Ra-den is a Titanic Watcher assigned to Pandaria. He is like Thorim, Freya, etc. in Ulduar.
Dungeon Journal says:
Lei Shen's life changed forever when he stumbled into a dark chamber below what are now the Mogu'shan Vaults. Legend has it he found an ancient titan keeper guarding a miraculous device known as the Engine of Nalak'sha. No one knows what transpired between the two beings, but Lei Shen later emerged from the site bristling with the power to forge an empire. The keeper's fate -- and his current whereabouts -- remain a mystery.
Thousands of years of torture at the hands of the mogu has led Ra-den to believe the world is beyond saving. He's decided the only way to cleanse the corruption is to kill those corrupted - to kill
Sidenote: It was said early on in the 5.1 quests that the Divine Bell was "cast from maker's flesh." Looking at those nasty scars, I bet it was quite literally made out of Ra-den's flesh.
You can(could?) rarely get into his room with a LFR bug.
When you queue to the Halls of Flesh-Shaping and recieve an invite to the group that has already killed Durumu, sometimes it ports you In Primordius's room under the floor. (That's the exact place where he is).
You can descend the stairs, have some screenshots in his room with the "Attempts remaining" sign on your screen. Ra-den himself won't be there, though (there is no Ra-den on LFR difficulty, obvious).
May be fixed as now.
I'm thinking this is possibly a reference to Raiden from the Mortal Kombat franchise. The title for Ra-den is <Fallen Keeper of Storms> and Raiden was god of thunder... I see a connection here...
Anyone got an ability list?
View in 3d->Roar->^&*! pants
That dislocated jaw is seriously disturbing, but otherwise there's other animations i doubt would be in a combat boss.
We'll be seeing more of the titans soon.
Ra-den links to Rayden from Mortal Kombat (thunder god).
I think this guy is too much like Algalon... I thought when they said he will be like Algalon they just meant "a hard bonus boss", but their lore seems so awfully similar... Yes, a titanic watcher who wants to destroy a world because it is corrupted and changes his mind after seeing how tenacius the players are is cool, but they have forsaken any originality by making two of them...
Strategy for Ra-den (Will be updated with more information):
Shortly after the pull begins, he casts
, which will create
. When an Essence touches Ra-Den, he gains a buff, depending on the orb absorbed at the time if one is killed. He will constantly keep casting this in half-a-minute intervals throughout the fight. If he casts this, his toolkit will reset. He can only absorb one orb at a time, absorbing another resets the toolkit. However, his damage with that toolkit goes up by 10% each orb, creating a soft-enrage.
If he absorbs the Essence of Anima, he gains an Anima stack, named
, bestowing upon him his Anima abilities. It's not similar to
's use of Anima by any means, although the Anima was siphoned off of Ra-Den by Lei Shen. The Anima looks like a bloody red ball.
However, should he absorb the Essence of Vita, he gains a Vita stack, named
, giving him his Vita toolkit. Vita is unique to Ra-Den, as Lei-Shen twisted the harnessed Vita into Thunder and Lightning, taking away the Vita's stable nature. The Vita resembles a ball of blue lightning. Assigning groups and color notations should make things easier.
His Anima toolkit:
: Attacks his tank for... his current health at the time of the attack every 2 seconds for 10 seconds. Most tanks and/or healers don't like this ability, hence why the raid must kill Essence of Anima before Essence of Vita. It will take awhile to find out which spells can properly mitigate this damage, but experiment to find out if your tank can handle this.
: AOE effect, healers need to be on the ball to keep the raid up from this ability. It's a pain to live through, but it can be done. Another reason why raiders want Essence of Anima dead.
: Similar to Murderous Strike, but it is instead a flat 1m damage. Mitigation should be figured out to avoid this. From this point, you'd really want Essence of Anima dead.
, which hinders the raid similar to
and must be killed. Position and kill timing is critical, a bad placement could wipe the raid.
: You should let the Essence of Anima through only once for this, hence why I mentioned strategies on how to counter his Anima abilities. You need this to survive
, but you must be willing to pay the price for the DOT effect.
: The raid must be condensed near Ra-Den because of this. If you move too far away, you will wipe the raid, and the tooltip of the spell makes it obvious that you would should you not follow tooltip directions and stay near the raid to soak the damage.
