I'd suggest not wasting your time. Blizz has this one badly designed and frankly just annoying, especially for me I play off 6.

Reminder that you can control your ball !

To clarify "controlling your ball". Steer your ball with your mouse, hold Mouse2 and move mouse to turn like when turning your character. I was trying WASD for several minutes before figuring it out.

There are new action buttons you use....

In case you miss it, like I did, you click on the boom ball and one row of your action buttons gets replaced with new buttons. You select how you want to hit it and put down a green targetting cirlce. As noted above, you can land short and stear your ball to the target.
