Kalecgos is the main blue dragon in the Sunwell trilogy.
Is there anyone reason to damage the dragon, or can you just save your mana, focus on surviving and shifting dimensions, and only damage the Demon?
You cannot use divine shield to avoid the teleport
Has anyone confirmed whether or not DS clears the stacking arcane debuff, at least for the build currently running on the PTR?
how many tokens per kill? matter fact anyone know how many drops each sunwell boss drops?
To understand the lore better....why is he in Magisters' Terrace as friendly, why do we fight against him?
Good idea to stay mounted during the pull, as Kalecgos will create a force field around the room where you tank him after 5 seconds. Everyone not inside by then wont be able to participate in the fight. (Learned the hard way)
CoS does indeed clear the arcane buffet debuff.
This was meant as a reply for a post a couple ones up but for whatever reason it's being dumb.
Free Action Potions allow the tank in Demon phase to avoid the stun effect of Corrupting Strike, Meaning they can Dodge, Block and Parry, However they will get hit with the Damage.
If you're Tank gets stunned in Demon Phase its very hard to keep them alive.
As of 2.4.2, it's considerably harder to recover from a wipe using the "Eye of Killrogg" way to despawn Kalecgos.
Read the comment below for more details!
The above comment is not accurate.
Though it takes somewhat more effort in patch 2.4.2, Kalecgos
, still, in fact, be despawned. The difference is that the raid may no longer stand right in front of his platform while doing it. To despawn him successfully, everyone must first move back into the
small circular room right before the path to his platform
When you engage him from this position, he will not be able to fit through the small door once he reaches the raid, resulting in a despawn. Of course, your window of opportunity to resurrect does get smaller, since your healers now have to run the full path from the small room to the platform instead of taking two steps like before.
In addition to spell haste gear, it helps to have the healers mounted, with Crusader Aura, hovering over their run keys and ready to run in as soon as the despawn is complete. All in all, it is still quite doable as long as you are on your game (which you should be anyway, if you are attempting Sunwell).
Another thing to note is that Kalecgos seems to pick a
particular raid member
, and lock on to
target every single time once your Eye of Kilrogg dies (or your rogue vanishes, your hunter feign's death, whatever other engage method you use to despawn him...).
This means that there is no way around having the whole raid move back during the first despawn, however once you find out which target he locks on to,
only that person needs to stay in that small room
, while your rezzers may all move back to their pre-2.4.2 position.
As long as
none of them cast any spells
while Kalecgos is being despawned, he will run right past them on his way to the threat target that he is locked to.
Hope this saves a couple of raids from re-clearing trash, and good luck!
The description for the "Spectral Blast" ability is inaccurate. The targets of the portal do not take damage, only players who are too close to the target.
Edit: this has now been fixed.
Mages can blink through the barrier put up moments after the boss is engaged.
A good way to despawn him is to misdirect to a Holy paladin standing around 3/4 of the way down the walkway approaching Kalecgos with Righteous Fury (
) on. Have him spam heal a warlock lifetapping, and then run to the small pavilion at the back of the hallway. Your rezzers should all pre-select their rez targets and be ready to start their casts as soon as they get out of combat.
We have all rRezzers stand right where they stand before a pull. A tank goes 3/4 of the way down the walkway, gets a MD from a hunter, walks through the door in the pavilion, and wie do a MD pull. Kalecgos walks right to the tank, the rezzers can even enter the platform right when Kalecgos is engaged, starting to rezz the second he despawns when reaching the pavilion. If no hunter is alive or rezzable from outside, some engineer with rocketboots can also do the trick.
How many people can fit through one portal? With a group of 6 people, we sometimes want a tank to follow, making it 7 people. Is that possible?
now works properly, at least it has been for the last couple of weeks. As long as your standing in front of the human form of Kalecgos down in demon form, you will receive this buff.
