Boss in Sunwell Plateau - a large, gray, wingless Pit Lord with blades for hands, like Kargath Bladefist. A heavy melee encounter, like Patchwerk, requiring half the raid at a time to share a cone-shaped fire spell.
On a 3000 armor (22% absorb) rogue:
Hits for 7000-19000
Crits for 14000-25000
, 2 sec CD, 1 sec cast, 10'000 (fire dmg) in front of the caster. You need several tanks to reduce the damage taken.
Old ability (instead of Meteor Slash) was: Arc Slash, 2 sec CD, 100'000 (physical dmg) with 30 yd radius. -it hit's me for around 18000 so there is definitely some reduction at initial pull. Later on it seems like it will hit several people to reduce the damage so you need to use around 3 tanks.
You are required to kill Brutallus in order to spawn
(the 3rd boss) in the instance.
Something small that got overlooked...Brutallus was initially susceptible to Warlock enslavement despite being a raid boss. Go here:
to read about the ensuing carnage when a lock discovered this. =D Sadly, this is something that could never stay in the game, but how great would it be to have a raid boss get your back for 10 minutes?
- Meteor Slash damage has also been increased from 10000 to 20000, the effect duration has been doubled, and you shall no longer dodge, parry, block the ability. Brutallus can also no longer miss with his Meteor Slash.
New change on 2.4 PTR. Also, his health was raised from about 7.7 mil to 11 mil, and was lowered again to 10 mil.
So wait, is meteor slash physical or not?
10k->20k doesn't make any sense from the explanation above the comments.
"200,000 physical damage" reduced by 75% max = 50k total, split in 3 is 16.6k damage to each tank? This is of course assuming you have 3 druids at the armor cap tanking him, and he's got a debuff that reduces tanks' armor by 25%??
Just doesn't make sense to me, especially if you can't dodge, parry or block or have it miss you. Physical damage that can't be blocked would mean it could crush too, right?
the cd is 2 sec does that mean that he will cast every 2 sec .... i think thats what alot of people wanna know
This is blizzards last 25 man raid instance before wotlk, they are going to try and drag it out as much as possible to milk it for all it's worth, it is blizzard after all. Which is why they made Brutallus as hard as they did, Blood Legion hit the enrage at 1%, with 3 completed sets of glaives, but still managed to kill him, blizz will probably let him sit as he is for 1-2 months before they nerf him down to a little more reasonable of a level.
I would just like to comment on how the information about his abilities and the tips on how to fight him are quite wrong.
First off, Meteor Slash is on a 10 second cooldown with a 1 second cast. The attack is a cone -shaped attack and can't be dodged, missed, blocked, parried or resisted (not even partially resisted). The cone is quite wide, and has 10-15 yards range (this really depends how your tank positions him, as his hitbox is enormous). The 20.000 damage it deals is shared equally among all that are hit. It leaves a stacking debuff that increases fire damage taken by 75% per stack, and lasts for 35 seconds (refreshed by Meteor Slash abviously).
His burn ability will be cast every 30 seconds or so on a random target and can be resisted. The damage ramps up to quite high amounts at the end of the debuff.
His stomp will only be used on his main target, deals around 5k damage to a tank (18850-21150 unmitigated), and leaves a debuff reducing armor by 50%, not 25% as stated above. It also removes the burn debuff.
This boss is a dual wielder, hitting quite fast. On our MT, a warrior, he deals 3-4k on offhand swing and 7-8k on mainhand swing. This is without stomp.
The enrage is as mentioned above, on a 6 minute timer, and increases his damage dealt by 500% (this applies to Metor Slash as well, but I'm not sure if it applies to Burn), and increasing his attack speed by 150%. Which means even a shield walling tank is very likely to die the first few seconds unless he is extremely lucky with parry/dodge.
I'll leave you to figure out the tactics for this guy (or read them elsewhere). They're quite simple anyway, the challenge is keeping everyone alive and deal sufficient damage to take down his 10 million hit points within 6 minutes.
Only 2 tanks are needed for this fight. You do NOT need 3 as per the top of the page. Using 2 tanks means you can add another DPS.
And like mentioned above, he can easily gib your tank right thru shield wall.
We killed it with 2 tanks and no glaive sets right at enrage (Exodus)
Pets no longer get Burn and are unaffected by Meteor Slash as of 2.4.0 (was different on the PTR).
