Krol the Blade
can be found in
, on ground level - he stands right next to the wall. He will assault you with the following spells:
frontal cone that he will use every 15 seconds or so. The easiest way to avoid it is to just step behind him.
- Krol will gain this stackable buff every so often during the fight.
- Summons an easily defeatable
. The Quilen has just under 200k health and could (and should) be burned quickly to avoid needless damage..
As a bit of trivia, his name is obviously a reference to the popular Classic weapon

I killed him on Anastaria 8/10/12 and got Ancient Krasari Helm and Qu'nas' Apocryphal Legplates.
Not too challenging to duo at lvl 89. For us, he dropped
Hunters: Make sure to Tranq Titanic Strength from him when you can.
According to an interview with Ghostcrawler in
, Krol will also drop a rare elixir.
Who: Krol the Blade
Drops: Elixir of Ancient Knowledge
What it does: Increases experience gained from monster kills and quests by 300% for a full hour.
I forgot to log my first kill of him, where he dropped the potion. Ill continue to document my kills.
Killed at 5:25PM EST/ST at the listed coordinates. (Did not drop the potion.)
Killed at 6:30PM EST/ST at the listed coordinates.(Did not drop the potion)

Is in there a weapon called Krol blade?
This guy is heavily farmed for his Elixir that gives a 300% bonus experience bonus to alts under level 85, but like all the vanity and fun items from Pandaria rares, it's not a 100% drop. However, its either not *that* low, or I'm super lucky because I've killed him twice and gotten the Elixir both times. It's probably just a statistical anomaly given my experience with other rares with fun items, but in any case, the drop rate's not rare mount levels of low or anything.
All Mogu Warriors use the same set of mechanics.
Devastating Arc is the only ability of a Mogu Warrior to be really concerned about. This attack causes heavy AoE damage in a large area in front of the caster. Simply step through him to avoid it.
Titanic Strength is a stacking damage buff. It can be dispelled as an enrage effect, otherwise just be ready with a self-heal.
Summon Quilen summons a weak add that can be totally ignored. Kill it with AoE, cleaves, or DoTs, but don't worry about focusing it down. Its attacks are totally negligible.
Just killed him as a lvl 86 Blood DK in bad gear, lol. Blood has even more ways to survive now, with Necrotic strike and death siphon. I lost the first fight with him, but i made a lot of mistakes, I didnt continuoulsy heal myself and didnt just walk through him when he starts to do Deveastating. Also save vampiric blood and Icebound fortitude for the end, where he's going to hit you the hardest. Do vampiric blood then Death Strike and any other healing ability, like Seath Siphon to maximise the healing of Vampiric Blood, I didn't use any instant healing pottion, but it would be good to have one handy incase you get in a bind.. He can hit really, really hard, so don't let your HP get much below half, if you have about 200k.
Finally got what i wanted from him. Sunday seems to be a great day to fight him, not many ppl around. I actually saw him from across the area, and dashed at him, I was not prepared, so lost the first fight, but was able to come back from the grave and fight him again,(very rare, becuase others will take over the fight) , this time i got ready, since i didnt see anyone arround. He does not respawn in the same spot always, i made the mistake of thinking he did, and by the time i noticed him on a different spot, someone else started the fight, and ones that's done, he gets to loot if he magages to kill him, but if he dies the next person who attacks him and wins gets the loot.
Ive seen range fight him, specifically a lock and, it seems easier as his AoE are not wide enought to hit a full range class, just as long as your pet or minion can keep agro on him, or otherwise he will chase you.
I have the potion drop for me on the 5th kill, this is a fairly easy fight compared to other rares. If he casts Devastating Arc just run pass him. I find it easy to dodge (even for casters) when dpsing him on a melee range.
He does indeed drop the Potion of Ancient Knowledge, I got it on Oct 20. The potion is not useable by characters over 84. That being said between that potion, rested xp, and the monk quest that gives 50% xp for an hour, I took my monk from level 23-35 in an hour :)
Doing this to up my first alt.
1st Kill - Gear Drop - 04:04 or so.
Not that hard to kill with frost mage.