As a side note, if you're trying to fight re spawn timers and you attempt to resurrect people from the opposite direction of where he originally spawns, you're eventually going to get a robot come in from the original path in the middle of your attempt. The robot will just walk through the barrier. Just a heads up.
Kalecgos has a human form named Kalec(half-elf).He is Guardian of Anveena.Kalec--->Tyrygosa (intended mate)
Having everyone (except tanks) throw on some Arcane Resist gear can dramatically reduce the raid damage in the dragon realm. Ideally a
Cloak of Arcane Evasion
Enchant Cloak - Greater Arcane Resistance
Effectively you'll be reducing 50% of his Arcane Buffet damage.
I'm going to guess that's off a bit?
"Aaaahhh... No longer will I be a slave to Malygos. Challenge me, and you will be destroyed."
"In the name, of Kil'Jaeden."
"You were warned."
I will purge you.
"Your pain, has only begun."
"My awakening is complete. You shall ALL perish."
"Hurry, there is not much of me left!"
"I need... your help... cannot... resist him... much longer."
Aaaaaahh! Help me before I lose my mind!"
I am forever in your debt. Once we have triumphed over Kil'Jaeden, this entire world will be in your debt as well..."
At level 80:
You'll want 2 tanks, 2 healers. Have one of your tanks and healers take the first portal. Once they're in with Sathrovarr, have all your dps take portals. Leave one tank on Kalecgos with one healer. Hero to kill Sathrovarr, then bring Kalec down to 0. All damage aside from the two bosses' melee is negligible.
During the Q&A at Blizzcon 2010 Metzen confirmed that Kalecgos will replace Malygos as the Aspect of the Blue dragonflight.
is this soloable with a level 85 BM hunter with a turtle
Fairly easy to 2 man. Downed him with a Resto Druid (with a bunch of damage talents) and Prot Warrior. Pretty much just dance back and forth between phases (druid pretty much just heals himself and heals warrior when they are both in normal realm for a few seconds), stuff only gets iffy near the very end. Get Sath down really low (but above 15% so kalec doesn't go nuts) when the warrior is down below, then have the druid finish him (so that when Kalec hits soft enrage, the warrior is up top). After that just burn.
Took us several attempts due to random despawns, a few deaths on the druids part and 2 enrage timer hits.
We had so much problem with him on a guild group. 1. Some smartaleck started the fight and 3 people were left put (we had 13 people with us). 2. We though we killed him and were happy and almost continued. Me and few others stayed behind to ress the dead members. Suddenly he appeared again and we realized he had re-set for some reason. The problem was we had only 5 people inside, 3 left when he "died". We called people back but they didn't manage to get back in before he re-set once again. Luckily few had gotten in and we finally beat him with 7 members in. Otherwise than those setbacks and having to stress heal the last two encounters, it was pretty fun fight.
Managed to 2 man this lastnight with a Bear specced druid (356 ilvl, some raid gear) and a Fury warrior (myself, 362 ilvl, no raid gear). Took us about 5 attempts to get it figured out and execute it properly.
On the pull, the bear put up only Lacerate and FF then continued to refresh Lacerate and do only auto-attacks. I auto-attacked until I had a full rage bar then waited to be ported into the other realm. Inside, I used Deathwish (but not Recklessness) and burned through as much of Sathrovarr's health as possible, using Enraged Regeneration when I hit ~40% hp.
Once I was inside, the Bear started a full tanking rotation to burn as much of Kalec's HP as possible. When I was ported out, Sathrovarr had about 45-50% of his HP remaining.
Once I ported out, the Bear removed my curse, I waited for the next application of Arcane Buffet, then immediately started to bandage. I then proceeded to do a limited dps rotation, basically just Bloodthirst for the healing.
When 5 seconds remained on my Spectral Exhaustion, I switched to def stance, equipped a shield and taunted the boss. The bear put up 3 stacks of Lifebloom on me, along with a Rejuv and was then ported into the spectral realm. I kept going with just Bloodthirst, Demo shout and Thunderclap.
