You know initially i thought this quest was kind of sad, you know little girl loses her precious balloons but after doing it and seeing her fly away with the balloons on her back i kinda felt bad.

Lol. I think they should have a series of quests where you rescue Vin and make her a questgiving person based on her observations of flying around the Eastern Kingdoms.

As of pure boredom, I flew with her up in the sky. She despawns at about the same hight as the highest point of the cathedral.

As I turned in the balloons and she started to rise into the air I gasped. The panic inside me was doubled as my paladin and maternal instincts screamed out, "What have I done?" I motioned to the little girl to grab my hand but she was content floating upward...upward...upward...but to where? That is what I feared.

I mounted my blue proto-drake and attempted to follow her. The wind was calm and she rose from Azeroth straight and gently. As the initial shock and worry passed, then came the selfish thoughts, "Oh boy," I thought to myself, "I am so going to get in trouble for this."

The seconds seemed to pass by like hours as I tried to negotiate with the thrilled little Vin. "Take my hand! Don't do that! Its too dangerous!" but she wouldn't be dissuaded.

"How am I going to tell her parents? Wait. She's near the orphanage. Maybe she doesn't have parents. That's good. Right? No parents. No trouble? Forsooth! Those are not the thoughts of a paladin! I should be ashamed of myself."

Then she disappeared. Vanished. Midair. Just gone. My heart skipped a beat and a tear rolled down my azure blue cheek. She was gone. I helped her go. I contributed to her most likely demise. But where did she go?

I landed my drake back down on the ground hoping Vin would still be there. Hoping what I had seen was just a sick illusion or nightmare, but alas, only her faithful and abandoned pet, Dotty, remained.

As I dismounted my drake I fell to my knees and wept. How could something so harmless, so innocent, turn into something so tear wrenching? And where did that sixth balloon she gave me come from anyway? Kneeling in a puddle of my own tears I felt a wet, squishy nose rub against my arm. It was Dotty. She must not have realized what had just happened to her owner. Clueless and innocent. Now all alone in a cruel world. The tears cascaded down my face like a waterfall.

My weeping was interrupted by a small voice. "Hey, blue person."

"Wha...what? Who is that?", I saw no one around me as I looked up.

"Down here."

I looked down to see Dotty staring at me.

"Yes, me."

"You...you can talk?"

"Why are you crying?"

"Because, your owner, your friend Vin, she's gone. I'm sorry. I was just trying to help."

"She didn't disappear."

"What? I saw with my own eyes."

"She logged out."

"What?"

"Yeah, she logged out. She just conned you into giving her flying at level 1...for 12 silver."

*crickets chirp* o.0

Her coordinates are 58.8, 52.8.

She's located a bit to the right of a tree next to the passage between Cathedral Square and the Dwarven District.

Everyone else was doing this when the patch came out, so of course I didn't.

If you can't find the little brat, she isn't actually *in* the orphanage. She's at (58,52), on the inside track of the southeast corner of Cathedral Square.

As others have speculated, Vin is indeed more than likely a reference to Mistborn. I was skeptical until I put two and two together. The Horde opposite of her named Jaga has a pet named "Spooks". Spook is a well-known character and has a romantic interest for a brief period in Vin. This may be a stretch but "Dot Lin" is Brandon Sanderson's publicist whom he thanks regularly (Vin's NPC dog Dotty). Jaga I do not believe is a reference at all (or none that I can connect).

To clarify on the speculation yes vin is a reference to mistborn I know this because these quests were made for the Make-a-Wish foundation. I had been diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma and my wish was to go to blizzard and have my own toons put in the game. I loved the book series Mistborn so i named on of them after the heroine. Also her pet Dotty is the name of one of my two dogs, the other is spooks, although at first I had completely forgotten about Spook in Mistborn mostly cuz I remember by his first name Lestibournes. Also Jaga is a thundercats reference, mostly because thundercats was awesome and also thundercats was my arena team's name, and I was a mage named Jaga, I thought it was good fit

They have changed the ending a bit at some point. I just completed this quest on 2/25/13 and after she floats up, she stops about even with the top of the cathedral and hovers there for a minute before suddenly disconnecting from the balloons and plunges to her death...... or so you think.

Apparently, space goat hooves are *very* impact resistant.

At least she doesn't abandon her pet anymore.

The joy of getting my alliance balloon was completely shattered by the fact that I probably just helped to get an infant killed and got a dog abandoned in the process...... D:

Almost all the comments here are completely worthless. Vin is in Stormwind at 58.9, 52.8. Turn on Trivial Quests from your minimap. If she doesn't have a quest then bring in a different toon. You've either already done it here or on the horde side. For the quest, you run around Stormwind and collect 5 balloons, all at ground level. When you turn them in, you get the balloon pet and she floats up to about the top of the Keep. After you relog, she is back on the ground.

I was chillin on my mount in the sky, moving items in my bags and she soared up past me I guess, I didnt see her but I saw her calling at me in chat, thanking me. I didnt do anything, but ok dude,.....

Usually I finish the quest and take off to something else, but I followed Vin's ascent today and to my horror, she detached from her balloons and fell back to the ground. Or maybe not the ground. I couldn't find her. I looked in the trees and on roofs, but no Vin. At least no "Vin, Level 1 corpse."

This quest made me feel worse than when I kill a mother bear. No more favors for small children in Stormwind.