In 2.4.1 Meteor Slash got changed to unlimited range and 180 degrees infront of Brutallus, so it's no longer cast in a cone infront of him.
The "gear check" of Sunwell, most people who have done this fight will agree that Brutallus is tuned for a raid consisting of 2 tanks, 8 healers, 15 dps, no warglaives, full BT/Hyjal gear (needing at most 1 or 2 things from either instance), and popping all the proper consumables for each player.
He has around 10.5 million health, so you need 29166.6~ raid dps to kill him at enrage. An "enrage zerg" will only drop his health 3-4% at most before all of your raid dies to meteor slashes and his melee attacks.
Obviously, having a Warglaive set or bringing 7 healers will make the fight much easier on beating the timer.
Since Brutallus is a demon, and the fight is only 6 minutes long at most, melee DPS can use
Elixirs of Demonslaying
for an extra little boost.
Edit: Come patch 2.4.2 this will affect ranged DPS as well.
How often does Burn tick? Every 3 seconds?
Some people can reset Brutallus by kiting him out through the fire that surrounds him. Apparantly a handful of people from my guild can just run through the fire as if it wasn't a wall. For me, the fire acts like a wall. Sounds bugged, can anyone confirm what's causing this?
naa, he got 10,000,000 hitpoints, don't know how but wowhead says 17k.
Are you frikkin kidding me?! What's the damn problem with you guys, who are the moderators here?!
You can't be serious that one of the hardest bosses in the whole game has 17,000 HP? Like a damn Karazhan tank?
Why are you even writing that he got that, it's not even logical...!
I've seen this on many many articels on this website and I am very very dissapointed in the Wowhead crew.. ffs fix this problem...
(Took the liberty of correcting your spelling and grammar)
Just to clarify this issue, the editors / moderators do NOT have the power to manually adjust the HP levels of bosses. In fact these values are detected automatically by the in-game client, by observing how much damage is registered in the combat log and how much the boss' health percentage changes. Obviously this is not 100% accurate, and depending on the situation the data can be grossly inaccurate - as observed in this case. These values should get updated once more data about this boss is submitted and the database is reloaded to reflect the new information.
Two knives for hands? That's not very convenient, at least one of them should be a fork.
Off tank should use 2 weapons and pop up shield when the stomp is gonna be done, increases a bit dps gl & hf
If I am not mistaken, I think you can see this bastard from the daily bombing run in Quel'Danas.
I actually threw bombs at him haha
Just got to him yesterday, and our first Kalecgos kill. I can confirm that he hits me (Prot. warrior) for between 7-8k with his MH, but what I don't see in these comments are how much a tank can get hit by when the tank is under the effect of stomp.
It's 13k, dawgs. I got hit by a 13k MH, 6k OH hit at the same time, nearly 1-shotted me. Keep this is consideration, healers.
can make this fight a little easier since Meteor Slash can procc it. The warlock will get the damage but will be immune to the + damage debuff, thus taking less damage from the next slash.
Important for Burn healers during the fight:
Don't heal on casters with active
The Skull of Gul'dan
It looks the same
as they look when hit by the debuff. When the first time i healed burn i thought my eyes went crazy because i've seen almost 3-4 players in green simultaneusly. Then i realized that they arent affacted by burn, its just the trinket buff...
So shame on me, but try not to do this on your encounters :)
Maybe I see wrong but Wowhead says he has 17 000 HP.And he surely doesn't.
He has 7.5 mil HP now, and hes a pretty easy boss now.
Brutallus looks like the guy from '300' , the spartan war film, the bad guy who chops off pplz heads.
If u hit him by
The Air Strikes Must Continue
quest, Brutallus yells: What is this pathetic magic? How about you come back with twenty-four of your best friends and try again, <race>!
He is visible when you do the daily quests on Isle of Quel'Danas. You get to fly over him. I managed to take a tiny chunk out of his health with a bomb.
First defeated by Blood Legion of Illidan on the 25th of March, 2008.
Does this guy have any lore to him? I'm wondering how he lost his wings and hands.
At level 80:
You'll want 2 tanks, and 3 healers, one for each tank and one to raid heal.
Split your raid up into 2 groups.
The melee group is unnecessary, as Brutallus parry hasting is non-threatening to 80 tanks in halfway decent gear. People should still probably move out for burn, but if they can't do so without spreading it to others, just have them stay put and die. The dps timer can be met with just a few level 80 dps.