Inside, the Druid went kitty to put up some bleeds on Sathrovarr, then went back to bear and attempted to DPS him down as far as possible, also having to make use of Frenzied Regneration.
When the bear returned to the real world, she healed herself up and bandaged, tossed me a few HoTs, then took the boss back from me. I still had ~80k hp left at this point, not having used my Enraged Regen a second time (that was where I had went wrong on an earlier attempt, wasting my regen on Kalec instead of using it for Sathrovarr and ending up dead).
I reentered the spectral realm with Sathrovarr on about 25% hp and quickly nuked him down with Deathwish again, once more having to make use of my Enraged Regeneration. He dropped dead with about 30 seconds remaining in the spectral realm, but it really made no difference. Kalec's enrage was very easily handled by the Bear and she was still on 95% HP when I finally returned to the real world. The last 10% of Kalec's hp disappeared quickly and easily.
This boss didnt bug the first time I went in last week, but now every time I go in he bugs. Each time someone was either afk, or DC'd. I wonder if that may have caused it. I hope they fix this ^&*!.
you can just skip him in 4.2.2, shame that he bugs rly...
Despawn bug has been fixed after a weekly maintenance, t6 bracers are in the game once again
Two videos I made about Sunwell Plateau. It shows me (Nobbel 85 Paladin) and my buddy (Eponympf 85 paladin) duoing Kalecgos. We tried to duo Brutallus, but got our butts handed to us. Aliceinchain (85 Shaman) joins and we 3-man the rest of the instance without a problem.
I hope it gives you a few pointers.
Part 1 Kalecgos, Brutallus, Felmyst
Part 2 Eredar Twins, M'uru and Kil'jaeden
If you want to read about Kalecgos and Anveena's story, it can be found in the Sunwell trilogy.
There are two collections of the Sunwell trilogy besides the individual books themselves. The Sunwell Trilogy Ultimate Edition and The Essential Sunwell Collection. The Sunwell trilogy is comprised of the following three books:
Volume 1: Dragon Hunt
Volume 2: Shadows of Ice
Volume 3: Ghostlands
The only real difference between the two collections is the Ultimate Edition is larger, hard bound, with larger pages/pictures and has a full color intro. Included within a brand new sealed copy is a pin up poster and a card from the WoW trading card game.
The Ultimate Edition is becoming harder to find but it can still be found for a reasonable price if you know where to look. Try eBay or Amazon.com if you're interested in this tale.
Ran this today. I think I messed up the fight because well. It bugged out.
As of patch 5.1, he is still not soloable due to the portal mechanics.
While Kalecgos doesn't seem to be soloable at the moment due to portal glitches, you can simply run past him if you wish, he's not a compulsory boss. Stealth is the easiest option, however using an ability that takes you out of combat (e.g. Shadowmeld, Feign Death) will also allow you to get past him. I'd imagine using Soulstone resurrection would also do the trick.
At level 90 you can simply hug the wall to run past him. No need for an invisibility potion or stealth.
Duo'd by me (brewmaster monk) and survival hunter at 90 Dec 31/2012.
I dps'ed Kalegcos slowly, while waiting for the hunter + his bear to tank Sarth (via clicking on the portal to go in). He killed Sarth, Kalegos was around 20% when hunter popped back out and bing bang boom we got our loot. Didn't seem to have any issues with portals.
He can be 2 maned... When he spawns a portal send ure friend in to kill the demon on the other side... Burn it to 1 health then kill the dragons and u win. Did it as a 90 prot pally with a 90 rogue friend both in fresh 450 gear.
As of patch 5.2, he is now soloable.
I attempted Kalec tonight with the new 5.2 patch on my crappy geared 90 blood dk. Got Kalec down to almost dead, he banished himself then ported me to the demon. I didn't have the DPS to down him before I ported out, at which point the bosses despawned for a few moments. As the patch notes say, he is now soloable.