Now for his Vita toolkit:
: Similar to Murderous Strike, but mitigation falls onto the tank. To counter this, you must learn how your class functions and have a Deadly Boss Mods-style mod open telling you when the ability will occur. Kills pets, making pet classes having a harder soloing time in the future.
: Similar to
, this add will annoy the raid to the point where it needs to be killed. Add needs to be kited away from the raid, when it is dead the tank or DPS who is handling it should return to the raid.
: A flat 600k damage is done to everyone. Here is to hoping you can bounce back from this, even with
. Requires intensive healing.
: Spread out so you are the only two people to be affected with Vita Sensitivity, things will go downhill if the rest of the raid is affected by the debuff.
Ra-Den is holding his ground at 40%, and he begins to channel his hatred into the Anima and Vita and corrupting them into
. By this point, the raid must always kill the Corrupted Anima and survive the increasing AOE caused by taking in the Corrupted Vita. It's a fight of endurance and surviving abilities given by the Corrupted Vita and healing given to him from the Corrupted Anima until he reaches ~5%, admitting defeat and giving loot.
Figure out how not to kill anyone on the first attempt and you win

, <Method> for their kill video:
, and information by Danger Dolan's guide here:
Looking at what he drops, he pretty much drops BiS gear.
No, he does not appear if you for some reason are also able to get bugged and fall through the floor in normal difficulty.
To get to ra-den boss you have to kill all bosses in tot on heroic dificulty. Works same way as bot in twilight hinterlands. Happy hunting :D
His name could be a reference to the Japanese god of thunder and lightning raijin also known by the name of Raiden.
Ra-den... much like Raiden.
I'd like to buy an 'i'.
What did I win ?
On a more serious note:
I don't get it. First they start implementing LFR so that everyone can see the raid content and then there's such a 'hidden' boss. Now we have LFR but still can't see all the content - unless we start raiding on a heroic level. Beats all reason for LFR.
Also the dungeon journal:
Should be an ingame help but yet it's completely useless there. Things don't make sense there anymore.
Blizz f*cked up it's current game concepts with this guy.
His name is most probably taken from the
from the nobles of the island Java in Indonesia.
Since he is a watcher over the world by the "creators", he is below "Raden Mas" as "Raden".
got some attention with a recent hotfix:
"Ra-Den's Murderous Strike should now be slightly less murderous, periodic damage dealt should no longer incorrectly scale up as the player was healed."
(laughing at "less murderous" part)
Disappointingly easy to solo as a Mage :
Taking the Elemental Artifact
here does nothing.
I was a little bit sad.
Vengeance Demon Hunter 851 /w 875 Weapon
killed me because the boss does not know
killed me because the boss does not know
=> It is bugged right now because Ra-den does not know Demon Hunters.
3rd try: Did it as
(849 /w 863 weapon) and
killed the boss
. This was possible because my dps was high enough to bring him into phase 2 before he could cast
I just soloed Ra-Den on 10H with a Arms Warrior (GS 834). Wasn't even particularly difficult, just stood there and spanked him and pretty much ignored his attacks, my health never dropped below 50%. I can safely say that all Throne of Thunder 10H is completely soloable by a reasonably geared Arms warrior with the exception of Lei Shen and Dark Animus, which I was able to defeat after several tries but ended up having to switch to Protection for the extra defense.
soloed 10m as a feral (ilvl 842) after 5 failed tries.
the trick is killing the white anima. after that boss spawns a worm. i killed the worm to make things sure. i got to phase 2 after 2 anima phases. after phase 2 its just nuke.
note that i did it without resto affinity. so you wouldn't have healing problems with resto affinity at all.
Easy to solo as of 7.1. As a Unholy DK at 858 Ilvl I was able to burst him down and kill him in 31 seconds. I didn't drop below 98% health. I'm sure any DPS with some gear can do the same.
Easy to solo on 10-man, on 25-man with 2 people we were getting one-shot. Finally found a guide. When you initially pull him keep him at his spawn spot, then when the orbs spawn pull him slightly in the direction the blue (vita) orb spawns this will push him into the Red (or Anima) phase. At this point you have to have the dps to push him down below 40% before the next set of orbs, then you are good.
Not terribly difficult to solo on 25H as a hunter (probably any spec) as long as you've got some gear (I was 861) and some buffs (food/flask/pot). Nuke on pull, wait as long as you can before you allow the blue orb to hit him, and ignore the adds until he transitions, which needs to be before the orbs from the second cast of Materials of Creation reach him. When he does transition, kill the add that spawned, then just burn him. It may be a good idea to bring a healing potion, too.