At the moment, this guy is definitely not soloable as a Hunter. You can keep a Turtle / Beetle up for a bit, but he still manages to do quite a bit of damage, and your pet will eventually die, even if you keep up Mend Pet. The reason I do not believe this is soloable is that, at most, I could only get him to about 90%. It would take way too long to actually kill him, and even if I could keep my pet up for that long, I am sure he would enrage and I'd probably be dead. Even if I could kill him before his enrage timer went off, I'm sure my pet wouldn't be able to survive for very long.
As of this point, this is a heads-up for Hunters (Any Spec) that this guy is not soloable and you should not waste your time trying.
Actually, I just thought of something. PERHAPS, it is possible, with good old Tier 5 set bonus. Huge detriment to stats, but the extra healing would be nice. I will have to try this out.

Congrats to him!
Yesterday, we failed 4manning Brutallus
Tank simply couldnt take the damage anymore from meteor slash untill it resulted in a 1-shot. the dps from warlock and arcane was each around 20k dps.
Only way we could do him was either have someone take over brutallus (but he does like 20k dps on you aswell as clothy), or have a 2nd tank. Unless you have a tank that is not afflicted by the debuff (hunter turtle pet), you need something to reset the Meteor Slash debuff, kill the boss before damage gets to heavy, or else you will
make this encounter.
Today we successfully 2manned him with my DK tank and a Ret. Pala. But have to be very careful with the taunts :)
Also a tip for DK's AMS prevent the buff to stack, so the another player only have to "tank" 2 meteor slashes you can avoid the 3rd and the buffs gone.
We did like I received 2 stack, then pala taunt the 3rd, I AMS 4th, and again the pala took the 5th. However it was still tough but doable.
Trio'd with a Prot Pally, Resto Druid and Boomkin (who taunted in bear).
Made timer relatively easily (12.4, 7.5 and 2.3k dps)
Pets seem to ignore
with impunity: they gain no debuff when he uses it on them, and they take negligible (if any) damage.
If you happen to end up in a particularly small Sunwell group lacking enough player bodies to handle the stacking debuff and associated rise in damage, it may be worth asking a Hunter or Warlock to summon
and simply have all the players stand off to the side where they'll never get hit by the frontal cone.
Two videos I made about Sunwell Plateau. It shows me (Nobbel 85 Paladin) and my buddy (Eponympf 85 paladin) duoing Kalecgos. We tried to duo Brutallus, but got our butts handed to us. Aliceinchain (85 Shaman) joins and we 3-man the rest of the instance without a problem.
I hope it gives you a few pointers.
Part 1 Kalecgos, Brutallus, Felmyst
Part 2 Eredar Twins, M'uru and Kil'jaeden
Is the fire still on you if you exit the dungeon?
Just to know :)
3-manned this one many times: fury warrior, arcane mage, holy paladin, I (fury warrior) take 3 stacks of meteor slash, then the paladin takes the next 3, while my debuff wears off, then I taunt again; time-warp is very useful with these classes, as it's anyway healing intensive if done without tanks.
Definitely going to try it 2-man on my dk, just have to bring another class who can taunt and take some damage before dying.
With atleast 85 it is easy to duo the boss with
(or Warlock but will have threat issues) and any
As it is already written Pets are immune to his Debuff from

So just take out a Tank Pet and let it do its job (e.g.

I usually prefer Survival, but play whatever fits you most. It will take some time to down him, but you will have no problems with the enrage timer. If you take a friend who is playing Hybrid Healer (with Damage or Tank OffSpec) you can quite easy continuing to clear this Raid, with out any other help, you will be rewarded with nice Transmog Gear, some money for you and with
some for your guild.
Since sometime, this boss can also be soloed by blood dks, first class who can solo it without pets, therefore taking the full meteor slash damage.
Requires very good DPS gear, in tank gear you could probably beat the enrage, but you will take so many meteor slashes that it would one-shot you.
Has been done by a savior of azeroth taking 12 stacks, killed the boss in less than 4 mins and a destroyer's end in around 397 gear taking 15 stacks, killed the boss in 4 mins 41.
Even in dps gear, at this level you should absorb all melee hits from brutallus, so the only damage will be from burn and meteor slash.
