Grom’thar the Thunderbringer is the eldest living shaman of the magnataur race, and one of their strongest warriors as well. From his home in the Dragonblight, he commands about fifty other magnataur, which is quite an impressive feat. As he continues to gain support, he plans to attack a large civilization — likely the nearby trolls — to force them into servitude.

Solo'd as a Prot Paladin. High block value and he pretty much cannot hurt you (barring his Thunder spell). Just watch the knockback from Thunder and easy enough.

Be very careful when fighting him, as his knockback can toss you over the cliffs and into the water which resets him. If possible, pull him north of the ring a little bit.

Solo'd this guy alone as a 75/76 hunter (don't quite remember)
The Titan's Path is a crumbled road next to where Grom'Thar spawns, thing is, I found myself a rock that Grom'Thar could NOT walk over.
What this means, is that I could practicly shoot him until he had walked around the rock, then jump over the rock fast(to avoid him starting to evade) continue shooting, again wait till he comes to the other side... rinse and repeat.
Took me somewhere around 5 minutes or so
Don't know exact coordinates to this rock, but it is very close and should not be hard to figure out where it is. Also, I guess this strategy only works for ranged.
Thought it was worth spreading the 'news' incase you can't find a group for it or whatever :)
Edit: Posted a screenshot showing what I meant

Solo'd as 75 Death Knight (Unholy). Put on tank gear, Frost Presence, use Bone Shield (make sure cooldown is finished as well). Horn of Winter, as always. Stam food is good too.
Don't fight him near the cliff! He uses that Thunderstorm ability shamans have to knock you back.
When Bone Shield drops, put it up again immediately. When that one drops, use Icebound Fortitude. By the time IF drops, Bone Shield should be ready again.
Use Death Strike whenever possible (make sure diseases are up).
Good luck!

Soloable as 73 retri paladin... but it is recommended to take a group as the fight will take about 15 mins due to lag of dmg cause you have to wear deffence gear, had him on 50% when i got borred of the fight...
just use seal of wisdom, judgment of wisdom, and have the tallent judgement of the wise... that should keep your mana high most of the time so you can cast holy light every time it is needed witch is about every 5 sec... if you get lo on mana at any point you can use divine plea...

easily soloed as a 74 blood DK with 14k hp, 16k armor in frost presence.
just make sure you always have frost presence on
This is what i did:
-i started the fight by putting mark of blood on him and i hardly lost any life (he hit about 400-500 on me with 16k armor)
-when the mark was gone, keep diseases on him and use death strike whenever possible to keep your hp up (and rune tap)
-when he gets you to about half way, pop up icebound fortitude and keep using your death strikes and rune taps untill he's down
in the end, the fight lasted only about 2 minutes

Solo'd as a 73 prot warrior, gear was mostly ZA/70 badge level.
It involved Retaliation right out of the gate for quick rage, two pops of Lifeblood (yes it took three minutes), two pops of Figurine of the Colossus, a potion, a Fel Blossom, Shield Wall, and Last Stand.
I had about 1k temporary health by the end. It was pretty awesome.

Soloed as a 73 Ret paladin! I surprised myself.
Made use of lay on hands, divine shield, divine plea along with one super healing potion and lots of self healing. Used judgement of light, and cast a good few holy lights during the fight, also made use of any instant cast heals I happened to proc through art of war.
Gear was mostly an s3/t6 mix, made use of a 30stam food buff, blessing of might and ret aura.

Level 76 Hunter - 11711 health unbuffed - 1846 AP unbuffed
Pet - Gorilla - 10247 Health unbuffed (& w/o Last Stand up) - 17052 Armour unbuffed
Easily soloable for a Hunter w/ a Gorilla, spec'd for tanking.
No need to kite or do anything special. Here's what I did:
Send Gorilla in. Pop a Mend Pet immediately, then MD on pet. Go to Bestial Wrath. After BW is down, hit Last Stand and Taunt (to keep aggro), Mend Pet. Then proceed to ensue your wrath upon the beast.
Be sure to keep Mend Pet and Scorpid Sting up to maximize your dmg, as you should be using Glyph of Steady Shot.

