Walk down the Path of Glory to the base of Hellfire Citadel. Then go around the left (South) side and you'll see him patrolling. He is fearable so easily solo'd as a Warlock if you clear properly.
FYI, this guy has a nasty knockback that can punt you off cliffs, and if you're fighting on an incline, can probably cause the falling damage to kill you.
Solo'd as a 62 feral druid. Took me two tries. He doesn't hit very hard, but his knockback can cause lots of fall damage. Second try I kept my back towards a wall, and had no trouble. He is stunnable, and probably kitable.
Drillmaster Zurok - 48,55 location
Found him at (48.2, 55.4). Like the quest info says, follow the Path of Glory until you're under the citadel, then there is a small path on the left (if you're approaching from the East). The Drillmaster is at the end of that path with a couple adds in his camp.
Killed him as a LvL 61 NE Feral Druid had no problem. But they are right his knockback will hurt you if you are not against a wall. the item i recieved from this is not that great compared to the Jerkin of the Untamed Spirit you can see the stats @
Recently did this with my mage. Was kiteable as a Frost Mage. Take advantage of when he stops to whirlwind. If he gets within about 10 yards, he can and will knock you back. Was pretty difficult for me but I soloed him first shot.
Solo'd with a 60 frost mage. It has not been so hard, but it wasn't easy either. I suggest you to wait a bit before doing it :p
Soloed as a 60 frost mage... fairly easy. Make sure everything is cleared before you engage, beware of respawns during the fight. They make it kind of difficult, especially since they repop so fast. Sheep them if you see them. I used a Water Elemental at the start of fight to keep Drillmaster Zurok from knockin' me back just a tad longer. (The ranged Frost Nova)
This was not easy for me to solo (61 BM hunter with above average gear for this level). Zurok hits quite hard, so your pet dies quickly. Thus you have to kite him around with pet growl turned off. As has been mentioned above, his guards respawn fairly quickly, so you have to make sure to clear the area completely, drink and start killing him right away, or else you'll run into respawns during the fight. If you don't clear enough of the guards around him, chances are his knockback will push you into one of the remaining guards.
So, I'd say unless you're after the added challenge of soloing this you should bring a friend (making this a breeze). You could do the quest before running Hellfire Citadel, for example, maybe while you're waiting for the rest of your group to turn up.
Soloed as a 61 afflition warlock. I went to the top of the hill/cliff where he is located, sent in the voidwalker to aggro him then pulled him back up the hill. Once he was at the top, I kept him feared. The dots did most of the damage since the fear keeps him out of range most of the time.
The area at the top of the hill is pretty clear of mobs, so it should be very easy for a warlock to solo this.
pwnt hardly as 61 hunter
Soloed as a level 60 hunter. Don't let that fool you though, he is tough as hell and i had to use all my CDs and trinkets as a BM hunter to down him.Good luck!=D
Soloed as a 62 enhance shaman. Used 1 healing potion. He hits mail for 350-500 with a ~450 knockback. Best bet is to fight with your back into the wall.
Solo'd as a 60 affliction lock in half pre-BC greens and half BC starter quest greens...by accident. Dropped down to the ledge above him and solo pulled two of the adds in his camp just to see if they could be cleared out and while trying to look over the edge fell into the drillmaster and the remaining add. Blueberry tanked the add while I chain feared the drillmaster and dotted both of them to death with hardly a scratch.
Solod on my 61 prot warrior. easy, just gotta stay near a wall
solo'd 60 prot pally
62 prot pally soloed easily. didn't have to use loh or a pot. slow and steady.
soloed on shaman on live: pulled him from a hill above, then got knocked up some more and just ran to keep where guards killed him. Now did same thing on DK in beta, however killed him myself halfway to the keep with Chains of ice+Icy touch
Soled as 62 Ret Paladin without loh. You must remember 3 things:
1. Kill all mobs close to he.
2. Bring some Heavy Netherweave Bandadge
3. Use BoW
3. When he will down first time your hp over 30% use Divine Shiled and Bandadge
4. Always after wirlwind go close to wall.
5. After knotback try to keep him away from you before he will cast wirlwind
6. When he wil downl second time your hp over 30% use Repetrance and Heal using Holy Light
7. When he will down your hp over 30% third time CD for Bubble and bandadges should be close to end or ended use then Blessing of Protection and bandadge.
8. If you have loh that will be much easier.
level 60 retri pally solo no problems just stay beside wall stun and heal halfway through kind of basic
Just killed him on my second try as a level 63 TG Fury (6.3k HP). First time around, I got him to about 20% before i was killed, second time was as follows. Basically, I rushed to get Execute spam.
