Second to last boss in Blackwing Lair. This is the final boss you will fight before Nefarian.
This is a very complicated fight and is difficult to explain without seeing it.
Best reference for this fight:
As with most of the fights in BWL, this fight is a ton easier once you've successfully killed him the first time.
Time Lapse breath is also known as "Hard Mode Chrommie."
This week was my guilds first Time Lapse / Ignite Flesh Chromaggus combo. Hard Mode is right...harder than Nef for us. I advise tanking him in the lower room where you fight Ebonroc & Flamegor. You can use the cubbies in that room to postion your offtank behind Chromaggus with the appropriate healers & decursers. When the time lapse breath hits the offtank can run out of the cubbie & grab Chromaggus from behind instantly turning him away from the raid & sparing everyone.
Best is to keep him on the ramp where Ebonroc was. Tank below him, split the raid into two roughly even halves, the slightly healer-heavy one stands on top of the ramp behind the central pillar (can heal MT from there, but is not in LoS from Chromaggus), the DPS-heavy one stands behind the wall where it leads to Neffy (can easily dodge out of LoS there.
Cleanse a ton. This is crucial, the debuffs should never stack up. DPSers dodge at 8-10 seconds left until Breath once they have the Bronze Affliction, later an they might get hit by one of the breath-weapons.
Cleanse, Cleanse, Cleanse, keep him tranq'ed, DPSers never get hit (unless it's Time Lapse, that is ok to be hit with), and at 20% open up all timered skills and give him hell. Then he should fall quickly.
Incinerate - just straight damage. Provided the MT never has the black affliction on him, just extra healing, no DPSer should ever get hit, the odd Tranq Hunter should quickly be healed up again.
Ignite Flesh - tricky. This is one where it is ab-so-lut-ely crucial that DPS dodges the breaths. Otherwise again, keep the black affliction off the MT, and you're fine.
Time Lapse - extremely tricky. Second MT needs to build aggro, run out of LoS when the breath comes, then the moment it hits jump in to where the MT was standing, and run back to generate aggro wen the effect is over. 2-3 tries, and it's one of the easiest breaths though :)
Corrosive Acid - Means a lot of extra damage on the MT, so needs a ton of healing. Otherwise the same old, same old. Get the DPSers to all dodge early enough, heal the odd tranq-shot hunter being hit, and it's all fine.
Frost Burn - Deadly if a caster gets hit. Should not get hit, so this is one of the easiest :)
He is really not that hard. Know the 5 breaths, perfect the setup a bit, don't fear Time Lapse (it's the easiest IMO), and get the DPSers to always dodge early enough (the last is what kills most raids in the long run, it costs too much healing then).
Then Chromaggus is dead ;)
>> BWL: Chromaggus Strategy
Chromaggus is a boss in Blackwing Lair, right before Nefarian. One of the most challenging aspects to Chromaggus is the randomness of his abilities. As the name suggests (derived from "khroma", the greek word for "color") (name can also come from Chromatic, which means he's powered by dragonflights from all colors), Chromaggus shimmers in various colours related to the palette of his current abilities. The abilities are determined upon instance creation, and will only be reset with the instance timer. Despite his canine appearence, he's actually a dragonkin. (It is possible that he was created as a result of Nefarian experimenting on captured Core Hounds, such as The Beast found in Upper Blackrock Spire, possibly by feeding or injecting dragon blood from various dragons from all dragonflights, since there are dry dragon corpses hanging around.)
Frenzy: Increased attack speed and power every 15 secs. Tranquilize.
Skin Shimmering: Periodically changes weakness to a specific school of magic
Chromaggus Breaths: 2 out of 5 possible 360 degree LOS Breaths.
Corrosive Acid: Deals 875 to 1125 Nature damage every 3 secs. Armour reduced by 4-5k.
Incinerate: 3675-4275 Fire Damage.
Frost Burn: Attack speed reduced by 80%. Approximately 1400 Frost damage.
Ignite Flesh: 657-843 Fire damage every 3 seconds for 45 seconds.
Time Lapse: Arcane, Frozen in time! 6 second stun. Aggro reduced by 50%. *
* Similar to the Broodlord Encounter, all Warriors must generate as much aggro as they can. 1 Priest per Warrior for shield prior to breaths, Shaman heal currently aggro'd Warrior, while Druids ensure they are all topped off above 85%. Immediately following Alternative Breath: only Hunters, Mages, Rogues, and Warlocks get into LOS with Chromaggus to take the Time Lapse. Healers remain out of LOS with Chromaggus during the entire encounter. At 10 second warning before Time Lapse, all Warriors get out of LOS to ensure that one of them will pickup aggro. 1x designated Hunter goes out of LOS during Time Lapses to tranq. Once Time Lapse is casted, the OT that takes aggro moves onto the MT spot with Chromaggus and waits for Time Lapse stun to fade. Shaman move to exposed corner and heal whichever warrior is repositioning Chromaggus after Time Lapse fades. All players move out of LOS at 10 second warning before Alternative Breath. Rinse, repeat.
Brood Affliction, Black: CURSE, Increases fire damage taken by 100%.
Brood Affliction, Blue: MAGIC, Burns 50 mana every 1 sec. Casting speed reduced by 50%
Brood Affliction, Bronze: NONE, Periodically stuns for 4 secs, use Hourglass Sand to dispel.
Brood Affliction, Green: POISON, Deals 250 damage every 5 secs. Healing effects reduced by 50%.
Brood Affliction, Red: DISEASE, Deals 50 damage every 3 secs. Heals Chromaggus on death.
- Rogue pulls lever and Sprint/Vanishes towards the MT for the pull.
- MT stands smack in the middle of the entrance to Chromaggus' room.
- Consume Hourglass Sand as soon as you get Brood Affliction: Bronze.
Melee & Ranged DPS:
- DPS in between breaths and get out of LOS against the left wall during breaths.