Easily done as a 75 warlock using sl/fg spec dressed mostly in quest/tailored greens.
The intercept is a little annoying but not really much of a danger. My usual boss solo strategy worked fine; curse of weakness, siphon life, corruption, and then immolate if you feel like living dangerously.
I had a moment of panic when I took agro but a quick soulshatter took care of that.
A pretty straightforward fight.

Comments from plate classes saying they soloed it are really not helpful. As a disc priest, this guy was very tough. He dual wields, and with Inner Fire on, hit me for around 1-2k per hit (that means 4k crits). I barely managed to kill him at 80. I was down to almost no health or mana when he died.
If you can't take the hits, then you'll probably need help with this guy. Even if you can heal through them, you may run out of mana before he dies.

soloed as 74 sl/fg lock. I dragged him out by the bridge. it was very easy but took forever. I used siphon life and corruption + pet healing to not draw aggro from the pet. He occasionally knocked the fel guard back towards the cliff but I just set pet to passive and brought him closer to me.

just a tip to any DKs trying to solo this guy. use the rock, and this rotation works pretty well : Icy touchx2, blood boilx2, death coil until runic power is gone, use ghoul whenever it's up for a slightly shorter fight, though it gets killed pretty fast by the knockback

Deed done as a 76 prot warrior with average gear. HP slightly less than 16k. The tactic was mostly running back and forth over the above mentioned rock while CD on Shield Block finished, then smacking him up good when I was "invulnerable". Just be careful not to make him evade and regenerate. I had 25k dmg. taken throughout the fight (3.6k done by my Lightning Generator which backfired too much :p), and survived on Last Stand at the end. Managed to do 9k healing through Enraged Regeneration, Super Health Potion and Heavy Frostweave Bandages, which was enough :) Not the easiest fight, but doable. Time used: 200 seconds (3 1/3 minutes).

Soloed as a 75 Blood Deathknight in Frost Presence. Pretty easy with the standard IT, PS, HS, HS, DS rotation. Used Mark of Blood, Icebound Fortitude and Rune Tap every time the timers were up. Finished the fight at 80% health.
Popped Ghoul and DRW soon as I hit 100 Runic Power during the fight for added dps.
With Mark of Blood, Bloodworms, Improved Rune Tap and using Vampiric Blood + Rune Tap and Death Strike, it was easy to stay above 50% health.

Totally not soloable as a warlock level 74 specced duo Affliction - Demonoligy.
Either the Voidwalker runs out of mana and can't hold the aggro before the mobs is dead, or I do too much damage.
I also highly doubt that a Felguard can take him as it will run out of mana even faster.
Also as a protection warrior this is totally unsolable at lower then level 80. The guy only has to hit you 20 times to dish out the 20k you're hp is likely to be, and you're just dead. You can shield block whatever you want but it doesn't block his thunderstorm kinda attack that also hits for about 400. Even with the healing ability of a warrior this just can't be done.
As hunter you need about 1000 hp ticks to pass through the guy's last 40% because then he's enraged and hits like a truck and very very fast.
As a Protection Paladin, I also doubt it can be done solo. You either run out of mana or out of Hp, and both is bad.
Boomkin hell no, unless you can root him, which you can't. You can heal but that means you're going down even faster. Not going to happen.
Mage, Shaman, Priest, no, no and no again. He hits too hard.
A DK frost specced won't get enough healing through, not done.
So I think a lot of ppl are BSing here. Sorry guys but this is really the first quest that you actually need a group.

Solo'd as a 74 demo lock.
hp: 11,776
mana: 10,811
pet: vw
Strat:
- blew the horn, sent pet to attack with demonic empowerment
- casted curse of weakness, immolate, and corruption; recasted as necessary
- healed pet as necessary; recasted demonic empowerment as necessary
-
SLOW BURN. THIS IS A MARATHON FIGHT SOLO
One major thing I cannot stress enough is to keep your pet's hp at 50% or higher. Make sure Grom'Thar always has CoW and some dot on him. 123k hp is not going to be a fast fight. You shouldn't have to life tap a whole lot. Make sure to have healthstone on standby.