UPDATE: Had a slight bump in gear ilvl (now 442) and was able to beat the encounter. My diseases finished him off as I was ported out of his realm. Also, I should add, if you are attempting to solo this, you have to finish Kalec off before the demon in the other realm finishes him off, or he will despawn and the encounter will reset.
After thinking it was impossible; I read a strategy about soloing this boss that actually worked.
469 Demo lock. Had my pet dismissed while I took Kalecgos to 1hp at which point he banished himself and after about 5 seconds sent me to the realm to defeat Sathrovar. I summoned my demon, popped all CDs, and after half a minute Sath went down, and that was the end.
It seems that having a pet out can mess with Kalec's summoning you to the nether realm. Previous attempts he would summon me there randomly and then back after about 15 seconds, at which point he would despawn. Not quite sure what exactly causes him to despawn but he is definitely soloable now :D
As of patch 5.2 Kalecgos is quite easily soloable.
Bring down Kalecgos
At about 1% you will be teleported to the spectral realm.
You then have 60 seconds to DPS Sathrovarr to death before time runs out and you're teleported out.
If you haven't DPSed him down in time you will be teleported out, kalecgos will despawn, and the encounter will reset.
DPS is the key here, I soloed him on a FROST DK (to maximise DPS) with only a 463 ilvl.
You take very little damage from Kalecgos himself, save all your cooldowns for Sathrovarr who hits a bit harder.
Popped Army of the Dead as soon as I went in to the Nether realm to take agro, nuked him down, and still had seconds to spare.
I just recently started extending my soloing efforts into Sunwell Plateau. After farming through the trash up to Kalecgos for gems to vendor, I started thinking about the mechanics of this boss encounter since I haven't been back to this instance since before Wrath launched.
For a Hunter to solo Kalecgos, your spec should be whatever you are most comfortable with. After a few tries, I noticed if you dismiss your pet before pulling, DPS Kalecgos down to 1% where he will banish himself. Roughly 5 seconds after banishing, you will be ported into Sathrovarr's room. At this point pop all your trinkets, stampede, etc. Once Sathrovarr is dead you be ported out, to a friendly Kalecgos, and Sathrovarr's corpse to loot.
Happy Hunting! Good luck have fun.
If you have a 2nd target in your group (party member or
) when you pull Kalecgos, you will be phased into Sathrovarr's realm early (@ ~75% of Kalec's health), as you would in a normal group/raid. That wouldn't be a problem, except you're only allowed 30 seconds to kill Sathrovarr (2.5M health) when that happens, and I'm betting the game bugs out if you even manage to kill him in that time, despawning kalec or not allowing you to finish anyway, since Kalec was never taken care of. I'm not positive because I need more ramp-up time for CD's, though I was close to killing him.
I successfully soloed this fight on my hunter just now, and I tried testing a couple scenarios. I pulled him with my pet dismissed and proceeded to
call my pet out when Kalec hit 50%
for curiosity sake and it worked
The way the fight is supposed to progress (solo): You get Kalecgos down to 1% health, and then you're phased into Sathrovarr's realm for, what is reportedly, exactly a minute. When you kill Sath the fight ends, you loot him, and Kalec is friendly once more. If you didn't kill Sathrovarr in his realm you're phased out and Kalec despawns for a few seconds, restarting the fight.
This is boss is pretty hard to solo :(
but skippable :)
I read a few posts to familiarize myself with some of the mechanics. Half-asleep and full of confidence, I decided to pull the boss and got him down a bit before getting flung into the portal. DPS'd the demon, got pulled back, and watched the dragon despawn. I furrowed my brow and then grabbed a friend. We went for a second pull (I on my hunter, he on his warlock.)
He had his voidlord out, and my spirit beast and it fought for aggro, which lead us both to believe bugged the boss. When I got flung into the portal, the main boss was on my pet. Without my pet there, he seemed to go into an evade (according to my friend). Got back out of the portal, boss despawned; we both gave a sigh and went for a third try.
