Not too hard to kill. If you can kill Nefarian odds are that you can kill this guy.

Assuming you have 2 warriors in each spawn location:
Make sure your other warrior is clear on which "Skeram" each of you will be tanking. Assign one for the first pop and one for the second pop. If you're alone with 2 Skerams make sure to have cooldowns on the ready. Only on-the-ball healers will recognize your peril. Even 2 on-the-ball healers won't catch your dropping HP's without use of a cooldown.

Hunter specific tips:
- Have an officer put an icon about Skeram before you start
- Assign one hunter to mark the real Skeram after he splits so no one can miss who's the real boss (some people actually do)
- You can use multishot but only if you're sure there isn't any mc'ed person around
- Feign death and place freezing traps at the top of the stairs as often as you can
- After a fake of the real boss teleports you have to wait about 3 seconds to let the tank get aggro, I've seen so many people ignoring this and messing up the whole encounter

Attacks and Abilities
Basic Melee attack for about 900 - 1000 damage.
True Fufillment, which Mind Controls a target, and gives them increased damage, higher resistances, faster movement and instant-cast spells. The target also grows to an immense size, so it is easy to see who is being controlled. The effect cannot be dispelled, but targets can be sheeped, feared, stunned, or put to sleep if a Druid is in an animal form.
Create image. At 75%, 50%, and 25%, creates two images that have identical abilities to Skeram. The images spawn with the same percentage of life as Skeram, but they do not have as many hit points as the true Prophet, making them much easier to kill.
Arcane Explosion (1.5K, large radius). It can be interrupted. He only casts it if there are more than four people in melee range of him.
Earth Shock (2.5K), Skeram will start casting earth shock on the person that is highest on his aggro list ONLY, if this person is not in melee range AND MELEEING HIM. If he is tanked correctly and the current aggroholder stays within melee range, no earth shock will be fired. He does not do this randomly; Earthshock spam is a sign that the tanks are not reacting fast enough.
Blinks to either platform beside him, clearing aggro.
As of patch 1.12, aggro rules changed. As such, Arcane Explosion is not guaranteed for 4+ people, and it could happen for less people present as well.

I think it is important to note for Warlocks that while CurseOfTongues does hit on him, it does no longer affect his casting time at all.
So don't waste the curse on that :)

As of v2.0.1, a Raid-Target Icon can no longer be used to know on a split who is the real one.
Also, the real one will purge all debuffs, further masking his presence. The thing our guild tried (but failed) today was to let only the melee's attack each at first, until you can see who dies noticeably faster - still takes too long though.
Also, once an add is lose from a tank, it now seems to always dump it's aggro on the nearest target if the current target dies (ignoring any aggro list).

Huge wall of text warning:
This is just my comments about my personal opinions over how this could be done and from personal experience of trying it myself.
I can see a hunter soloing him using a monkey as your pet or some other hardcore tanking pet. It would result in a long ass fight however. The goal is to get your pet as much armor, resist, and stamina as possible to ensure survivability.
If you want to be able to solo this you need to know that your pet's damage is not as important as his HP, if he cant survive the damage he will be taking then being there trying to solo Skeram is a waste of your time.
Basically the hunter would have to unequip all of his weapons, which will cause him to not move AT ALL when he is MCed. Spec to BM as to give your pet the highest advantage possible while leaving talents for you basically out of the question as you will more than likely be doing little to no damage in the fight. The only stats that would benefit you that you should be considering are those that boost your stats which your pet would receive a % of. Also Get imp Mend Pet for the mana cost reduction as you WILL be burning your own mana when MCed so you'll need the flexibility in the lowered mana cost.
Also make sure to get the Survivalist talent from the survival tree to give your pet some extra health as pets get a % of the hunter's stats as well as wearing any PVP gear you may have as they more than likely have significantly more stamina than any other gear you may have. I also suggest getting getting Beastial Wrath (if you do get the glyph and the talent to reduce the cooldown just to get rapid succession BWs out), but not Beast Within because it DOES NOT negate Skeram's mind control so it's practically useless to get as you will be MC'd 95% of the fight.
Also MAKE SURE to get the +spell resistance talent for your pet, I also suggest maxing out the armor and stamina talents as well. I have a tenacity pet so I put a point into last stand in case I %^&* up and miss a mend pet cycle or 2 after a MC and also put points into anything that boosted my pet's armor and all that. If you have a tenacity pet, get the Blood of the Rhino talent along with Spirit Bond in Beast Mastery talents, which will give you an extra ~400 hp per tick from mend pet, which for me made my pet chill at max hp the entire fight.
First thing's first... Don't try and do this without clearing the trash in front of Skeram. Do yourself the favor and find a friend to clear it with you if you cant kill all 4 Guardians yourself, believe me it will save you anger and frustration of your pet getting too close to them and agroing when it adjusts to Skeram porting between his platforms.
Start off the fight by of course sending in your pet and put on mend pet within 5 seconds of the fight beginning as that is about when you will get MCed, and re-apply it every time the MC wears off. (I suggest applying Aspect of the Wild in between mind controls to negate the earth shock spell Skeram uses but if you have both of the talents I talked about that give an increase to mend pet, you shouldn't need it; however you can use Aspect of the Beast for a slightly faster phase 1 in the fight) and basically you rinse and repeat this until he gets to 75% hp when he splits and adds 2 of his clones in the mixture.
*interesting note* - if you are lucky enough to have Skeram use mend pet while he mind controls you, I was healing my pet 6k hp each tick (this was with the talents that increased the healing)
First thing you do at this point before anything else... FEIGN DEATH, you will likely agro the clones from the mend pet agro you have produced.
You have two choices at this point, which are: 1) Kill the adds first to reduce damage your pet takes, or 2) ignore the adds and weather the damage they add to the fight if your pet has the HP to withstand it.
You MUST be using Aspect of the Wild at this point as the clones also use the earth shock ability thus adding much more nature damage to the fight, and they also use Skeram's mind control ability so you will likely be getting MCed much more quickly so it is important to get the mend pet off when you are free from MC.
If you are able to get this far without dying, just rinse and repeat and you should get him down fairly easily.
I would have more to say if I had more time to work on my strategy. I was able to solo Skeram to the first split at 75% a couple times but died shortly after due to not feigning death in time to get the adds off of me. I also could not solo the guardians in front of Skeram so I had to do the fight with a VERY VERY large window for error because when Skeram teleports between his platforms my pet would get increasingly closer to the edge where the guardians were, so if I forgot to call back my pet, or couldnt due to rapid succession MCs, I would agro the guardians and wipe.
sorry for the wall of text btw, it's 12:30 at night and I'm not in a mood that cares about spacing this stuff neatly :P
I will post back if I manage to solo Skeram and with pointers on how I did it

i went on him in bear with capped nature res, but it still was too much damage. i managed to kill 1 add and almost finish second. however, i also managed to make him split and not aggro adds by pulling him far away to the wall (you need capped NR because when he teleports he'll nuke you until he reaches you again and it takes a while). the adds just stood there and did nothing. bad thing is that i can't find 100% way to repeat that - it's luck i guess and never repeated 3 times in one fight so he's still alive for me.

Successfully soloed as a Protection paladin, Mixed naxx 10/25 gear combined with roughly 350 Nature resist. and about 1k spellpower to gain more heals. The first time i did it i only had around 250, Altough i found it alot less critical doing it with 350~ .. Just pop divine protection each split, and make sure you have sacred shield up together with seal of light, and judgement of light. The earthshock spams makes it impossible to heal, so you have to rely on the judgements and melee attacks to keep you up.

2 maned twice with my Protection Warrior friend and me Holy priest with
Lightwell.
Warrior has the craftable lvl 70 Nature Resist gear for SSC + 20 NR on a dps cloak +
Lesser Flask of Resistance.
I spec holy for this with
Lightwell
and pop one where skeram is ,that is where the Warrior will be tanking.I go behind the platform near the door that leads to the Temple,if you dont walk to close to the boss you wont pull him by doing so.
Now the tank can pull the boss and heal with Lightwell ,i just spam
Flask of Petrification
untill i need to put a new Lightwell. The boss makes his first images at 75% ,Warrior pulls only one image and nukes it fast because the real skeram is spaming Earth Shocks at him while the other image should be doing nothing if the previous image was pulled correctly.Priest job is to say how long the lightwell will last and at 5-10 seconds remaining(try to time your flask with it)the tank should start moving to the sand (infront of the first steps ) so you can come along and put another lightwell from the top of the platform, you just need to be 45 yards away from skeram and he will not Mind Control you. Then you just go back to the end of the platform and
Flask of Petrification
until you need a new lightwell.Wait for tank to kill images before puting a new lightwell.
Imo its much easier with Flask of Petrification, you or your tank might fail for small details and the trash respawn every 30 min.I use about 5 flasks for one kill i think.
Edit:

I'm going to share some facts/tips for those who want to kill him in small, casual group (under 10 players, no special nature resist gear).
1. Mounted player under mind control
doesn't do anything
besides roaming around. Skeram can't unmount him to cast or attack anything.
2. Druid healer in tree form under mind control can't kill fellow players for the same reason as (1), Skeram is a mere #$%^roach and he can't understand that druid need to be unshifted first to cast anything offensive. But he will occasionally heal himself or his copies with a druid.
3. Tank (player that Skeram attacking at the moment) can't be mind controlled. The main problem here is Skeram doing Blink at the same time he spawns copies of himself. Blink wipes aggro and also both tank's targetting and even his focus, if he had him in focus.
So the main idea with which you will be able to kill him is next:
Have your group
mounted during all fight
except tank and healer (resto druid). Your group will be MC dummies that lessen the chances for a healer to be mind controlled.
Healer's job will be to HoT tank and everyone in need at every occasion he's in control of his character.
Tank's job will be to actually kill the boss (copies first), watching for Blink's aggro wipes and trying not to AoE fellow players who are under mind control. Consider positioning tank on the boss platform and all other players off the platform, in 45 yards range. That way after Blink Skeram should go for tank as closest player.
You'll need at least 4 men to kill him that way, but the more dummies you have the better chances you've got.

