The second attack portion may hit enemies that are normally unattackable i.e. submerged via Dive or in the sky through Lift Off abilities even though the first attack will miss. Gives you something to use if your health happens to be lower in what would have been a "Pass" situation.

If your first hit is a critical strike, due to the double damage checking the enemies' health after you attack, the second strike might not occur and the crit could have made you do less overall damage. Weird

This ability and similar others can be used on the Beasts of Fable to its full effect. Your pets' maximum health should be between 1000 and 2000 while the health of the Beasts will be 4000 or higher. This means that even if both pets are at 100% health, both hits of the ability will strike because, until changed, it looks like this ability goes off of the number of hit points each pet has, not the health percentage.
Upon 5.3, they no longer have a mountain of health. Now, they have a more reasonable (but higher than average) health pool and a buff that reduces damage done. It's still possible for this trick to work, assuming the pet that you are using has low enough health. It may not be the best strategy for these beasts however, because now they hit like minivans and a defensive strategy might be the better option.

From what I can tell this ability still seems bugged in its use, occasionally it will simply not give the additional damage regardless of health difference.
Tends to happen when both pets have low health and the numbers are close.
Perhaps the "lower" health must be a certain threshold beneath in order to proc? For example 15%?
Trying it more, this seems to be a consistent theory, reliably it doesn't strike twice with health slightly slower.

What most people think is that Pet 1's

and it hits Pet 2 for 300 damage
Pet 2 is now at 900 health and is now LOWER than Pet 1 so the extra damage does NOT proc

Noone esle mentioned it, but its works on BLOCK effects also, for example when enemy pet got dodge on himself and your attack is able to do double damage, first strike is avoided but second hits target.
This works only when next round effect disapear.