A strategy seems summoning army at the start to deal some damage to him without taking slashes, then use anti-magic shell for the first meteor slash (20k is nothing, but with AMS you also don't take the increasing damage debuff!).
After that, it will hit harder and harder, 20k, 35k, 50k, and a meteor slash every 12 seconds; you just have to outheal it and dps as much as possible, use AMS on slashes each time it's ready.
Every 12 seconds, you will have to heal back large amounts, at very high stacks of meteor slashes, you can use cds like ghoul + death pact, lichborne, empower rune weapon, vampiric blood, or as another strategy, when meteor slash does say 120k, wait for it to hit, then use death strike twice, blood tap and death strike again for 72k healing in 3 DS if you are fast enough.
Icebound fortitude should be saved for when you are about to take a meteor slash that definitely would kill you and AMS is on cooldown.
If the fight lasts more than 5 mins, most likely it's a wipe due to too many stacks of meteor slashes, after 5 mins they deal 170k normal fire damage even if you time ams correctly each time.
Now that I soloed it as well, my personal opinion about the requirements: in 395 gear, full dps except a soulshifter vortex LFR (even the LFR version is very useful for this boss, in dps gear you are going to take some melee hits from him, you cannot afford it, only damage you must take is meteor slash, a soulshifter vortex gives you more healing, absorb and HP, very important vs slashes), I got him to 1 million, survived 4 minutes and only 1 tentacle from my gurthalak 403 spawned, I got hit 158k by a meteor slash and had 149k, if I had managed to survive that, AMS would've come ready for next so would've survived 24 more sec and got him to around 400k, as I did like 26k dps.
Just a little upgrade needed, now I replaced my 384 chest and 397 hands with 410 items on both slots, so 398 gear, still used the soulshifter, 2 attempts with this setup, first one I failed at 2 mins something, if you're going to solo this on dk you need timing and reflexes, unforgiving boss!
Second attempt I used, I think, a perfect cd timing, using AMS always 4-5 sec before meteor slash, so it'd have been ready as soon as possible, used ghoul, used ERW, used lichborne when I needed more hp to survive a meteor slash, used the strategy of stacking as many DS as possible after the first 5 sec after meteor slash, to heal more, used icebound fortitude when I was going to die of meteor slash and ams was on cd, used bone shield each time, this is also important, since if you do it right (and don't let drop the blood shield) the boss WILL NOT melee hit you, you should only lose 1 charge of bone shield every meteor slash, so each minute you can refresh it and it should be always up, reduces damage by 20%, so not a joke on 160k slashes.
At around 300k I used ams on a meteor slash, I had already 15 stacks, the next meteor slash would've done 169k with bone shield and I had 40k or so, healed up till 96k and the second before he'd have casted it he died, checked after, every single cd used, only thing I could've tried to survive would've been fast army of the dead and ghoul sacrifice, as death pact was ready and raise dead wasn't.
So still at the limit, but IMO it's possible to get 4 tentacles (480k or so damage) on a fight this long, instead of 1 like I got, so this boss should be possible to farm since 398 item level in 2-3 attempts each week, following bosses are incredibly easier, so a good 1.600 gold + trash drops + items in total from sunwell solo.
Buffs used: 90 strength and stamina food, flask of steelskin, runescroll of fortitude II, drums of forgotten kings, for reference 212k hp and done almost 28k dps, boss down in 4 mins 24; 15 stacks of meteor slash taken and would've been 16 + wipe with 1 more second...
This particular Brutallus is the one you fight in the
. Earlier you saw him as
, causing problems far below you when you did
Solo'd as a Protection Warrior.
Took me several tries to work it out. I ended up using full dps gear aside from sword and board, and one stamina trinket. Equipped ilvl was 407.
I just needed to rotate cooldowns as needed at about 8 stacks, and use Shield Barrier on every one. Sometimes I would not need a cooldown if my health was fine. I had a couple close attempts (14%, 0.15%) so I started using excess rage on Heroic Strike if my health was ok. Ended the fight with 42k dps thanks to the new vengeance.
Easily soloable as a BM hunter in Heroic MOP gear
Just burn and use all your CDS on the pull and just dps like crazy
Keep mend pet up simple enough
Is there anything we can use to remove the Meteor Slash debuff? I'm running this weekly with my son for trasmog gear, and although we've beaten him, it would help if we could wipe the stacks off at least once.