Opened with Retaliation and Charge, switching to Berserker Stance in flight. Used Demoral Shout to reduce damage (not that it helped much), and wailed with BT and WW whenever my rage allowed it. Whenever he'd whirlwind on the spot, I'd fall back, use Intercept, giving me a few more seconds, in which to attack. At about a third HP left (for both of us), I used Intimidating Shout, pulled back, to heal as much as possible, before he'd move again, in which I'd Intercept again. At this point I was able to spam Execute and killed him. 30% HP remaining at the end. Not the most ideal strategy, but it worked for me. Also, the super knock-back tends to be a blessing for me (provided there's no mobs), since it sets you up for Intercept.
The important thing is to finish this ASAP, while he's pretty tame damage-wise, compared to other elites, he'll outlast a typical Fury warrior.
I soloed him as a 61 Ret Pally. If you got some heals and some buffs, you're pretty much set.
Soloed as a 61 feral druid. I tried two times, died the first time, got him the second time.
I was in bear form. Pretty much just stand with your back against the wall, faerie fire him to pull, then just go through regular rotations (mangle, maul, etc.)
When you get to about 50%, bash and pop a regrowth/rejuv. This should keep you hovering around 40-60%, depending how much life you have. Just repeat, and throw in healing touch or healing pots whenever you need. You probably won't be able to beat him unless you heal.
IF you want to do this in cat form (which I didn't try), or just need extra survivability in bear form, or just need to get off that last heal, pop survival instincts. It really helps.
As a level 60 hunter, I stood on the hill at 47.6, 57.3, used Eyes of the Beast and took my pet down to the bottom of the hill.
There I pulled a guard back to the top of the hill and killed him. Sent the pet back down to do the same thing with Drillmaster.
Drillmaster himself, relatively easy, with Mend Pet up, Beastial Wrath, Rapid Fire, was able to down him pretty quickly.
Soloed as a 62 feral druid in questing greens, just used mangle and maul and bashed when I needed to heal. Took a while, but was a fairly easy fight. Also, make sure to fight him with your back to a wall so that the knockback won't hurt you.
easily solod as a lvl 60 deathknight
This may be a little OP, but I soloed him easily as a 64 fire mage--he only got close enough to knock me back once. :)
Total easymode as a 60 DK. No pots needed.
I'd solo'd him as a 61 Blood/Unholy DK... Used Mark of Blood, popped my zombie, and used one potion... to keep from gettin knocked back into mobs fight him with ur back against the wall... Good Luck...
Soloed him - Lvl 61 Prot pally
easy solo, 60 blood dk. just ran in, frost presence, never went below 5000 hp. was using dk quest gear
Soloed as a lvl 61 Blood specced DK. Fairly easy, the only thing that drove me mad was the quick respawn of the other mobs. His knockbacks were... amusing i can say.
Soloed as a 62 shadow priest. Haven't used fear, just tanked him near the wall to avoid fall damage caused by his knockback and tried to do maximum damage. PW:S and Improved VE were enough to survive, also used herbalist's heal once. Relatively easy fight.

Edit: Added "toy"-comment.
Soloed by a holy pally. went near a cliff behind where he pats, from little tent to little tent and managed to grab him without pulling a bunch of mobs. Knockback diden't do anything because i was stiff on a rock while fighting him.
Soloed as a 60 Blood DK. When I was pulling one of the other orcs around him, he pulled as well and I thought I was done for, but with the help of
Mark of Blood
and a health pot I was able to take both of them down and still came out with 2200 out of my ~5100 hp.
Easy for my freshly outland geared prot warrior, I pulled about 4 mobs with him and had to use a major healing potion but i'm sure if you're less careless you can do without. the knockback only appeared to me once and i wasn't read, i'm sure if you're paying attention you can avoid the damage with charge.
Really easy to solo if you are able to CC him during his whirlwind, or if you're able to kite him (with the adds cleared of course).
this was a hard fight for my lvl 63 combat rogue (in full blue outland gear). just clear all the mobs around him, open with your preference attack (mine is cheap shot) and then unleash hell.
he seems to have a knack for doing a pushback attack right when you cast that crucial spell (mine was blade flurry and adrenaline rush). which is kinda sad. i ended the fight with merely 10% left. that is with popping a fel restorative potion (which restored 3500-something hp over time).
i did the fight with some outdated lvl 52 swords (2x assassination blade, crusader and lifestealing enchants) i was doing rampart runs for shadowrend blades whilst finding time to do this quest.
I found fighting him uphill helped a bit, but his knockback was still pretty nasty. Went pretty easy when I used my infernal on him (61 afflic lock), as the infernal kept aggro for a good long while and dealt a ton of damage to boot.