Edit: turns out you can use Aspect of the Turtle and survive if the second orb hits him. Your pet will die but, while aspect is still up, you can safely resurrect it.
For those who have been asking, you can't clear ToT 25 Normal then switch to Heroic when you get to Lei-Shen, Lei-Shen will disappear and you'll get locked to a heroic raid with no final boss or way to spawn Ra-den, gotta clear it 25H full clear.
Ra-Den himself, 10-man is trivial(Kill the blue orb then burn).
For 25-man though you need to put a touch of thought into how you burn him, he has 34,388,036HP, and you need to burn him to 40% to start Phase 2(IE do 20.6 million damage) before he can absorb a 2nd orb. If he absorbs a 2nd orb, you're dead, murder strike will happen and there's no way to survive this solo. If you let him absorb a Blue orb, you're insta dead, because he puts a debuff that gibs you if it's applied twice, which happens immediately if you're solo.
So what do you do? Pull the boss away from where he spawns, if you're melee just drag him back a few feet from where he spawns and keep him away from any walls, always make him face the middle of the room(He sometimes can spawn an orb right next to him if he's near/at a wall), when the 2 orbs spawn, kite him away from the orbs for extra free DPS time. When they get close make sure to kill the BLUE orb, he'll absorb the red one automatically, then continue your burn until 40%, when he spawns 2 more sets of orbs, do not kill either of them, kite him and burn him and don't let him absorb a 2nd, if he does, you're dead, he instantly acquires 100 energy and murder strikes, or goes into blue phase which again will kill you solo. Basically, you have roughly 1 minute from the time you pull to do 20 million damage before a 2nd set of Orbs spawn, this is your time limit/DPS limit if you're not close to 40% you need to either pot, flask, or get better gear.
When P2 starts kill either blue or red orb, it doesn't matter which at this point and from there it's just a simple burn for the remaining 13.7 million HP. Kill the Phase 2 orbs that slowly float towards him if you're low hp or concerned about your damage in-take. Also stand in melee range in this phase or he does an AE pulse that does extra damage you don't need to take.
I soloed this on 25 as an 865~ Arms warrior around 25 AP. Every guide I read seemed to have the orb function poorly explained, so I died a lot to him absorbing the wrong orb--I had never done the MoP raids at current, so I was fuzzy on mechanics. It's pretty much just a DPS race for soloing, and even as geared as I was (mythic progression raiding at the time) it was still very close and took some RNG to burst him to phase 2 in time without using things like drums or Old War. Nonetheless, it still took me less tries than Dark Animus on Heroic 25.
How to get to him - after Lei-Shen click on the pad in the middle.
Soloed him as arms warrior (ilvl 879) on 25 player mode. People keep advicing to feed him the red ball but something happened that killed me every time, something like a debuff that after 3 seconds you just die with no damage taken in the combat log whatsoever. So I fed him the blue ball and I burst him as quickly as I could and he went down.
Just DESTROYED him on 10H with an 881 Hunter. Blew all my cds and he was dead before any orbs hit him. BUT after he did his speech and took off, the chest stayed unlootable :( Is this a bug?
If you lack abilities to kill the orbs in time, drag him into the vita orb, he will consume that one and then straight after consume the anima orb meaning the anima buff will overwrite the vita.
As a 930 Outlaw rogue I just burst him down on H25 in about 10 seconds, then I died. I got credit for the kill, but I had to release and run back. Still no idea what hit me.
For anyone asking about soloing as Mage. The orbs are bugged. I recommend last second Ice Block when you kill him.
: If you have your Loot preferences set to "Personal Loot" the
will bug and become unlootable. Set your loot options to group loot for this boss.
7.3.5: Bosses such as Ra-den and Sha of Pride cannot be soloed anymore.
Can anyone confirm, and why the &%$# would Blizzard Devs do this.
I'm guessing Friday's maintenance is going to resolve the scaling health issue in MoP raids as it has seemingly made this boss in 25-Heroic temporarily unsoloable.
Soloed on 25 HC as an Outlaw rogue with 938 gear.
Stand next to him, slightly to his left and pull. Immediately blow all your CDs. When an orb eventually hits, use Cloak, can't be sure post kill but this seemed to negate any insta kill mechanic.
In the centre, just finish burning him down.
