This buff was added in 5.3, so now instead of having twice as much health as an average battle-pet, it has only a little more, but takes 50% less damage. This was due to people using pet abilities that deal a certain % of the enemy's health as damage, because of their higher helath pools, it'd do big damage, trivializing the fight.
But it's not all bad. There are still few abilities that will deal damage which ignores this effect. They are:
. Pass the first round and let it take damage, and then on the second round, pop this ability. It'll deal big damage, and heal your pet for almost all it's health, too! If you have a pet that uses
, then this complements the ability very well. In addition, the elite pets cannot avoid this ability by simply going underwater or underground, it'll STILL hit them.
. Use a Mechanical pet (I recommend
, which you can use to protect your other pets). Start attacking the beast as normal, and then just as your pet is about to snuff it, pop this ability, your opponent's attack will land, then your pet comes back to life, after which your pet will really go out with a
. Just like life exchange, you'll do 600-700 unmitigated damage to the beast and will do even more if you use Sunlight beforehand, but unlike life exchange, if your opponent goes underwater or underground, the ability will be rendered useless, so watch out for that.
