This is the first boss of the "Deathknight" (south-west) wing of Naxxramas. Strategies for defeating him can be found at
This is the easiest boss in Naxxramas. This fight requires your priets to be on the ball with Mind Control and they must have +2 or +3% hit with spells to do this smoothly. Razuvious hits too hard for a player to tank him, so you must keep an Understudy mind controlled at ALL times to tank him. If he goes loose on the rogues they must pop evasion immediately if they get aggro to tank him shortly.
You must keep Razuvious out of line of sight from the casters at all times or he'll one shot them all when he does his Disrupting Shout. If you set him up just out of Line of Sight at the bottom of the stairs on the right side you need to place the tanking understudy just in line of sight so the healers can heal it. When the Understudy's Mind Control is almost up have the second priest who is on Mind Control duty start mind controlling and get him over to Razuvious. The priest should make the Understudy pop Shield Wall then Taunt instantly to pick up aggro, having the Understudy auto attack is enough for them to keep aggro off the DPS. They hit pretty hard.
This fight is very simple and just requires the priest's to deal with any resist on Mind Control very fast, and the tanks to taunt the non mind controlled Understudy off the priest quickly before he gets to the priest. That's the entire fight right there. Melee can stay in and DPS Razuvious the entire fight and ranged dps make sure to get out of the Disrupting Shout so you can stay alive. The shout will do twice as much damage as you have mana. So if they are oom they can stay out wanding or auto shooting.
If you happen to wipe on Instructor Razevious, before you die run up to the boxes in the back of the room, jump up on them fast and the boss + adds won't aggro you. And you get out of combat. No need for soulstone!
Hunter specific tips:
- Stand on the opposite side of the opening from the boss so you get some range
- No multishots, 3-5 hunters spamming it damages the tanked adds a lot
- Use serpent sting since your not using any mana on multishot
- Some people come with the idea that hunters can stand out all the time since our mana is so low we can't die from the Razuviouses shouts but this is a bad idea since your dps will be crap
- Even if you're not using multishot you should feign death about 2 times in the whole fight
the are great for the +hit. since 2.0 8pts in chase to hit = 1 +hit on the old system. hopw this helps.
If MC brakes on an add, and rogues get to tank him, make the raid use
quest so the rogues with high dodge can tank him till the priests can MC another one.
Tip for Level 70 "extreme" Mode:
Razuvious can be tanked by a T5-T6 equipped Prot Warrior, but a good geared Feral Druid is **strongly** prefered.
For level 70 players wanting to do this fight:
If your warrior or druid has T5+ quality gear, he can easily tank Razuvious himself. Off-tank the adds and just burn Razuvious. You still should LoS the shout, it will still drain most of your mana even at level 70. This is easy to do if you tank him near the ramp, then just line of sight when the cooldown is almost up.
A note to healers: The tank will often take a spike of damage that must be healed up quickly. Otherwise, you should not notice a huge drop in HP too often. A well geared tank will dodge, parry, or otherwise mitigate a lot of the damage.
The level 70 extreme mode you mentioned worked very well for us, only he oneshotted our t6 drood tank near 5% with 20k something damage. Not that it mattered tho.
Raz was tanked by a T5 pally with 20k HP, still hit for 15~16k. This mob is one bad ass, /bow raz.
Gonna be in WoTLK, to instuct new death knights! At Ebon hold, where the Dk's start.
I think this fight is funny because at the start he quotes a line from the first karate kid... Sweep the leg! Do you have a problem with that!
8.3 million HP in 25man naxx.
Fyi this is still the "old" version of Instructor Razuvious.
In the 10man version of Naxx, he only got 2 Adds that can be MCed the same way however and
he has about 3,2million hp.
In WoTLK he is a trainer for the DeathKnights. Saw it in a movie on gametrailers that he gives quest to get a deathknight sword; I'm just curious if you're going to do naxxramas again in WoTLK if he's still in there
Instructor Razuvious (sounds)
"Haha! I am just getting warmed up!"
"Stand and fight!"
"Show me what you got!"
"Do as I tought you!"
"Show them no mercy!"
"You dissapoint me, students!"
"The time for practice is over, show me what you have learned!"
"An honorable, death.."
"Sweep the leg, do you have a problem with that?"
"You should have stayed home!"
Very fun fight at level 60, even though MC-breaking is very frustrating. As long as healers are out of LoS of Raz there should be no problem with healing. Use Amplify Magic on the raid and MC'ed mobs. I found that large burst heals (ie for a druid - Highest Rank Healing Touch) was the most effective way to heal in this fight, obviously take short breaks to regen mana as needed.
Jesus, Bacon of Light was putting my Heals at 4000+ Heals per Second. Once both students were taking damage, just stick a beacon on one of them and heal to your hearts content on the other one. Once both of them are near 75% health, I used Avenging Wrath and Divine Illumination. Mind boggling numbers...
We did the 10-man version of this boss earlier today, and the fight is quite simple. Definitly a good place to start.
The boss walks around in the circle with two adds. On your side, there are two crystals, "orbs of domination". These are used to Mind Control the adds.
We pulled by having one of the tanks pull the mob he was to MC while I (also tank) started Mind Controlling the other one. If you don't pull by attacking the boss, he'll stand there for a few seconds while you get ready. Immedeatly when taking control, I used the Bone Armor ability and started attacking the boss, putting up Taunt as soon as it was available. A few seconds later, the other tank took control of his add. After 15 seconds, half the Bone Armor cooldown, the other tank used the Bone Armor ability and taunted the boss off me.
When he did so, I ran back with my add to the back end of the circle, then released. As soon as he started running towards us, I used the mind control orb and sent him back in. When half the Bone Armor cooldown was gone for the second tank, I put on my Bone Armor and taunted off, and the process repeats itself. We had two occasions were the MC broke randomly - I'm not sure what's up with that.
EDIT AND NOTE: If you want to release the mind controlled add, the "leave vechile" button does NOT work. What you have to do is dismiss it like a pet. Either use this macro:
OR right click the frame and click "dismiss pet".
EDIT 2: Appearently, the Leave Vechile function now works just fine. Still, in case something goes wrong, right click your pet portrait and click dismiss :). Thanks, coog86!
The reason we decided to do so at half the bone armor cooldown was twofold - one was because my UI was messed up and didn't allow me to see the buff on my add, and the other was to give some room for mistakes. With 5 seconds to go, there's no reason to take a hit without bone armor, and it gives enough time for the other tank to get his off cooldown.