Killed him twice in row
1. 10:50 GMT +1 - Dropped Elixir
2. 12:20 GMT +1 - Dropped Elixir
so i guess i was lucky :P
"More skulls for the pile..." Seems like a champion of khorne has found his way into Azeroth. Boy that wont end well
Soloed him as 89 BM hunter with corehound on ferocity today. The information from the guide below is correct. Simply stay behind him and kill the quilen he's summoning. Make sure to keep Mend Pet up at all time. When you see him casting his summoning spell, place an Ice Trap between him and you. Then taunt the quilen and kite it until it dies, to avoid some incoming damage on your pet.
My pet died once (at around ~25%), don't panic and simply throw an Ice Trap and revive it.
Took me 3 (?) tries due to respawn of the mantid in his area, its helpful to kill them right before you pull Krol.
Not to sound like a tool.... but the Devastating Arc, I believe, is more than just a frontal cone ability. I died 4 times using the highest ranking post's tactics. I had to run behind him quite a ways before I would avoid that spell.
Is anyone having success in getting the Elixir to drop?
I have killed him 15+ times and no drop. Still camping him though!
Devastating Arc has a larger range than what is displayed on the ground. It extends further both in front and behind him than the animation shows. As stated above, the easiest way to deal with it is to walk though Krol as he begins the cast. To give you the maximum amout of reaction time, stand as close to him as you can and still melee/cast - to the point that you are almost inside of him. If you don't have a running speed enhancement of some kind, you will need the extra tenths of a second.
Also, don't use any AoE unless you want those spiders that are running up the wall and climbing it to aggro you. They will leave you alone as long as you leave them alone.
I have been farming this on different days, usually in the morning. Killed him at least 40 times now, still no drop. I have no idea how people killed it twice and got the potion on both times.
Update: Still keep killing him, killed around 60 times in total. Still no drop :/
I soloed this guy as a level 90 Prot warrior with a gear score of around 430, The Devastating Arc ability MUST be avoided, As someone already pointed out just run through him and then turn around, His Summon Quilen ability is actually useful for a Prot Warrior as they are easy to kill & then you can use Victory Rush or Impending Victory to get some of your health back, I also used Enraged Regeneration twice on this fight, Shockwave will interupt both his channeled abilities, He can also be disarmed. It's a pretty easy fight, Not alot of running round (just through him back and forth), There are trash mob spiders close to him, Kill them before pulling him just in case.
Killed Krol five times today with the spawns being as follows:
If you are having problems with the Wowhead map like myself, and have TomTom, here is a waypoint to a spot that I found suitable to farm him, since you can see all of his spawn points by rotating your camera.
/way Dread Wastes 73.5, 21.6 Krol the Blade
Hope this helps! :)
This info is from my personal experience, farmed this guy for 2 weeks now, got 7 flasks total.
Spawn time: around 1h 30min
Around 8-9% drop rate (had once 7 kill-streak without 1 flask, so be ready for farming)
BoA flask, can only trade with characters you have on the current realm.
300% exp gain + I can confirm that the exp stacks with heirloom items and guild perk. can only be used on lvl 84 or lower + I can confirm that If you DIE, you will loose the flask-buff so be carefull!
Happy farming, Deadmouse - Grim Batol :)
Killed him late last night, but, unfortunately, the elixer didn't drop.
Did it on a 90 BM hunter with a ferocity pet and 463 item level. If you're a hunter this fight shouldn't be the slightest problem. I autoshot him for about 2 minutes while my pet tanked (mended once) as I waited for a guildie who wanted credit for the kill.
His arc is nasty, though, as the 90 feral druid found out that rushed at him right as he did it while I was waiting for my guildie.
AffeGaming says the respawn is about an hour and a half, so i made a DBM macro to help
/dbm broadcast timer 5400 Krol's respawn
i found krol @ 73.2/20.4,if your a clothie like me the devastating arc is exactly that lol, however i started my attack @ 72.6/20.8 a rounded rock out crop, my pet went in ,and by adjusting camera angle i was able to fight while just being out of range of his arc.while attacking with my normal rotation and periodically healing my pet i was able to beat him and got amber-starched robes out of the loot nice:).note: the way i see it you have to find what advantages you can when your not a kick-ass tank :) also thanks to argent-sun and sharkon for their posts v v helpful :)
Solo'd as a lv 89 Sub Rogue.