Successfully solod as a feral druid using full bear spec self-buffed (MotW +
Lesser Flask of Resistance
) with 32k health, 36.8% dodge, and 303 nature resist. Glyphs - Maul, SI, FR (Berserk would have been better).
When adds spawn use SI, FR, Berserk and spam Mangle/Maul. When FR ends use Barkskin and finish adds. When adds are dead stay in melee range and heal up (boss damage is minimal, but watch out for teleports and earth shocks). Shift back to bear and just auto swing to keep SD up and proc iLotP. After 3 minutes cooldowns will reset and repeat next phase.

just got a question to the bear tank that soloed this guy, went today as a warrior hybrid tank(bloodthirst spec + glyph for massive healing), and anyways when I got to 75% and first split all 3 of the skeram´s kept earthshock spamming me even when in melee range, did you get this at all or know if blizz have "fixed" it like this so that he cant be soloed or something?

I solo him and Battleguard Sartura every week as a ret paladin. I made the lvl 70 NR set and some NR greens from the AH. With buffs/pots am NR capped at 415.

Solo'd him as a level 80 Blood DK in AH +Nature resist greens, and Ulduar gear.
Most greens were a bunch of mail gear from BC, and a few NR greens. All in all I had about 352(402 with pot) nature resistance in my gear, before poting. (Mark, Lesser Flask of Resist, and gear. Magic Resistance Potion is very handy for this, added 50 nature resistance for 3 minutes.) Had pretty much full raid buffs from entering an AV and leaving. (Try and get a health stone from a warlock too, if you can!)
Strat:
Burn Skeram down as usual, and self heal with Death Strike.
At 75%, he'll split into his images. Try to tab through the images of skeram and place Mark of Blood on the REAL skeram (this is easily determinable, he'll have the most HP of the 3) This will provide very sufficient healing, be sure to use VB every time he splits. Rune Tap, IBF, and AMS as needed. Should you need to ghoul summon and Death Pact, do so VERY quickly. He can still MC you while your ghoul is out, and all 3 of them can cast it. So it's risky to try without reseting him.
Once the two images are down, heal up with DS, and then begin to AUTO ATTACK. while healing with Rune of the Fallen Crusader and Rune tap. You
will
need your CDs back up for the images at 50%. Remove your weapon and heal with Rune Tap only, if needed (this isn't advised, you'll still need death strike/ROTFC most likely).
When he splits at 50% and 25% use the same strat as the first split. Though I'd advise saving your potion (helpful but not needed) for the last split.
Was pretty fun, and had an add aggro on me (trash respawns) during the fight, and it dropped a Red Crystal. Pretty happy day for me. :)

Summary
If you really want to kill this guy and are sure no other 2-3 will help you...use a Paladin/Druid/DK if you can. This will require some good gear and propper usage of CDs, though. From what i know Paladins have the easiest time with this Boss.
If you dont have one of those 3 but either a warrior or hunter (like me) you can still hope to do it, but dont expect an easy time.
to Warriors:
Congratulations on playing the one of four tanks that is worst in both dps and self healing! For warriors this is really, really heavy on gear and buffs...to have any chance you will need the edge of current gear and most likely buffs, too. I would advice a 37/31/3 build so you can spam revenge and keep BT on CD. This will just deal much, much more DPS than any x/31/x build. You will need a good amount of NR, of course, this is why you will need exceptional items on other slots. I dont consider it doable in anything below full lvl226 gear.
to Hunters:
Good news is, you will not need full T8 to solo this...bad news is, it will take a lot of practice and will generally be more prone to bad luck compared to tanks since you can only do so much to control your pet.
Pet damage against bosses will go up quite a lot in 3.2 due to the expertise change...this is a straight 13% more damage for this fight without even considering other BM buffs. Better Gear and, most important, buffs on your pet will help you a lot. If you can get MotW, PW:Fort or better yet: BoK...go for it.
Details for Hunters, Warning: Another wall of text incoming
@OP: Thank you so much for your guide on how to solo that guy as a hunter. Your tipps of removing weapons to counter MC were just priceless and key for me to defeat that boss as a hunter just with my pet. I had to alter several parts of your tactic, though.
First, taking a tenacy pet optimized for pure HP/armor and even wearing HP gear yourself will utterly destroy pet-dps...at 200 dps it will take more than 40 minutes to let your pet down the boss and 6 images. That means you will have to deal with at least the respawning obisidan add no matter where you stand.
I took a look at the ferocity pet tree and decided they are much better suited for this task:
- self-healing just like tenacy
- reduces all damage taken by 10% with cover
- deal around 2 times the dps of tenacy
- have a 100% channeled self-heal that can be triggered while feigning death without breaking it and does not break from damage with Lick Wounds! This means your pet can heal itsself to full while you lie safe and sound and it is being beat on by 3 prophets.
Edit: Reduced Spell damage is completely wasted on pets, since neither the prophet nor his copies will use earthshock against it; this is the core reason a pet has any chance of surviving a split. Dont take those talents and dont bring any NR on gear or buffs.
Second, you should not kill the 4 guys guarding the front of the prophet. It will just take away from your combat-time and no matter what pet/gear you use, unless wearing full Tier10 or something you will need every minute.
1. Positioning
You will want to position your pet and put it on stay there before beginning combat. That way you can always tell your pet to retreat to some spot (using defensive->passiv switching).
Just using follow/attack for this will not work well, because even with no weapons equipped you will attack and most likely kill your pet if it stands next to you.
Additionally, calling it back to that spot from time to time makes sure it will never "run crazy" and pull the 4 adds in front of the prophet. This usually happens when the prophet ports to the same side multiple times so keeping your pet away from those spots will ensure no adds.
You should position yourself somewhere close to your pet with max LoS to the battlefield.
I chose to place my pet directly in front of him (using a cat that was very easy, but it can be done with any pet using eyes of the beast and setting it to stay before you get MCed out of it) and myself on the side of the stairs up to the 2 teleport-spots.
2. Single-Boss-Phases
Depending on your gear/buffs this will be quite boring. When i had me and my pet buffed with PW:Fortitude the self-healing almost offset his damage. The important thing to do in these phases is prepare for splits. You must be feigned upon a split. If you are MCed upon the split it will break - at this point death is very likely, so just avoid it.
Prepare yourself and break FD to heal your pet up at around 380k, 260k and 150k HP. You should really break it early in case you resist once. If you resist twice it is usually over for good. You cannot stop your pet from attacking while MCed - stopping it in between enables the Boss to blow you up with earthshocks; so there is no way to reduce the "pace" of the fight (aotv works to a limited degree, but starting the split with viper hurts).
Goal:
Have your pet >90% HP and be feigned for at least another 2 minutes when the split comes close (352k, 235k, 122k). Set it on passive.
3. Splits
With your Pet set to passive it will disengage upon split, making it more likely copies will not aggro. You must kill the copies ASAP. Select one of the copies and tell your pet to attack. With practice and a bit of luck you might get only one copy to aggro. Use Lick Wounds when your pet is low; you must delay breaking FD as long as possible as it is very dangerous with 2 copies in fight.
When your pet dropps below 50% again set it to defensive stand up and heal. At this point you must just hope to get MCed quickly, if this does not happen you are dead. This is simply the same problem the tank-classes soloing this can run into: If the copies port around too much on split and your CDs fade you are done. Knowing what can go wrong will help, however.
Assuming you get MCed quickly and your pet is being healed, keep healing between MC and FD again when possible.
Repeat this until only the Boss is left and prepare for the next split.
Note: I actually had to kill the obsidian add during the fight which got really, really close to failure. The problem is the mana drain and 170k HP will take long to kill. But with 2 Lick Wounds CDs and a single Mend Pet it worked out and i could continue on the Boss after rejuvenating with aotv for a minute or two.
Hope this helps.
Edit:
As of Patch 3.3.2 the hunter tactic described here does no longer work. Hunters do no longer stand immobile if controlled without any weapon euqipped. Hunters can adapt the LOS 2man tactic described by a paladin in one of the posts below.
I found, however, that using T9 and above gear doing it as a warrior is much easier. 0/31/40 worked better for me than 37/31/3. the latter does deal much higher single-target-dps, however spamming cleave is a better source of damage during the split and last stand helps a lot.

Me (Paladin Tank) and my friend (Enhancement shaman) went to the temple to have a bit of fun. we eventually managed to get the boss down, and here's how:
True fullfillment is what's going to wipe you as a duo, so you want to take advantage of it not being able to hit things not in LoS, and it not being able to hit the target atop his threatlist
Now, after you have cleared the trash, you go to
the right along the side of the altar, don't go up the stairs, but around the corner of the stone block
have your friendly healer (My friend) stand glued to the wall, and you (me) just in line of sight of your friend at the corner, this is where you will be tanking him, but beware that only you are in line of sight of your friend, and that Skeram, or any of his applications, are not.
After you pull, you back up towards your spot, slowly, trying not to get too much hurt on you from earthshocks.
Then you basicly stand there slowly taking his health away, anytime he blinks (and reset threatlists) you either:
A: (only for paladins): Pop Righteous Defense on your friend, immediately getting you atop threat again. (remember, if he is heading for your friend, you will be in line of sight, and get True Fulfillment.)
B: Move a bit to right so that you can hide behind the corner, out of Line of sight, once he nears you, you quickly step out and taunt him before he true fullfillments you.
it is also adviced to keep some sort of DoT up on him, since DoT's will preserve through the teleport, and thus get you atop the threatlist again before Skeram has moved more than ten yards. - as a paladin, Judgment of light helped a ton getting my health back without depleting my friend's mana pool too severly (he needs the mana for the splits)
Each time he splits is a little diffrent, you want to put some sort of DoT up on all three applications of him just before he teleports so that you have aggro on all three from the start, and that they head for you and not your healing friend. otherwise, pray you're a paladin and that your Righteous Defense isn't on cooldown.
If all goes well, you now have three applications of the big baddie going down towards you, spamming 2K earthshocks, this is why your brought a healer along. but you have to be on top of the three's individual threatlists before any healing is started, or you will get true fulfilled and get your mate a repair bill (you won't get one, the prophet is gracious enough not to kill his minion)
Through the entire time your healing friend must not use any Healing over time effects, since any healing would get him atop the threatlist right after a teleport, he should also be careful not to heal directly right after a teleport.
We did it with me clad in Ulduar hardmode/TotC regalia, while my enchancement friend was keeping me up in Naxxramas enhancement gear in an enhancement spec. So I'd wager a pure tank/healer combo could do it with less gear
edit: position marked for clarification

Surprised it's not mentioned on here: He was nerfed so that the adds aggro as soon as he splits. You can no longer kill them one at a time. As such I was unable to take the damage of all 3 as Retribution. Died several times trying, then went to Prot and downed him 2nd try. Used 179 NR:
Wildguard Helm
Wildguard Breastplate
Revenant Legguards of Nature Protection
(+104 Stamina, +69 Nature Resistance)
A few tips as Prot:
SoL/JoL. Your goal is to be @ 100% hp/mana when he splits, and race to kill one add (using a Divine Shield + heal up) before you die. As long as you can be 1v2 you will survive from that point on without cooldowns. I suggest DPSing rather slowly before splits to make sure your Divine Shield is up. Save your LoH until you really need it. Kill one add and let Ardent Defender heal proc, then Divine Shield (cancel Divine Plea!) and heal up, restart Divine Plea and finish off the add. You should be able to survive long enough to down 2nd add and get back onto the boss.
One of the biggest helpers to surviving the splits for me was positioning. You want to make sure the 3 are close enough that Hammer of the Righteous hits them all and procs SoL. I fought him right where he spawns facing the entrance. This made it so every time one of them teleported/adds split they'd have to walk down the steps and straight towards me, bunching them all up.
Once you get this down he's no harder than the difficult MC solos like Gehennas/Golemagg.