Healing wise, if done right, the fight isn't particularly bad though the adds need a fair bit of healing along with the group taking moderate damage. We had a Restoration Shaman with us to take care of most of the group healing but sometimes the Paladin healer helped out a bit, to. If one of the add controllers is a druid, remember that they can if they put their add far away enough put an innervate on one of the healers between re-mindcontrolling.
DPS wise, you'll enjoy this fight if you like big numbers as threat isn't even remotley an issue.
Tankwise, it's certainley a change of pace.
Good luck everyone!
If your wiping cause of MC breaking (Atleast 1 DPS will die then if both your MC npcs taunt are on cd) do what me, and me guild camed up whit.
While I tank, the other guy who controles the other MC tank, breaks his MC by using his own abbltiyes. Quickly get into MC again.. rince and repeat every time your not tanking. Best tactic for avoid MC breaking in a bad situation.
Hope you can all use this
If you have a blood Death Knight in the group, have him/her use Mark of Blood at 75% health on Razuvious. This will heal the adds for 2% of their health every time he hits them. This literally saved our raid tonight on this boss.
On 10 man this is an extremely simple fight. Have your tanks pick up the two adds right off the bat by clicking the crystals at the entrance to his room and tank him close to the top of the circle on the ground that he's standing in. The first tank will have a few seconds before the boss agro's anything so he will pop the bone shield which is 6 and then taunt the boss which is 5, then you'll maintain threat with 4 an ability that does quite good damage. As soon as the cool down on the bone shield is halfway through the icon call for the other tank to use their bone shield first then taunt off you. It's very important to use bone shield first otherwise you'll take substantially more damage. As your mind control nears the end of it's timer release as soon as the other tank has taunted the boss off you, then click the crystal ONCE to regain control of it.
-To clarify if anyone wasn't sure you don't need a priest to mind control for the 10 - man raid, I can't say with any certainty about 25 - though.
Done this on 25 man and I have to say its easy as well...You should have 2 priests to MC. Good thing about this fight is that hes shout will not own you now, for it only hits about 4k. Have ran into some problems in this fight you cant have the students tank each other then let the boss just kill everyone, make sure you get on the boss and taunt, and when your about to die use the 3 ability which is sorta of like a shield wall/and tell the other priest to taunt the boss, then if your channeling is low and your student is not tanking the boss, go ahead and break and reMC a different student that has more HP and get ready to do it over again by a taunt.
Beacon of Light
really is excellent here. Pop it on one of the mind controlled adds and then heal the other. If you use a bunch of cooldowns you can bring both of their health up a lot in a short period.
What is annoying about this fight is there is very little you can do if everything doesn't go just right. So many things can go wrong that it makes the fight overly annoying. I understand Blizzard's desire to keep fights "interesting," but this fight is annoying not interesting.
8.3 million HP in 25man naxx.
10.1 mil on Heroic (25)
downrate? this is the amount of health he has...
For those of you who know how to read one... the numbers speak for themselves...
And for those of you who don't know what to look for...
Heals per second = 10,131
Total healing done = 2,143,451
Total Healing = 2,836,706 (glyph did the overhealing)
Oh and @ the guy who said it heals the boss.... Look at healing heals out... 0 healing done to the Instructor.
Almost 3 million healing in 5 minutes...Absolutely amazing for a paladin.
Too bad I had to change around my beacon due to the MC breaking.
Edit: Lol at whoever rated down the post where I said Beacon of light is amazing. My comment on that still stands.
- 10 man
Raz stands with two understudy adds. The main objective of this fight is to use the two understudies to tank the boss while the raid DPSes Raz down.
MT and OT
: Use one of the mind control orbs to the left or right of the ramp to being controlling one of the understudies. First tank will cast use the mob's ability of Bone Barrier (reduces physical and magical dmg by 75%) and then taunt Razuvious. Once half the Bone Barrier cooldown is used, call out and have the second tank do the same (bone barrier and taunt). Rinse and repeat.
: The understudies will be taking a lot damage here and there if bone barrier timing isn't done correctly. Just make sure you heal them as well as the people using the mind control orb and the raid. Just don't forget about the understudies as they won't show up as pets (or at least they didn't in grid mod). Occasionally he throws a ticking debuff on a raid member and you'll see their health start to tick enormously, just make sure you heal through it.
: Go all out but don't pull agro. Without bone barrier, he will isnta-gib most cloth wearers.
This post is about the 25-man fight, from the point of view of a priest.
First, if you're a holy priest, don’t do like I did and leave all your hit rating gear in the bank. Without it, your MC will be broken more often. And when you're on MC duty, you really don't need all that int and spirit anyway.
If you're not a priest, please understand that this fight will be noticably harder in the 25-man version, primarily because your priests must do the tanking. Your priests are likely NOT accustomed to rotating taunts, etc. Until your priests figure out this fight, expect them to get a little trigger happy and mis-time their taunts. Our guild considers this taunt rotation to be the highest priority, and we keep vent clear to help the priests communicate better.
Here are a few tips for the priests who haven't tried the fight yet.
- Once you cast MC, of course you'll want to target the boss as soon as possible. I wrote a macro to help with this (a simple "/target Instructor Razuvious" should do the trick). HOWEVER, I find that when I cast MC my normal action bars change (surprise!), so to make a long story short the macro hasn't helped much yet. Next time I will keybind this macro; I suggest you try the same.
- To save time getting MC back up when it breaks/expires, I put a focus on the Understudy that I plan to use. That way I don't have to lose any time looking around for him. If you're not worried about targeting an Understudy, then you can use your focus on the Instructor instead and ignore the macro I suggested.
- When you're channeling MC, this will be your action bar:
1: Auto attack. Keep this going at all times. (Doesn't seem to toggle on/off; the button just turns this on.)
4: Blood strike. Spam this to keep up theat/dps.
6: Bone barrier
=: Exit vehicle (As noted above, this doesn't do anything.)
EDIT: Guild members have reported that in the 10-man version (when you don't need a priest for the mind control), the Exit Vehicle button functions just fine. I realize this conflicts with the post above from Torte, so something in-game may have changed.
Maybe some of this stuff is obvious when you think about it, but I sure wish I'd been able to read it before my first try at the fight. Good luck!
If you are doing 25-men version of this fight and all of a sudden you realize that you don't have 2 priests, don't get too disappointed - mage can tank this boss. All you need is 1 Death Knight Cavalier (
) that needs to be offtanked the whole fight for mage to spellsteal bone armor ability. It absorbs some crazy amounts of damage and death knights renew it often enough for you mage to keep spellstealing it and staying alive. Don't know how reliable this method is, but it can be done.
His grandmother lives in Redridge Mountians.