- Manage your own HP with pots. If you catch a breath, whisper a healer.
- Mages, decurse of Black (Curse) when out of LOS for DPS. Prioritize on MTs.
- Hunters, tranq and consume Hourglass Sand when afflicted by Bronze.
- Remain out of LOS with Chromaggus at ALL times. Similar to Firemaw.
- Druids, decurse Black (Curse) and cleanse Green (Poison). Prioritize on MTs.
- Priests, dispel Blue (Magic) and remove Red (Disease). 2x on Clense duty.
- Shaman, drop appropriate totems to remove Green (Poison) and Red (Disease).
- During Breaths, GET OUT OF LOS WITH CHROMAGGUS.
Since the decursive nerf, it is important now to assign group cleansers/decursers. Ideally you want your mages to decurse as well, because druids will be tasked to decurse and abolish poisons. But even with the decursive nerf, this fight is doable, though it may be a bit tedious for the dispellers.
It can be very hard to get the right positions sorted out for Chrommagus, I found this link, it shows a way to sort of the positions for each class, and hiding spots etc. There are lots of other ways to sort classes out for positions.
this boss is a cross of a core hound and a dragonkin, also like the beast yet ya know, harder.
well the beast isnt crossed with a dragonkin he probably was an experiment and now controlled by the forces of Nefarion.
thanks for the link info too. it was a useless link.
He's acctually lvl 73 (elite ofc)
any hunters try taming this guy yet?
A very sad thing is.. He got a really unique skin for a "Core Hound" but because there is noone like him you cant have a pet with this cool look.(Because he is a boss there for not tame-able)
'Hard-Mode' (aka time lapse) Chromagg was still tough even at level 70. we wiped four times before we got him down. Bring your sand lol.
Tips for doing BWL with very few people:
Chromaggus - In our group - Healadin/Tankadin/Mut Rogue/Elemental Shaman, we got hard mode chrommie (Time lapse breath) and it was hell. We barely managed to kill him after several attempts. The reason we had such a large problem is we didn't have enough sand for the whole group so Bronze was always up, Black was always up since we couldn't decurse, and Red stacks too high to cleanse effectively so we had to rely on the disease cleansing totem to slowly remove it. So if Chromaggus threw up Blue, Time lapsed, and threw up green, it was GG as most of the party got converted. In the end we finally got it just because he didn't end up doing that. Fight took about 10 minutes as he has 2 million hp.
Edit: Note that my original comment above was back at level 80 in Wrath (back in Naxx gear). At 85, he is very simple for 1-2 people to do. He can be tricky to solo if you don't resist enough of the colors though.
For those that are interested, the race of this dragon is called a Drakeadon.
A four-legged, two-headed lizard beast.
It is speculated that Drakeadons are genetically engineered Core Hounds captured by Nefarian, mixing dragon genes with to Core Hound DNA.
The name "Drakeadon" is taken from the game files as no other name is known.
Chromatic dragonflight aside, I wonder if this might also be a reference to the band Cro-Mags.
First defeated by Fury of Medivh on the ? of ?, 2005.
Chromaggus makes his triumphant return as a boss in the Trail of Champions!
He can be summoned while fighting
Argent Confessor Paletress
For hunters that like core hounds.....Chromaggus may have a core hound model and animations....he is a boss lvl dragonkin mob so sadly he's untameable. I'd gladly give up my MC core hound for this one >_>
A Wild Chromaggus Apeared!
Just from looking at the heads and the eyes you may see how the dragon genetics where combined with the corehound's.
Also by its name with 'Chrom', you can logically assume it has to be a mixed breed from the dragonkin.
Well, Chromaggus is one hell of a badass dog, but he is defo soloable as 80 paladin tank with pvp gear mainly.
Managed to solo Chromaggus with Incinerate/Frost Burn, so wasnt hard setup, but the really pain here was to keep dispelling the disease @#$%loads of time so it didnt reach to many stacks, had plenty of Hourglass Sand but ran out of em at 10%, so had to plan Divine Shield with 50stacks of disease and the Stun effect from bronze shizzle. but else its a really mindbreaking fight, cause when you reach those 10% you will without doubt smash you pc, if you dont succeed after friking 53min.
the whole Chromaggus fight took me alone 59min, with 2near death exp (below 1k hp), but owned him in the end, and earned 250g in rewards=)
Méeka - Shadowsong EU
he looks incredibly similar to a corehound. wouldn't it be something if his model eventually became tameable?
Nefarian is supposed to be returning in Cata, so maybe his evil experiments will too, however considering they'd be classified as a dragon instead of a beast you can likely assume they won't be tameable by a hunter, not that BM will ever have a use beyond AFKing in major city with your rare exotic pet lol
Yes its soloable as a prot pally, tho its pretty annoying depending on breaths. I had Time Lapse and Incinerate, the stun was very annoying but the other wasnt such a big deal, tho it was double damage due to the curse that i couldnt cleanse.
Used drums of the wild, runescroll of fortitude, blessing of sanctuary and flask of stoneblood, had like 40k hp that way.
Also took me like 50-60 mins, ran out of hourglass sand pretty early, like at 80-70%, cant remember, but its not important.
Just use seal of vengeance when you are ok on health and dont have like 40-50 stacks of the disease and bronze affliction. You will be pretty much spamming cleanse, other than keeping ss, judgement of light/wisdom and holy shield up, also use divine shield every cd to get rid of debuffs, same with avenging wrath. If you get low on hp just switch to light for a while and use gift of the naaru if you are draenei. Never let him stun you without sacred shield up at least, holy shield wont help then so its important that you atleast absorb a bit of dmg.
Try to have full hp/mana and some cd's up when he hits enrage and use vengeance if you can, so you get him down faster, but if you want to be safe just judge light and use seal of light.
Sry if the grammar isnt perfect but hope its atleast a bit useful, english isnt my first language:P
Couldn't solo as a blood tank DK with 6.1K gear score.