Solo'd as Monk Brewmaster. 486 ilvl
Used envoke Xuen to start the fight with the pet tanking the boss, DPS as much as you can then take over tanking when the pet vanishes. Then a simple case of using your cooldowns effectively and also ur healing orbs that spawn around you.
Soloed as Brewmaster Monk in 452, no enchants, no gems, no reforge gear.
Pretty easy, just guard, expel harm, and chi wave until you feel that you can't outheal incoming damage. Then dampen harm 3 meteor shashes, and zen-med one. Immediately after zen-med, invoke xuen and let him tank for a 45 sec while you heal youself up and reset the debuff. Boss should die before you start to feel his damage again.
The only issue is a bit stupid Xuen AI, he very much likes putting on his trollface and spin boss randomly. Just be ready to roll out of meteor slash if the boss SUDDENLY starts looking at you when xuen is tanking.
Soloed this boss today as a rogue with 478 ilvl; I have not tested this method with other classes, but is probably transferable to those who don't have a pet or is just having trouble soloing him.
Managed to get him down to 30% by just bursting and using defensive CD's properly, but realized that my burst dps isn't high enough yet kill him like that.
In the second attempt I just replaced one of my trinkets with
and that ended with me killing him on the first try. Just remember to stand behind the boss when the Terracotta warrior is tanking so you don't get hit by his
and just burst him down as quickly as possible; and don't use all the defensive CD's at once. ;)
In my kill, Brutallus reached about 50% health when the Terracotta warrior died and with all the defensive CD's still left and SB/AR of cooldown, bursting him and spacing the defensive CD's, it was no problem killing him.
I used these talents:
The important ones are the level 30, 45 and 60 abilities and it's probably a bit easier in assassination, because of the slightly higher dps.
Buffs I used:
After this boss the rest of the raid was a breeze.
Good luck in farming your legendary, transmog, recipes or whatever ^^
Soloed as a protection warrior. No special tricks at all, just equipped almost all dps gear and cycled cooldowns. Did not use a potion, and could have survived 2 more meteor slashes, possibly more. 40,8k dps for the fight. As far as talents go, second wind is crucial. Gear level was 473, HP 456k.
Solo'd as a boomkin druid at level 90. Avg itemlevel was 490. Only used my own buffs.
Video of the kill:
Here's my experience soloing him at 90 with a paladin, Ret iLvL 484, Prot iLvL 463.
My first two attempts in Ret spec, I think I got him down to around 40% at the lowest, so it was pretty obvious I wasn't going to just burst him down. Maybe with better cooldown management it's possible, but I decided to switch over to Prot, despite my somewhat poor gearing. Anything at 8 debuff stacks and higher was too hard to mitigate for me.
My third attempt, in Prot, I think I manage to get him down to around 1.5 million, but I really just wanted to get a feel for things.
The fourth attempt went much better and I got him down around 500k. Keep in mind I was only doing 19k dps at this point. I generally tried to wait around 9 or 10 debuff stacks to bubble out.
At this point, my fiance volunteered to come along and help, being a fresh 90 mage, so I was happy for the help, and we 2-manned it easily. I got up to around 14 stacks of the debuff and was still at 80% or so health when he died.
However, I would say that if you're prot and can do upwards of 20k dps, with a little practice, it should definitely be soloable. I may try to get my iLvL in prot up to 470ish and then try again and post an update.
This fight is fairly trivial as a 90 Blood DK since if you use AMS when he casts a Meteor Slash there is enough time between the previous Meteor Slash and the following one for the debuff to fall off - AMS doesn't allow the debuff to apply so the timer isn't reset and can expire.
Down after 3m 18s
Blood DK (DPS gear) ilvl 472
Soloed Brutallus fairly easily with a level 90 enhancement shaman. Item level 468 with blue weapons, so nothing fancy.
Blow all your cooldowns and get him down as fast as possible, while keeping your health topped off. Once the damage from meteor slash starts to become too much, pop your earth elemental (I needed mine right as my fire elemental's duration expired), and he'll taunt the boss and pull him off you.
At this point, throw off some wind shears to make sure he stays on the earth elemental, and top off your health with a healing stream totem and whatever mana you have. Once your meteor slash stacks fall off, reengage Brutallus. He should have low enough health that you can kill him before meteor slashes become a problem.
Solo'd as a 90 Shadow Priest, just make sure you weave in some heals as needed. Saving your fiend for when you are low and fading will free you up to get healed up as well. Good Luck!
