the weaver pact buff + maximim aqirite/stormclaw/bismuth trees for deftness >> I loot the little chunks effectively instantly now, I barely see the cast bar. It means I can loot every single chunk and leave the explosion area before the timer explodes.
The timer explosion is still instant death. There is no protecting from that explosion in any profession talent.
IMO -- after you complete your Plethora of Ore + Mining Fundamentals + the generic "Mastering the Mysterious" tree... I think this "Outlawed Techniques" 40/40 trait is the biggest benefit to invest points in. Overloarding an EZ mine node is the most throughput in raw ore from using "overload node". So I figure getting even more ores from the little chunks is a good way to spend points after you have all the "best" profession talents complete.