Mainly due to only have one type of sand - so ultimately when 4 types are on you - the 5th will transform you and thus the sand I did have was useless.
Also rather annoying - if you solo this and become mutated - you remain mutated for the entire 5 minutes sitting underneath Chromagus - this boss fails to reset and will happily run through the entire instance to the entrance if anyone is inside.
5 years you'd think this would have been corrected...
Tried so solo him as a Shadowpriest (6444 gs), but it appears to be undoable at 80 unless you're very lucky with the elemental weakness.
Got him to around 30% hp, but he wouldn't shift into shadow weakness for a while. It's impossible to keep yourself alive very long with all the debuffs on you.
In Cataclysm, this guy has been set as a beast and made tameable as a core hound. Given his apparent ancestry (he seems to be the result of an experiment to mix dragonflight genes into a core hound or related beast), it makes as much sense as him being dragonkin.
now TAMEABLE OH F***
I just tamed him myself with help from a couple of great guildies. =)
Unfortunately BWL isnt Soloable since the very first boss needs atleast 2 ppl to do the mechanics 3 if you want a healer.
so hope you all have some of those (guildies/friends) in handy xD
Tamed tonight during an impromptu guild BWL run, and added a screenshot of my catch :)
So indeed, it's tamable, as long as you have help to get to it - mechanics make it impossible to solo the first boss, and very difficult to solo the second. It's a good night for those involved though - plenty of gold to go around, and some nice vanity gear.
Sadly, unlike the old days of The Beast, the Level ? (Skull) classification no longer carries through taming.
As of the Shattering, Chromaggus is now tamable by BM hunters.
You're probably going to need some help, considering he's the second to last Boss. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to solo BWL. As an incentive for tagging along, they can also get the Achievement for clearing the instance.
You may want some HoTs/Shields before engaging him. He hits pretty hard, even considering faster tame.
He has a unique skin and sound. Good luck. :)
I tamed him yesterday afternoon with some buddies. We 3 manned it and skipped the two bosses before Chromaggus. Tame was pretty easy at level 80, don't think he damaged me that much. It was kinda funny to be able to tame a raid boss that I've wiped on a many of times in classic 40 man raiding.
The only issue was the suppression room and the slowing effect. We didn't have a rogue and had to suffer through that. They should turn those effects off already.
Does anyone know if taming him means you can't acces Nefarian in that lockout? Seeing as killing him opens the gates and all
Tamed him late last night. Me & 4 other Guildies went in who didn't have the achievement yet. Figured might as well get it since he is second to last boss. I didn't really know what to expect from BWL since it was my first time in there. First attempt when I tried taming Chrom was that it ended up switching from me to another member of the group so then he started ignoring my taming attempts. Then he put a buff on me that turned me into this monster & caused me to turn on the rest of my party group. I ended up killing everyone at that point & had to wait 4 minutes for buff to remove so I could move again. At that point I thought I was going to die cause everyone was still running back in. Well... buff wore off & I started taming. I was able to get it tamed with about 20% heath left. But was worth it! Now every time I am in a major cities I get a ton of whispers from people asking me where I got it. LOL! Starting to get a bit annoying though. Good luck all!
To tame him, it seems that the hunter taming him needs to have aggro, otherwise the taming will keep getting interrupted after 1 second of channeling.
Yes, basic taming 101. You need the have full aggro the entire time taming him. To counter healers helping you out and their aggro, blast your target with a few heavy aggro shots. I hit him with a focus bar of arcane shots before I tamed him. Also have your healers watch their threat as if they pull aggro you have to regain aggro to tame the mob.
This is a very easy tame imho
Get a Priest (Level 80 and geared)
Make sure your stacked on haste
Have the priest shield you
and tame if you do it correctly he should only get one shot in. For me that shot was around Two Thousand to Ten Thousand. (Sorry my one key is broken so if I hit the One key it resets the page :/)
Good luck and happy hunting
so, a bunch of us got a crazy idea, we would all go as lvl 80 hunters and 3-man BWL to get this guy as a pet.
We facerolled 3 or 4 times on the first boss, because we didn't know the fight. "yay we killed the boss, OMG we are all dead!"
after three or four more painful boss encounters, we grabbed a boomkin, and swapped out for a pally and priest alt.
got to the part where those pylon things slow you to 20% move speed, got to the next boss; wipe. ran through that painful area again. cleared another boss or two; wipe.
finally, got to chromaggus. our hunter friend ... *gah* forgot to dismiss his pet and switch from MM to beastmaster. not knowing what to do, the rest of us died while I tried to heal up the hunter as he feigned death...
then the hunter got turned into a dragonoid...
yeah. he was parked under chromaggus with a 5 minute debuff. the boss didn't do anything with him, he was just stuck there until the debuff wore off. this entire time we were in vent, and at that point we were discussing what to do. he let the debuff wear off just to get turned to a dragonkin again. by the time we got back he finally got killed by the boss.
the boomkin tried to rez the hunter out from under chromaggus. she got too close and aggroed chromy. she ran down the stairs and died. the hunter of course died. i was to the end of the 20% movement crawl when chromy came down and lit me up. our pally friend was another 5 or 10 minutes behind in the crawl.
so we scraped ourselves back together. expecting this to be an insane battle just to tame the damn thing, all three of us (priest, pally, drood) went to healing spec. the hunter started working his magic, and just like nothing he won chromaggus over as a pet. very... what's the word, anticlimactic.
so, confirmed as of 4.0.3a you can tame this bad boy. for craps and giggles we challenged nefarion. we do get the sweet fake-heroism buff when the hunter pops it. crazy fight but somehow we beat it.
so, moral of the story, if you want this guy, bring friends, and be ready to tank the floor.
Just tamed him on Altar of Storms...I believe server first. However it was a rough fight and here are some tricks to help you tame him successfully.
1) Have a Shaman with you just in case your first attempt goes bad...they can help you recover from the wipe.
