Make sure no one's waiting at the area down the hill where it spawns... they'll snatch it from you before you get there after you 'activate' him. :/

I followed him to the area he indicated and he thanked me and mentioned the treasure. Nothing spawned, nor appeared in my bags. I figured it was bugged and moved over to engage a battlepet. During that pet battle, I could just see that the treasure Thaks mentioned had finally spawned in while I was watching. It looked like a rock next to the other rocks there.

It seems like his treasure can be in different spots. It will look like a rock and be glowing if you have highlights enabled. It's also not even where he led me, oddly enough. I came back the next day after I couldn't find it anywhere yesterday and gave up and found it at a different spot than the coordinates provided in other comments, at /way Isle of Dorn 36.9 42.2 Thak's Treasure (maybe)

It can take around 1 min before the treasure actually spawns. Atleast it did for me

Logging out and back made it spawn.

Didn't show up for 15 minutes after following him. came back DAYS later and it was there for me

The NPC never spawned for me, but I could see the treasure at 36.91 42.23, it just looks like a rock.

I think I bugged this for good. I talked to Thak during first days of the expansion and didn't see anything after following him like almost everyone here. I didn't relog or reload back then, but just went away to do something else. I've been checking since almost everyday but neither Thak nor the treasure is visible now. Relogging or reloading doesn't help...
