My strategy to defeat
with two pets lvl 25 and another at lvl 1:
lvl 25. Skills:
lvl 25. Skills:
Slot 3 whatever pet lvl 1. (will not participate in the fight)
round 2: change to
die, change to
The absolute best strategy to defeat all pets,
if you don't have a large roster or are new to pet battles
, is to use an entire team of level one pets, as these legendary pets scale with your pet's level. When the pet is scaled to your level at level one, it loses most of its abilities and difficulty.
To easily defeat all pets, simply use three level one pets that are strong against the pet's family type.
Vil'thik Hatchling - Use
Vil'thik Hatchling Pet Battle Strategy
/way Vale of Eternal Blossoms 7.17, 32.01 Vil'thik Hatchling (On top of Pagoda)
Any Level 25 Pet
Vil'thik Hatchling 1:4UL7:221616M:222814S:ZR0:N:1. Shadow Shock\n2, Curse of Doom\n3. Haunt\n4. Black Claw\n5. Hunting Party
Finish with third pet if needed
If you have bad luck on this fight, you might need to restart

I was able to do this one with only a Dream Whelpling using Emerald Bite, Emerald Presence, and Emerald Dream. Just keep Emerald Presence up, spam Emerald Bite, and use Emerald Dream when you get low on health. It's not particularly fast and your backline pets will get murdered, but it does the job.
(2,2,2) worked for me.
Start with Emerald Presence, then use Emerald Bite until it's time to refresh Emerald Presence again. Use Emerald Dream to restore your health if you'll drop below ~50% in the next round. It's a long strat, but it's been consistent for me so far.
Your two back line pets will probably die, so not a great strategy for carrying pets unless they have a high HP breed.
EDIT: The pet I used was level 25 rare quality with a P/P breed, but I've been told people managed it with uncommon quality too. Can't promise it'll work below rare but if you're super stuck it's worth a go!
I used a sped up version of the Emerald Proto-Whelp Strategy (2,1,2) by adding both the Ghostly Skull (x,x,2) and Unborn Val'kyr (x,2,1) in the mix before bringing out the whelp.
Open with Unholy Ascension from the Ghostly Skull,
Cast Curse of Doom and Haunt with the Unborn Val'kyr
Cast about 2 Emerald Bites with the Whelp.
Use Emerald Dream to heal up,
Finish with Emerald Bites.
If your proto-whelp dies, your Val'kyr could probably finish it off as it should be up again by this point..
Can also substitute the Skull with a carried pet if it has the hp but it slows down the strategy.
For those of you that can't find him, he's atop the tower.
The Hatchling is at 7.17, 32.01 -- On top of the Pagoda
Beat it with:
Ikky, Unborn Val'kyr, Lil' Bling
1. Black Claw
3. Curse of Doom
5. Make it Rain
I've had pretty good success soloing it with a S/S Nether Faerie Dragon or Spritedarter Hatchling (2/2/1).
The strat is just 3x Arcane Blast -> Life Exchange -> Moonfire -> Arcane Blast until dead.
I could see it failing due to RNG, but you can probably just make sure you have a decent backup pet to finish up.
Edit: Changed it to 3x Arcane Blast. It seems safe enough and stronger against unlucky RNG. Thanks Aprofis.
They don't care about pet battles anymore. I've been able to beat all world pets this expac with Unborn and Ikky.
Also this guy has Omnislash. Lol.
Usually works in 5 rounds:
Ikky: Black Claw, Flock -> dies
Nexus Whelpling: Arcane Storm, Mana Surge
Maybe need to finish with anything doing Magic damage, I used Emerald Proto-Whelp: Emerald Bite
You need the hatchling in your third slot if it's not clear. I see a lot of comments that say 'use X third pet' you can't.
If anyone wonders: you don't need the shadowbarb hatchling to survive the fight in order to validate the quest.
Managed to beat this guy with Nexus hatchling and Emerald proto, the shadowbarb got oneshot by the first Omnislash and it still counted.
If (like me) you're doing this for the Shadowbarb Hatchling quest "The Mantid's Mettle" and your shadowbarb hatchling is level 1, just use ALL level 1 pets to fight this Vil'thik Hatchling (as the Vil'thik Hatchling will then be reduced to level 1 itself)
Shadowbarb hatchling in the 3rd slot and the first 2 pets you use just need to have a magic ability to kill the hatchling with, Shadowbarb hatchling does NOT need to damage Vil'thik Hatchling for credit to the quest
If you are doing "The Mantids Mettle" quest for the mount and want to use 2 pets:
Pet #1 Ikky - Black Claw/Flock
Pet #2 Anubisath Idol - Sandstorm/Crush
Pet #3 Shadowbarb Hatchling (Not needed just put it as pet 3)
Ikky will die (if not just swap to Idol)
Crush (just do as many as needed it will drop)
done.. The pets can probably be level 1 as it should scale but not tried mine were both 25.