Easily soloed as level 90 Survival hunter, 30k dps 450 item level, just used a tank pet and spirit bond was enough to keep it healed. Same for me, Spirit bond kept me alive :) about 7.5min fight never went below 95% hp
This guy was a bit tricky. I couldn't do him as a 473 arms war. So I kept all my dps gear on (cept for sword n board) and went prot. At around 20% it was at a point where his meteor slash would one shot me. So it's definitely a DPS race. I had to time my shield wall around 2nd to last slash and last stand on the very last one.
Shield barrier is a must to heal up before the next slash.
soloed with a ww monk, easely
red crane battlegear 5/5 used and sha touched staff LFR
keep up your expel harm and chi wave and you should be fine, if your health drops below 40% use your touch of karma.
this is a dps race so brutallus must be killed ASAP as hes meteor strike deals more damage each time!
Tried as a prot warrior in prot gear, 457 iLvl.
Got him to about 20%, but at 12 stacks, Metor Slash hit me for 180k... dead.
Was doing 28k dps, but Second Wind wasn't going to help much when the stacks got past 10.
Solo'd as a Demo Lock with 459 ilvl. I tanked him with the Voidlord, and it seems demons cannot build Meteor Slash stacks. Kept my pet healed and just burned Brutallus down, easy enough.
If you can´t solo as a shadow priest, switch to discipline and you´ll do it. Try to have full hp because of large hits you´ll get.
Soloed at a Ret Pally today. Only 479 iLvl. Used Divine shield at about 8-9 stacks or when I was about to die. It clears the stacks then went to Seal of Insight and used some Word of Glory and Flash of Light procs from Selfless Healer to get up. Then went back to Seal of Truth. When Forbearance cleared I used lay on hands. Used dps cooldowns whenever they were up and used a health potion too. Had 17k hp left when he died. It was tight, but with a little better gear it should be easier.
If you need to solo as a class who cannot avoid or clear the meteor slash stacks then try using the Terracotta Fragment. This allowed me to solo him as a WW monk (ilevel ~= 478) without difficulty. I took about 3-4 meteor slashes before summoning the tank. I also grabbed glyph of retreat to make absolutely sure that my summon-able tank would have threat. Make sure you stand behind him while the fragment is tanking. By the time my tank died Brutallus was down to less than 1k HP, my stacks had fallen off, and I was at full HP.
Easily done as a Monk, even as a MW. Spec into Zuen, Celerity and grab the retreat glyph.
If you cannot outheal the meteor slashes anymore, pop Zuen und roll (the retreat glyph reduces your threat to 0 as long the buff is active).
Now stay passive and let the debuff drop.
Brutallus will come at you again if the retreat buff wears of, just roll again -> hes back at Zuen.
Soloed him as ilvl 475 guardian druid - just barely, though, had about 80k hp left at the end of the fight (this is considering that I also had a +450 stamina buff from Chun Tian Spring Rolls). I think the Meteor Slash debuff was up to 12 stacks (900% increased damage). I used every CD I had: Incarnation: Son of Ursoc, Survival Instincts, Barkskin (every time it was up), Might of Ursoc (with Rejuvenation), Renewal (twice), Berserk (twice), plus a Master Healing Potion and spamming Frenzied Regen toward the end of the fight.
Easily solo'd as MM hunter, ilvl only 452. This should be pretty easy for all hunter. Just keep up Mend Pet, and your pets health won't even drop.
Soloed this with my 85 blood DK in 417 ilevel gear including Jade Forest greens and auction house blues.
The fight is a DPS race. As you fight Brutallus he will cast
on you which will damage you and apply a stacking debuff which will increase the damage you take from further Meteor Slashes. When he casts
use Anti-Magic Shell. This will prevent the application of
the debuff. You should be able to kill him before you hit the enrage, which happens at 6 minutes, and before the debuff becomes overwhelming.
Here's the video:
Frost Mage Solo
I used a Flask of Warm Sun, Braised Turtle food buff; Talents of Rune of Power, PoM, Ice Barrier, and Cold Snap. Ice Block will clear the Meteor Slash stacks and use Cold Snap to reset your Ice Block. Be sure to stand in your Rune of Power for the heals and keep your Ice Barrier up.