This time he kept his pet on passive so mine could hold aggro. With his help, I was able to push the boss to 1% after he got pulled into the portal. I was later pulled in to join him, which caused me to panic. Fortunately, the demon died and the boss was defeated. Hurray!
Tried to solo him today as a Tankadin - he despawned at around 300k health. What went wrong? Didn't made him often, actually only once, for the achievement, as my guild never raided SWP. I guess I am missing something.
Kalecgos is soloable. I did it, myself, today like 10 minutes ago. What I did was I went Frost Spec, Dps'ed Kalecgos down to 1%, when I entered the Inner Veil, I opened up w/ Army of the Dead on Sathrovarr and then mass dps'ed him until he was finish, and there it was Klaecgos and Sathrovarr was soloed easy. :-)
despawned when i got out of the void. feral druid.
Simple directions from a DK vantage point:
Overall, don't pay attention to all of the non-solable comments you will find in the internet. It is solable now. You DO NOT need a pet, nor a companion or minion, etc.
Just save your burst to kill the demon and thats it.
Hope it helps. I know this would have saved me some minutes of research.
my DK (as comparison reference)
level 90, Frost spec, 484 ilvl, 2 Hand Weapon reward from heroic dungeon.
2. DPS at will
2.1 He will apply a debuff that will decrease hit chance by 50%. You will notice it, don't alarm and keep hitting.
3. at around 5% hp start building runic power.
4. at around 1% hp you will be phased to an area where you will assist Kalecgos (human form) fight a corrupting Demon (Sathrovarr).
4.1 at this point you will use your cooldowns and trinkets as well as Army of the Dead.
Kalecgos is also in the scenario "Theramore Isle" where you siege Theramore Isle. He appears at roughly 43, 36 and is a human
Just solo'd this boss as a balance druid. Wasn't easy with the stuns but did get him down with 2 seconds to spare. Used my Encarnation & Celestial alignment during the second phase in the void & that allowed me to kill him. Watch your health though as it can drop quick with him.
If I want to run a lvl 70 through this on a 90 so they can gear up in T6.5, what would happen? Would they be able to just sit out, and have it work as a solo fight for me? I'm assuming if they want in with me from the comments it would bug out, or they would have to try to solo the outside guy by themselves. Anyone tested this out at all?
Yup, the pet bugs the fight, I tried it a lot of times with my Voidlord out, but as I browsed through the posts here, I decided to reroll for GrimSac on this one, and worked perfectly! Of course the healer plate dropped, but nah!
Just dualboxed this with a i450 fury warrior and i399/419 balance druid in mostly resto gear.
Druid got ported at around 75% and managed to get Sathrovarr down to about 50% before it got ported back. At that point I thought it was all over but it just kept on going. When Kalecgos was at around 25% the warrior got ported in and I got Sathrovarr down to about 25% at which Kalecgos was at 1%. To my surprise the druid was then also ported in. Together we burned down Sathrovarr and got ported back out and the fight was over.
3x paladin/priest/warlock bracers dropped to sum up a weird encounter...
Soloed this with my 85 blood DK in 417 ilevel gear including Jade Forest greens and auction house blues.
This fight is simple. DPS Kalecgos until you enter the Shadow Realm. You then have 60 seconds to kill Sathrovarr. Go all out on Sathrovarr. He should die with time to spare.
Here's the video:
For the warlock solo runs, I did him as destro with grimoire of supremacy. After a couple despawns, I managed it by dismissing my voidwalker before the fight and then engaging him and dps'ing him down until I went to the other realm. Then I used flames of xoroth to instantly summon my VW and burned all my dps cooldowns. He died pretty easily.
Incredibly easy fight as a 504 BM Hunter. Go into the fight with no pet, get the dragon down until he ports you, once you get ported you can pull pet out and stampede. That's it.