A small, but very important tip for the 10 Man version of this fight.
This might seem painfully obvious, or it might not, but after having my guild wipe to this fight many many times in a row before we realized this, I felt it worthy to mention...
When you channel the crystal on the 10 man version, you must target which Understudy you want to mind control, same as if you were a priest casting mind control.
The crystal is NOT innately tied to the Understudy directly across from it. You must target who you want to mind control.
Otherwise you will find yourself receiving error messages, and/or seeing your Mind control break 1 second after you apply it repeatedly.
After someone suggested that in Vent, we killed the boss laughably easy on our 12th attempt or so... There was much /facepalming all around.
Interesting, because it worked 2 days ago.... and there has been zero downtime for a hotfix to be implemented.... 4 people on my server have done it this weekend. I plan to try tonight. Solo mage of course.
There will ALWAYS be a 1% chance for the mob to resist no matter what, so just get the +3% and you'll be fine.
the 1% always has been removed from teh game mechanics - 17% is now the hit cap, not 16% as it is possible to be capped so as you never miss.
if doing this on 25 man- you should have 2 sp's in your group anyway for regen.
if so - mark the four understudies with for eg - blue square green triangle orange circle and yellow star.
1 sp takes blue and green
2nd sp takes orange and yellow
they alternate between each other for mc and they alternate adds to avoid the uncontrolled one.
ye dont need 4 tanks for this - ye can do it with 1- 2 understudies will be mc'd and 2 will be tanked by the tank. with the sp's swapping out with whatever understudy they need for that moment. adn teh tank pikcing up teh debuffed, un-mc'd add until it is ready to be sued again.
the tank should try to do as little as possible dmg to the adds and only needs to keep aggro.
shockingly easy fight with 2 sp's
Good morning, Understudies. I am Instructor Razuvious, and, for the rest of the semester, I am your master.
You are delivered to me, soft as newly hatched doves. I will turn you into stone. Under my tutelage, you will become unflinching enforcers of the will of the Lich King.
My strength and ferocity are famous throughout Azeroth and Northrend. Even the most robust of foes are cleaved in twain by my mighty blade. None can withstand my attacks! My enemies are cut down like wheat.
Over the next few months, you, my select few Understudies, will be trained to endure the withering sting of my blade. You, and you alone will be strong enough to hold your ground against the unstoppable onslaught of Razuvious.
I shall... Yes, do I see a hand in the back? Do you have a question?
Hmm... No. I can't imagine any possible situation in which training my understudies to stand up to my mighty attacks could possibly lead to ironic or detrimental consequences for me. I mean, how would that ever happen?
What? Well, I don't think any of my Understudies would ever be so disloyal and foolhardy as to turn against me, but if one ever did, I would dispatch him according to the "Standard Rules of Raid Boss Engagement." I would focus unwaveringly on stomping that backstabbing worm under the heel of my boot, while ignoring any other foes who may be in the general vicinity.
Unless, of course, there was another traitor nearby, with the impunity to taunt me while I was giving his friend a lesson in manners. Then I would turn my attentions forthwith to the interloper.
Oh, you think that's a bad strategy, do you? Well, Smart Guy, what would you do? Oh, you think I should go after the guy in the dress? Well, if that's such a good idea, how come nobody ever thought of it before? You don't have an answer to that, do you? Well, that's why you are the mere Understudy and I am Instructor Razuvious!
Now, if nobody else has any more questions, we can begin our lessons. The training area is right over there. Next to the mind-control orbs.
What's that? No, I think that's a great place to put them.

Jan 7, 2009 This boss may be bugged for some in 25 man. Several guilds have reported that only 1 priest in their raid was able to re-cast their Mind Control.
If you're encountering this problem, we found that right clicking the Mind Control buff, then re-casting (as opposed to letting MC run out) it on your target, it would land without problem. Hope it helps until it's fixed.
Strangely enough, even though this fact has been suggested in the posts, it has not been said outright: In 10man version, he has ONLY 2 UNDERSTUDIES not 4.
I have always loved this boss because of the ridiculously large amount of damage he dishes out. Even in old naxx a level 70 tank was pushing his or her luck tanking this guy. I have seen druids and warriors in t6 chewed up and spit out because of his
. The only time he should ever be tanked by a player is by a ranged taunt to pull him out of the raid should a mind control break, if he does manage to get an
off on you prepare to sort through your combat log for that 80k+ 1 shot :P.
Practising for the 25 man – (DON’T PANIC!)
For priests attempting the 25 man version of this encounter (i.e. with mind control not orbs) for the first time it is worth noting that you don’t need to use the mind control orbs on the 10 man version of this - you can use mind control.
Thus you can practise your mind control techniques and timings on the 10 man hopefully reducing the learning curve for the 25 man version.
Me and my guild tried this boss with only 1 shadow priest. What we did was: our tank "tanked" the 3 understudies while the shadow priest mc'ed one of them to tank the boss. When the Bone Barrier of the understudy was over, he switched to another understudy while the tank who was tanking the 3 understudies taunted the one the shadow priest had let go of. During that time the other tank sacrificed himself, giving time to the shadow priest to change its mc on understudies (the tank who tanked during this time was resurrected by druids 3 times, so u need three druids at least). We continued on doing this until the boss died.
(I know my explanation might be a bit confusing:D)
Just a reminder for the priests that are not used to MC.
Before you perform the initial MC pull, don't forget to mind soothe the understudy you'll be MC'ing, otherwise you'll need a pally bubble to survive his blows.
/rsay === I AM TANKING INSTRUCTOR ===
/in 10 /rsay === TAUNT NOW! ===
As of patch 3.0.8. vehicle interface has been removed for this encounter.
The normal MC interface is restored making macroing a little easier.
Actually this boss could be tanked except there is a problem with Unbalancing Strike! This hit is not mitigated by armor. If it hits it a 90-100k hit and you're dead.
As long as Unbalancing Strike does not land on you, the normal melee hits are about as hard as the strikes from Patchwerk except they land slower and 3 healers have no trouble healing that. But sooner or later you're going to get an Unbalancing Strike and die.
Should mages cast Amplify Magic on the raid and the adds once they are mind controlled?
Did this boss yesterday on 25 man, when we got to it we realized that we lacked one priest due to disconnect... anyways we first tryed him with only the one priest and we failed due to uncoordinated actions, but then we came up with a new way to do this encounter with only one priest:
First off all your gonna have to kill at least one of the adds, at the same time the priest should MC on add and tank the boss, all ranged should stand at the "stair" down to where the boss is and tanks should stay at the bottom. Then as the MC reaches like 5 sec left the priest should guide his target at the opposite direction of the casters, and all melee should run up to the casters and even a little further...