Overall, an easy kill.
Solo'd in 7.3.5 on 25H as a 913 Arms warrior with drums using Prydaz and Ayala's. So that you don't get one shot, make sure when the first orbs spawn you drag him into the lightning orb first, so that the unstable vita buff gets overriden by the anima buff. Beyond that just do a lot of dps and you'll kill him before any of his other mechanics even go off (killed him in 49 seconds w/ about 920k dps which isn't even impressive).
975 Blood DK. Popped Augment Rune, used a Prolonged Pot, and that's it. No food/flask/drums.
Made him take a lightning orb to the face, then just killed him.
Easily soloable now.
As of BFA Pre-patch this boss can be very difficult without a friend. Definitely do the boss in dps spec with drums, pots, etc. I was able to do it with a warlock/balance combo and died immediately after he greened out for us. Scaling is broken.
As of the BFA patch, this guy is insanely hard, but doable. On my 202 ilvl demon hunter it took three tries. I only had the Repurposed Fel Focuser on me (no food or drinks or drums). When the second orb was spawned I popped Blur and used a combination of Metamorphosis and Fel Barrage to take out the remaining 2-3m hp. Went down before the orb hit him.
So it's essentially a dps race, but if you have a burst power class then you should be able to do it.
Be forewarned... that damn chest bug still exists. Unlootable for me :/
As an Assassination Rogue it's not even a challenge. Just use normal PvE rotation like previously and with 230 ilvl i reach easily 500k dps for this fight.
This fight is incredibly easy if you destroy the Vita orb (the white one) before it reaches him. Soloed it on 25H as a 217 Windwalker Monk without any pots or anything.
I'm gonna try to explain every relevant aspect of this fight, as this seems to be buggy or random or whatever (it really isn't and there really isn't much to this fight if done correctly)
"Phase 1" is 100% to 40%
During "Phase 1" you need to stay in melee range of him, if he has no target in melee range he does dangerous things (not sure about this in Phase 1, but no reason to not be close to him anyway)
During "Phase 1" he eventually casts 2 orbs (a white one named Vita and a Red one name Whatever) - Unstable Vita is usually the thing that one shots you in "Phase 1" and this can be completely avoided if you kill the white orb (Unstable Vita doesn't go off if the orb die before reaching him)
"Phase 1" shortened: Stay in melee range and kill the white orb (Vita)
"Phase 2" is 40% to 10% (dead)
During "Phase 2" he goes to the middle of the room and summons an add that is completely irrelevant, so you can ignore it or kill it or dance with it if you want. What is relevant here is the fact that he goes to the middle of the room - You NEED to be in melee range of him, otherwise he casts Ruin Bolt which basically one shots you, he on the other hand doesn't cast anything if he can melee you
"Phase 2" shortened: Stay in melee range
I'm pretty sure it's that simple, but feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken (If you ever got one shot by the add after dancing with it, let me know)
Gl and hf peeps!
Does anybody else is like me? cause im a rogue that tries 2x per week sometimes 3x Ra-den in 25H to drop Twist-Toe Tabi
and is been 5 years that i CANT drop that boot to complete my set.
Imagine waiting over a thousand years in darkness, in silence, just to die at the hands of 25 or 10 adventurers....
I'm starting to be convinced that solo killing him on a leather wearing character bugs the loot box. Works every time on my cloth, mail and plate characters, but always bugs on my rogue or monk. I only noticed this because I have all the transmogs except the leather ones.
Ra-Den is only available to kill after defeating Lei Shen on Heroic 25-Player difficulty. After killing Lei Shen, there will be a short cinematic of the stairway opening up in Primordius' room. Clicking the Displacement Pad will take you there. If the Displacement Pad takes you back up to the platform above Lei Shen, you are on the wrong difficulty setting.
Killed Ra-den after reading the reviews.
Took no time to kill him, was walking him backwards to the centre as per the 40% phase change.
Didnt kill anything else, nothing else spawned really.
Does anyone know if you can still fight Ra-Den as of BfA? I dont seem to be able to get his chamber to open after defeating Lei-Shen.
He says there is seething corruption below. You have earned the right to try to fight it. Does this ever happen?
I think you have to specifically set the raid difficulty to heroic and not mythic in order to unlock Ra-Den.
So you finish, kill them all. How do you exit this place? Let me guess, hoof it all the way out, hearth or portal.