Probably the easier boss of AQ40. If you can't do him, you probably don't have much of a chance against the others.
However, properly geared, he's relatively easy. Flask of lesser resistance (50 resist), and another 100-150 resist from gear, and earth shocks become considerably less threatening. As a bear tank I tried this with dps gear and 70 resist from MotW - the Earth Shocks blew me up. The second attempt, wearing only 2 level 75+ nature resist greens and a potion, I was able to solo with considerably greater ease.

Got some Nature Resist greens off the AH, up to about 250 in all, then bought a Flask of Lesser Resistance. Since I had tank gear, with all of the greens I still had ~26k HP. I used all of my CDs for for the last 2 splits, but I'd highly advise having all of them up at all times. When the split first happens, pop Vamp Blood, get diseases on a weak one, and go nuts with Death Strike, Rune Tap, Anti Magic Shell, Icebound Fortitude, etc.
Using Mark of Blood helps too. Some say try to target the real one and use it, but any work.
I highly advise not risking Death Pact, chances are you'll get MC'd. This is also why you can't take Bloodworms for the added healing.
Enjoy your solo, this opens up the place to an actual raid, 5-10 people can handle most of the other bosses.

Either I'm doing something wrong or this boss is currently bugged. I've tried to solo him a few times but when it comes to the split, I pop AMS to deal with the initial earth shocks, but he and his clones won't stop casting it even after getting into melee range.

Finally soloed this on my druid in resto spec.
Gear: I had three pieces of NR gear, MotW, and Lesser Flask of Resistance for about 336 Nature Resistance, so Earth Shocks were hitting me for 600 - 700. The rest was 251 / 264 raid gear. I also used Spark of Hope to decrease the mana used on my spells.
Trash: You can skip all of the trash except for the Obsidian Eradicator which circles stairs around The Prophet. Simple prowl past all the other trash, up one side of the stairs, and pull Eradicator. After you kill it, you will have 30 minutes to kill the boss before the trash spawns again.
Positioning: I pulled the boss up to one of the platforms he teleports to, and dpsed him there. You shouldn't need to move at all, even during the splits.
Phase one is easy. Place a HoT on yourself, and begin dpsing using Moonfire and Wrath. Use Innervate early so its cooldown is done by the time phase two starts.
At about 76%, cast Regrowth, since you will not be able to cast anything but instant spells once he splits. At the split, cast all HoTs on yourself, and keep Lifebloom, Rejuv, and Wildgrowth up at all times, letting Lifebloom expire and using Swiftmend when needed. Setting Auto Self Cast on helps quite a bit. While the 2 clones are up, it's most important to keep yourself alive. Target one of the clones and use Moonfire when you have a chance. I often would cast Moonfire and shift to tree form while the DoT ticked for the added armor and healing. After one clone is down, the other two are easy to heal through, and you can burn the second clone down much quicker.
After that, simply rinse and repeat. The first time I killed him, it took me about 29 minutes since I was being cautious during the splits.

As a Warrior I really struggled to solo this. I had to use the 'healing-spec' 0/31/40 and a heavy set of nature resistance. For every transition to 75%/50%/25% I waited for my cooldowns to be ready. While I took alot less damage with the resistance set on I also did alot less damage, which made the clones stay up longer.

What's with this guy bugging out and resetting constantly? We've tried to 4-man it and besides the MC's hurting bad, he will seemingly randomly reset to full health. It's getting frustrating to say the least.
Also , he does NOT MC the closest people, constantly the healers would get MC'ed.

Simple to solo as a feral druid in mostly iLevel 264 gear.
Tanked him where he starts and at the first split blew my SI, barkskin tied with corroded skeleton key, and FR - then berzerk mangle spammed down the adds. As soon as adds were down swapped to white damage only and waited on my cooldowns - then dps down to next split and repeat.
I didn't need to shift out to heal up, but if you need to you just have to make sure you're standing as close to Skeram as possible so there won't be any earthshocks (right on top of him is nice) and you can heal up at your leisure.
Just be careful not to damage him down to a split before you have your cooldowns or things will go badly - if it's getting so close that white damage will beat your cooldowns shift into druid form and get some staff practice in till you're good to go.

Just soloed this boss on my Enhancement Shaman last night. Definitely a hard fight for an Enh Shaman, but it's still doable (with many attempts put in).
I was in my PvP spec with my Glyph of Stoneclaw Totem so I had the shield from it, and I saved my Shamanistic Rage cooldown for every split (75%, 50%, 25%). You can't use the Elemental Totems or your wolves due to the mind control, but everything else in terms of totems is fair game. I alternated between Strength of Earth and Stoneclaw Totem for the phase changes, and I kept down Magma Totem, Healing Stream (doesn't matter really), and Nature Resistance totem. The Nature Resistance Totem cut the nature damage from Earth Shock by a good amount, around 1300 per shock (it still hit hard enough to kill me plenty of times, that's for sure). When the splits hit, I made sure to have Shamanistic Rage ready (or else I just didn't DPS between splits if on CD) along with Stoneclaw Totem. The key for the split is making sure you DPS those adds down ASAP (with Magma Totem, Fire Nova, Stormstrike, w/e), or else you run the risk of being overwhelmed by Earth Shock. This is the one exception where DPS = Survivability. I bloodlusted at the first split IIRC, and I made sure I was healed to 100% before chipping him down to the split phases. I threw MW5 Healing Waves on myself as necessary, and I think I used my MW5 procs during every split for Healing Wave, but I can't confirm this.
It took me over 400g in repair bills to finally get this boss down (I even tried 2/3-manning it, which didn't turn out so hot due to mind controls), but with good timing and persistence, it is definitely possible for an enhancement shaman to down him (the one attempt I downed him, the boss reset one or two times due to me accidentally hitting my elemental totems instead of my magma/str. of earth totems and I continued the fight from the beginning).

As something to mention for all the people who aren't intending to solo Skeram, I thought I'd detail this strategy: I went into AQ40 for rep, rather than solo cred, so I came with a resto shammy.
We tried the LOS trick, where you tank him at the corner of his altar on the ground, having him come down the stairs after each port and having your healer around the corner, with you right at it. Not only do you take more damage from shocks as they come to you, but this will cause him to bug out from time to time.
Here's a better location, a... more stable... location: On his altar, up the second stairs from his own landing, beside a sphynx statue.
IE:
* North Teleport Spot
|
* Stairs
|
Y Skeram's Initial Position
|
* Stairs
|
* South Teleport Spot
|
X You are Here
You stand, just hanging slightly over the edge to the RIGHT of your Sphynx statue (This should work on either side). Skeram may walk around the outside of the statue rather than the inside after a teleport - he'll look like he could be in LOS of the healer, but if the healer hugs the platform as much as possible to be still in LOS of you, Skeram won't be able to see your healer.
What we found was this: When Skeram teleports, or his clones, they'll aggro to the closest person for just a moment. A DOT will bring them back onto the tank... BUT... if they've had a chance to aggro, they'll bug out and vanish, or bum rush the healer, or Skeram will mind control whoever's in LOS (Which should only be the tank).
Fighting them like this, you are ALWAYS between Skeram, his clones, and your healer. They will never have a chance to be closer to the healer and so aggro onto him after a teleport, and so this resolves the bugging issues we found with the ground/corner LOS strategy. It's a more stable position to LOS from.,
And don't worry - at 80, Skeram's aggro radius is so small you don't need to be stealthed to get past him to get in position by the Sphynx. Just ride past and skirt the edges of the stairs, and you'll be fine.

As a feral druid, I initially had a lot of trouble solo'ing Skeram. However, I now have it down to a science. There were a few tricks I found. First, DO NOT USE BESERK UNTIL THE LAST WAVE OF ADDS. Otherwise, by the time the adds are dead, skerem himself is about 1 hit away from summoning the next wave of adds.
The other trick for me was to simply get enough nature resist without gimping my gear. Also, stack stamina! And of course you have to focus on killing the adds as quickly as you can. It can be confusing to know which is skeram and which are the adds, but you get the hang of it, and that is half the battle. I just tank Skeram right behind where he is initially standing, so that when the adds spawn they both get to me quickly and at the same time so I can kill them fast.
At about 275 nature resist, the fight is pretty trivial if you focus on killing the adds when they spawn. I do not bother with any cool-downs, not even barkskin, until the last wave of adds at 25% (and that is just b/c I figure I might as well use them then, but you don't need to use them). In between waves, it's easy to just heal yourself up with some resto spells. The fight is fast and easy! One thing I noticed is that as long as I killed the first add fast, the damage coming in from the second wasn't really that bad with high nature resist. So just take the first one out fast and you should be good (I always made sure my rage was at 100% and mangle was off of cooldown).
The way to get your nature resist up without gimping yourself is:
1. Get both rings of binding from onyxia 10 and 25, they give tons of stam and some nature resist.
2. Get the nature resist helm enchant from the knights of ebon blade quarter master. I did not want to put that enchant on my main tanking helm. Fortunately, there is a very easily available ilevel 232 helm from forge of souls.
3. Flask of lesser nature resistance (mats are cheap).
4. Nature resistance fur lining is very very helpful. I put it on my old pair of relentless pvp bracers and that made a massive difference.
Then just stack all the stamina you can, and make sure to have a good weapon. I have a decent ilevel 245 polearm, but ilevel 232 ones should be sufficient and there is at least one available through heroics. By the end of each wave my health is usually down to about 40%, then it's easy to heal myself back up before dps'ing skeram down to the next phase.