Solo'd as a 63 mutilate rogue, took all my cooldowns, bandage, trinket, and a nice bit of skill imo, also nothing can miss or ur screwed and need to vanish wait 3 mins and restart, heres a fight breakdown:
Have your first aid up to at least Heavy Netherweave bandages, i used frostweave but i think it will work with netherweave.
Instant Poisonx2 (not deadly, deadly messes with your blind and therefore your bandage, he doesnt heal so wound isn't needed.
Cheap Shot, immediately mutilate when cheap shot has about .3 seconds left 5 point kidney shot, when that wears off use disarm, once he gets outta that he usually whirlwinds, back away move back in with evasion, if he doesnt whirlwind use evasion anyway, mutilate with another kidney shot, mutilate again then blind, full heal with frostweave bandage and mutilate then immediately kidney shot again and you win, didnt need a potion or anything tho i used the burrower's shell trinket from AQ40 for it.
Soloed as a 61 Protection Warrior.
I tanked him. Like a Boss.
I soloed him on a 61 shadow priest, but the knockback ended up acting oddly. I stood with my back to the building, and when he knocked me back, it punted me into a corner that was slightly recessed into the wall. As a result, I ended up evading on him and, instead of getting the usual reset-to-leash-point action, he teleported me from the air down to the ground right on his position. Had to use a couple of fears, but otherwise easy.
I easily soloed him 62 blood dk never using 1 heal skill and i had full health by the time i was done killing just from my blood presence
I just love how "group" quests are solo able now, i soloed on my lvl 60 rogue. (mutilate spec)
cheep shot, mulitate and eviscerate cycle, when he WW run away and evasion when ever you need it, and last of all blind + first aid and ready to go again
this guy is ANNOYING
i did have some fun mind controlling him tho :P, i recommend doing it if you're a priest xD
Soloed as level 61 Unholy Death Knight. Used some potions =P
solo'ed at lvl 60 on my death knight
barely made it had about 20% health left
Easily solo'd as a level 64 Arcane Mage, kept kiting him with slow and blink while pummeling him with arcane blast/missile barraged arcane missiles/arcane barrage. And he was attacking him with 2 more mobs. If you're a mage, try my strategy. If you aren't arcane or if you aren't 64 yet, use Frostbolt.
Solo'd as a Discipline Priest.
DoT'd him up and then healed myself when need be, wanded otherwise. Not to hard.
Ethana of Cenarius
His is the drill that will
PIERCE THROUGH YOUR FACE!
Who the hell do you think he is?
Solo'd as a 62 mutilate Rogue (without my level 62 abilities yet), but had lifeblood and heirlooms. Used deadly poison on MH and instant poison on off hand, and had this
It took me 3 tries (thank the heavens for vanish) but I finally got it. Cleared everything near Zurok, even the two mobs down the way from where he patrols just in case. I opened with cheap shot -> mut -> kidney shot -> cold blood -> mut -> evis. This took a chunk off his health. I dismantled, and was subsequently thrown to the cliff. Ran down, more mutilates and eviscerates. Lifeblood when I got low on health. When it got low again, I gouged and ran away a little bit to start bandaging. He would have crippling poison on him, allowing me to get the full bandage heal. Then got a couple more mutilates in, killing him.
Zaptim of Aman'thul
Maybe the patches have changed him.. He was darn easy as a 61 BM hunter. My pet didn't come near dying and he kept the aggro up. Also there's only like.. 2 people you really need to clear, cause that's all I had to clear! They did not respawn as fast as everyone said...
This quest disappointed me.
"Drill the Drillmaster"? Really?
I expected to fight a Big Daddy.
Soloed with a disc priest at 4.0.3.
This comes up as a group quest.
Solo'd as a 59 Feral Druid no problems. Pounced to stun, built up enough combos for a Shred, and with bleeds on top of bleeds vs my HoT's, he went down rather quick. Didn't even have to pop bear form or Survival Instincts.
Just take the time to clear the area first, as he can launch you pretty far if you're not careful. Most classes shouldn't find him any difficult by level 60.
I just finished him on a L61 Survival Hunter.
First I cleared as many of the guards as I could, then I put the drillmaster to sleep and killed the last 2 guards.
During the fight with the drillmaster some guards respawned, so I resorted to putting him to sleep two more times during the fight.
The first time I tried taking him on, his knockback pushed me off a cliff and killed me, so I would really not attack him from any highground.
Soloed him as well as 4 mobs around him at the same time as a 62 prot warrior. I didn't really think he was that hard, they all together got me down to maybe 4k hp before I killed one and victory rushed.
Nerfed some time ago in one of the 4.x patches. Now non-elite and lower HPs than he used to have just like the other former group quests in Hellfire.
Not an objective of A burden of Souls as that quest simple asks you kill 20 shattered hand orcs, with no specific target.