2) Make sure to bring some guildies...I did the clear including the last boss with six other guildies and it went smooth.
3)Bring haste food and pots to help tame faster...the opening to the fight is your one shot make it count!
4) Earth shield and priest shield help a ton...now he doesnt do his first ability until about 15 seconds in...if you miss your immidiate opening to tame him at the start of the fight it may be too late...wipe it and start over.
Last tip....DO NOT have anyone heal you unless it is absolutely necessary...they have the chance to pull aggro and wipe the attempt...In my second attempt I took shields and HOT's then used distracting shot as my pull to offset the initial heal aggro.
Good luck guys!
Altar of Storms
Well, we all have our BWL stories, and those about taming this best-look-ingame pet.....
Getting a grp for BWL after Ingots lost most of their value was hard. On my server we have way too many lvl 60's only(get your own server damnit) and they are usually the only ones who go to BWL, so joining one of their grps excludes taming him-they want the loot.
So, when our guild had nothing to do, we went, 7ppl; 5 would have been enough. First boss just bugged out a few times, been awhile since I have seen this.
Rest was cake.
Now taming Chromaggus.....easiest tame ever
. 1 distract shot, tame and done. Nothing special to it :)
I had expected something similar to The Beast in UBRS, but no, Chromaggus was gentle as a kitten :)
Edit nov 30th
Chromaggus seems to bug at times, he does not always want to attack bosses. His animation is on a loop, all pets are, but at the end of his animation cycle, he has a "glitch". Minor bug, but looks odd. Sent a GM ticket, maybe it will get fixed
Can now be tamed by a Beast Mastery hunter.
You can tame him now wich you probaly need 3 healers or more since hes a boss and not an 62 elite from Molten Core
Got him today with the help of some guildies, was able to 4-man BWL as a whole - all of us 80s. Awesome pet, except he still has the THUMP THUMP THUMP sound every time he takes a step. Can get annoying.
Niaka of Draenor tamed him today. We cleared all the bosses up to Chromaggus.
After a few tries, our strategy was having a discipline priest shield her, had her pull and then he healed with Holy Nova (since Holy Nova creates 0 threat). Had zero problems and tamed him on the first try with that strategy.
Credit for the strategy goes to Suljin of Draenor.
And yes, we did kill Nefarian after.
Tamed on a level 71 with no issues. Had a resto shaman earth shield and riptide me and I stayed in his room alone and pulled the lever.
Do you have to be level 80 to tame him, or is it enough to simply have the Beast Mastery talent? Wasn't sure becuase he's level ?.
I just got him tonight, was a little scary but had some cleansers to get the debuffs off. Overall wasn't too bad as long as you have people ready to cleanse... and an earthshield is great! =0)
Does anyone know what level he becomes once tamed? Is it 3 levels below you, or different because he's a skull?
Tamed him recently, and I'm pretty sure this is a bug, but whenever he attacks, his sounds can be heard across the zone. Had mine attack a critter in Org and got quite a few whispers to "Shut him up." Apparently another hunter on my server had him attacking critters left and right the night before so people would hear him roaring everywhere. Also got a few amused and annoyed whispers from people while questing with him in Deepholme. Hope this bug is fixed.
For those attempting to tame him here is the method I used on my 71 hunter which made it quite trivial.
Get a group of 3-4 players to clear your way up to Chromaggus. Make sure you have a Paladin and at least one other person who can res with you, and bring some
Potions of Speed
Once you get to Chromaggus, have everybody except you and the Paladin log out. This serves two purposes: 1) It gives you a handy wipe recovery without having to run all the way back; 2) It ensures there are only two available targets on Chromie's threat list setting us up for the following clever trick I thought up.
Pull Chromie and build up as much threat as you can in the first couple GCDs. Once you've got a threat lead (or need heals), drink your potion and start channeling
At the same time, have the Paladin cast
. This will make him immune from all damage for 8 seconds, thus temporarily removing the Paladin from Chromie's threat list and ensuring the boss is focused on you (as you are the only valid target left).
With the Potion of Speed buff your Tame Beast channel will drop to 7.7 seconds (or lower if you have more haste effects on) which is ever so slightly shorter than the duration of the Paladin's bubble. While channeling the Paladin can heal away on you without worry of pulling healing aggro.
The first time I tried to tame him I could not keep aggro on him. The Tame Beast channel is interrupted if your target is no longer targetting you so this was a problem. I then tried this method and tamed him on the first try!
try to tame chormaggus till 85, i tried at lvl 70 and he kicked the stuffing out of me when the tame bar was at half way mark. so 85 would work greatly!
To solo Cromag is not a hard task at all. You will however need the help of at least two guild members for the first fight. If you do not know the first fight I suggest you look into a walkthrough before hand to save time and repair cost.
I had a Shaman and a Paladin help me out with the first fight. The job of these two is to just kill adds and you should only need about 10 to 15 min of their time. There will be to many adds for one person to take on so just be safe and use two. Your job should be to work the Orb and MC the boss to kill the eggs. Remember to dismiss your pet for this as you can not work the orb with a pet summoned. Once all the eggs are destroyed kill the boss and you’re done and the guild members can go home. The rest you can do on your own as an 85 hunter.
From here you should really know your way around BWL to make this an easy Solo. If you don’t I suggest you do your homework to make things easy.
The boss in the next room your can skip. Don’t attempt to solo him because you will fail. You will then come to a room with a big group of mobs. You can skip these guys as well but I killed them just to test out my tanking pet Terrorpene. Test passed and I win. You will then come to the suppression room. Just work your way past this killing what ever comes at you. You and your pet will work anything in this room without a problem.
As you work your way up you will come to the next boss fight which you will need to kill this boss to get passed the gate. No worries though. Just pull out your pet and let him hold all the agro so you can light this boss up. Shouldn’t give you any problems but there are going to be drakes in the room that will continue to respawn until the boss is dead. (note: the suppressions are a pain)
The next room will have Firemaw who pats around. You can skip him or solo him. If you want to solo him you will need to clear the room. Know this fight or don’t try it. Firemaw will kill you if you don’t know what to do.