This will give the priest more time to MC his next target without many ppl getting killed by Instructor Razuvious. We made it on the first try due to this tactic. hope it might help others if they lack Priests =)
Two days ago we had very big problems on this encounter. The MC had broken very fast and we were not able to kill the instructor. It was very frustrating and we were all $%^&ed, especially the priests involved.
Then we noticed something very special. That was our first attempt with three pallys in the group. One got the devotion aura, another one the concentration aura and i took the shadow resistance aura.
Our raidleader told me to turn the shadow resistance aura off, maybe thats the reason for the problems. And what happened? We killed him in the first attempt.
So make sure no paladin has got the shadow resistance aura active.
It seems that because of the channeling nature of mind control and the shadow resistance the adds get, they will resist during the channeling and it will brake, wipeing your raid.
I was really !@#$ed :(
If you have trouble finding priests to do Instructor Razuvious on the 25 man version on naxxramas you can actually skip him.
I cant confirm this 100% since i figured it out on accident and we didnt skip the boss :)
What you need to skip him;
A warlock to summon the people that died and released.
+ 2 other people to help him summon :)
What to do;
Pull Instructor Razuvious.
Run to the other side of the area where he is standing in.
Look how the rest dies and then summon them.
Original story what happend;
Our priests missed mind control and took aggro that way.
After they died we called it a wipe and people started running away.
I figured out we would die running anyway so i tried to run to the other side of the area he is standing in and hoping he wouldnt aggro me.
I'd like to reiterate a comment made earlier because I feel it is critical and easily lost in the 45+ comments. If you are a priest - PRACTICE ON THE 10-MAN. It's easy to let your tanks use the controlling orbs, but from personal experience I can say that if the 25-man is the first time you have ever tried this, you are guaranteed several wipes and an unhappy raid.
The mind-controlling orbs are not necessary, just a nice way to let a smaller group without priests finish this encounter. My recommendation is if you are on the 10-man, whether shadow or healer, ask your party to let you MC and practice since you will need to be able to do this encounter at some point.
If done right, your group can get through this easily even with 1 less healer, and you won't cause tears when you're required to do it in the 25-man. :)
For Priests Mind Controlling on the 25 man version:
If you're using the method where you rotate mind controls between two mobs (so as to reduce diminishing returns) make sure to break your initial mind control with something other than a mind control on your next mob.
I learned this the hard way :-(. Break your mind control with PW:S or by clicking the buff off, otherwise your subsequent mind controls are likely to fail.
Few words about healing.
Be sure to assign a holy Paladin to heal the adds (both 10 and 25 man).
No other healer is needed on them and Paladin fits this roll best. If he got any problems with healing, some help from raid healers should solve it.
He should cast a
Beacon of Light
on one of Deathknight Understudy, and heal other one.
From my healing experience it is possible to heal both adds close to maximum hp all the time of this encounter (on heroic) being only healers assigned to heal them. Other healers should focus on tanks, raid and You.
It has been shown that he is tankable by a warrior without mind controlling any Understudies... a Taiwan guild did it a couple of weeks in a row and put one of the attempts up on Youtube...
For some reason there seems to be a way to get him NOT to use Unbalancing Strike, doesn't seem to be an issue of mere crazy luck.
Anyone figured out what the trick is?
EDIT - there seems to be a bug exploit where Dancing Rune Weapon disarms the Instructor for the duration of the fight, and without his weapon he cannot cast Unbalancing Strike...
(It seems to be a reported bug)
I hope they patch that up soon...
he has my favorite line in the game
"You should have stayed home!"
I've been doing this fight every week in 25 man for months and have never had a problem with MC breaking until this last week (week of March 11th).
Every single damage tick from the spear and the disrupting shout broke MC for both my priest and the other one MC'ng with me (we're both max hit). Since the disrupting shout is raid wide, it was a guaranteed break every 15 seconds and then the spear damage prevented either of us from re-MC'ing until the debuff fell off. And of course by then you're done and have to wipe or reset.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
As 1 of the MC'ing priests i use following macros:
Focus macro for Understudies:
#showtooltip Mind Control
/cast Mind Control; Mind Control
#showtooltip Bone Barrier
When your Bone Barrier is 1-2 secs away from going off i spam this:
/w <Insert other Mc'ing priest's name> <TAUNT!>
/w <Insert other Mc'ing priest's name> <TAUNT!>
/w <Insert other Mc'ing priest's name> <TAUNT!>
If anybody cares, there's a spelling mistake on blizz's part under the statistics page, for instructor razuvious kills. It reads: Instructor Ra
uvious kills. It is spelled like this on both the 10 and 25 man statistics.
On 25 man I know priests have to MC the understudies but does the frost aura DK(Not option able to turn off) effect the MC? I know they get the buff but the resist only help them resist the initial cast not after their MCed right? please get back to me on this.
make sure you have party frames avaialable to release your pet.
make sure any other custom addons like bartender are setup to enable a MC bar.
make sure to post another thread on the wow forums requesting no more pet or siege encounters in raids.
Make sure to have at least two priest in your raid..
My raid experienced a slight glitch while doing this encounter. About half way through, one man dismissed his understudy to refresh, and found he was unable to get control of him at all. He clicked off his portrait and back on, but to no avail, resulting in a wipe(I vanished. Yay Rogue)
Anyone else experience this?
Having Problems with Razuvious in Heroic mode?
1. Make sure you have no Death Knights with the talent '
' in range of your party. Since mind controlled targets become party members they gain the resistances granted by Frost Aura, which will be a base of 80 Shadow resistance (contributing to frequent MC breaks).
-Frost Aura is currently a talent, and it cannot be removed from your buff tray. Death Knights with this spec must stay far out of range of the raid.
2. Ensure no Paladins in your raid have "
Shadow Resistance Aura
" active, this works the same way as Frost Aura.
3. Ensure Paladins in your raid do have Concentration Aura active. There is an active AoE during this fight, each time your priests take damage it reduces their channeling time. Concentration Aura is very handy.
5. Make sure that the mind controlled mobs stand relatively still, moving them around causes the MC channeling duration to decrease.
4. Don't concern yourself with Hit rating, it is almost unnecessary if you follow the conditions above. Holy/Disc priests shouldn't have any noticeable issues if the fight is done correctly.
Does anyone know how to get armour like his?
I heard there was a way to get his armour in the old naxx, but was removed.
What were these pieces or set called?
So, anyone know any armour sets or pieces that you can get to look like his?