Started of with Premeditation, shadowstep followed by an ambush.
Important to keep your slice and dice up!
Also important to keep recuperate applied to yourself!
Now how did I manage to stay alive from this as a Rogue with little healing factors?
Most of the time I ignored the quillen pet he has and kept DPS on him because I knew my health wouldn't last so it was very much a dps race. And every so often as he'd cast Summon Quillen I would interrupt with a gouge.
Use Shadowblade every time you can because you need 6 combo points at all times. When you are below 40% health you are in trouble so this is what you do:
-Blind Krol the Blade and make sure you have full combo points on him.
-Recuperate and just stand there healing until you have a great portion of your health back.
You can even fight the quillen (if it's out) so you can use Shiv on hi (leeching poison effect instantly restores 5% of your health). As Krol is blinded, you can even refresh your recuperate by building stacks on the quillen or if you have the glyph that refreshes you slice and dice/recuperate on kills, then even better!
-Ok if Krol is still blind, you pretty much fight him again.I used blind twice in this one fight. Always hit him with rupture and always keep it up.
"Catch your breath tactic" - With Rupture on Krol you can gouge him and let your recuperate heal you for the short time he's disoriented and rupture do damage if you specced in to Dirty Tricks. And if the quillen is out, use the Leeching Poison shiv effect!
-Slice and Dice very important, keep it on at all times.
-Recuperate is the single ability that will keep you alive in this fight even if takes blinding him and sitting there for 15 seconds waiting for your health to climb back up.
-Rupture for an obvious reason.
-Leeching Poison + Shiv combo, tops of your survivability.
-Shadow Blade to spam combo points on Krol.
-Evasion for obvious reasons.
Solo'd as a 89 264k hp geared Shadow Priest. Used void tendrils, You can use them on the boss. When you do, shield them because they go down alot. can't hear boss, but you can fear the quilen he spawns. Kinda a long fight, but easy also.
is the Elixir of Ancient knowledge 20 charges or a stack of 20? the pic shows a 20 on it, so i wanted to clarify
Krol was an ogre guard captain, who allied with the Orcs in the very early stages of the horde's development in outland while under the control of Kil'jaeden.
He and those he commanded contributed to the fall of Shattrath City.
Something very Strange happened I use the silver dragon addon to search for npcs it triggered when i was flying over a chasm between steepes and dread wastes at 48.0 95.0 COmpletely across the way from where the current information states
Can be soloed as a combat rogue, apparently drops Elixir of Ancient Knowledge which grants 300% experience increase for 1 hour. Has a 9% drop rate according to Wowhead and does not work for players above level 84 (1-85). I used this while raising a Paladin and went from 81 to 85 right before the elixir ran out by getting my friend to run me through cata dungeons. The 300% works with quests, it also stacks with rested.
Just killed him at 1:52am server time on deathwing, and he did drop the elixir.
does anyone know what his spawn rate is? Or how often he spawns
I've been farming Krol and tracking his spawns and drops for the last couple days - mostly in the mornings, not nonstop, but I'll continue to farm and track as I'm trying to get a few elixirs. Spawns are as follows, all times are Pacific Standard. (Kill) denotes a time when I logged in and he was already up - exact spawn time unknown - and (spawn) obviously denotes a time when I saw him spawn. His timer seems to be approximately 1 1/2 hours, with some variation (~10-15 min either way?) - I attribute the smaller gap between early morning kills to my low-pop realm, potentially leaving him alive for 15-20 min or more before someone comes along to kill him.
As far as I know, all of the rares in a given zone spawn at the same time, but it will only be a certain number of the possible rares for that zone. (IE, if Dread Wastes has 7 rares, 4 random ones will spawn at the same time, then 4 new random spawns ~1 1/2 hours later.) This accounts for the 3-hour gap between some Krol spawns. (However, this is obviously only educated guesswork on my part.) Hopefully this is helpful to someone!
8:38am - (kill) - Chestplate of Manifest Dread & Small Bag

5 hours of farming, got 1
2 minutes after using it a 90 horde kills me, can my luck get any worse.....