Rather straight forward for a level 76 Blood Death Knight. Made sure to pull him with a fresh Horn of Winter to not have to reapply during fight. Put on tanking gear (quest and instance reward gear only) and Frost Presence. Using Rune Tap, Vampiric Blood, Icebound Fortitude, Mark of Blood and Death Strike as much as possible should keep you topped off or near.
Make sure to tank him with
his
back against the cliff, or the knockback will most likely throw you down there. The area around his spawn point was mostly free of mobs, so you can move quite a bit without fear of adds.
Fight probably took about 2 minutes, had time to reuse IBF and VB. Having
Epidemic
and
Death Rune Mastery
will let you use
Death Strike
more often and will help quite a bit. Using
Vampiric Blood
before popping
Rune Tap
and/or
Mark of Blood
, both of which heals you for a percentage of your maximum HP, is always a good idea.
Overall, not the easiest fight, but with a steady rotation and no awefully bad luck, you should be able to take him down.

Soloed as a 77 Protection Pally with average gear (blue, some green, some old purples). Pretty easy tank and spank. You need to make sure you are always fighting him facing South (facing the ocean cliff) because of his knockback.
I used Devo aura, Seal of Wisdom and Judgment to keep plenty of mana. Self heal after he does his knockback effect. Not really an exciting fight (5 minutes maybe) but not a challenge either. I ended the fight with about 90% health and 70% mana using no LoH, pots, or bubble.

Soloed as a lvl 75 enhancement shaman. Food buffed, with Northrend Quest gear (quite a few good blues) and had to use all the tricks a shaman gets.
Fire Elemental Totem, Wolves, Windfury totem, Strength of Earth and Healing Stream, Bloodlust.
Don't use Shamanistic Rage in the beginning. Save it for when the wolves are gone.
When the wolves are up, use all your MW procs for Lightning Bolt. You shouldn't need to heal more than once or twice while they're up, otherwise you'll lack DPS. After the wolves are gone, pop shamanistic rage, keep a health pot ready and try to burn him down as fast as possible. Use MW to heal and only heal.

Important note - his thunder ability happens with regular intervals, once every X amount of seconds, so if you get into the fight as a prot warrior, you can actually predict when he's about to do it and Spell Reflect it right back at him! However, note that he's immune to knockbacks, but it still damages him.

it is possible for any ranged class to solo this one, as stated somewhere above. i find that it's easier to just kite him back and forth right of his spawn location. there is a little gap between two of the stones which belong to the titan's path, and just jumping over this every time he comes too close worked out as being safer than just jumping over the stones since he cannot hit you there by any means and he won't evade either.
map:
http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/1084/mapeld.png
the green border is the kiting area, you'll notice that gap, while the red one is it's spawn location. it is left of the screenshot already posted by nilsen504.
if you are a pet class, do not send it at him. he may charge at you and it may get stuck in the gap anyways.

Soloed as a level 74 prot warrior.
As stated by Throrion the key here is to reflect his thunders; this fight needs excellent Spell Reflection timing, as thunder was hitting me for 1.4k (well, that is the only thunder I failed to reflect). Keep in mind that thunder is instant cast, so you need to "learn" the time between each of his casts; with the first one you just have to be lucky, but after that you can time your reflects.
He ate about 13.4k damage from his own thunder ability (watch first sreenshot, only 110k damage done by myself according to Recount and this guy has a 123.4k health pool).
Ended the fight with 29% health left, didn't even have to pop last stand (used a healing potion mid-fight which healed me for about 20%, just in case).
Extremely difficult fight but with good timing you can solo this guy!

Soloed as a 74 resto shaman. This is a very difficult fight.
You'll need all your cooldowns up, and a runic mana potion. Start off by dropping Searing, Mana Spring, and drop your earth ele once you call him out. Drop earth shield on your elemental and spam lightning bolt with bloodlust up, and heal your elemental as necessary. Once you hit 50% Mana drop mana tide, you want that cooldown to be used early so that once you are out of elementals you have it to rely on. You'll be running through mana very quickly so drink your runic mana potion once you hit 50% again. Once earth ele dies drop your fire ele, and keep water shield up and simply melee (make sure you have flametongue on your weapon). Heal yourself with riptide and healing wave. Once the elemental dies he should be at about 20%-30%. Keep meleeing him and refreshing water shield constantly and drop your mana tide once it is off the CD. If you have done all these steps you should be able to defeat him. Make sure you stay away from the ledge at all times as well, or you'll fall.