Soloed today as a 80 level BM hunter with extreme soloing build, using a ferocity pet (tiger). Had 0 nature resistance.
The fight itself is really easy apart from the 3 times when he spawns adds.
Main thing to remember during entire fight as a hunter is to never come to him, otherwise you will get mind controlled. In order to still be able to shoot, hunter needs to have 3/3 Hawk Eye talent there. I also used tier5(2) in order to get pet healed from the damage that i do (however, in this fight it is not as much useful as it usually is), and tier1(3) for 50% increased Mend Pet range (also needed to be able to heal pet without risking to get mind controlled), and equipped 2 brewfest stamina trinkets to get pet's health pool bigger and thus make his self healing better.
Basically I just stood max range, did Mend Pet on cooldown and dpsed the boss. The line of sight can cause some issues with healing the pet. If the pet is out of line of sight, it has to be called back a bit, so that Mend Pet can be cast (since the pet looses his target, the boss will start doing earth shocks, so gotta be fast with this).
It is vitally important to have pet in the line of sight at the moment when the boss reaches 75%, 50% or 25% and splits, and Feign Death must be off cooldown by that time. When it hapens, you have to immediately throw a Mend Pet, cast Aspect of the Beast, then use Bestial Wrath and Call of the Wild, and send your pet on one of the mobs (preferably on a "false" one). As soon as you catch first Earth Shock, you need to pop Detterence, and when it's duration ends, throw one more Mend Pet and then Feign Death. From that moment, your pet will have to kill two adds before they kill it. Make sure that the pet is attacking a "false" add (you can see that if his hp is dropping fast enough). The pet should most probably remain at 100% health while Mend Pet is ticking. After it runs out, use the pet's abilities to help the pet live longer. First of all, that means using Cower on cooldown. My cat was specced into Bloodthirsty and Lick Your Wounds, and that gave him enough time to kill 1 add and almost kill another one. This lasts about 1,5 minute and thus your Detterence cooldown should be ready by the time the pet will need your help. When the second add is under 20% health, do a Kill Shot to him and if possible, some other shots too (remember to stay far enough). After that pop Detterence, use Mend Pet and Bestial Wrath and the second add will die before Detterence runs out. Then the pet will take the main boss again and you can use the time to heal it and yourself to 100% before the next adds appear.
He will also ocasionally still cast Earth Shocks on the hunter after his blinks, while the pet is too far - if the hunter is not in FD by that time. This does not cause any major problems, you can banadge yourself or drink a health pot if it goes bad, otherwise your Spirit Bond should heal you up. (by the way, I forgot to take bandages on the time when I killed him, found it out when the boss was allready near to 75%).
It is possible to do this in a slightly different way - using a tenacity pet (turtle). In this case your pet will be more tough, but it will deal way less damage and the split phase will prolong. The turtle can use Cower and Shell Shield to decrease damage taken. Taking Last Stand can also help.
When I tried it with a turtle, I managed to get past 75% - so tenacity pet does actually fit the job. However, the fight becomes more slow, and if you use Last Stand, you will probably want to wait for it's cooldown to pass before hitting the next split phase. There is a high risk to get trash mobs respawning right during the encounter (just what hapened with me at that time).
One last advice - if you go with that tactic, don't think of Aspect of the Wild. The pet never gets Earth Shocked, and if you don't fail, you shouldn't be hit a lot by it yourself aswell (if you fail, Aspect of the Wild will not help).
I would be very glad if someone would try to repeat this strategy and report the result here. Sincerely yours, Scarnik, EU-Bloodfeather.

Did it 2 man a few weeks ago. took like 6 tries.
Setup: prot warrior (me) + resto druid.
Basicly, the resto druid stays out of LoS the whole time, but must still be able to heal you.
He does not heal or create any aggro at all.
During clones, you pop all your cooldowns and burn the clones. Healers does not do anything.
When clones are down, healer heals to full, and you dps slowly untill cd's are ready again.
During blink, watch the target of skeram. If he targets you, just fight on. If he targets the healer, go behind the stair/wall, wait till he's close and taunt asap.
This is how we did it, was very intense but also a lot of fun. We did the rest of AQ40 too, except for emperors and C'thun.
We didnt use any special buffs/flasks/gear.

Soloed as standard PVE specced bear with 5370 GS.
After reading the above, I used a PVP bracer with the Nature Res fur lining, a lesser flask of resistance and improved Mark of the Wild. Think I ended up with 195 NR.
After berserk killing the first two splits, I accidentally triggered the last one before SI/FR/Berkserk was off cooldown (despite hitting him unarmed in caster form at that point!)
Quickly equipped mace & went bear, and swipe/mauled them all to death, not having cooldowns on the last split wasn't an issue.
I thought solo-ing this guy would lead to a load of Brood rep, but he gives none, and the following trash gives far less than the packs prior to Skeram - so my advice for Brood rep - just keep resetting before Skeram for max rep/hour. Of course, it's a nice challenge to down Skeram, but I won't be bothering again.

Trio'd this as a Ret paladin, Fury warrior and Balance druid.
The amazing part about this is the split resets MC, so you can indeed have an MC go off and still do it, but even in the whole fight we only had 1 go off in the 25-0 burn.
If you attempt to try this, have your range stand at the top of the ramps, just above the prophet so if you do get an MC, the MC may take time walking up to your ranged.
It is pretty much a burn fight, as you need to essentially get a phase split every couple seconds (8~ max?). It took a few attempt due to dumb moves we pulled, but it wasn't that hard.
http://i.imgur.com/qXwbc.jpg
. Our druid died to a dumb move, but the boss died anyways.

The most the game mechanics will let damage be resisted is 75% regardless of your toon's level. As this is a lvl 63 Boss, the maximum reistance you want is 315, anything past that will have no further reduction in damage.

Did it with my DK. very easy.
Crafted 3 plate nat res pieces from Cenarion vendor in zangarmarsh (req. exalted)
Also crafted the JC nat res ring from the same vendor.
Fedryen Swiftspear <Cenarion Expedition Quartermaster>
Rest was tank gear mostly from normal toc10/25
Used Drums for gift of the wild, flask for 50 res all and priest scroll for sta.
Talented RuneTap and Anti Magic Zone and both death runes talents from B/U tree
Never went below 40% health. Just spammed DS and popped CDs when nessecary.

Solo'd this on my DK;
blood tank spec
, tank gear + DPS weapon with Rune of Fallen Crusader.
I almost made some Lv70 NR gear, but I got him down with:
Drums of the Wild
Drums of Forgotten Kings
Lesser Flask of Resistance
104 Nature Resist, 51k HP
Pretty much what everyone else said above, burn the adds down when he splits, don't Army or summon pets (or else you're just asking for a MC). Make sure VB and AMS are up for the each split. I don't have Mark of Blood in my spec but it would definitely help.
On another note, he only melees for about ~500 on plate, so with full NR gear I would assume any clothie can solo this. Will try it on my shadow priest next time.

Successfully soloed as a
priest
today. I have never heard of a priest soloing this guy before but I bet it has happened since 4.0.1 was released. My gear consists of ilevel 232-251-264's in a mix, way below the best available gear.
For priests attempting to solo this boss, the following needs to be
considered
: Most NR gear is either from lvl 60 or 70. The more NR you stack the more HP, Mana, Spellpower and Armor you lose. For plate or mail users his melee is a non-issue, for priests however he will hit for 1.5-2k if you're in bad gear, and so will his clones. Count earth shocks on top of that and you're in for a bumpy ride.
There is probably some way to tank him far from the platforms so that they have to travel a great distance, reducing their chances of meleeing you, I however decided to tank him on the stairs just infront of where he usually stands.
I ended up killing him with a holy spec, with 120 NR from gear and 50 from a resistance flask, so 170 NR total. Outside of the splits I just wack him with my staff, dotting him and smiting a bit, making sure to keep my mana at 100% and all cooldowns ready for splits. At 76% I'd activate chakra and smite, giving me 15% increased damage. I camped my lightwell, put up renew, shield when ready and spammed holy nova once Skeram and both clones were on me. I made sure to double dot and to chastice one of the clones, as getting one down makes your life so much easier with killing the other. It's a race against time here, make sure to get one clone down as fast as possible else you'll run OOM.
Take your time to get back to 100% mana(using lightwell) and to have all cooldowns ready before the next split. Remember that the clones get more HP each split, so the 3rd and final split is much harder than the first split.
Screenshot at:
http://img594.imageshack.us/f/wowscrnshot102310204319.jpg/
Important note:
Using Shadowfiend will Almost Certainly cause him to Mindcontrol you, resulting in him resetting. I did not use shadowfiend at all during my kill. However it might be possible if you make sure to keep aggro AND be closer than your shadowfiend is to skeram. Note that this is nearly impossible as he can teleport in 3 directions at any given time, and that this resets his aggro.