Having spent an evening wiping on the 10-man version of this guy, I'd certainly refute claims that he's the "easiest in Naxxramas".
There is zero room for error, particularly on the part of the rent-a-tanks. Both must stay alive and, unless you have a few truly terrific healers, must not get hit without Bone Barrier up
. DPS must be high enough to finish Raz off before the tanks are ground down (this will inevitably happen - his DPS will top the HPS unless there's some out-gearing going on), while the healers simply have to try and keep whichever tank is being hit alive for as long as possible.
Just remember that having two tanks does not mean you can lose one. As soon as one tank goes down, you have roughly the length of the remaining one's Bone Barrier to survive.
Easiest in Naxx? No boss in either Arachnid or Plague quarters even approaches this chap.
The crystals in 10-man reacts much differently that I read up to now.
They don't need targetting. If this was true before, it is not now. They target the closest understudies,
even if the closest is already mind controlled.
This can create a "target is already charmed" problem. It is very simple to go around, but its extremely frustrating when you don't know what is causing it, which caused us a few wipes.
Our guild did this last night for the first time in 10-man naxx, and it seems having a focus target set will interfere with trying to renew the mind control using the orbs.
After our first wipe I DI'ed the priest to res us, which caused him to be a focus target due to my DI macro. On our second attempt I released the mind control to renew it, but it failed to renew due to the error "That target cannot be charmed". Once I removed the focus target from our priest everything worked fine again.
So for 10-man at least, if your on MC duty, make sure you don't have a focus target set.
It should also be noted that the Understudies are now Taunt Immune. It used to be a viable strategy that when the priests release mind control to refresh it a tank could pick up the understudy and keep them in position and not hitting the priest. This no longer works.
We were also having major problems with the mind control breaking early. The priests were reporting that pretty much every time after they used their taunt on the Instructor their mind control would break. Not sure if we had any shadow resistance auras up or not but it was a major pain.
He hit me for 227,000 damage. I bet he could kick the Lichkings ass.
Understudy: Sir, I believe I have a counter argument to that, it is widely known that
Lord Victor Nefarius
, a very powerful dragon, thought going first for the guy in the dress with glowing hands was a good idea..
Instructor Razuvious: Well, tell me this then, were is this Nefarius you speak of? Last time I saw him, his
was hanging in Stormwind and Orgrimmar at the same time. Good idea? I think not!
He doesn't use Unbalancing Strike more than once every minute or so. So a geared ToC25 tank blowing cooldowns could theoretically tank him if they knew when he was going to use it. I had some luck as a prot pally with Ardent Defender on a one-priest-run. Expect a chaotic fight though; he hits like XT on hard even without that move.
If you're that geared you're probably just in Naxx to mess around anyway. :)
A little fun fact. If you put all the "Icebane" gear together (This includes the pre-BC ones, so it's nearly impossible to do now because of the Grobbulus drops), with the exception of the boots (Use the Glacial Boots/Slippers/whatever instead) you can look like this guy (Well, at least his outfit).
Anyone else noticed a glitch, where after you Down Raz, you get some random crazy numbers on his adds? My prot warrior doesnt normally crit for 91k with revenge >.>
This is so much of a joke now. We just did this boss for the weekly raid quest, we had mostly gearscores between 4200-4800. I was meant to control one and some other moron decided it would be fun if he controlled it instead. He got his killed faster than you could say wtf. We then went and killed the boss with 2 dead and 1 control left. It was very easy.
A note about 10 Man Mind Control
It is extremely important to allow one mind controller to get his add up and running before you start trying to control the second. We had a raid wipe today because both tried to control their add at the same time and both ended up with the same add!. Mass confusion followed by wipe.
Killed him on 25 man today without MCing the adds. It was the weekly.
Even though our pally tank was in mostly ICC25 gear (avg ilevel of 260) with 55K buffed HP, 4pt10.5, Razuvious would still one shot him.
We got around it by using 3 tanks and having 3 druids in the raid. Started by aoeing the adds then burning raz. Every time he popped our tank, another tank would pick him up, then we would rez the MT who would taunt and tank. Killed him before running out of battle rezes.
Raz is actually fairly difficult at level 85, not so much because of mechanics but because a) Understudy threat received nerfs in 4.0 (notably Heroic Strike gained a 3-second cooldown) b) the Understudies don't scale with your level or stats. It's very easy to pull aggro, and while he won't one-shot anyone until he decides to use Unbalancing Strike, your healer would go OOM in <20 seconds trying to keep a non-tank up under his damage.
Because of the understudy nerfs, you'll want a level 85 tank with raid-ready gear to tank this fight - or else DPS who have a lot of patience and are good at holding back.
The main challenge with player-tanking Raz now isn't that he hits hard, it's that he hits fast. His autoattacks hit me for around 30k (guesstimate) before block, on what I'd estimate is a 1-1.5 s swing timer. Unbalancing Strike hit for 100k (I'm a prot warrior in 346 tanking blues, a couple 359 tanking purples, and 2 avoidance/mastery trinkets). If I hadn't had Shield Block to negate the -defense debuff immediately afterwards, that would have been hairy. Even with Shield Block it meant a lot of heal spamming to get me back up to full.
Soo ... What happens if you don't mind control one of the death knights.
You can actually skip this boss entirely if you want. If you wait until he's patting off to the far right, you can stealth/potion of invisibility past him. Mostly adding this for anyone who just wants to try their luck at soloing Gothik/Horsemen, as anyone running Naxx with a few guildies shouldn't have much of an issue killing this boss.
I think it's impossible to solo this as a hunter. Even as full pet specced BM, the Unbalanced Strike can easily hit for more hp than your pet has, and it hits too often to be negateable by cooldowns.
As of today this boss can be soloed again by a blood DK now that gear has caught up.
You will need a minimum ilevel of 378 worth of gear to do this boss, and full consumables (fort scroll, stam flask, kings drums, food buff). You will stack mastery with double stam trinkets. I had ~210K HP and 23 mastery today (note that I had 30K less HP and about 4 less mastery when I did it back in March before blood shield in unholy presence got nerfed). Hit/exp cap are nice but not really necessary, but don't forgo them either.
Start with one crystal to MC one of the adds. Taunt Raz and bring him as far towards the back of the room as possible. Put up bone shield and spam blood strike until the add dies. When it dies, use army and tank Raz and the other add. As before, you will pestilence diseases back and forth from Raz to the understudy to consume blood runes, otherwise do nothing but spam DS/RS on Raz with intelligent rotation of cooldowns depending on your blood shield state and rune regen.