Soloed as a lvl 76 elemental shaman.
Honestly, didn't think I'd pull it through but he went down before my Earth Elemental disappeared.
I started with placing my totems being Totem of Wrath, Mana Spring and Wrath of Air a bit north of the spawn. Then I summoned him, went back and met him at my totems and immediately placed the Earth Elemental totem which soon took all aggro.
Then it was basicly a nuke and heal dance, going all out and healing myself when I took aggro and the elemental.
It wasn't difficult but I'm sure I'd have problems without Lava Burst.
I was in full Northrend blues.

i wont lie, it was a tough fight...failed a couple times...in the end i got an elixer of mighty defence (+350 health +20hp5) and some +ap+sta food...
i stood right on the very edge of the circle, closest to the titan path, blew the horn and ran towards the road...the edge of the road on the far side is just high enough that the knock up/back wont send you flying so i could just focus on frantic clicking :)...applied diseases first(obviously) and from then on i just hit death strike twice and pestilence followed by blood strike...when RP got high enough i would frost strike too for extra dps...you'll need to pop most if not all of your cooldowns but the fight lasts well over 3 mins so you should get them twice :P i also used a runic healing pot . it was close...fun fight :D

After two unsuccessful attempts, I was able to solo Grom'thar as a level 73 Prot Paladin. Gear was greens and blues, item levels 146 and 138 mostly, even split between +Int, +Stam and +Str bonuses with some +SP in there (all from Northrend). I had the
Medallion of Heroism
equipped (comes from an NR quest).
I summoned him, kited him up to the Path of the Titans with my back at the Path ... he never kicked me back that time for some reason. I started off with BoS and SoL up, popped Avenging Wrath, and judged Light, followed by HS, AS and HoR. I monitored my health and mana; when health was below 75% I cast Holy Light (he would kickback the bar but never interrupt fully), and when mana was below 25% I popped Divine Plea (dropping it when I needed healing).
Mana would get a little low from time to time, but health never dropped below 50. I was able to use the wings 2 or 3 times in the fight; I healed with the Medallion trinket 2 or 3 times, whenever it was up and I was below 85% or so health ... once Grommy was down to 20% health and I could spam HoW, I left DP up and never needed to heal again; SoL and JoL were healing me just fine, and he seemed to hit less hard for some reason.
As a Dranei and Herbalist, my Gift of the Naaru and Lifeblood helped with addtional HoTs I could use when my Divine Plea was up (no 50% heal penalty).
Oh, I avoided Consecration for most of the fight, casting it a few times towards the end when I had continually full mana from my Plea. DON'T FORGET TO KEEP RIGHTEOUS FURY UP if you've got Improved Righteous Fury; it reduces damage 6%. I forgot for the first half of the fight. D'oh!
I think I failed the first time b/c I let him punt me all the time; the 2nd time because I left Plea up and didn't try to cast heals on myself, opting for LoH or bubbled and healed. The last time I needed neither.

I soloed It as a level 74 Dk.
Put on Frost spec + Tanking gear
I put on horn of winter and summoned my ghoul.
I summoned the Grom'Thar and cast Mark of blood.
I kept icy touch and plague strike up, and used death strike whenever i could.
I used rune tap and Vampiric blood when I was low on health, and used bane when my ghoul was gonna go in 5-10 seconds.
I also used Icebound fortitude so that he would do less damage to me.
I used heart strike most of the times, as it does 3-4k when it crits, and it crits quite often.
Dancing rune weapon for DPS.
Strangely, It was quite easy, and the fight ended with me having 11k out of 14k health ( I didn't have to use health pots) , thanks to my beloved bloodworms.

Speaking of shadow priests, my 74 shadow priest solod this guy, just pop shield/buffs keep a health pot handy, wait for weakened soul to wear off.
Pop shadowfiend and let it tank him for a couple seconds til it dies, then pop cooldowns and dot him up, keep renewing your shield whenever you can and hope he doesnt crit you too much, when you get low just disperse and let your dots heal you back up, refreshing dots as often as you can.
Do
not
shadow word:death him, mind blast is your friend as long as you have sw:p up.
When he knocks you back, be sure to mind flay him while he runs up, keep the runic healing pot ready just in case.

Did this solo as a 76 affliction warlock. Mostly BC epic gear, but should be doable for any lock, easier for Demo.
I used Voidwalker the entire time, spent most of the fight health funneling. In between funnels I would toss out corruption and drain life to keep my health up from his charge ability. Once I got him to around 30% or so, I soul shattered and did as much dps as I could to finish him off. I noticed that if you stand in melee, he doesn't do his charge (or at least as often).