Just want to post my comments on spawn timer as most on here seem to state 1 1/2 hours.
Been farming him a lot since release, and have found that on my server atleast, his timer is closer to 50mins to 1hour 10mins.
Im picking it depends a lot on the other champions in the area, and found that when I killed him, if I went around and killed the rest of the champions in Dread wastes he would spawn after roughly 50mins.
Also today to my amazement he spawned within 30mins of dying. I noted his corpse stayed for a lot longer than usual after the kill I missed ( more than 10mins) and I came back 20mins later and he was there!
Which annoys me more than anything and would explain times where I've come back 45mins after a kill to get the next spawn and he would not show, and seemed to skip a spawn.
Whether or not he can infact skip a spawn or just spawn really early I'm not sure.
Krol has about a 10% chance to drop the
Elixir of Ancient Knowledge
his spawn time is not an hour as many people have been saying, his spawn time is 50 minutes, give or take a minute or so, I have been camping him and checking every 10 minutes to see if he was up, so I can now tell when Krol will spawn. I will be camping him and uploading data and writing up a guide on him which I will put a link to in the comment for this post once its complete on when he will spawn, what his abilities and how hard they hit and how to handle him no matter what class or spec you are. Well happy hunting and hope your next Krol kill has a flask drop.
Ironically he seems to be wielding the item hes based on.
Krol the Blade can be found in Dread Wastes at 74.5, 22.9. He spawns every 35-40 min after you have killed him.
Spawn time is not between 1 hour - 2hours. Spawning for me every 40 minutes to a hour. Killed 35 times total have netted 5 elixirs.
I've killed Krol 104 times, 3 elixirs dropped. I think it's fair to say that the real drop rate is 3%.
That being said, even with the most careful planning such as the max 25 quest turn-ins waiting, someone to summon you to the turn-in spot, and a quick couple runs of dungeons, you'll gain at the most 5 levels per elixir use, even with full heirlooms, the dread pirate ring, guild perk, the darkmoon fair buff, the rested buff etc.
Which is about 5 hours of normal dungeon grinding. So don't spend too much time camping this guy, it's not worth the benefit. Just check on him as you fly by, maybe wait a few minutes because he tends to spawn on the half hour (12, 12:30, 1) every other day, and on the hour (12, 1, 2) on the off days. Not that this is certain, but its usually the case.
That being said, it sure is fun to watch your toon jack up 5 lvls in an hour! Whee!
If it isnt obvious from the list of his drops. everything he drops is practically useless to a lvl 90, which happen to be the only lvl besides 89's who may encounter him. He only drops high ilvl 85 gear apart from the XP boost elixir. I wish the drops were BoE so i could atleast pass them to my other Alts.
Seriously.. this mob is like THE hot spot currently.
Tried multiple servers to check if it's alive there. On all servers i saw people camping there.
Going to try it tomorrow morning and see the results.
Will post it here.

Got the Elixir on my 3rd kill. (89 Frost DK)
His spawn was 40 mins each time.
Very happy, This makes leveling my druid so much easier, Good luck all.
We can all post our spawn timers but lets summarize:-
Spawn timer is 40-50 mins
I have camped this guy on a busy server after each kill it seems that providing you get there 40 mins after your last kill, he WILL spawn there or thereafter,
I killed him like 100+ times and got:
Respawn timer is 30-60 minutes.
Edit: There is no way for a 0.15% dropchance for
. I got 4 of them in a row today!
are now 12:30
he has not yet Respawn(##RESPBREAK##)520##DELIM##Onyx1831##DELIM##
If you're serious about farming this guy, there's a few useful things to have:
An alt to grind with in the 30 minutes post-kill where he can't spawn. Granted, if you're farming this guy for the elixir, it's safe to assume you have an alt, but you'll want to get something useful done with them during the downtime period.
A target+attack macro. Two lines should be enough: "/target Krol" "/cast " While mounted in the center of his spawn points you can idly tap that every few seconds, getting a "You are mounted." message so long as he's not there. But the
he spawns, you're already targeting him. Find his dot on the minimap, mouse-turn to fly straight at him, then once you're in range, dismount while mashing your macro button. Fire Blast, Flame Shock, Charge, whatever works. The first priority is to get the tag. Once you have that, you can settle down into your usual routine and kill him.