Soloed as a Hunter patch 4.0.1
Used a spirit beast and a basic beastmaster spec, Beast was spec'ed for maximum health and resistance. It's important the pet has 2 points serpents swiftness and 2 points Bloodthirsty to gain health from it's attacks.
My gear is T10 (Item lvl 251) and other IL 251 gear.
The encounter was 100% solo'ed by my pet, so dodn't get loot from the kill, but gave me access to the rest of the instance.
I positioned myself to the left of the stairs all cramped up near the wall in a corner made by the stir leading up to Skeram and the stair leading futher up to the left. This way Skeram and his clones didn't have LoS to me at any point during the encounter, and I could avoid the mindcontrol.
Use aspect of the wild. Send in pet and use Kill Comman when it's off cd. Once Skeram is at 76% use Feign Death and just stay down. make sure you pet is attacking the easy clones, so you get rid of them fast.
If FD duration is running out, get up once the clones are gone and use it again before the next split. Do
NOT
get up while clones are present, since they often start spamming the earthshock, and the LoS can't prevent this,
During the fight the spiritbeast can heal itself with spirit mend. Do not hesitate to do this manually sometimes, since the beast itself don't always autocast it before it's too late. Especialy during the split.
Also make sure to cast the spirit mend right at the start of a split, so the HoT is ticking, and the cd is ready again when the beast has taken some damage.
When the split happens the beast will often loose it's target and start running back to you. Quickly set it to attack one of the 3 Skeram, which one at first doesn't matter, just be quick, so the clones and the real Skeram doesn't follow your beast back to your hiding spot, getting you within LoS.
One last note on the fight. I didn't get loot, since my pet did 100% of the damage. It might be possible to start the fight with casting MD on the pet, shoot Skeram for a few seconds and put up a sting. And still make it to the hideout before the first mindcontrol. This way getting loot from the fight. I'll try it next reset.

Hello,
I am a warrior and in find him very difficult to solo.
I am using this
Bloodthirst build
So far i can bring him at the second split, but i die most of the time.
the best attempt were with some Nature resist gear ( wild guard from 70 and some green Plate NR 80, potion 50 Resistance ) , with some dps stuff. And all the time with a shield. The trouble is that in between split, i only do white domage and Bt evry cooldown to regain life, but with dps gear it dont let me enough time to reload shield wall and enraged regeneration.
the trials with tanking gear and Some NR were bad, because ididn't have enough dps to kill the clones.
Is there somes warriors who were sucessful at beating him since 4.0.1patch ?
As i write this, it gives me the idea to switch to a grey weapon in between the splits in order tu regain life and let the cooldown get up !

Solo'd easily as an 80 shockadin in holy pvp gear. When it's just the boss, spamming exorcism and holy shock does considerable damage. When he clones himself, keep heals on yourself with holy shock / word of glory spam and let Eye for an Eye do most of the work. It took a little while, but I never really got close to dying.

Just soloed this as a ret paladin in full PVE gear. My gear is reasonably good, with a mix of 264s and 277s (nothing from RS) as well as
Shadowmourne
, but it should be doable in at least 251s, especially if you mix in some nature resistance gear.
I used
Devotion Aura
(since the others are useless for this fight),
Seal of Insight
and
Blessing of Kings
(for the small amount of nature resist) with no consumables.
Wall of text follows:
Obviously, the entire fight comes down to handling the splits, which occur every 25% health Skeram loses (75%, 50% and 25%, with the clones gaining more health the less Skeram has). Keep in mind that the two mobs you aren't actively attacking will spam Earth Shock, so it's a race to kill the two clones as fast as possible. What I did was make sure I had three charges of Holy Power for the first split, popped
Zealotry
and
Avenging Wrath
and quickly took out a clone (they have about 45k HP a piece at this point), using the Holy Power for
Divine Storm
rather than
Templar's Verdict
until the first clone dies, after which TV should be used on the remaining one. If you have to,
Divine Shield
should not be ignored and
Word of Glory
is safe to use after one add is dead as a good
Hammer of Wrath
crit should take about half their health.
I was under 30% health when the second clone died, but at that point the danger had passed so I healed up with
Flash of Light
and took off my weapon to allow my cooldowns to come up. A few times I tried this before I used Divine Shield for the first split, so I had to wait the full five minutes; punching him for that long will initiate the next split, but as long as you have him targeted and auto attack is on he won't cast Earth Shock, so I was able to turn my back to him and keep myself healed up with the occasional
Holy Light
. Feel free to
judge
if you need mana, or swap in a weak weapon to build up charges of Holy Power for the next split phase.
The second split I treated just like the first, popping AV and Zealotry; the adds have about 90k HP each. After the first add died I used one of my Holy Power charges for Word of Glory rather than TV or DS; the rest went to TV. I ended the second split with about 10% HP, but again the danger is over once the clones are dead. Again I punched him until my cooldowns came up and used a weak weapon to make sure I had three charges of Holy Power for the final split.
The third split the adds have about 155k HP (I think). Same as the first two, I popped AV and Zealotry, this time once I got low (under 10%) I had to bubble and started using my Holy Power charges for Word of Glory while bubbled (didn't want to cast a heal as stopping DPS at any point is suicide). The first clone died shortly after I bubbled, the second one didn't go down until a few seconds after my bubble wore off. I think I was at about 25% HP at that point, but the battle is essentially over once that second add dies.
Hope this helps someone. Good luck!

Solo'd the Prophet as a Holy Pally last night (spec tweaked for Shock and Eye for an Eye), with zero nature resist gear. Was running Seal of Insight and Blessing of Might.
Current gear is all PVP, with a mix of Relentless and Wrathful (nothing that can't be farmed at this juncture in the game).
Armory
1. Engage him where he stands on the platform. DPS rotation when he's NOT split: judge, HS, Exo, HW. WoG as needed for heals. Toss up Divine Plea prior to the splits if you're having some mana issues.
2. When he splits, remain where you stand on the center platform and spam heal yourself with Holy Shock and Word of Glory. Blessed Life and Protector of the Innocent will be needed for this to work. Let your eye for an eye do most of the damage to the images (depending on how well you're keeping yourself up, you can throw in a holy wrath and consecration between heals to speed up the dps). That's really it, simply keep yourself up until the images die and repeat the steps again.
Note: You may not be able to consistently cast 3 point WoGs... 2 point WoGs should work just fine for keeping yourself alive during the split phase. All of the above is running under the current Blessed Life mechanic, with the 2 second internal CD.
Enjoy!

I soloed this tonight as a feral bear and it was much harder than I thought.
First, ignore some of the previous comments on this site because the glyphs such as FR have changed. You also cannot swipe them down now that the CD on swipe has been extended.
Here's what worked for me. My GS is 5300 in feral.
(1) Get nature resist gear. I picked up a leg piece and a shoulder piece off the AH for 30g that added 125 resistance. Added the cloak enchant. With a MoTW and potion of lesser resistance the total was 257.
(2) When his mirror images spawn he turns dark for a moment. This is your clue. The adds spawn of the stairs.
Go out and pick one of them up
. Use feral charge. This accomplishes several things. First. by picking up arrgo right away you stop the earth shocks. Second, you force the other add to go that much further before it can hit you (the one of the opposite stairs). Third, it makes it much easier to tell the copy from the original.
Once you pick up one of the mirror images on the stairs mow it down. That only leaves one to deal with, making the damage much less.
What I found to be the killer (besides not having any resist gear) was simply the confusion that comes from having three copies running around. By picking up one of them on the stairs with feral charge it makes the fight a lot less confusing.
The most important thing to realize is that this is not a burn fight. Trying to burn him down just forces the next phase too soon. This is a survival fight.

I almost soloed him as a lvl 80 Subtlety rogue, but I failed at 19K health left because of losing track of time, and aggroing respawned Anubis mobs from where I was standing.
My tactic is based around having CloS for every split, and picking up Imp Recup for the improved healing and reduced damage. Running with about 48% dodge, 30K health and 125 NR (potion, flask and head enchant), with Lifeward on both weapons using Hemo as the combo point builder.
Rush in, get Recup immediately up with 5 points, build 5 points again, but don't use them. Slowly DPS him down to 75%, making sure you are topped off, then use Recup before he splits. Just as the split adds aggro, use CloS and ShS to one of the adds. Burn it down, then the other. When he's by himself again, build up to 5 points and refresh Recup if needed, then slowly DPS him down to his next split phase while CloS's CD is cleared. If you have to refresh Recup soon, then do it and build another 5 after. If you think you're doing too much DPS and might make the next phase before CloS is ready, then remove your weapons. You may not get Lifeward procs, but you'll be doing little damage while you heal up with Recup. Re-equip your MH for combo points then take it off if needed. Repeat the phase process again, but this next time, use Evasion.
For the last phase, you're in burn-down mode, because the boss will basically have around the same amount of health (unless I'm mistaken) as the other adds. It will take too much time to kill the other adds, and CloS doesn't last forever. Depending on your health, you may either use a health pot, or another magic resist potion (since it has only a 3 minute timer). Burn him down, ignoring the adds. Use Prep beforehand to have Evasion useable again.
I got him down to 19K health with this method, but hopefully my next attempt, I'll be successful. Combat might be easier, but having CloS every split phase feel more valuable, because Blade Flurry may not hit both low-health adds, making the boss that much closer to the next split.

4.0.3a changed this boss somehow. Not in the encounter itself but the damage from earth shock during split. I used to have to be bear form with 350 nature resist with cds every split but for some reason I didnt even need to pop cooldowns this week. My recount showed Earth shock doing like 30% of the damage while last week it was over 80%. Maybe it has to do with the new tamable bug trio but I for one welcome this change since I do AQ40 solo.

Easy Way To Clear as a BM Hunter (85) to get to the Bug Trio for taming:
Clear Trash - Tenacity pet tanks with ease, Ferocity and Cunning would probably work too, as Tenacity pets don't drop below 95% with Mend Pet.
Position Yourself - Skeram's MC has a limited range. Use Trap Launcher aimed at the bottom of the stairs and back up as far as you can before it's out of range. You'll be close enough to issue Kill Commands and use Mend Pet. The stairs will LoS ranged attacks on Skeram though. (In retrospect, you could probably position your pet halfway down the stairs and drop to max distance and be able to shoot Skeram then, I didn't try this because I was too busy raging at MC and wanted to be as safe as possible.)
Position Pet - Order your pet to 'Move To' somewhere next to where Skeram is standing. When Skeram splits, your pet will return here, instead of to you. This keeps Skeram at range unless you pull off your pet.
_________________________________________________
Kill Command x 1000000000
When Skeram splits, use deflection early to stop the biggest brunt of earth shocks and have the pet kill the clones. Feign Death seems to stop them briefly, but they always attacked me again a few seconds after breaking it.
After the clones die, it will go back to Skeram vs Your Pet, bandage at this time. You shouldn't ever drop below 50-60%.
Rinse and repeat everything under the line until he's dead.