If you skip him you can just walk from here to cromags gate (skipping the next mobs and 2 bosses) where three bad guys are. Just walk into the gate room and kill the mob just to have a clean area for the tame. Once they are dead open the gate and Tame away. I used BW during the tame but found that it wasn’t really needed. The new tame times make it to quick for Cromag to do any real damage. He will Dot you with a 5 min dot that will stack and tick every three seconds.
This was a fun tame and the result is an amazing looking pet. I hope this helps and good hunting.

Jan 19 2011.
I claim first training of this pet on Umzem my troll huntard. Within 1 hour I was back in Org and several people began gathering of their own accord asking where the hell I got him. Never seen another of him in my travels so I'm staking first claim on Amun'Thul Hordeside. Sadly most people didn't even know what 'UBRS' was.
Went and got the white core from the Alliance area shortly after. Named himScruffy. My kids will be elated since he looks like a 2 headed version of our own Scruffy :)
Oh and for any trying this, don't need to be 85 but make sure you have the health for a bit of a kick around. Umzem is 82.
Skipped through the drakes with feign death, used my ape as a distraction on the 3 guards by Chromaggus, ran past, let ape die and feigned. That is when things went pear shaped. I screwed up....BADLY. My ape had died and wasn't dismissed. I pulled lever to release him, attempted tame....and it was a no go. Thankfully I'm an optimist and looked for something anything I could use while I feigned and regained all my health. If you pull the lever and fail to tame as I did he will not go back in his cage but stay in the lever room in the exact center. I noted a very very slight outcropping of stone in his opposing doorway.
At full health I hopped up and figured it was the best I could do so backed in there with him attacking until my feign cd popped and used it. You will take a huge beating doing this so recovery took awhile. At full health I knew I had to try and stood up. He didn't aggro! There was just enough space on that stone doorframe he didn't get los on me. I revived pet, dismissed, sidestepped and tamed. BANG! DONE!
It is an epic pet all the more because I made such a noob mistake after 6 years of play and figured a way out of it.
GOT HIM! :) He looks almost cooler than Loque'nahak. Maybe this will stop me from constantly hunting Loque? ... nah. I'm a total huntard >_< Anyway...
I got a guild group together (for the achievement too) and the officer I asked about Chromaggus said yes, I can tame him. Gets rid of a boss quickly, yes?
So, after all the hilarity that led to us getting to him, I ran in to tame... and the mage started dpsing. /facepalm time! Apparently he can't read or hear anything. We had said several times "Do not do ANYTHING. Cyr is going to get rid of this boss for us quickly." That was a total disaster. Everyone died.
Next time, same thing. -.-
Finally, we leave the mage dead and they tell me to go ahead. Priest gives me shield. I got him. Then we rezzed the mage.
I went to Stormwind shortly after finishing the place. I got about five whispers about where I got him, is he rare, am I a GM, did I hack the game to get him, etc. I messed with so many people's heads then... That was hilarious.
not true, u dont HAVE TO WAIT TILL 85 OR ELSE. just did this at 82. 39k hp. he got me down to maybe 30k if that. tame was an 8.4 sec cast. i would say as long as u have 15k hp u should be fine. so probably lvl 78+ assuming he doesnt hit harder on a 78 than an 82, which i highly highly doubt. or make it easy and bring someone to through 1 or 2 heals on u.
I just tamed Chromaggus on Azuremyst. We two-manned the instance downing every boss.. 2 level 85 hunters. Aside from the first boss being annoying without a healer, the rest was smooth sailing. Glyph of Misdirection is massively handy on that first boss.
As a further insult to injury, Chromaggus tanked Nefarion... he only took 187334 damage total the whole Nefarion fight. Never even really saw a dent in his health bar and never used mend pet at all.
Very cool pet and a must have for BM collectors :)
Helped a friend get this last night. Two hunters, shaman and deathknight (me). Like someone else said, it's basically a faceroll up to him. The 'hardest' fight is the first simply because you can't just smoke the boss. After that, it's just one continual pull.
I will note one nasty side effect of the suppression room on death knights. The suppression affects rune cooldowns BIGTIME. It posed no threat but was very annoying to have all my abilities greyed out for about 75% of those two rooms. I think it slows them by 400%? I would just guess it took about 30-40 seconds for each one to reset. Argh! :)
razor it still totally doable, just gotta get some aggo on him in between orb casts
I had the same problem myself just now and reported the bug to blizzard, we tried various tactics - swapped people when MC ended, making sure people/adds were attacking Razorgore and it just still randomly blew up everyone killing us.
Hope its fixed soon
Popping Ancient Hysteria with 23% haste from my gear let me complete the tame before I lost even a fourth of my health
how on earth can you pop Ancient Hysteria while taming? >.<
Hey kids! Want to solo Chromaggus and you aren't a Cleansing Class?
1. Kill the mobs before the Drakes and get
to remove the Bronze Affliction.
2. Clear a path to Chromaggus
3. Head to LBRS and kill all the spiders and pick up
to remove the Green Affliction.
These only last an hour, so that's why you clear to Chromaggus 1st.
4. Keep an eye on your afflictions and remove them when required.
Killed him as 85 Fury Warrior.
Chromie very fun tame be well prepared!
1. Bring haste potions, haste trinks, haste food. Just for precaution.
2. Bring a extra corehound pet reason because of spell Ancient Hysteria gives faster spell casting thus faster tame.
3. Should be attuned to instance alright if you are not but it helps. At least read up on first fight.(Biggie if you want to get past 1st boss.)
4. Should have maybe 3-5 people I prefer a healer and have 1 plate weaer to dps/tank.
5. Be lv 85 and have good amount of health 80K is decent.(just helps)
6. Collect "Hourglass sand" to remove a debuff
you happen to pull and tame while a fight if u get all 3 debuffs you turn to a powerful monster that wipes youre raid.