I started the fight letting my Elemental fight for a few, throwing it a frost bolt or three for heals, then I unleashed everything on him; Mirror Image, Time Warp, Icy Veins, PoM (probably not needed). Once I got about 4 stacks, I Ice Blocked and used Cold Snap to reset IB, stayed on my Rune and continued to Nuke him with Frostbolt, Frostfire Bolt and Ice Lance on Proc. I used Frozen Orb and Nether Tempest as well. Fight took less than 2 minutes.
Frost Mage, iLvL 504 full and proper raid reforge/gems/enchants.
Zrimm - Ysera
Edit: I also used one Master Healing Potion
oh man, fighting it on my 70 twink, hits hard but its a standin fight haha, just stand there tank and spank all good
>put all your heavy close range damage dealaers around the boss to absorb meteor slash, then have a resto druid just out of range of the slash to heal the dealers at the front with aoe spells
>mages stay in back, frostbolt should be used to slow the fast boss, bosses melee are faster than a normal player's
>hunters do damage upon the main enemy, pets should be used to help absorb meteor slash
>when he casts burn bait him to stomp you, then have a bear tank taunt off him, then repeat tanks until stack wear off
>if he berserks, don't panic, he is kitable
Soloed on a 500 iLvl assassination rogue. Pretty simple really.
Only necessary talents are Leeching Poison (this is necessary for just about all soloing) and Combat Readiness, Marked for Death helps if you accidentally let Recu drop off.
How I did it was:
Pop Evasion, Shadow Blades, Vendetta and lifeblood (herbalist) immediately and unload, using shiv on CD and recu with 5CPs asap.
When evasion drops off, use Combat Readiness, and when that drops off use Prep and evasion again.
Use Cloak of Shadows once the damage starts outdoing your healing (I chose at 6 stacks of meteor slash, although I think just doing it after your last evasion drops off might be better).
By the time your second Evasion drops off, 55 seconds have passed and if he's not nearly dead (<25-30%) by this point you may be in trouble.
Not all that hard in the end, but he is still a bit of a gearcheck.
Solo'd as a Survival Hunter iLvl 442 (MoP gear).
I honestly believe that you can solo Brutallus regardless of spec; however, I do recommend you pick up
so that you will recover from
, which did 3200 damage per tick to me and was unavoidable.
The trick is to have your pet tank him opposite to you. As in, you will be facing the back/tail of Brutallus. Tank and Spank. Doing this will prevent you from getting hit by
which hits harder each stack. Mend your pet when it hits about 75% health. Use your rotation and DPS CDs to speed up the encounter.
Thanks to Vreivai - Illidan for their response to another hunter's question about this fight on battle.net forums:
Hope this was helpful to you Hunters out there. This should also work for others as well, such as, Warlocks and their tank demons.
Edit: Did not use any elixirs, flasks or other specialty items. Only used my tenacity spec'd pet and my bow.
Easy nowadays as a i520 Ret. It just takes a while to bring down 7 million hp.
All classes with 5.4 equip should be able to easyily solo him if they heal themselves a bit.
For all you Arms Warriors trying to solo Brutallus it is possible. A couple things to note:
is a must.
2) You have to do about 100K dps. My first attempt I pulled just over 92K and was unable to down him. After a few more attempts (and some pathetic dps on my part) I hit just over 100K (final reading on Recount was 99003) and down he went with me still at about 20-25% hp.
My gear at the time of my victory was 497 ilevel. Once you're consistently pulling over 100K dps this fight would become a walk-in-the-park.
Does anyone else think his dialogue sounds suspiciously orc-like (or at least more mortal-esque than we typically see from demons)? Also, his name is pretty unusual as far as Pit Lord names go. It makes me wonder if he was supposed to be a very different boss originally... Just speculating. *shrug*
Does anyone know how to Solo him as a level 90 Arcane Mage?
Successfully solo'd as iLvL 480 Assassination Rogue.
Basically keep Recup up at all times and Shiv on cooldown (requires Leeching Poison). My rotation:
Open with ambush
Mut to 5CP > Recup
Mut to 5+ CP (I use Anticipation)
Repeat until 35% then use Dispatch instead of Mutilate.
Once CR falls off, hit Evasion, then Prep > Evasion.
After that, I cloaked off the Meteor Slash and kept at the rotation above.
Around 30% ish, CR came off CD so I popped it again, and once it fell off, Cloak was almost ready again.