Getting bad RE procs or a really bad streak of DS parries/misses will likely wipe you at this item level of gear, but by the time your gear level is ~391 or greater it should no longer be possible to wipe to this boss.
Raz's melee swings are about 15-25K and Unbalancing Strike is anywhere from 60-80K, on a DK in this gear with blood presence. Jagged Knife and Disrupting Shout hit for virtually nothing and are non-factors.
For the time being DKs remain the only class capable of soloing this boss and barring major changes, will likely be the only class that can solo it until the next expansion.
Am I the only one to remember of Guile from Street Fighter when looking at him? I mean an "undead" version of him (you can see that he even grew a beard after some time dead). I mean, look at his
For those attempting to solo this boss, be wary of the the Unholy Axes in the room behind him those can end your attempt fast if they get involved in the fight.
However, with 4.3, it is definitely possible-- it was possible as a Blood DK back in 4.2, but extremely hard.
I pulled it of as a il376 full Tank Gear Blood DK in 4.3.
~60% Armor, 15.6% Dodge, 15.3% Parry, 24.83 Mastery, with procing 2573 from LFR Stam/Mastery Proc Trink.
MC first Understudy. Taunt both mobs (Boss first, then other understudy).
Run to the room behind him (Being wary of those damn Unholy Axes)
First Understudy died.
MC'd second Understudy.
Ran back after taunting the boss.
Went to freaking town- cycled cooldowns, etc. fairly tough fight.
Word of wisdom: Do. Not. Miss. With Outbreak. And don't let Scarlet Fever or Frost Fever ever drop off.
Be warned: The RNG can easily kill you here: You're NOT crit immune during the debuff from Unbalancing Strike.
This is doable, yet fairly hard. Me (prot warrior) and my hunter friend charged managed to kill him, but I died at the very end
We just ran in, kill the death knights as fast as possible, then burned the boss. My ilvl is 387.
Just solo'd this on my Blood DK, 396ilvl Equip Tank gears (And a Gurthalak). What I did was, MC the first guy, let him die, then quickly killed the second one. After that I went on to the boss. I found this to be one of the trickiest fights to solo. You need to spread out your defensive cooldowns. There was a point during the fight where I had used all my cooldowns and dropped to about 30k HP, but I managed to pull through. I also had to use a bandage at one point. I did 12.5k dps and 4.8k HPS and took 1.38 Million Damage overall. Anyone trying to solo this, I suggest you get food/flasks, a pot and bandages if you can. Good luck!
Just solo'd, 402 ilvl blood dk. Didn't think it was possible but I really wanted the 1H sword off Gothik, so I gave it a shot. Pulled him and the 2 adds, killed first add, then second, and then Boss, I never got below 50% hp.
Unbalancing Strike will now increase your chance to be critically struck, instead of reducing your defense, in Patch 5.0.
when soloing, 10 man mc one add then pull other add and boss into the next room(but away from unholy weapons) after the add dies, you will have enough time to lose debuff before the boss and add reach you
the boss hits very hard and i don't see how most classes can solo this other then dks and maybe palidans. saved cooldowns for right after unbalancing strike and pray i can i have the runes for 2 death strikes after it.
I would also like to throw in, for this boss and only this boss i did it in tank gear. he didnt enrage and it made his strikes survivable
Just finished him. Of course blood dk. item lvl approx 370. full consumables are necessary(drums, flask, food). Stack as much mastery as possible. Necessary HP pool should be around 180k.
All tanking gear 10% doodge, 20% parry. But have two dps trinkets from 378 dungeons.
Use cd's very smoothly,
Firstly I use gnoul , just for taking unbalanced strike when i switched to another understudy.
That pop up vampiric blood and DS, RS. Keep scarlet fever and all deseases up all the time. Kite him on circles, cause if You stand he will rape You :),
Than dancing weapon, IF if it is getting nasty, by this moment vampiric blood will be ready once more, then gnoul will be ready too. Rinse and repeat.
DO NOT USE CD when You don't need them, save them for hard times. For example If You are lucky and Unbalnced Strike is missing do not pop up vampiric blood, just keep up DS etc.
For myself, I used Cd when I was under 100rk.
Of course need to be fully hit capped and expertise should be on a pretty decent lvl - I lack 6.25%
His unbalancing strike has (finally) been upgraded. The original one reduced defense by 100, yet remained unchanged after defense was removed. When 5.0 came out his debuff now increases the critical chance against the target. I am not sure if this came with 5.0 but I don't recall seeing it until now. I'm not sure what the increased crit rate is either.
Super trivial to solo as a 90 Blood DK now.
People downrate? I copy and paste, see where this goes.
This post was back from 5.0.4, only thing I can add now is that everyone knows he's trivial to solo as blood dk at 90 like the above poster said.... but even at 85 it can be done in dps gear now at 25-man, I had item level 403, was actually hard, but with a good cd rotation I killed him in 4 mins and 30, wouldn't have survived much more, but made it.
This post was about doing him at 85 BEFORE patch 5.0.4, and back then it was a real tank gear check, but here is it.
Let's see also something at 25, since he died at 25 as well now.
His unbalancing strike does like 70k on 10, which becomes almost 100k on 25, so actually he hits a bit harder, and also melee hits are harder; I also have the feeling he does unbalancing strikes more often on 25!
Then ofc he has 4 adds which deal 5k each, so you have to kill adds first.
Starting with army is a really nice idea to stack blood shield.
Getting to the boss requires an invisibility potion, NEVER engage
death knight cavaliers
on 25 man, they have a shield which absorbs 1,2 millions damage, refreshed after 1 minute!
So, I was able to solo him on 25 at 392 tank gear using also 90 stamina and strength food + runescroll of fortitude, all for more healing and absorb, this boss is just a gearcheck with a bit of cd timing, as in you have to cycle cds as long as possible: normal rotation, he does 2-3 consecutive unbalancing and you drop low? Icebound fortitude and heal back; you drop low again? Vampiric blood, ghoul and heal back.
Never use all cds when you drop low, since it will happen a lot of times.
I kited him backwards in circle for 12 mins to kill him, was close in the end, he started 3-4 consecutive unbalancing when he had 400k, but made it.
And once again, people downrate, I post again, see where this goes.
This was a post done BEFORE the other one, this one about soloing the 10-man version at 85, here is it.
Indeed, this was crazy, soloed him at 380 tank item level; I have like 386 dps, and haven't been able with it.
As blood dk you can basically ignore his melee hits of 15k, they get completely healed and absorb stacks up very fast, 30-40-50k blood shield, but then... every few seconds he does an unbalancing strike that hits for 70k and reduces defense skill by 100 for 6 sec, this is the hard thing of him.