7. Before tame eat your food equip your items and drink that potion of speed pop BW(some do) and ancient hysteria(45 sec duration) then get close keep mouse on tame...possibly make macro if you are slow.
8. Like I said read up if you want this great looking pet read on Razorgore fight sense people who have not ran this mostly wipe on it I easily 3 man it with heals and 2 dps preferabally 85's. Rest bosses pretty easy except for chromie need good heals unless you are taming which you probabally are reading this guide.
MY TAME: Been attuned for while my pally friend healer wanted help me get I inv a DK to tank and hunter to dps. Got past razorgore easy and all bosses getting gold having fun then when getting to Chromaggnus the hunter opens the gate and tries taming knowing that I was wanting to tame and agreed that I would and while tame the hunter taming/DK attacking Chromaggnus gets kicked for not listening plus they died and I got the debuff after the long debuff wears off I had to at least try to tame nearly died but got debuff one more time. After that debuff I popped potion and got the tame I happend to be only person in raid group my paladin friend who healed logged but was still in the party and kicking 2 other people who did not listen.
Point is have trustworthy people in your raid group or it will be a bad day.
Hope hunters and people reading like my guide and story. (^.^)V
Just tamed him. Bring at least 2 people, preferably 3. Hopefully you read up on the fights in BWL, especially Razorgore. You'll spend most of your night trying to get past him because the orb is kind of bugged and its just a hard fight in general.
Once you get to Chromaggus it's easy to just pull the lever and tame him. Be warned that taming him counts as a kill, and nobody will be able to loot him.
ZOMG ITS FKING TAMBLE A HUNTER"S DREAM PET!
How to Solo in Cataclysm:
Tamed a few days ago on Velen. Ran Blackwing Lair with 4 85's. A Death Knight, Mage, Priest, and Hunter. The only trouble we had was a few glitches with the first boss, where he would evade a Mage's attacks when trying to get aggro on him. This glitch is easily fixed by keeping him in combat at all times. Right before the Mind Control wore off, we dropped a Death and Decay under him, this fixed the problem.
Once we got to Chromaggus, I switched from 85 Death Knight to my 69 Hunter. I went into their instance lock, had the Disc Priest bubble me up to 50k, had an 85 pull the lever, then started my tame. Took no damage, and the tame took the same time as all other tames.
Just tamed him :)
I bringd 2 druids and 1 warrior since i had no core hound before i used poition of speed and elexir of speed only casted tame beast in 7 seconds :) I named him chrommie
Tamed him tonight with my 69 hunter alt - I was determined to make him the first exotic pet I snagged.
Went in with a handful of helpful 85 guildmates, cleared up to Chromie, and had the priest Power Word: Shield me before I started. Didn't lose a single point of health before the tame was done. Very easy, all things considered, and he's hands down my favorite pet. Such a killer model and Ancient Hysteria is great.
Just tamed yesterday, March 27, so I can confirm he's still tameable as of patch 4.0.6..Pretty beast looking pet, and it's even better simply because you'll probably never meet anyone else with it. Named him Bayne.
Edit: I managed to find out what patch it was by looking 2 posts up :).
Recently tamed him with help from my guild. Easy :)
But noticed that the ancient hysteria spell effect is not working correctly, specifically the red glow that appears on other core hounds' horns are appearing inside his mouths instead (simply lower than on other core hounds), and I only saw this by chance.
I made a ticket and it seems to be news to Blizzard. Guess not enough people have him as a pet for it to have been noticed yet, so i thought i'd post it here too :)
OK, super-frustrated. Went through, had a couple guildies with us who wanted the achieve. Suppression room sucks, yes, agreed.
Went in, got all the way through the tame channel. I was the only one pulling any aggro, and I swear he shrunk down and made the little sound effect a pet makes when it's tamed. Then, all of a sudden, he is enormous again and bolts down the stairs into the room where my shammy hubby is fighting trash. Seriously, seriously not cool.
Next time we went in, Mage got confused and pulled. I said, "If taming him failed, THEN we could kill him." ARGH!
Didn't want to go through the suppression room again, so we finished up for the Classic Raider achieve...
OK, rant over. But seriously, has this happened to anyone else? I know I had him tamed...
I was on my 77 hunter at the time that I tamed him. At first I was grouped with someone on my DK to clear everything up to Chromaggus. Then I logged back on the hunter and took a few tries to get him because at 77, he hits pretty hard. After a few trial and errors, I had about 15000 and change HP and the hunter I was with hit hysteria and gave me gift of naaru and I shot Chromaggus once or twice to keep aggro on him, because I was killed a couple attempts earlier because gift of naaru pulled aggro. Anyways, as a noob hunter, I also was looking for my tame button for like one or two seconds. At the end, I found it, clicked tame and wow... it was down to the wire. I tamed it and he took a last swing at me and I died. But hey, I got him at the end, and that is all that matters. Lol.
What would be great would be for tips and strategies on how to solo this guy on a class such as a hunter as opposed to all the countless posts which basically say the same thing about taming him.
Jhiaxuz, read the post by jazman84.
However, there is no way to get to him solo; you need to have more characters than one on the first Boss (Razorgore). One player that is a very good multiboxer and knows how can do it - but one character can't.
Therefore, the number of people that have actually soloed Chromaggus is very small indeed, since no one besides a multiboxer gets there alone. That means you are pretty much going to have to figure out the details for yourself. But isn't that where the real fun is anyway?
If you are level 69-72 and wish to tame this beast, read up here (some extra info).
As level 71 I had 9,8k health (quest items geared) with Kings buff. I went in with a feral druid and ret paladin (both 85) to kill adds and bosses up to Chrommy. I used the speed potion described earlier to get to a 7.5 seconds Tame cast total with some haste on my gear.
