Keli'dan is the final boss of Hellfire Citadel: The Blood Furnace. The start of the encounter involves your party killing his 5 caster mobs first. These have relatively low health so they go down fairly quick. Keli'dan himself will then become attackable and the fight becomes a traditional tank, heal, and dps. He has three special abilities:
1. An aura reducing shadow resistance.
2. AoE shadowbolts
3. A close proximity AE that will melee and anyone else close need to run away from. Very similar to Herod in SM, he too becomes invulnerable during this time. You'll know this is coming when he yells "Come closer!"
This boss is relatively easy as long as you heal up for those -shadow resistance aura+ shadowbolts combos and also you must get out of the way when he says "come closer" otherwise death is heading your way. My friend 4 manned him all of them were 61 from what he said.
Could an Admin remove the Shattered Halls Key from this loot table, he no longer drops it in Live, you now need to do a quest involving killing a Fel Reaver (
The small cracks in the boss room with blue lights, gives a 30 second buff that increases attack speed(ranged and melee) and casting speed by 33%. Rage of Magtheridon.
2 phase fight
Phase 1: 5 casters
2.) Shadow damage debuff. This needs to be cured as it drasticly increases damage done by shadow damage. (1k or so)
Leave 1 sheeped so you can regen mana prior to the boss.
Phase 2: Boss Time
1.) Shadowbolt volley. Nothing you can do about it. Just heal through it and bandage up as needed.
2.) AE explosion: Watch for the red evocation spell effect. He will also yell "come closer". Just run away.
Simple tank and spank aside from his explosion.
I tanked him last night, 61 druid with crap gear. He is fairly simple, just avoid him when he yells "Come closer...feel the burn!" Other than that he does bounce around a lot because the best thing to do when he yells that is to get far away from him. So just let the tank regain aggro and commence the beatdown.
Same abilities, a bit more damage and when he does the "come closer" aoe fire he pulls all the ranged close to him. All run out, rinse and repeat.
Heroic mode: obviously the easiest boss I´ve seen for long tome. What is pain in the ass are the thrash mobs (Felguard Annihilators) before him. They hit very fast and hit for 5k for well geared tank, 13 000 on clothie, critted me for 23 000. You have to tank 2 of them at the same time, can be feared (probably also banished but we did not had lock with us). They can hit clothies with "pummel" when they are in medium (non-melee) range, also for 10k. Fear is your friend, but feared mob is randomly hitting (one-shot killing) clothies. Even two superbly geared healers cannot keep superbly geared tank alive when both mobs are hitting him. Thanks Blizzard, consider nerfing thrash mobs on heroic here and making bosses harder instead.
We were having some issues with the Felguards before Keli'dan's room, so we pulled a sneaky trick. We shielded our tank and had him Shield Wall and run in. Our Mage pulled the Felguards and kited them upstairs. Everyone ran into Keli'dan's room, and died there. Our Shaman Ankhed and rezzed the group, and our Mage ran back and ran through Invisible. We got a kill of Keli'dan without having to do the 3 pulls at the bottom of the ramp.
Group setup: Mage, Warrior, Resto Shaman, Shadow Priest, Rogue (Me).
EDIT: This was on Heroic, but I guess it would work for normal, although it wouldn't be needed.
He also drop DPS leather in this new patch. nice looking and stat=)
Did a 2k shadowbolt volley on me, i'm lvl 60 tank. That pretty much wiped us when he then started hammering me.
Here is a little something that you might want to keep in mind when fighting this guy: "Stay in the room with him!" After my group killed the casters guarding him, our tank rushed into the room and the rest of us stayed outside the door using our ranged spells. We had him down to almost no, health and then our tank died. When that happened, because we were outside the room, he ran back to the center of the room and was back at full health and all of his casters respawned.
We revived the tank and stayed in the room with him on the next try. Easy kill.
i'm a rogue and I was outrolled by a hunter on my shadowy embrace shoulders. Happens every time. 8|
He's not to hard on heroic, nor are the adds that you have to kill before him.
We did it today, with a Prot Warrior, Holy Pally, Feral Druid (Dps), Mage and a Rogue.
The felguards before him can be blinded. So each pull we blinded one, than used cyclone on them til they were dead.
The boss does hit alot, expecilly when he pulls you closer and you don't run out of the way in time. Almsot killed the mage in one hit.
I was easily able to main heal him (non-heroic)
63 paladin 6119MP(w/ buffs)
Make sure your group backs out when he does his fire chant.
For anyone else reading, he doesn't attack immediately when you attack his minions in the circle.
Can the annihilators be trapped by a hunter? Or just slowed and kited? We used the kiting method and it worked fine for us. A warlock makes it really easy, but that's no fun.
This boss is very very easy, even on heroic. As long as you get out of AOE range, there's nothing to worry about. We actually had our shadow priest and rogue die on the first AOE and me (feral druid tank) a hunter, and a paladin healer had no problems taking him down. Healer wound up at half mana. Didn't drop my shoulders though...
On heroic, this boss is easy as poop, but the thing here is that his AOE does about 9-10k dmg, and he will show _NO CASTBAR_ when casting it, so run like hell after he draws you near! (He shouts something like "Come closer.. and burn!")
Channelers barely do damage, and the boss damage is rediculously low. If you can run out in time for the AOE, easiest heroic boss ever.
When u get a chance look down to see the super-sized pit lord with channelers kinda like the boss party-mate said it was a boss for 25-man ...
kewl sight tho=D
In heroic mode, if you are having problems with Keli'dan the Breaker, try this strategy. Make sure you do all the proper preparations, such as shadow resist aura with a pally or prayer of shadow protection with a priest. Also make sure all debuffs are cleansed before the boss fight. (A good way to do this is cc one of the mobs until all debuffs are removed, and then kill him).