I mind controlled an add as well and let him die, then let the other one alive, else razuvious would've done an unbalancing strike immediately.
Kept outbreak on him and kited, now also with 381 and better tank item level with 191k hp unbuffed, I still had to kite backwards, else the damage would've been too high, not sure how dks soloed him months ago without kiting!
Anyway, I always focused on stacking blood shield to absorb as much as I could of the next unbalancing strike, tank gear doesn't help that much at taking less damage, it's more or less the same; what makes tank gear mandatory (unless you are a heroic DS raider) is the hp (more healing + absorb) and the dodge\parry chance; parrying an unbalancing strike means a lot.
I used icebound fortitude as soon as I went under 80% hp, so it was ready again way before the end of the fight.
Same as ghoul, all cds you normally save for when you are almost dead, here should be used as soon as you take some damage, so they'll be ready again later, AS LONG AS you don't overheal.
Like someone else said, at my level of gear some unlucky unbalancing strike spams can still wipe you, but with some more levels it should be possible to one-shot him, at least kiting.
Usually takes me 5 wipes or so before getting enough luck parrying some unbalancing when I'm at low hp.
Also 2-manning him as fury warrior in defensive stance + shield, 392 item level with a holy paladin, in this case I kite him around in his circle, this way is less healing intensive, less dps between unbalancing strikes, while when I solo him on dk I kite him from a wall to the opposite one, as on dk I do all the self healing.
Solo'd first try as a prot pally in ilvl 450 gear
Attention 90 ret Paladins trying to solo him: respec to prot.
I'd MC one guy just so the boss would kill him, go to MC the 2nd one and it'd bug out leaving just the boss. The problem is unbalancing strike hits for a little over 100k on ret, and with seal of sight + avenging wrath glyph + flash of light glyph + sacred shield + spending HP on WoG, it still isn't enough to keep you up. My ret gear is offspec, so avg ilvl of 458. The boss just tears through my health in 100k chunks, and even with LoH, it's just too much.
Respecced to prot, unbalancing strike went down to 72k wearing the exact same gear, minus a 429 MH and 416 shield (ty AH). Put a colossus enchant on the MH, went back in and it was a joke. It took 4 minutes to kill, I used LoH, but it wasn't a hard fight at all.
Save yourself a headache, go prot.
after 5.1 patch it is still impossible to solo as a rogue. If anyone is able to do it please post how.
Soloed as a Wind Walker Monk with a 449 ilvl.
Soloed as Retribution Paladin from 1st try (10-man version). I'll add video of this next week.
Forgot to fraps it down :)
Kill video as promised before
Thanks for downvotes xD
Soloable as a 90 Rogue in LFR gear. Make sure you have Combat Readiness, Leeching Poison, Preparation, and Glyph of Evasion, and Glyph of Cloak of Shadows.
Use Combat Readiness and Cloak of Shadows off the bat and the adds hitting you will get it up to 5 stacks nicely for 50% reduction in damage (it's nice to be combat for blade flurry here). As soon as that runs out, pop your first evasion and then prep, so you have another cloak in case things get hairy. When your first evasion is running out, use your 2nd, and he should die before the end of the second evasion.
Other than that, just burn him and maybe keep recup running or shiv for extra health. Health potions don't hurt either.
Simple tank & spank to 2-man this at 90 with a windwalker monk + blood death knight at 90. Just run in, kill the adds, dps down the boss. He didn't really do anything worth mentioning.
Soloed as a 90 demo lock (ilvl 447) using
and my Voidlord switching threat and healing with
I just solo'ed him today on my fury warrior, item lvl 484. I used my
and it also helps to have that
talent. Popped all cd's, charged in and did a bladestorm to burn down the adds, then just finished off the boss. My warrior companion died when the boss was at about 15% health.
This dude is giving me fits, I soloed the other three quarters of Nax with minimal difficulty as an Fury Warrior ~470 Item Level. I could outheal every other boss with second wind. But somehow Razuvious can knock my heath down 20- 25% in one hit and out DPS my second wind (and I don't really understand how, none of his abilities seem that strong). I've tried popping flasks, potions (both battle and heal), drums, different stances etc. But even boosted to the max, the best I've done is get him down to 30% before he ganks me.
Solo'd him today as a 90 Elemental Shaman.
Threw down Earth Elemental Totem, threw on Flame Shock, used Elemental blast then lusted and used ascension.
Then he went down fairly easily.... I did have to use a Life Spirit once, but no big deal otherwise (admittedly I am in mostly lfr gear though)
Solo'd him as a 90 Feral Druid ilevel 478. This guy was the hardest guy in Naxx for me to solo. Pretty much everyone else was a piece of cake...2nd hardest guy was patchwork. This guy killed me a few times but I finally beat him. For those that are interested, you can not beat this guy in Cat form. First thing to do is use that controller thing to try to kill the other guard as much as you can. If you are lucky the other guard might get to you before Raz does and you can use cat form to take him out quickly, but you really need to get into bear form as soon as Raz is on you. Next you need to pop survival instinces, Might of ursoc, heart of the wild and barkskin because its still kind of a long fight and you will probably get a chance to use barkskin again. As for fighting him, do not use anything that uses rage. Just Mangle, Lacerate, and thrash and use your rage for frenzied regeneration. Dont forget to use faerie fire too when your other buttons are on cooldown. Every point helps. I used 1 master healing potion and Renewal twice during the fight. I also had eaten a chun tien spring roll. That gives me 468k hit points in cat form and 531k in bear (690k with MoU on). I barely had enough hp to survive that fight.
I just wanted to let you fellow druids know that all of Naxx CAN be solo'd by you, so you still have hope. :)
Simply soloable as a discipline priest (10 - man) 5.2
soloed (10man) as enh shammy, used primal earth elemental to tank a bit at first, then as much dps as i could, all the cooldowns, totems, as it was gettin hot i used feral spirit, shamanistic rage, astral shift. He hits hard and after such a hit i had prepared maelstorm weapon for instant healing surge. when he died I still had about 200k hp, but everything on cooldowns. my ilvl is 483.
Solo'ed as an ilevel 493 balance druid. I MCed the trainees one at a time. Once they were dead, I shifted into bear form and used Lacerate, Mangle, Frenzied Regeneration, Barkskin, and Cenarion Ward on cooldown, while keeping Rejuvenation up at all times.
If you are just trying to do a speed xmog run and don't need anything from this guy, save yourself the trouble and just run right past him.