Pet classes will bug out the fight. With my lock, I would pull with the Void and about half way thru Kalec's health I would be sent to the other world causing the fight to reset.
Dismiss your pet prior to pull. Then pull the boss. Summon pet. Enjoy.
Anyone else not getting loot when defeating him?
Never had this issue before

Kalecgos is a very old phased fight from years ago, and you're doing it now in an item level so high it wasn't even thought of at the time that fight was made. As a result, the kind of damage you're doing will surpass anything a raid from that era would have been able to do, so you'll break important phasing scripts, and as a result, you risk missing out on loot. So, bearing this in mind, next time you do the fight, try doing it with a white weapon or some of your gear unequipped to lower your overall power substantially, and use auto attack, so the fight can progress through phases properly.
On this occasion, I've arranged for loot from a typical kill to be awarded to you. Hope this helps you out.
Good luck with the rest of your week and take care! :)
2nd edit: Sunwell Plateau
Resolved an issue for players soloing the encounter that could cause Sathrovarr the Corruptor to not award any loot.
As a 90 hunter I didn't think to dismiss pet so just ran in and pulled anyway, just after getting ported to the other realm bit it bugged out and the boss disappeared. I opened wowhead to check the comments but then Kalecgos reappeared on top of me, pet pulled and I finished the fight normally, got loot as usual.
Just Soloed him as a BM Hunty ...
started without pet til kalec hp came to 1 and he got immune
then TPed to spectral realm then i summoned my pet and CDs and Bam! he was down
i wish this could help
Skipped him... Cos we couldn't bear to hurt him, possessed or not. After reading all the stories involving him, You kinda can't. lol.
Trying to solo him as a paladin for the tier drop for transmog. I get ported to the mind realm, but I can't down the demon fast enough(Prot pally witabout 15K dps), I get the demon down to around 75-60% before getting phased out and kalecgos just resets.
easily soloable as a lvl 90 fury warrior. 557 ilvl
Solo'd easily as ilvl503 Assassination Rogue.
Used only offensive trinkets/CDs... Simple fight. No problems with looting either.
Solo'd as Survival hunter with pet on ferocity, used a kind of sideways trick. Attacked him once, got ported, couldn't quite DPS Sathrovarr in time and failed, but as soon as Kalecgos respawned I attacked him again and got him down to less than 1% health, because he couldn't port me the first time, due to the 1 minute debuff that prevents you from entering any arcane portals.
Once he was about to die, he went immune and ported me, and I was able to take Sath down apparently without worrying about being ported out again. DBM said the timer ran out but it left me in there til I killed him.
Yes my DPS is lowish, haven't gotten a decent replacement weapon for my archaeology gun yet, just hit 90 two days ago.
For those that don't know, you can just walk by him (like
) without needing to fight.
As of Warlords of Draenor this dragon is soloable. They finally fixed the bug where you need 2 people. Woot!
Was soloing him w/ my pally, and as I'm in the "Spectral Dimension", a Sunblade Protector came in and despawned both Kalecgos and Sathrovarr. After they despawned, I killed the Sunblade Protector, and had to restart Kalecgos and Sathrovarr. Hope this helps, just remember to kill any adds near him before soloing, in case they decide to interrupt your fight w/ 'em.
Kalec: I dated your Sunwell, and now I'm dating Jaina! :D :D
(Not sure why this is being rated down; Kalec
date both Jaina and the Sunwell (Anveena)).
It is no longer a tricky boss. Just DPS it down!
First, I did some damage to the dragon until it had 1HP. After some time I was teleported inside the portal without clicking anything where I quickly dispatched the demon. Got teleported outside. The dragon performed the dying animation and I was able to loot it.
Nice and easy!
Soloed as 85 warrior then as 93. At 85 the bug still existed and I got him to 1 hp then he wouldn't take any more damage. I had to let him kill me after 30 min of attacking him so I could gtfo. At 93 he was nothing to kill. Easy.