After the warlocks are down, have your party surround the boss fairly closely in the middle of the room. This includes ranged and casting classes. Let the tank get a good amount of aggro (7-10k threat on Omen threat meter). Have the tank face the boss away from the group, and his shadowbolts will not hit anyone but the tank.
When Keli'dan yells, "Come closer!..." have your whole group run out, including the tank. Once he does his aoe attack, everyone run back in. He should follow the tank when everyone runs out, and follow him back in as well. Rinse, and repeat.
Be warned - this is not a short fight if you do this correctly. You will be running in and out 6-7 times during the fight, slowing down dps considerably. The important thing about this fight is not burning him down as quickly as possible, but making sure you stay alive the entire fight. Do this, and its gg and hello badge + epic :)
I don't see this pointed out anywhere, but I found it interesting how remarkably easy it is to solo-kill heroic Keli'dan in an emergency situation for any ranged class with means to heal themselves. As a balance druid with my battle rez down and a dead party at 50%, I was counting on a wipe... But strafing around the edge of the room maintaining moonfire and insect swarm on him did the job. He didn't get any melee in and lifebloom/rejuv ate up the shadowbolts. My HoT/DoT combo probably simplified it with never needing to stop moving, but I can easily see affliction locks, ele shammies and shadow priests pulling this off as well. Real simple kill, I've had more trouble with elite mobs in group quests. ^_^
Keli'dan won't aggro at all until all 5 of the mobs surrounding him are dead (they're surprisingly easy for Elites). Feel free to use Fear as a form of CC.
As for fighting Keli'dan himself:
1. If you have a Priest, Warlock (Felhunter), or Paladin in you're party, try to Dispel any Mark of Shadow debuffs that get thrown out during the fight against the Channelers (if you have in-combat CC that works on Humanoids, just use that until you can get them all dispelled); the debuff will make it MUCH harder to deal with Keli'dan's Sahdow Bolt Volley. At the very least, dispel it from the tank, and make sure that the tank is the only one standing in front of him.
2. The moment he crouches and starts shouting his "Come closer" bit, stop attacking him and GET AWAY. You have about 2-3 seconds to put as much distance as you can between yourself and him; if you can't get far enough away, you're going to get smacked by a huge amount of Fire damage (Mages can probably avoid most of the damage with Flame Ward, if they can time it right).
3. Stand behind him if you're not the tank. His Shadow Bolt Volley will only hit the tank if everyone else is behind him, not to mention that any melee attacks against him won't be blocked or parried if they come from behind.
One thing people seem to miss about this encounter, is the neat little buff you can acquire once the 5 'trashmobs' are dead.
All around the 'circle' where he starts off, there'll be light coming through the floor, you can stand on some of these to recieve a buff which acts like heroism and lasts for 30 seconds.
<-- that's the buff.
From a healing point of view, the 5 adds in the first part of the event actually hurt a lot in comparison to what they do in the normal instance.
Rage of Magtheridon
, is obtained by running into green gas puffing up from the cracks along the edge of the room. Look closely for the green gas; it spawns randomly.
I just fought this guy on my 61 shadow priest... I was healing. Anyway, tank DC's and the melee are retards so they all die to his blast nova and then he went for the mage and killed him. I kited this guy around the room using starshards, SW Pain, and Renewing myself after shadowbolt vollies and solo'd him from 20% to dead.
So all you skilled priests out there, dont worry if your party all dies... you can solo this guy. I imagine druids and shamans can as well.
Soloed on heroic as a level 80 feral druid tank. It was extremely easy, I barely lost any health at all. Charge one of the channelers and use mangle and maul to kill him. The other channelers will slowly walk towards you while not casting shadowbolts. By the time the first channeler is dead, the rest of them should be in melee range for swipe. Swipe or glyphed maul them all down.
Once Keli'dan himself starts to attack, spam mangle while keeping lacerate, FF, and demoralizing roar up. When he begins to cast his nova, run out and feral charge in once he finishes. Keep it up and he'll be dead in no time.
If you ever do need cooldowns, use berserk on the channelers and all the rest of them at any time during the Keli'dan fight.
Immune to bleed efects.
Anyone noticed how the first boss of the Blood Furnace is "The Maker" and the last boss is "The Breaker"?
Is that a mere coincidence?
Soloed by a 70 Blood DK on 3/3/2010. Hardest part of the fight was surviving the casters at the beginning, I do not know if you could do it as a non-Blood Elf.
Buffs: Horn of Winter, Blood Aura, Blessing of Kings, Blessing of Might.
I LoSed pulled casters around the corner and used Arcane Torrent to silence them. They hit for a lot less in melee. Burned them down and headed to Kel'idan. Avoided his AoE crap. Had to use every CD, Mark of Blood, Vampiric Aura, Rune Tap and had to sacrifice a ghoul.
Gear: Stats are around t5/t6 level. Wielding a blade of harbingers. Had about 12.5K HP for the fight.
It's kind of tough, but very fun.
Edit: This was on Heroic mode.
I feel kind of bad when I pull him. He just sounds so damn upset.
What if I really DID ruin everything D:
Seems to be bugged. I'm soloing him on normal and his cast bar continues to show the "Evocation" spell, and he doesn't cast anything but instant abilities. Very odd.
Fun thing, he makes an appearance in warlords of draenor in the tanaan jungle.
Unfortunately, he now appears to drop everything on his loot table - heroic and normal. This MASSIVELY complicates matters for people attempting to farm stuff from just normal.