Well, my first tries where a pain in the ass. Then I switched talents from ret to prot, equipped a shield but rest DPS and he then was easy peasy. Heal yourself with selfless healer and Word of Glory, Bubble and Lay on Hands if needed (wasn't in my case) and let him kill his minions first by controlling them one at a time.
Fairly easy to solo as a Retribution paladin on 25man difficulty. Tipps:
- Keep up
Hammer of the Righteous
) at all times
Glyph of Templar's Verdict
Glyph of Divine Protection
He then hit for about 100k with
, which was manageable with a health pool of about 450k. Just don't let yourself drop below 250k in case he crits you and use heals over Exorcism/TV (glyph = damage reduction) over Hammer of the Righteous over anything else.
If you can't keep up with the healing it's most likely due to bad gear, and you should simply go Prot to trivialize the encounter. Ret is definitely faster, though!
Just soloed for the first time ever. I've tried as ret a few times before only to be summarily pounded into the ground in a relatively short order. Just did as holy, and was a relatively easy fight (I'm mainspec heals, so my holy gear is much better than my ret). I healed as soon as holy power was at a max (which occurs pretty regularly as long as you're keeping your holy shocks going as well as crusader strike).
To those holy mains, give it a whirl in your holy gear and you might encounter more success.
I just soloed him today as 488 fire mage. Ignoring the adds I just fired up a pyroblast followed by living bomb and then popped mirror image and time warp. Then I proceded to go to town. When mirror image was up I popped alter time. 15 seconds later he was dead.
This was the boss that I was most worried about (more so than Patchwerk) when I decided to solo naxx10. Turns out I was right to worry. I did it as an Assassination Rogue (500 ilvl). I did it the typical tank n spank DPS race type of thing popped Shadow Blades, Vendetta, Lifeblood (herbalism) and Evasion immediately, and didn't worry about using Shiv to heal as the 5% heal is pretty negligible against Unbalancing Strike.
His ordinary melee hits hard enough, ~35k per hit, but with my damage output and leeching poison I was pretty much able to heal through it.
His Unbalancing Strike on the other hand, hits for 120-130k, and with a healthpool of 412k, this means I can survive 2 (+ his normal damage) before the third will kill me.
To put it simply, it was just pop CDs, do a typical DPS rotation, mutilate, Slice n dice, use Dispatch when Blindside pops and when he's under 35%hp.
In this fight I only managed to reach 5 CPs twice (I think picking the Marked for Death talent will make this fight much easier), used the first on SnD, and the second on Envenom. The fight won't last long enough for Rupture to be useful.
In the end I actually died before Razuvious did (The fight ended just after Evasion ran out) and I was about to curse myself, cause I had him on 1%, but then my Deadly Poison ticked and killed him before he managed to reset, and I was killed by unbalancing strike, from 80k. With my health pool this actually justified my not spending energy on Shiv as the one (maybe 2) extra shivs I would have got in that fight would have only healed me for 20/40k which would not have saved me.
In light of this I will say that either Glyph of CoS or Glyph of Evasion are COMPULSORY for the damage reduction or extra five seconds of dodge, (in the next patch where evasion will give +100% rather than +50%, this might not be as important).
Don't let the previous comments about how hard this guy hits scare you as a frostmage. I just killed him with 511-ilvl gear (all from LFR, Valor points and world bosses).
MC'ed the first add to start the fight, when that one died I MC'ed the second add and kited the boss to the back of his arena. When the second add died I cast
(if you don't have this item use
instead), resummoned my Water Elemental (it got dismissed when I used MC), placed a glyphed Rune of Power for good measure (though you could probably do fine without) and nuked away. Boss died before he even had a chance to hit me (though he and the second add did manage to get in a swing or two when I had to switch MC to the second add).
the above works for 10m, today I also did 25m with an average ilvl of 545. Since on 25m there are no orbs, I dotted up all 4 adds and the boss with
for the pull. The adds go down pretty fast this way, they don't hit that hard anyway, plus while they're still alive Nether Tempest will also damage the boss. I focused on the boss straight after dotting everything up, because he was hitting me between 150k and 200k (that's normal hits, I don't even want to know what happens if he gets a crit ;). Popped the same cooldowns as above, also used glyphed Rune of Power and of course
. Healed myself up with
once and recast glyphed Rune of Power at some point. Killed him on the first attempt this way, though I had very little health to spare. Realized afterwards that I had forgotten to use
, oops ;) Good luck and have fun!
Super easily soloable as a BM Hunter (ilvl 502).
I popped everything I at the start of the fight (Rapid Fire, Bestial Wrath, Stampede, A Murder of Crows, Dire Beast, Quilen Statuette, and Lifeblood).
He went down fairly fast - no need to worry about the aids either, although if you have a lower item level you might want to get the Glyph of Mending to get your pet an extra 'oomf' when healing them as he still hits fairly hard - only you're not taking the brunt of it - your pet is.
No, he does not reset if you run through his little place... not even at the next boss's chamber...
Soloed as an Assassination Rogue on 25-man mode with ilvl 528.
It was a lot easier than I thought it'd be. My only buffs were flask, well fed and kings buff from drums. For glyphs, I used Cloak of Shadows, Evasion and Expose Armor. These allow me to reduce damage taken and instantly apply 3 stacks of armor reduction for shorter ramp-up time. Leeching Poison and Combat Readiness are the only important talents.
Pre-pot, stealth and attack boss. Use
, Vendetta and SB to maximize damage. Pop CR and Cloak to reduce damage (and maybe Smoke Bomb too if you need to). AoE adds down with FoK while targeting boss. As soon as CR ends, use Evasion. Use Preparation and then Evasion again just after the first one ends. The boss should die soon after your second Evasion ends. If he doesn't, your Cloak should be back up by now. Use a health potion along with Shiv/Recuperate to survive if needed.
I killed the boss about 5-7 seconds after my second Evasion ended. This was with around 225k dps in the beginning and 180k in the end, so it might be harder with less dps.
521 Frost DK...
The only thing in this place(25man) that can mess you up is the trash before this boss. Glyph Icy Touch.
Note for soloers - this guy is a huge pain in 25m, I couldn't hack it with my ret pally (either gear or lack of soloing chops, I don't know which). There's an insanely straightforward trick to this now that 10 and 25 share a lockout:
Switch it to 10 man
. Seriously, he's so easy in 10m, then hop out and switch er back to 25 for your tier pieces. I don't think he drops any models that you can't find anywhere else.
The dumb map at the top of this is the Plague Quarter and he isn't in the Plague Quarter, go figure. He is in the military quarter...