I ended the fight at about 15-20% health. But hey, he died. I didn't. I call that a win.
Successfully solo'ed this boss as a lvl90 Fury Warrior
1st. i used second wind as a backup life regen
2nd. Use battle shout to get the most attack power possible and the battle stance. Use your DPS cooldowns whenever you can
3rd. When your life get low (happened to me after a few minutes), switch to commanding shout to get the 10% life bonus (which also increase the life regen bonus from Second Wind).
4rd. Switch to Defensive Stance (25% damage reduction) when Brutallus starts to cast Meteor Slash and switch back to Battle stance after his cast landed.
It worked very fine for me. Good luck!
Soloed as a Fury Warrior, ilvl 550.
Not sure how long it's supposed to take, but it only took me a little over a minute to down him. After a little while, Felmyst came up, a simple Heroic Throw pulled her. A little more DPS and she was down as well.
Not a very hard fight. I recommend having a good amount of Stamina. I have 685k HP (38.4k Stam) with Commanding Shout and Visions of Insanity up. (I keep Commanding Shout up instead of Battle Shout for no real reason.)
Use Die By The Sword as soon as he starts attacking to prevent a lot of damage at the start of the fight.
Pop all of your cooldowns if you think it's necessary.
Berserker Rage and Bloodbath into Colossus Smash into Raging Blows and Heroic Strikes if necessary. Treat it as any other raid boss you'd fight, and just DPS your heart out. It's not difficult to stay alive, since he doesn't do much damage and is a lower level. If your crit is good, Bloodthirst will proc Enrage and you can keep using Raging Blow to maximize DPS and finish him quick.
Just soloed as a 90 prot warrior in my regular prot set with just a 200 parry buff from well fed peach pie.
I had no idea how the mechanics worked prior to fighting him, but I learnt fairly quickly that I had a stacking debuff, basically if you have a decent health pool and heroic leap or kite away during the last 5 or so minutes of the battle Second Wind will save you.
I had 556k HP and my item level was 503/505. Mostly timeless isle plate and raid finder epics.
That said, it was incredibly close, and I had 16 stacks before I killed him, and it was to the bone.
But now there's a big wall of fire in my way and I have no idea where to go. :/
Probably was supposed to kill Kalecgos, which I can't do without another... welp!
Just solo'd as a 498 Ele Shaman with 431k Health.
Beginning the fight:
1. Pop fire totem.
2. Pop earth elemental totem.
3. Attack, keeping flame shock up as usual.
4. Pop Healing stream totem. Keep up on cooldown.
5. Bloodlust + Ascendance.
Through the fight:
Pop a master healing potion if you need one. Burn him down, and for the love of purple drops keep that healing stream totem and fire totem up.
I killed him with about 40% health left.
I was soloing Sunwell Plateau pretty easily on my Hunter before 6.0...but now I can't kill Brutallus since his Burn ability is too strong for Spirit Bond to keep me alive before I can kill him :(
Soloing? Don't forget Felmyst! As a DK I used my AMS and ran through the flames, didn't want to wait. Big mistake! Excuse is that I've only done it once before, MANY years ago.
I have soloed this guy many times and before that downed him in a guild group and today I have done it again on my lvl 100 Goblin hunter. I have noticed something about him that i haven't noticed before. The weapons on his hands. They resemble those of the Shattered Hand Orcs in Warlords of Draenor. Now my questions are:
Did the Shattered Hand make this Demon in there image?
Did they worship Brutallus and cutting off there hands to be closer to there god?
or is this just a strange coincidence?
or is he just another demon due to the Burning Legion?
I ask these questions because there is no Lore on Brutallus. No info on him and where he came from. All Wowhead and Wowwiki gives you is that he is a pit lord and how to down him.
For everyone who is new to Sunwell Plateau - there is no escape from his area until the next boss (
) spawn. Do not panic, do not leave, just run around and wait. After you kill her, small opening in fire will apear and you can continue (Actually, Kalec will create it).
Just used the shadow step trick through the invisible wall on isle of quel'danas to get this guy...You can't kill him...meh
As of patch 7.0 you cannot jump down to him until his disagreement with
is finished, at which point he shatters the ice wall.
So apparently his
can be spread to the outside world...
For those of you soloing him at max level and are unfamiliar with the raid.
After killing him wait about a minute for
to spawn from the dragons corpse.