I just finished this as a 78 mage on my third try (in blues from Lich King quests/dungeons, no epics). Tried to burn him down as Fire spec first, letting my mirror images take the aggro, but he has too much health, couldn't take him down fast enough. Then tried the same tactic, only as Arcane spec. He has a charge that will interrupt your spells, which broke my arcane blast chain, so I couldn't burn him down fast enough.
Then I looked here and found the comment about the rock. Tried that and it worked. I had to pop Mirror image just to make it to the rock, but after the images faded, I just walked back and forth across the stone spamming Arcane Barrage and Fireblast until he was dead, took a minute or so.
I imagine Frost spec might have a slightly easier time since you could absorb more damage with Ice Barrier, although he is immune to being frozen. Kiting over the rock seems to be the best option, though.

Anyone mind explaining how you do the rock thing? I'm on the correct part of the bridge because there's a video that shows how to do it. Yet when I do it he wont go all the way around unless I'm on the opposite side. The videos I seen just show people standing on one side and then jumping on the rock when to make him go around again.

Soloed as a 74 Holy Paladin. Very easy fight. The only tricky part is positioning yourself so he doesn't use his knockback. Once he spawned, I ran to my right towards the path of the titans (as he was coming at me) and hit him with a few Holy Shocks. I found a little nook on the far side of the path of titans where I could stand and he would not use his knockback anymore. Look for a spot along the far "wall" of the Path where you can back into and he will not use knockback. At least he did not against me, and I fought him 3 times in a row for 9,500 rested XP each fight!

Soloed as 74 Disc Priest, took 4 attempts. Successful attempt took nearly 5 full minutes. Did not use the no-knockback exploit.
Basic Strat for those crazy enough to try.
Obviously shield before blowing the horn and wait for weakened soul debuff to be gone.
I like to open with holy fire, SW:P, and Devouring plague.
The trick is getting a good shield/penance rotation down to make sure you don't die while waiting for the opposite CD to come around.
Flash heal when you have to. Should be free each time you need it because of Inner Focus unless you get unlucky crit string.
Keep the dots refreshed and wand.
Smite if you have spare mana/life on your shield.
Pain Suppression when it's up. PW:B can be cast and aimed while in the air. This is helpful to land and heal without interruption after his knockback.
Don't get knocked off the cliff.
This was by far the hardest solo I have accomplished so far on this character. Rattlebore was significantly easier.

The trick behind the "rock" worked great, thou it's not the rock, it's the path's edge, and grom will chase you around. Watch the screenshot mentioned above. The edge that worked for me was the one closest to the pillar.

Soloable as a 75 protection warrior in quest blues and greens with two level 74 crafted blues (Tempered Saronite legs and belt).
The toughest part of this fight is managing his knockback. Using the edge-of-path trick above, it is possible to have a few seconds to bandage, which is enough to endure his attacks and let cooldowns refresh - given liberal use of Shield Block, Thunder Clap, Demoralizing Shout, and any on-use trinkets you have handy.
Be

of his knockback. It cut my fight short three times before I was able to defeat him, as he knocked me off the path and into the water below. He also has a nasty habit of evade-bugging while pathing around (if you go too long without damaging him, I suppose) which stopped me twice during promising bouts. Always try to fight him on the road side of the path, rather than the outside, as it is much easier to be knocked off from that side (being closer to the edge as well as accounting for his awkward path location, which puts him closer to the outside edge of the "sidewalk" (for lack of a better term) than you can actually stand, meaning you will always be outside of him relative to the road.
Keep Demo Shout, Battle Shout and TClap up at all times, stack three Sunder Armor using Devastate, and hit him with whatever you can throw at him (Devastate, Shield Slam, Revenge, Heroic Strike, and Rend if you have an extra GCD and you feel a DoT is absolutely necessary - I didn't use it, though). This may be doable at a lower level than 75, as well.

Soloed as 73 shadow priest with full heirloom gear. Easy fight, just keep dots up. Use shield whenever you can. You might wanna use flash heal, as your shield goes fast down. Otherwise quite easy fight. Killed him 1st try, and took me about 1-2 min. And remember to use Shadowfiend for more dps