First try I thought I could tame it without problems and survive, but I was wrong. He hit fast enough that in the last second of the tame I died, which created a problem:
The room where you pull Chrommaggus is not sealed of as you would expect from a raid boss (sealing off the chamber). He will walk straigth to your groupmembers and for what we noticed, he doesn't reset, even if you walk back all the way (bug?). They had to die so we could try again. I thought the boss would reset once I died so I could get a rezz... wrong :) I learned the hard way.
Tried the Paladin bubble tip mentioned earlier and worked like a charm.
Take a Paladin/Priest with you for shield/bubble healing or make sure you have at least 12-14k hp (with the speedbuff). I hope this helps for the lower level Hunters willing to take this beauty :)
There's is a little known issue, but one confirmed by several GM's I have had the chance to get responses from. If you are using a pet that was tamed from a raid-boss such as Chromaggus within the new Zul'Gurrub, your group will eventually be stuck in combat.
Once it has occurred, you cannot fix it by swapping pets, you cannot fix it by dying and re-entering the instance, you cannot fix it by restarting WoW.
If you die and cannot recieve a battle-rez, when you attempt to re-enter the instance, you are either hard logged off immediately by WoW or you simply are put outside the instance alive. At this moment, I cannot recall the message you recieve when you try to re-enter, but it refers to comabt still going on inside.
The most recent GM suggested don't use Princess Huhuran and dont' use Chromaggus. It isn't the pet type, it is where the pet is from. In this case, old world raid bosses. Tempted to tame Magmadar from Molten Core to see if he bugs out ZG too.
Tamed earlier today with two experienced BWL players. No guildie would do it, so I offered a guy in trade and his friend 1K each and they took me the whole way. Also, very nice people. Tame wasn't hard but make sure you take all the aggro on you because you won't be able to tame him otherwise (kept interrupting my tame). Chromaggus is a very unique and nice looking pet. Didn't have any problem at the start. I'm pretty sure a priest and a warrior were with me.
As of 4.1, he's still tameable.
It took two Shammys and one Hunter, but I got him on Daggerspine US, 5/24/11.
Best looking Core Hound in the game. No questions asked.
It's true. We got locked into combat in ZA during the trash run to the Dragonhawk. Was pretty sure it was me because it did the same thing in the BWL that I tamed him.
Also, this can affect cata dungeons as well. I was in one and the rogue began complaining about not being able to stealth because we were stuck in combat. However, once I put out a new pet, this stopped. The game was still glitched though in that he had tried to teleport out and back in once we were out of combat, but it said we were already engaged in a battle or something. And so we all tried teleporting out and it wouldn't let us back in. Couldn't finish dungeon. So, a message to all hunters...be aware of your pet here and what it can do. I hope they fix this.
maybe this is dumb to mention....
you have to be Beast Mastery. Me not realizing this tried to tame him being Marksmanship.
How I dual box through BWL with my warrior and priest. (ilvls ~353)
Razorgore the Untamed:
The key here is to not waste time with Razorgores "destroy eggs" ability, it has a seven second cooldown so use it as soon as it comes off cooldown. Have the warrior pick up the adds from the orb platform and the priest immediately MC Razorgore and destroy the first egg, then kill the adds and warrior moves to the middle of the room. So long as the warrior is around the middle area (the big square between the two platforms) the adds will ignore the player on the orb and attack the warrior in the middle.
Clear out the eggs on Razors platform first, you want to keep him in the middle of the room with the warrior so the adds can be picked up more easily.
This is multitask heavy: Kill egg, move razor to next egg while "destroy egg" is on cooldown, tab to warrior, pickup/kill adds, tab back to razor to kill next egg, rinse and repeat.
Make sure you have plenty of time remaining on the MC before killing the adds on the orb platform, if it breaks while he is there he may destroy the orb and wipe the encounter.
Vaelastrasz the Corrupt
Nothing special here, go dps and nuke the hell out of him - with two toons it should not be all that difficult. You simply have to kill him before Burning Adrenaline kills you.
Tank n spank, keep your back to the door so he doesn't knock you into the adds.
Tank n spank, but kill him quickly.
This guy is tricky. Warrior as tank, priest as dps. Ebonrok will periodically put a debuff on the current target that heals him for 25,000 every time he hits that target - needless to say unless your dps is godly you will have to target swap each time this happens. Here's how to do it.
Have your tank stand with his back to the wall up where Ebonrok patrols, have the priest stand about 30 yards away from the tank - the priest will open up as dps until Ebonrok puts the debuff on the priest, the warrior then taunts but
DOES NOT ATTACK
Ebonrok - this is important. Ebonrok will go to the warrior and and begin attacking him - all you want to do is pull Ebonrok off the priest long enough for the debuff to drop off. If the priest resumes attacking as soon as Ebonrok is over at the warrior he should surpass the warriors threat and Ebonrok will return to the priest right about the time the debuff is put on the warrior.
In this way Ebonrok will not hit the target with the debuff to heal himself, or no more than a couple of swings.
Keep Power Word:Shield up on tank at all times, Ebonrok won't heal as no damage is done. If you don't have a priest, use the above method.
Tank n spank.
Another somewhat tricky fight, firstly make sure both toons have ample amounts of Hourglass Sand to remove Brood Affliction: Bronze - if you have been killing the trash from Broodlord Lashlayer up to this point you will have plenty of it.
The key here is never let all five debuffs be up at once, as this will mind control your character - which will then kill your other character, and reset Chromaggus.
Keeping the priest out of LOS of Chromaggus does not appear to work anymore, they will still receive the debuffs. As soon as a debuff comes up that can be removed, remove it - except Brood Affliction: Red, multiple stacks of this makes it pretty much impossible to keep off and keep dps up on your warrior so concentrate on keeping Brood Afflictions: Blue, and Bronze off your toons and keep dpsing - red will eventually start to hurt a lot so kill Chromaggus as soon as possible but ALWAYS make sure to keep those debuffs off.