(P/P) x3 worked for me. Used
in the opener and spammed
. Sometimes you might get unlucky, but it's really quick and you can always retry.
Works well with all level 1 Magic pets. I used Muar and Comet. Didn't even need to use the Shadowbarb Hatchling. After Muar died Comet finished the guy off.
Because my shadowbarb hatchling pet leveled up to 2, I was able to complete this with Chrominius (2/1/2) and Dream Whelping (1/2/2)
Chrominius up first
2) Surge of Power
3) swap to Dream Whelping
4) emerald dream to heal
5) emerald presence
6) emerald bite x2
7) emerald dream to heal
8) emerald bite
9) emerald presence
10) if your low on health heal, if not bite til dead.
Mantids' Mettle quest,
an easy mode is using
Gloop, Muar and your Shadobarb Hatchling all at level 1
For those doing it with the Shadowbarb and leveled it this is what I used:
Ikky, Unborn Val'kyr, Ikky, Shadowbarb
Curse of Doom
1. Black Claw
Haunt ended up killing him before the Shadowbarb was even needed. Most have Ikky first but Shadowbarb never survives long enough for Haunt to trigger. This set up worked on 3 of my toons.
i simply set up a team of
pets (just a suggestion to keep it easy for people who are new to pet battles) - no special strategy, abilities or anything else needed.
winning regular lvl 25 fight against this guy can be a real challenge depending on how many pets you already have collected and which of them might be the right ones for this fight - but when you use a Lvl 1 team, he usually dies pretty fast 👻
just make sure that your pet's first attack does a reasonable amount of
the winning pets will get a good amount of xp after the fight and eventually level up (speaking of a lvl 1 team).
so it might be a good idea to find a nice team of easy-to-get pets, gather some clones of pet number 3 and simply replace it with a fresh lvl 1, to make sure your enemy doesn't unlock it's next ability --> ❗
this is the case as soon as one of your team is level 2 or higher
❗ this way you're able to maintain 'easy-mode'.
pet number 3 is usually the only survivor... but if you're lucky and the enemy is almost down while your pets nr. 1 or 2 are still alive, punch him until only one or two attacks are needed to kill him. then start using the 'pass' button to
let him kill all pets that were involved in the fight and therefore qualify for XP
. finish him with pet nr. 3. always put the cheapest / weakest pet in slot nr. 3, this way you only have to find a replacement for
💡- works for any level-scaling pet battle, just chose the right type of pet / dmg / resistance for each fight -💡
I downed this without swapping pets, with just a level 25 Dream Whelpling (from the end of Emerald Nightmare). I did this 3 times in a row without issue, but you may need to give it a few tries, as I think this boss randomly targets enemies. It should also be noted that while I use sleep gas for this, I never successfully sleeped the enemy pet.
I used the following:
(Three rounds will pass)
(Three rounds will pass)
Hope this helps!
Very little RNG, may be breed dependent. My whelp is P/P. It's a 2.5 minute fight.
Round 3: Switch to Emerald Proto-whelp
Round 7: Back to Yu'la
Round 10: Enter the dragon whelp
I never make comments but I thought most of the strategies here were lacking for the shadowbarb pet quest. Your best friend is Sprite Darter Hatchling (S/S) , 2,2,1 . Moonfire, blast X3 , life exchange , blast X3. Dead.
I pulled this off with a Mini-Mindslayer (Eyeblast, InnerVision, Life Exchange) and Blood Boil (Ooze Touch, Expunge, Drain Blood). I didn't need the third but having sandstorm up probably would've made it not as close or a mechanical/undead with some hit power in case the other two didn't work. I used InnerVision, then Eyeblast, then Life Exchange, and got in another Eyeblast. Then I pulled an ooze touch followed by blood boil, then expunge and ooze touch. Managed to get in a couple blood boils, using it on cooldown.
Okay, so I tried almost all combinations with lvl 1 pets described below.
Nothing worked for me, as I already had a lvl 2 shadowbarb drone.
I used 2x Soulbroken whelpling and spammed Spitfire bolts. I saved my drone for last, so he could Shadowmeld + Shadow talon. Had a bit of luck with perhaps 1 crit. But I finished him off with this combo.
I hope this work for you guys too, if you already have a level 2 Shadowbarb Drone
How to beat Vil'thik Hatchling:
Unborn Val'kyr (2,2,1)
Eldritch Manafiend (x,2,x)
Shadow Shock -> Curse of Doom -> Haunt
Black Claw -> Flock
Surge of Power
Comment: At one of my tries for these tactics, something unexpected happened. Ikky died before he could flock, and he took major damage, and I lost. The next try Ikky finished this guy himself. On another try Ikky died, but required only one surge of power from Eldritch Manafiend to win. This is abit like fighting against Squirt (from garrison). Most of the time you win the battles, but a few amount of those times, you get hit a little bit too hard.