Just did this as a Protection Warrior (iLevel 343, 140k-ish health with Shout).
Used Shield Wall on first split. Enraged Regen on second and burned down on third. Had around 34% health left after.
I suppose you could burn him down during split but I decided to play it safe and kill the two copies.

Soloable as a frost mage. Moderately tough, but doable as long as you manage all your cooldowns.
Do not use mirror image or water elemental. Skeram may mind control you, and reset.
Skeram has a habit of silencing me, so I used a mix of fireball and frostbolt, but the majority of my damage was from ice lance
I used prismatic elixir (90 res) + mage armor (45 res). Also used evocation glyph (40% health return). Time the evocate when it is just Skeram up by himself, and with a fresh ice barrier. Keep mage ward and mana shield up at all times as well, and ASAP when he splits.
Also, you can sort of melee the boss during casting to keep one of them from shocking you.
One last tip. Deep freeze can really win the day for you. Save your proc for the split if you can, and deep freeze can smash a target. If it crits, it will one shot a clone. If you don't have deep freeze up, don't worry, it isn't the end of the fight as you don't need it to get the kill, but it is harder.

Hey guys I just solo'd this guy he was pretty easy but time consuming and I found out the perfect way to solo Him as a BM Hunter
Grab a Spirit Beast
Spec him; 2/2 Serpent Swiftness, 3/3 Great Stamina, 2/2 Natural Armor, 2/2 Bloodthirsty, 1/1 Heart of the Phoenix, 3/3 Spiders Bite, 1/1 Rabid, 1/1 Lick your Wounds, 1/1 Call of the Wild, 2/2 Shark's Bite, 2/2 Wild Hunt
And make sure he has Growl, Spirit Mend, Lick your Wounds, and Heart of the Phoenix on his main Hot/Action Bar.
Now go in clear to the first boss and Misdirection to your pet, pull the boss, and quickly run up the side (Make sure the boss is tagged) and feign death on the platform that way you wont get MC'D and kill your pet. I tried 3 attempts (All 3 my pet died but I had a stack of MCx3 and I could control my char so I tested the Dmg and did somewere around 113k Dmg) so it started off my pet well. DO NOT MEND PET as long as Bloodthirsty is up you should be fine. Make sure your pet kills the Images that spawn. Other than that when he hits around 20k HP you should be able to spam Kill Shot and get an easy 54-60g. Im very happy I finally solo'd this boss sucessfully and I managed to solo tame Princess Yauj. GL on making that easy gold.
This Entry is for BM HUNTER Solo
EDIT: I found the spec off of another Hunter. Cheers thanks for the Spec! I DID NOT MAKE THE SPEC!

An absolute cakewalk as a fury warrior in normal-blues and a couple greens. I went in expecting a ridiculously difficult solo, as he had been last time I tried him in 3.3.5, and I finished with 60% health without popping any cooldowns.
I had 85 nature resist from tauren racial - though as has been noted previously, earth shock was nerfed to the ground so this wasn't a huge advantage - and Glyph of Bloody Healing.
As for the reason behind the earth shock nerf, personally I suspect that Skeram's Earth Shocks were linked somehow in the code to shaman earth shocks, and that the removal of spell ranks nerfed his Earth Shock down to n*(Earth shock at level 1), instead of n*(Earth shock at level 60). Something similar happened with Instructor Razuvius's Understudies and Heroic Strike - when 4.0.1 hit, their Heroic Strike ability had gained a 3 second cooldown and seemed much weaker than before.

My notes soloing as a demo warlock, ilvl 352:
This fight was easier before the self-healing nerf to fel armor, but it is still doable. I use demon armor now and a felguard on passive. You will not be MCd as long as you have aggro. Make sure to melee the boss so he's not earth shocking you. Burn and drain down to each split, and if possible have a split occur without a bunch of dots ticking (it'll give you more time during your next drain phase). Instant dots, shadowflame and fel flame during split to burn down the extras asap, then it's back to draining the boss. Save meta/immo aura for the final split at 25% and felstorm only after you have solid aggro to avoid MC. It's still possible to get an MC and reset after he blinks but it seems like a necessary risk and doesn't happen often.

Another strat for soloing this as a demo lock, this is what i did (ilvl ~340):
------------------------ before the pull put circle of teleport in T, out of LoS beyond the column
|.O...............O.| pull from I1: send felguard in, CoElements, BoDoom, Corr, teleport to T
|....................T| my idea was to stay covered for the whole fight and let my pet kill the boss.
|.O...............O.| If you are not out of LoS you'll be MCed, kill your pet, reset the fight and fail.
|....................P|
|x|-----------------|x| When images spawn: pet takes B and I2... felstorm and let him kill I2 quickly,
|x|-----------------|x| you take I1: run ClockWise to P and Corr, teleport to T, wait and spam felflame and shadowflame.
|x|-----..B...-----|x|
| I2 xx pet xx I1 | If/when pet dies (mine at boss ~5% hp) pop meta, charge and finish it with instants
-----------x------------
x: stairs, B: boss, I1/2: boss image1 and 2, pet:your pet will fight there, O:columns, T:where you stand and where the teleport circle is, P:where you run in phase transition to aggro I1
It is still a little risky because you can be MCed when you are in P. If this happens anyway you'll kill the pet but the fight will reset before your character reaches B... at least you do not die
...long live ascii art :P

Almost ridiculously easy as a level 85 combat rogue. I'm not even geared for Cataclysm heroics yet, just thought I would give it a go, and was pleasantly surprised. He even reset once because I got mind-controlled and I just jumped right back in and burned him down again without delay.
Keep up Slice & Dice and Rupture, as you would on any boss fight, and use Combat Readiness when available. Keep Recuperate up every second of the fight. When he splits it really works to your advantage that they all attack at once, you can burn them down very fast by turning on Blade Flurry and using Killing Spree if available.
That's it. No potions of any kind, regulation poisons; slow green (!) mace main hand, fast blue dagger offhand. Fight took maybe 4 minutes, he split 3 times, and as I said I almost had him beat once and just jumped in again when he reset.
Pretty exciting, and will make farming for the Red Qiraji Resonating Crystal more enjoyable ^_^

I was able to solo this guy on my holy priest, level 85. I tried him at 80 and he ate me, so I have been wanting to come back and give him a try. It took me two tries to get the strategy down, and it didn't take too long to burn him down after that.
First of all, don't use Shadowfiend. He will simply mind control you and reset if you do.
He constantly interrupts casting, so you can't really do too much. What I did was simply keep Shadow Word: Pain and Devouring Plague up on him, using Holy Word: Chastise on cooldown, and keeping myself bubbled.
The only part where I took enough damage to need more than the bubble was during the split phase, which he does three times during the battle. During this phase, I used the same technique on the two adds, then back on the boss after they were both dead. However, I also used a Renew and Prayer of Mending to keep myself up.
That's it!

i figured out how to solo him. All you need is a lvl 85 BM hunter along with a turtle or tenacity pet, the pet must have Silverback on. You sneak to the back of the temple near the wall, BUT don't hug the wall, stand close to it, send in your pet on Skeram, when Skeram splits send your pet to attack the clones because the unwanted dmg will kill him (you wanna pay attention because your pet will run back to you which is a risk of MC) after he kills the clones you put your pet back on the prophet and you repeat until he is dead. the only downside to this strategy is you cant get his loot without running the risk of getting MCed. but if you wanna try to farm for the pretty dresses let this guide you to victory

Soloable as frost mage 85.
Do NOT summon your pet NOR mirror images.
Put your frost armor, and drink some armor potion right before pull.
Go and STAY to melee range and spam right clic (to have a constant melee attack) AND icelance (some dps is good too).
Be sure to have a decent rotation between ice barrier and mana shield.
Use your orb and cone of cold to have crit icelance some more dps.
Use a second armor potion as soon as the cooldown permits it.

Engage without totems, drop the weaker adds from splits, then self-heal as needed when just main boss is up. Try to be topped off before crossing 75%, 50%, 25%. Pop sham. rage if taking heavy damage, save MW5 procs for heals.

splits each time = super solo wipe as your pet de-spawns and they instantly aggro onto the only target remaining...YOU!
NOTE: This is for those people who have trouble visualizing text w/o a graphic, as well as a play-by-play for Hunters. Long yes, but tank/caster strategies do not work for Hunters with long broken mechanics. For this boss, you take the Hunter out of the fighting, which is 95% of the DPS -enabling abilities, leaving only the pet to tank aggro with one (1) spell only.

Required:
A Tenacity pet is a MUST, in this case I used a

Prep for the initial assault:
Hopefully as BM spec you have the
被烧毁的雕文
to reduce cool down. Prior to sending your beast at Skeram, switch to
, which casts also onto your Tenacity beast. It seems to help for some reason, even though it drops off once combat starts. Not sure why, but keep it up for your own resistances to the other spells cast by Skarem which DO hit you even at great distances. If you are above 80 you should be able to Resist most of the damage and tick heals faster than what is taken.
DO NOT
attack Skeram
at all
while your pet beast is fighting unless you like beating on your pets while bloodlusted (they WILL
精神控制
with
充实
buffs). I've taken down my own pet in <10 seconds...
Begin the Battle:
Send your beast in and just before it starts to go down the stairs, cast
狂野怒火
, it will be the only time it will be in LoS to do this. Let your beast take him down to 75% spamming
杀戮命令
only (optional is
but supposedly that consumes
added pet attack speed, so only use if you want your pet to add focus to use a greater ability...) and an occasional
胁迫
that sometimes works. The boss spits out two clones at 75%, and again at 50% and 25% health.
Don't move around unless your pet is attacking a ported Skeram further away from you, then get in decent range to ensure the pet doesn't de-spawn on you.
Do not
cross the line shown above. Each clone is roughly about 50k health (*Heroic/Normal have different values), so have your beast attack one of those, spamming
杀戮命令
.
Do not try to heal your pet!
That requires LoS and is fatal. You'll notice your pet does just fine without you, as long as you focus it on the clones to get their DPS off of the pet once dead.
Finale:
75%, have pet munch down adds, then focus on boss.
Always
have your pet attack the next clone/boss when one is about to die. Hunters aren't like tanks or casters, once pet de-spawns due to lack of targets, the
BOSS
resets and/or comes after
you
. 50%, 25%, same - rinse - repeat until
almost
dead, then run in and hit him with
anything DPS
other than
震荡射击
(yes, some will still try) so that you can loot it. Done. Tactic may work for casters with minions, though they may draw more aggro. Either way enjoy the ASCII map!
"Duh moment"
...:
If your pet gets boneheaded and vanishes for no reason, or one the butt-stompers-that-be are about to make your life worse,
假死
immediately to lose aggro. The boss resets faster and you can ress your poor carcass, erm, pet if needed. If the pet maintains aggro but one of them are out to get you and you do not choose to use this...enjoy the
倾倒有毒货物
laid out on you. Rate me up if this was helpful in some way! =^)
====================================
Update for patch 4.3:
Above tactics are
still valid
! Easier now with easier to get raid gear in the 80's, but same problems when newer 80's are with lower tier gear as above. Improved Hunter skills still do not make up for the mechanics of this boss. For testing I put on my same iL 333-335 gear as above and same tactics apply.