A second monitor and a movie. WoW on one screen, and a DVD/Youtube/Blip/whatever on the other. If you're going to be sitting there for up to a half hour, might as well put up some entertainment while you keep peripheral vision on Krol's spawn point.
I camped Krol the Blade on 3 characters across 3 realms for 7 hours.
Below I have included a table of all the times I killed him I don’t think I ever missed a spawn after 4am so people can use this table to calculate flask probabilities as well as average respawn rate.
-Marked in Bold are the times in which I found an
-Marked in Bold Underlined are the times I found a
From my observations I have found that the average spawn time feels to be around 40-50mins with a minimum wait time of 30 mins and maximum of only 1hr 10mins. The table shows the chance of respawn with the time since last kill.
Time since last krol the blade kill (mins), Chance of respawn (%)
- 30 to 40 minutes (20%)
40 to 60 minutes (70%)
- 60+ minutes (10%)
These are of course my findings and anyone else should feel free to argue this was just the general feel I got throughout my 7 hours across 3 realms.

7:01am 5:49am 4:01am

The XP Potion is only one time use. I only ever got it once, out of like the 90 times I've killed him.
Popped this baby after completing 25 quests.. turned in one.. and I flew over a Northrend alliance town.. got shot down and died before getting to use it AT ALL.
Learn from me!
I don't trust the drop rate's listed percentage chances at ALL. I think they are way, way off for some reason. I use the wowhead client app and submit my data often, but obviously my contributions alone aren't going to impact the numbers hardly at all.
At any rate, I kill this guy usually twice a day every day, and I can tell you that the most common drop I get is one of the least common according to the data here, the
. And I've gotten the
about 4 times in the last two dozen kills or so, giving it a drop rate more like 17%, a far cry from 0.7%. And, out of what I can best estimate as about 100 kills, conservatively, I've only seen the
Elixer of Ancient Knowledge
drop once, giving it more like a ~1% drop rate.
At the one and only time it dropped for me, a level 87 guildie was nearby who I knew had a lot of low level alts, and I invited him to join me for the kill in case he could potentially use the chest armor drop that is just vendor trash to me. When the Elixir dropped I felt guilty rolling on it since I invited him to join me, and I passed and gave it to him. However, now that I know it's a one time use only, I'm not that sad about it anymore.
Oh, and there's NO way the
Small Bag of Goods
drops as often as 1 in 5 kills, it rarely ever drops for me, maybe 1 in 15 or more kills. In fact, the only rare spawn in Pandaria that I find often drops a bag is
in the furthest Northern central point of Townlong Steppes, and it's the epic bag
Big Bag of Arms
. It's always worth killing this guy if you're near him and he's up, because he actually dropped that bag 4 kills in a ROW for me one week, killed once a day for 4 days straight. Admittedly that was a one time freak event, but he does seem to drop it pretty often, 1 in 4 or 5 kills and it's contents are much better than the green loot bags the rest of the rares like this guy drop. Just a random tip while on the thought.
Anyway, just my two cents on this guy's loot table and seemingly to me at least, way off percentages as listed.
I have must have been super lucky today, I had it drop 2x in a row. Luckily, my BF had just logged in a few min before the 2nd time and he was able to finally get one too. *Happy Dance*
killed him three times today and got 2 potions
waiting on his 4th spawn atm
got 3 in less than 24 hours
For me Krol spawned:
Lol guys realm hop to farm the potion, but it only works to 84. What's the point? Exp has been nerfed so many times from 1-90 that leveling is a joke. You could gain the levels on your alt you want to skip by just playing instead of farming these.
I farmed this guy for about 12 hours and can say pretty much his respawn timer is 45 minutes sometimes around 47 or 43 but in those 12 hours it never took more than 47 minutes to respawn.