Please feel free to comment on these tactics :)!

Looking thru the comments here, I found I did not have the pets recommended, or they were at a mish-mish of levels that they did not work well together. So using type-effectiveness (ie Magic is strong against this guy's type), I wen with Netherspawn (lvl 1), Soulbroken Whelping (lvl1), and Shadowbarb Hatchling (lvl 2 from the previous questing). I was able to complete this. Shadowbarb is actually quite strong here - just Shadow Talon'd every time. I even had a couple of rounds with it where it went first
Nether Faerie Dragon 221 (I used P/P)
Start with NFD.
2. Arcane Blast
3. Arcane Blast
4. Life Exchange
6. switch to Chrominius
8. Surge of Power
you should be ok without a third pet unless you get crit, but it worked out fine the few times i tested.
(a pretty late comment but i just resubbed & did this battle for the first time today. at a glance this looks pretty similar to a lot of the others but i thought i'd comment anyway just in case it might help someone! 😊)
I used this 4 spells strategy:
Switch immediately to
Note: (you can be unlucky that Ikky dies before he flocks) Try again.
OK. I finally figured out how to do this pet without the tedium of the top rated comment. You will need: Unborn Val'kyr (1,2,1), Sprite Darter Hatchling (2,2,1) and Dream Whelping (1,1,2).
Now for the strat:
1. Start with Uborn Val'kyr
2. Curse of Doom
4. Bring in Sprite Darter Hatchling
6. Arcane Blast
7. Life Exchange
8. Arcane Blast
10. Arcane Blast
Tadaa. You win. No need for 3rd pet at all.
The rumors are true! Dream Whelping is an absolute beast for this battle, as well as many others. I soloed Vil'thik every time I have tried by using this pet.
I used Dream Whelping as a level 25 with Emerald Bite, Emerald Presence, and Emerald Dream.
The Emerald-Dream heal ability is
. Don't waste your time hunting and training other dragons for this battle.
Just get the Dream
if anyone has any tips on getting the valk/ikky combo to work for the shadowbarb mount questline let me know, ikky keeps dying before he can use flock or immediately after one flock.
Wow! That sucked!
I had to do The Mantid's Mettle quest for the Uldum mount and it just took me an hour and a half, and I had to go buy one of those battle stones that levels a pet to 25.
That tornado he spams, plus that attack where he purposefully attacks your back line pets, sucks!
I had to get super lucky and get a couple crits before I could beat him.
I used the Anubisath Idol, Ikky, and the Shadowbarb Hatchling.
For the Shadowbarb mount daily I was able to do this pretty easily with level 2s Lil'Tarecgosa, Emmigosa, and the Shadowbarb.
I didn't have much of a strategy going in, lost both dragons, but was able to finish him off on my first round with the Shadowbarb.
If I did it again I'd start with Emmigosa, then save Tarecgosa's Surge of Power until near her death so you aren't sitting there for 2 rounds doing nothing. Might not even have to have the Shadowbarb engage combat that way.
I think probably any dragon you have with a magic attack will do well at this level.
If you are doing this quest for the Shadowbarb Hatchling quest, know that it does not need to survive or even be swapped in for you to complete this. It just needs to be in your party.
will easily solo the
Start with and keep up Emerald Presence.
Use Emerald Bite 2-4 times until whelp is at 50% health.
Use Emerald Dream.
Rinse and repeat, maintaining Emerald Presence and using Emerald Dream on cooldown, filling in with Emerald Bite.
Your whelp should be nearly full health when it dies.
I spent more time trying to find this guy than do the actual pet battle. He's on the roof!
If you are like me and have crap pets but you're going for the Shadowbarb Hatchling quest chain-mount, here's how I beat it:
then spam Crush
Use Sandstorm and Deflection on CD
This will get the opponent almost dead.
Spam Hunting Party until opponent is dead
No need to bring in the third pet.
All level 1's just spam the 1st attack, you will have much easier time
Can sometimes solo this fight with Eye of Corruption(2/2/2) pet the drops from N'Zoth
Use Eyeblast on CD and fill with Netherblast.
I recommend 2 high health pets with either Surge of Power or Moonfire for high Flying damage one shots.I used Empyreal Manafiend(1/2/1) and Emerald Whelpling(2/1/2). I only needed to use the 2nd pet sometimes, never the 3rd.
For now, this strat works.
Howl Bomb is back. Incoming nerf?
5 Turns, carries moderately leveled pet.
Timeless Mechanical Dragonling
Leveling Pet with preferrably 800+ health
3 Switch to
(Not consumed by
Surge of Power
Be sure to drop by
if the invasion isn't switched on or you won't see the Hatchling!