This guy can be killed by hunters in a very straightforward, yet irritating, process. BM would be preferred to get max DPS out of Kill Command. Just remember these tips and you'll be fine:
-Send your pet in and only use Kill Command.
-If you stay at 50 yds, you will never get MC'd (MC range is 45 yd).
-Don't go further than 50 yds or risk your pet despawning
-Tenacity or Ferocity pet will do, get the self healing talents as you will not be able to cast Mend Pet.
-Kill the adds as they spawn (with your pet of course)
-Throw on Aspect of the Wild if the clones start to hit you with their lightning spell
-Don't get frustrated if the boss slips into range and MC's you, just feign after your pet is dead and start over.

How to solo The Prophet Skeram as a hunter:
It took me a little while to figure out the trick to soloing him and here it is.
I went with my standard
MM soloing build (7/31/3)
with a tenacity pet. You should probably use a BM build with a Beetle or Turtle (Shell Shield) but I didn't. Before you start the fight, throughout most of the fight you will be taking about 500 Nature damage/sec (
Earth Shock
). Some of it will be resisted and with
Spirit Bond
, it shouldn't be a problem but if you think it will be or you don't have Spirit Bond, you can bring along an
Elixir of Mighty Fortitude
for it's 20hp regen every 5 seconds.
You're going to want to start off the fight with a high damage burst to get him as low as possible very quickly and you'll want to
misdirect
that damage to your pet. Before you send your pet in, you must tag him first. I went with a misdirected
Aimed Shot
+
Chimera Shot
combo which usually does about 100,000 damage for me if it crits.
The second Skeram is down to 75%, get out of range because he's going to split and the splits will MC you and you will fail. If you are out of range, they won't MC you. At this point you have 3 Skerams you can attack but only 1 is the correct one, which is the one with the most health. Instead of having your pet attack the right one, have him kill the others so you can help DPS Skeram. What I did was have my pet kill one, then attack the other and I ran just close enough to fire off a Chimera Shot to help my pet. Once both the adds are dead, you can help DPS the boss. This will be repeated again at 50% and 25%.
I don't suggest having your pet just attack the correct Skeram otherwise you will be overrun with copies and your pet will take a lot of damage and since you can't risk running in and using Mend Pet, he'll die. That's it, just repeat that until Skeram is dead.
You must resist the urge to DPS the adds, you cannot risk doing anything because you will most likely be MC'd.

I solo'd this guy as a hunter in a very bizarre way. I went in with my pet and I ended up killing my pet while I was mind controlled. Since I was the only one left, he disengaged and that's when the glitch happened. Even though he disengaged, I was still super big and I still had the amazing damage increase. I just mounted up while I was still huge to look how big I was and it was ridiculous. I one shot the boss right after I dismounted. Wish I had it on video...

soloed this on 40 mode with my lvl 80 shadow priest at first i was trying to do it with my friend but he kept mind controlling her and doing crazy amount of damage on me, so i told her to wait by the entrance and i solo, this is how i did it:
first off you should use all your dots and mind blast when you have at least one orb then redo all dots because after the first phase it will be near impossible to do a non instant cast,
use your pet as much as you can and cast fade right after summoning it so you will have a bit of a free time to cast mind blast and VT,
when he splits into 3 you should put
SW:P
on each and
DP
on last one, then just spam holy nova until they are all dead(ofc you should consider casting SW:D on one of them) and repeat.
took me about 10-15min never went under 60% health and never had to use dispersion

whew, this takes a bit of practice. here's how i did it as an affliction lock. My poor early tries (and fails) were as destro but imagine it's doable.
fight the boss on his platform right where he sits. attack the boss with your felhunter out, but at no point during any of this fight use it to attack the main boss. leave it on passive. if the boss charms you when no adds are up, you will own your felhunter, and your felhunter dying during charm means the boss will reset.
dot the boss up and get him to 75% at your leisure, meleeing him periodically to stop his shock. have a soul swap saved, and when the adds spawn, immediately swap onto one add and send your pet to attack the other add. then instant dot and cast until the adds are down - you can melee the boss if the adds are all dotted up and things are going well. if you do get charmed, the dots you soul swapped should be enough to kill the one add, and the pet will keep attacking (and kill) the other add, and the felhunter should survive any damage you're doing to him during the charm. I don't know why, but you seem to hurt him much less if you get charmed while adds are up vs being charmed just vs the main boss. After each add wave, make sure to heal the felhunter to full as if you get charmed during any set of waves you need him to survive. Then rinse and repeat.
I found the first two waves typically went really well, the third wave for some reason i typically got more unfortunate charms, but just take a few tries and it will get done.

I read something about a demo lock doing this by sending in his pet and setting up a port to the side, out of LOS. He put dot's on the boss and grabbed an add off his felguard. For me, this was not necessary as I have just defeated him while only putting up Curse of Elements, Bane of Doom, and Corruption on the boss once. I dotted him up ported immediately and let my felguard do the rest, controlling my demon from afar. When adds spawned, I would be ready for it and send my felguard to attack the boss while felstorming. Adds died, back on boss. Rinse and repeat whenever I could. My gear is alot of ruthless, as I pvp mostly. I don't know if I just got lucky or what but I will continue the strat of letting my demon kill him from now on. It seems to be sooo much easier. Plus, even if my demon was to die, (which he was alittle close to it), the boss is almost dead then. Meta and finish it. :)

I soloed this with my mage.
it took several wipes before I realized that the key point is to land some
melee attacks
on him, so he won't cast the earth shock which interrupts you. Even in slpit it
deacreases the damage a LOT
if one of the "fakes" isn't casting it.
Also don't pop mirror images, because it causes you to get MC'ed (suprise suprise, you're not alone anymore...) and resets the boss.
Did this in frost spec because the insta-casts and ice barrier. I probably could had pulled this off in arcane spec too if I'd figured the tactics out sooner.

Don't put up any totems. Might be that passive totems work but i didnt want to try and it is not really necessary.
Use Flametongue Weapon. Make sure you can easily cast Lightning Shield and use Primal Strike.
DPS him down in melee. Use Earth Shock and Flame Shock and constantly renew the lightning shield. Use Primal Strike every CD. Heal yourself once a while using Riptide.
Do the same on the copies. Takes a while but gets down eventually. I wasn't MCed once.
Fought him where he stands. Hope this helps :)

I can't believe no other hunter has thought of this, but: Put your pet away!
That's right, if you melee him he won't MC you, so put your pet away and smack him with your stick. No BM spec, no spirit beast, no hiding behind rocks. (Will be even easier in MoP when we will have no minimum range.) Use his teleports as a chance to get a couple shots off. When he split I was able to shoot one clone down before it got to me. The other I would disengage to shoot a couple times, then continued hitting him with my polearm + Raptor Strike (which he dodged most of the time anyway). Traps for some extra damage.
Current ilvl is 386, though you could probably do it in less. I couldn't bandage as Deterrance didn't block everything, but I still had roughly 40% health left at the end. He died in a couple minutes and I got to loot. Easy peesy.

I've never been successful with this boss while in a small group because of the MC and split. But finally there is an honest chance to solo the Prophet at level 85. Just burn the adds down as they spawn in 25% intervals, and make sure you keep the threat.

So soloable as BM hunter with shale spider. I got spider pet to attack and sank one serpant sting before running to left area of steps. Kill command when available but you will not need no shots from here out. There is an area under the left (and right) side to go under that keeps you safe from mindcontrol and you stay under there until pet kills all three of them. Just hit kill command when it comes up. I am level 85 but no reason a lower level can't do this.A note for all classes: if you go up the steps and run off ledge at the deepest point the boss will reset.

I know being 85 makes it different. But still. This is a very simple solo fight.
I am a 394 Hunter With 141k HP. I used BM & Arcturis for a pet. Took off my staff & bow - NO weapons.
I had to balance :
1. Damage to me.
2. Healing Arcturis
3. Pet commands such as Bestial Wrath & Kill.
All I did for the fight was let the pet do everything & just kept him & me alive. Fight time under 5 minutes. Easy. No tricks.

this dude was piss easy to solo as a 90 balance druid. Just spam moonfire and sunfire and faceroll your way to victory. Encountered no MC (I suppose he doesn't do it to the tank, most MC bosses dont).

Please help.
I am getting spammed with an earth shock from Skeram about every half second, on my 90 elemental shaman, and I am getting spell locked with any castable attack and heal. These spell locks are all instant with no cooldown, so I can never get a heal off. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to know something about the way he attacks or the way I am attacking to prevent this? I just get earth shock spammed to death, as I get spell locked when I try to heal.

Soloers: Be wary of any sort of proc or trinket that triggers a spawned pet that will fight for you, or if you are a class with a pet. Skeram will mind control you, and once he has you kill your pet, the encounter will reset since there are no more hostile elements attacking him. I had a guildie, blood DK at level 85, who had difficulty because he would sometimes proc blood worms and then get mind controlled.
As a warrior soloing him, I just stood there and spammed AoE attacks until he collapsed.