I would like to state the 40-60 minute timer people have been stating is misleading, he spawned for me today at 16:07:05 according to NPCscan, he then respawned at 16:39:00 and then a final time at 16:59:52 for me.
i don't know about any1 else but I seem to have awful luck after 5.4 I paid tp transfer to a lower server cause stormscale was so camped and now I have killed 32 times over 4 days and haven't had 1 drop I starting to think it been removed from him
Very east as a 497IL frost mage. the quilen doesnt matter to me, as i can freeze it and just concentrate on Krol. killed like 12 times or so and only got 1 potion so far..will update for timer..in my experience that is. good luck all
Yet another mob or NPC or alien whatever that completely and totally ignores pet aggro. Sure, it's kind of fun to eliminate everything you've learned in 85 levels and start over, except why not just switch to another character? I assume I'm doing something wrong because every Huntard is just that but I don't have this problem with other rares. Maybe it's "On Monday, all rules are off." I didn't get all these guys to 90 over 9 years by killing squirrels and chickens. L2P? Yeah, right. How many times?
Grrrr. I'll shut up now. To be perfectly frank, if this guy dropped some interesting loot, you wouldn't be seeing this post. I have always believed that the reward must match the effort, and 99.9% of the time it does. Maybe we're spoiled. Blizzard is so good at this that its infinitesimally small number of errors show up that much more. Oh, did I mention how happy I was about the two plane changes to get back to your corpse? : D
After killing this guy over and over for potions for various alts (around 200 kills so far) it's worth mentioning that by far the most common spawn time is 40 minutes. 41 to 50 minutes is the next most common and then 30 to 39 minutes and 51 to 60 minutes seem around the same - both lowish odds though. If you want to farm Krol successfully you need to do some planning, as he's a very popular target.
A good strategy if you see someone camping him and can't be bothered to wait around to race for the kill is to note the name of the person camping. More often than not they'll log out after the kill (as let's face it, it's boring sitting out there waiting for a spawn) and then you can check their Armory to see when they looted the blue item. Pop back 35-40 minutes later and then you're likely to be there when Krol pops again. For whatever reason, people assume the spawn time is 50 minutes and log on around 45 minutes after a kill. I've killed Krol many a time and then as I'm flying off I see the (unfortunate) person who last killed him log in.
A couple of tips if you kill Krol and plan to come back for the next spawn. Check to see if anybody's around - if not, loot everything and then immediately sell the blue item. That way the corpse vanishes in short order and people using the Armory method (as above) won't see anything, even if they know you're often camping Krol.
For hunters, using the Aqua Jewel is a good idea - it turns you translucent blue and you can't be seen easily. If you're flying up near the battlements people won't notice you - and thus won't be quite as obsessive about flying in the second Krol spawns. Note that it only lasts 10 minutes, so you'll want to wait until Krol is due to spawn before using it.
Using Aspect of the Beast is handy if there are other hunters nearby, as you won't show up on their minimap. Again, if people think they're alone waiting for Krol they won't pay as much attention and you can often swoop in as they're getting ready.
The above points may seem a bit mean and mercenary, but if there's one thing you'll learn by watching Krol spawn it's that it turns into a free-for-all - definitely a case of first tag wins! Thankfully now I'm down to the final alt (which I'm raising for jewelcrafting, the last tradeskill I need) I won't be after him for much longer. Just as well, as he's by far the most popular Pandaria rare (on my server at least!)
After 22 tries I finally got
While getting armor every kill, there was also one
that dropped on day 1
Day 1 Spawn times and time between spawns
Day 2 Spawn times and time between spawns
Tips on farming this item:
1) Krol the Blade
Elixir of Ancient Knowledge from
Krol the Blade
(respawns 35-50 minutes in NE Dread Wastes).
Macro for instant Krol the Blade tag upon spawn (it is often camped - try to use ability that doesn't need you to face target and has 40 yard range. Stand at tree with eggs/3 spider web lines and spam macro - can reach most spawn points from here):
/Target Krol the Blade
Tip: If you have a guildie/friend/2nd account, you can have that person tag the rare, stay alive until you sign in/get there, invite you, then both characters eligible to roll off on it. I used a second account to do this a few times.
2) Daily Archierius kill
Elixir of Ancient Knowledge also drops from Ordon Sanctuary
Archierius of Flame
lootable once per day (respawns 45-90min) - the area that you need legendary cloak to get into. I can solo him as 576 ret, it's rather hard, get a group instead. Clear area, max range ability to pull without aggroing high priests. Loot is still per person even if in a group so don't worry about rolling off against others in your group for the Elixir). (The Three Breeze Terrace Summoned Arch is just a copy of this guy)
Archierius of Flame
in Three Breeze Terrace (can only summon once and loot summoned Archierius once (per 90 character)- use 500 Timeless Coins for Scroll of Challenge from Vendor near Emperor Shaohao - requires Honored Rep with Emperor Shaohao to purchase - on east side of Celestial Court, goto Three Breeze Terrace NW of Celestial Court and click rock to summon him. If you don't have rep ask in general for someone to summon for you (tip. If you have rep but need coins, kill Evermaw, the summoned ship (both 60 min respawn timers - RareCoordinator addon tracks their time since last death if you want it), Huolon, or Cinderfall/other rares to get coins. (Big rare mobs drop 1k+ coins)
TLDR: Park a geared alt at Krol the Blade spawn, note time of death, come back 30 minutes later to wait for next respawn. During those 30 minutes swap to main and go and kill Archierius of Flames on Timeless Isle. I got 3 flasks in 24 kills of Krols/Archieriuses.
i think the droprate of Elixir of Ancient Knowledge might be too high. I have killed him 160 times now, has not dropped yet and it says droprate 10%, so I should have like 16 now in the most common scenario? Ehm?
I have added a simple Google docs form to show some more drop rate info for
and Spawn time of
Krol the Blade
*Use the form to submit your results or to see other's results.
I killed him 5 times today, trying to get some
Respawn time was 40minutes for the first 3 spawns and 50minutes for the last
Spawn location was 74.45, 22.90 the first 4 times. The last spawn was 73.19, 20.16
I got 3x
(kinda lucky) , 1x
, and some blues
Good luck :)
In the 30 times i have killed him in the past 3 days (not lying about the 30)
have gotten the elixir only
In his 40-60 minute respawn he spawned a lot in the 55-60 minute range.

From what I've seen he spawns every 30-40 minutes and for every second kill he will drop a potion.
Or maybe that's how my luck has been thus far!
Went on the Shaman to see if he was up cause i wanted the Elixer for my ally project, and bam, hes there.
Killed him and got Elixer of Acient Knowledge it off the bat.
Sent it to the ally project, went from 12 - 22 in just an hr!
Good lord thats some potent speed leveling!
Don't waste your time attempting to obtain the elixir.
I killed this mob roughly 100 times in the last 10 days (premade group finder server hopping) and got exactly 2 Elixir of Ancient Knowledge drops.
The drop rate of the elixir is closer to maybe 2% than 10%.
WTF, for some weeks now I've been seeing this rare on the minimap when I fly over, but he disappears when I come near. No body, no other players near, it just vanishes. Pretty annoying.
Seems to have been nerfed since last patch. before patch, roughly one elixir dropper per 5 - 10 kills (10 if very unlucky). After patch, on kill 37 now and not a single thing to show for it. This elixir is literally the only thing that makes me enjoy leveling so i'm a little upset that its much more unobtainable now.
My best advice (for farming the
is to (once you have found the respawn time on your server) set up an alarm (35 mins)
and then just meanwhile go serverjumping with the "group finder (premade groups - custom)" and just put on all the countries

(most ppl know but if you dont know.... do not search all names at once because then nothing will show up :D only search one name at a time)
Edit: fixed the links to only be item names + took away some crap that wasnt usefull
With all the realm hoppers you will be lucky to get the the kill at all but the drop rate is so bad for the potion its not even funny. Blizz please up the drop rate on the elixer there is no point in spending two days farming for nothing biggest waste of time.
Krol the Blade
The time you spend camping for this potion, you probably could've just levelled your character up instead.
After three kills I found an Elixir of Ancient Knowledge.
Also a friend got an Elixir after his first kill yesterday.
The dropchance isnt that bad as the former comments say. The Krol spot is farmed heavy on all servers. Thats a sign for a dropchance thats worth farming it!