Very doable! I soloed this guy as a level 86 Holy Priest with
Chakra: Chastise
up, and with not-so-ideal gear (quest blues & greens).
He spams Holy Lock, which made it impossible for me to cast anything but instants - so I just spammed
Shadow Word: Pain
and
Holy Word: Chastise
and he went down eventually. The fight probably took about ten minutes, maybe a bit less.
I just kept myself alive with
Power Word: Shield
and
Renew
. I didn't even run out of mana! And got my
Mini Mindslayer
!
If a noob like me can do it, I daresay anyone can! :)

Some information and advice if (like me) you are not an amazing player. This probably won’t be helpful to non-casters:
I was able to solo this on my 85 fire mage the day before patch 5.2 went live, but I wiped 5 or 6 times and when I did beat him I only had about 2k health left. If you are soloing, and you have a choice of character, it is strongly advised that you use a non-caster. It is certainly doable as a caster, but it will be extremely difficult.
What I did, how I found it, and my advice:
Goblin Fire Mage
Talents:
Scorch
– I forgot to switch this out for Presence of Mind. Scorch is unusable for this fight as it has a cast time. Instant Pyro every 90 seconds would have been helpful.
Now that 5.2 is live, Scorch is a base ability for fire mages, replaced with blazing speed. Presence of Mind is the best tier 1 talent for this boss.
Ice Barrier
– Was essential to prevent death, but I’m not sure how the new Flameglow will compare.
Frostjaw
Cauterize
Living bomb
Glyphs:
Counterspell
Ice Block
Fire Blast
Mirror Image
Momentum
Rapid Teleportation
There are definitely better Glyphs you could use for this fight. None of mine were helpful. Fire Blast has been replaced with Inferno Blast with this patch, but its new incarnation isn’t any more useful for this fight. Ones that empower your instant abilities (such as Glyph of Cone of Cold), or that improve your survivability (such as Glyph of Armors) would be more useful.
Gear:
Combination of dungeon gear (cataclysm, both normal and heroic), and mop stuff from the auction house, average item level of 378.
Total bonus from Gems, Enchants, and Inscriptions: 514 Intellect, 200 Crit, 220 Haste.
I can’t remember the name of the food and elixirs I was using, but the bonus from those was 100 Haste and 225 Mastery. I forgot before the start that Haste would be useless.
Other items:
G91地雷
Super Healing Potion
I didn't have a strategy for this fight, I honestly wasn't expecting to be able to do it. I made mistakes all over the place, but hopefully you won't be as stupid as me and will perform better.
He interrupts all of your casts and locks you out of that spell tree, so the first thing you do to pull the boss is the only opportunity for a spell with a cast time. With this in mind, I opened with Pyroblast.
During the fight, I spammed Ice Lance and Arcane Explosion, alternating between the two, and refreshed Living Bomb whenever I remembered. I used Inferno blast every time it was available, and combustion immediately afterwards when that was available. Sometimes I got lucky with this and would get a Pyroblast proc.
I was concentrating only on Skeram, I didn’t bother with his clones (thought they would have been hit with Arcane Explosion). I don’t know how many of the clones I killed during the fight.
I used Ice Block immediately when I Cauterized to cancel the damage from Cauterize. I stayed in the block for it’s entire duration to let Ice Barrier cool down and Living Bomb tick on the boss. I used Ice Barrier and my healing potion immediately on exiting the Ice Block
When the boss was on very low health I used a G91 Landshark. With the limited moves at my disposal, it is definitely worth using. Skeram doesn’t interrupt its cast time.
I killed it a couple of Arcane Blasts later.
General tips and advice/ TL;DR:
Don’t under any circumstances use Mirror Image or other pets.
Skeram won’t use Mind Control if you are alone, but as soon as you introduce any pets, including Mirrors, you will be mind controlled, and the his health may be reset while you are stuck unable to do anything.
Know your instants!
Don’t be an idiot like me and forget that you have a load of instant abilities that could be useful, and also know in advance which ones are worth using. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. Looking back at the combat log, I would have done more damage to Skeram (let alone his clones) only using Arcane Blast and not using Ice Lance at all. It is worth scrawling through your spell book for instants that you may not normally use, as they could be helpful here. It may be helpful rearranging your action bars to have all of your useful instants in one place, even if it is a pain putting everything back afterwards.
Only use useful buffs.
Sounds stupid, but I forgot in the heat of the moment and when I was preparing that Haste wouldn’t be helpful for this fight. Don’t miss out on an extra edge for using the wrong Well Fed buff, and don’t waste precious seconds using Time Warp during the fight.

Alright, so here's a little trick (or whatever you want to call it)
Went to solo with my 89 DK, and eventually died because of my bloodworms making him mc me. However, after being mind controlled about six times and killing many copies of him, dying, and running back to the instance, i was able to loot all of the dead bodies i had killed, getting the loot of (i didn't get an exact number) around 4-5 bosses, even getting two of Jewel of Maddening Wispers.
And as another perk, each kill gave me 110 rep with Brood of Nozdormu, so if you can tank a large number of these bosses easily, its a great way to farm rep quickly.

and got no loot. I decided to petition a GM in case there was an issue with bosses in AQ.
Apparently there was an issue with getting loot soloing him and killing the clones, etc. The devs tried to fix it but it is still bugged (no pun intended). So, currently, you MAY NOT get loot from him, but the doors still open and you can continue through the raid.

As of Friday, March 22nd, he can again be succesfully killed and looted. The fix, apparently, was to not make him split up into copies at all any more - that, or I just killed him too fast. Either way, time to get your Mindflayers again, people!

Ive had the same issue with him dropping no loot for the past 3 weeks but as of 03/27 he drops loot again but the mechanics of the fight have changed and he no longer clones himself.

Pain in the ass as of 5.3.0! Have to dismiss elemental and even take off the dragonling trinket since he'll make you attack that too! He'll perpetually lock your spells so all you can use is instant cast spells. Now that you're much higher level than him and he can't kill you he instead just disappears and reappears at full health! I don't want his loot, but gotta kill him to open the door. Took me forever stuck with using only instant cast spells, used to solo fly through this guy easily every week.

To easily solo as a 90 Mage, spam Arcane Blast and any other instant cast spells you have, alternating to another spec should he lock you. It'll take a while, and you'll probably go down to about 1/3 of your health, but you should be able to beat him.
Try not to move too far away from where he first appears, or he'll despawn and you'll have to start over. Just keep still and spam.

Solo guide for Affliction:
1. Summon Succubus.
2. Grimoire of Sacrifice the Succubus. You now have her little whiplash thing. It's not necessary but it's a little boost.
3. Go engage the boss on his platform. Be ready to auto-attack. *shrug* Not ideal but we do what we must.
4. DOTS DOTS (only your insta-cast ones!) and Curse of Elements on him and his clones, and use that whiplash when it cools down.
5. Keep doing all that. Switch as needed.
6. ?
7. Prophet!

Hoping this might help someone...
I came in this raid last night as an 81
resto druid
(iLvl 243) and brought a 64 Warrior friend with me for fun.
He stood back at the top of the steps to watch, and I was able to fight without the boss aggroing him.
I opened up with Fae Fire and Moonfire, Lifebloom 3 times, Rejuv, and Swiftmend.
I turned
cat
, Rake, Mangle 4 times, Ferocious Bite. (I admit, I
have no idea
on how to maximize damage with cat and bear form... I would appreciate no negative comments about that. If you know better, then you can do it better than me.)
I tried to not let my Lifebloom stacks drop, so I would refresh Lifebloom, Rejuv, and Swiftmend right before they timed out.
Once he split into 3, I really had to be on top of the healing cooldowns, and had to switch to
bear
, and just focus on one at a time.
It took me about 15 minutes of this, but I finally downed him after slowly chipping away at the clones. Again, I don't know the fight strategy, either.. But I did it!
This is so people will know that, if I can do it as a Resto Druid, with little knowledge of Feral or Guardian specs, so can all those other trees out there!

As a caster, even at level 90 pre-6.0.2, he was a challenge. I'm not sure about now, as no one has commented since the changes. The reason he is a pain for casters is that he spams Earth Shock, meaning you ultimately can't cast anything but instant spells if you don't want to be locked out of your school for 8 sec, or whatever it is. Although I did read somewhere that if you melee him he doesn't Earth Shock quite so often. After all, the fight would have been nigh on impossible if in a raid all casters were rendered all but useless. Bear in mind also that you can't use any sort of combat pet or he will mind control you, meaning warlocks can't use their demon, mages their mirror images, Elemental shaman their elementals, or priests their shadowfiend.
If I can find time to do this, I'll see how challenging he is for a mage now. It might pay to just go frost, place your bomb, send out your orb and spam ice lance...

I was finding it impossible to get past this guy as a level 71 Demonology Warlock. What did the trick was to dismiss the demon pet.
Here was the strategy that worked for me:
1. Shadow Bolt and then a four shard Hand of Gul'dan
2. Doom
3. Summon Doomguard
4. Demonic Empowerment
5. Casting spells at this point became impossible due to interuption (heal with trinket or healthstone if necessary)
6. Doomguard dies
7. Cast Unending Resolve
8. Call Dreadstalkers
9. Demonic Empowerment
That did the trick and the door finally opened after approximately one gazillion attempts...

A similar bug happened to me today as it is stated on the other comments regarding no loot & doors stay closed when killing him. Actually it looked like I didn't kill him, he just disappeared while being at very low hp with clones.
I contacted GM, and GM respawned him for me. Said it might be related to my DPS being higher than encounter was designed for. Although I was already killing him slowly at the first time by only using and voidwalker (which got killed on the process by me under anyway). My theory; Skeram disappears/phases out while creating clones and I guess he died while doing that which caused this problem. At 2nd attempt: I ignored his clones when he was below 50% hp, and I only focused on the middle one. Seems like the real one is always in the middle (not confirmed). So he didn't disappear to split while his clones are already alive and I just killed him, it worked for me. Even if the real one is not always in the middle, you should still only focus on one target instead of damaging all of them. If you are damaging all 3 of them and kill one of his clones, he will go back to split again and he might die in the splitting process which I think might be the reason of this bug.
(I was going to add this as a reply to the relevant comment originally but fewer characters are allowed on replies so I couldn't.)
tldr; Try to avoid killing him when he teleports back to his terrace for preparing to split which is followed by him disappearing for a moment while casting.