Has Krol been nerfed as of patch 7.0. I have farmed him before and got my potion after a few kills, farming him now and had 8 kills with nothing maybe just been lucky in the past but would be nice to know.
Seems like Krol has been stealth nerfed in the prepatch of Legion. Killed him 15 times - no elixir.
Krol has definitely been nerfed. He is no longer a rare mob and does not seem to drop the Elixir any more. 8^(
It can confirm the elixir no longer drops, killed it 10+ times with 4 man multiboxing, not a single elixir drop.
9 kills and counting. No elixir drop yet... >:[
Given that the Elixir has been removed from
Going To Need A Bigger Bag
, it's safe to say it's gone, and Krol won't drop it no more.
Killed him 9-10 times today, still no potion. :(
EDIT: Spoke to a GM that said: Hey there,
Thank you for contacting me today I was happy to chat with your for a bit.
At the moment it would appear that alot of other players are also having this issue in being able to get the Elixir.
Its something that has been escalated to the developers for some time now.
At the moment it would be best to avoid trying to farm this as it would be frustrating.
Best of luck and have a great weekend!
So today I decided on Farming the Potion while lvling an Alt.
Still pretty camped even two Add-ons Later.
07:48 (46 Mins)
08:36 (48 Mins)
09:26 (50 Mins)
09:06 (40 Mins)
Missed Spawn (Somewhere between 35-39 minutes)
10:25 (Somewhat like 40 Mins)
11:27 (42 Mins)
12:06 (39 Mins. Rare was Already Live)
12:55 (49 Mins)
Not a Single Potion dropped, and it's easy Farmable if you check the spot every 40 Mins after the last kill. But know i'm sorta dissapointed. Cheers
EDIT: According to a lot of comments the potion might have been Removed
It is incredibly likely that, like others are saying, this item is either bugged or removed. Over the past few days I have accumulated over 80+ kills of this mob, with only a few small bags of goods dropping and no potion in sight.
Whilst this might be down purely to bad rng, I am convinced otherwise. I opened a GM ticket and, whilst they gave an incredibly generic response, they did recommend sending in a bug report. It'd be a shame if Blizzard has indeed removed this potion, but I hope I can at least save a few people from the hours of frustration I went through!
I used to farm this way back and had several accounts on several low pop realms with a set schedule.
I came back today to have a look since there changing leveling and rapid Elixirs have GONE TO crazy prices.
Anyways to the point, after several kills i noticed something has completely changed. Everyone has personal loot ( the blues and what not everyone gets it now ) Wasn't like that before i remember on my REALM HOP ALTS i always had to pass on loot.
This change alone makes me believe 100% there is no elixir anymore.
Can someone confirm that the xp potion still drops in bfa? I've killed him over 20 times and I've got nothing.
Hi, to all the players farming Krol in BFA. I've just killed him about 40 times, and still no drop. It would indeed seem that this item is removed from the game, or at least from Krol's loot-table.
Confirming that this creature does spawn at regular intervals (usually up once an hour or so) as of the date of this posting.
ill paste this here too;
okay, so a semi-confirmation is this;
15:57 : At this point it's fair to say it's either bugged or removed. The Devs haven't confirmed which it is but until they do it's safe to assume you cannot get more of them
15:57 : elixir of ancient knowledge* i might have wrote it wrong
15:57 : yet it is still not a definitive answer?
15:58 : are we assuming that we will get a definitive answer?
15:58 : or is this a polite way for you GMs to say "no it does not exist anymore" :D
15:58 : More or less, polite way aye
15:59 : We don't even know if it was intended or not but after years with no word it's not likely to change in my experience
15:59 : Of course without the Devs openly saying that's the case I wouldn't take that as final
so tough luck :(
From Vlakor on the actual page for the potion.
I can now confirm 100% that the item is no longer available in game.
Straight from a GM:
"My name is Game Master Bliathiss and I'm here to help!
I understand you're wondering if the Elixir of Ancient Knowledge is still available in game.
I can say that this item was removed a few patches ago. There are currently no plans to bring the item back. If you would like to see this change, please leave your feedback for the development team on our community forums or using the in-game feedback feature in the help section of the game menu."