Tank n spank, use the alcove* to channel all the adds into one place for easy pickup.
Make sure your priest is close to your warrior so he doesn't get smashed by the adds later in the fight, they can still kill clothies fairly quickly - even at 85.
*The alcove. When facing the throne turn 90 degrees to the right and you'll see a sort of short tunnel with rubble in it.
so everyone knows.
you can tame this at lvl 69 we just did by Blood lusting/heroism with healing stream and stone skin totem down. the hunter died as he was tamed but still ended up having it!
Just tamed on my lvl 72 hunter. Took three tries due to hard hits and a body pull (>.>) .. all in all.. totally worth it! Had a lovely mage with me for time warp and a haste pot.Just barely got it, had me down to very low health. Didn't think I would get it, but I did. :)
edit: I named him Suppression... that GD room is murder!
Tamed him solo as 85 hunter, just deterrence right before you start taming. This took no potions or heroism, and still ended with about 80% health
We three manned this, prot pally, mage and hunter. I wanted this as a pet so we decided to give it a go. Two of us were old school players from vanilla, so wasn't a real issue with knowing what we were doing. First boss is really the only hard part about this whole thing...it's just a matter of getting the eggs broke before you run out of time/life. The pally took care of that while the mage and I just kited crap, killing it as we drug it around. Don't focus on killing it directly...kite and drag it through traps or your aoe and that works just fine. Everything dies as you're running around like an idiot. :)
After that, we didn't find anything difficult at all. We got to the boss and for some reason he really didn't want to get off the tank . I had to hit into him hard along with a couple distracts to even get him to agro to me. After that, I tamed him with zero problems. Level 85s shouldn't have any issues getting him tamed, though make sure you have the powder or someone there to decurse you because your HP will slowly dwindle down and you'll die after tame.
Other than that, have fun. First boss is impossible to solo, but I think the rest may be doable though I have never tried it. Good luck and grats to those that get it for a pet....I get comments on him all the time, asking where I got him. Surprises me a bit how many get excited seeing him.
Fury Warrior solo
I am not Jazzman84 in an above post who handed out the strategy on the use of Anti- venom from LBRS
This this video is the result of his strategy put in motion by a lone anventurer looking for fortune in a long lost forggotten Stronghold
Hello! I am a level 70 twink hunter with 11k health... And I wish to tame this mob... Can any one give me the excact amount of how much he is hiting for? I dont want to wipe my whole raid if i fail at taming him xD
As a hunter that plays BM pvp and does bgs frequently(and the occasional arena), i must say this pet family is very situational. The lava breath debuff is only good when applied to casters, and ancient hysteria has saved my group a few times in AB, but short of that, I'd probably use a spirit beast or devilsaur for pvp.
That said, this is my favorite pet just due to the fact that it looks damn awesome looking. A crown jewel for any pet collector.
With transmog coming it's harder to find a group that will allow you to tame him since it forfeits loot and he drops many of the tier 2 shoulders which people now care about.
After having a group back out on their promise to let me tame him, I took it upon myself to just solo all of BWL the next week. Razorgore took me about 10 tries til I perfected the disengage to balcony exploit. Everything else is mindless tank and spank except Ebonroc which requires a lot of distracting shot use. Taming Chromie is mindless. He hits for like 1600 and does nothing special during the tame to interrupt. Razorgore is the blockade.
I tamed him on a level 70 hunter that I'm using as a semi-twink. It wasn't a particularly easy tame either, since even at 10 levels on Chromaggus and heroic TBC gear he still hits mail like a truck. It took about five or six tries to get it right since I didn't have the services of a paladin as RabbleRouser suggested.
What I did was took an 85 discipline priest with me to help with the tame. Before even throwing the switch and setting Chromaggus loose I threw a snake trap and immolation trap on the floor in front of me and had the priest cast Power World: Shield on me. As soon as the priest threw the switch to open the door and chromaggus walked far enough to become a target i spammed as many Arcane shots at him as possible to get some aggro and popped a haste trinket to speed up the tame. The arcane shots and the traps seemed to have generated enough aggro to not pull Chromaggus off me when the priest dropped a renew on me while I was taming him. Even with that level 85 renew I was still at about a third of my life when the tame finished, but the important thing is that it finished and I now have the most awesome corehound in the game as a pet.
Ah, how many memories of this boss!
Gave me so much luck on my mage for teir 2 :D So gonna tame this on my Night elf!
I just figured out another way to successfully solo Chromaggus.
First - obtain some
Second - approach Chromaggus in normal way - pull out your strongest CD at the begining - to hit him as hard as possible. Watch your debuffs - as soon as u get the
- use the
. Next wait for 4 debuffs to be active on you then quickly use
. By the time you would get all debuffs again - Chromaggus should be pretty much dead. I haven't tried the
Immature Venom Sac
due to lack of time (I playing at work :P) - but adding this - should turn killing Chromaggus into walk in the park :)
I did twice already with my 85 lev Unholy DK - in an average ilvl 373 gear
It's not that hrd to solo this boss, well at least for a prot pally. I did it when i was at 365 ilvl gear, and it took me around 9min and maybe 20 hourglass sands to down him, especially since my holy damage didnt really affect him-_- had to rely a lot on crusader strike damage, other than that i kept cleansing as much as possible to remove the poison and reducing the fire debuff damage, which i believe was a disease (correct me if i'm wrong), but with enough patience and hourglass sands he should be easy to down as he doesnt do as much damage as i was expecting.
I just tamed this guy on my level 76 hunter about 10 minutes ago, it was awesome!
Edit: I did this all by myself for the most part, i did have kings buff though. No heals or anything else except my other core hound for the buff.
Just tamed it on my hunter lvl 71!:D it's very easy to get as i went there with a shaman and a holy pally. I had the holy pally stack his heals on me before we start that way i had a free absorbing shield and we lust right before i start the fight. I used distracting shot on him to have aggro and pally used bubble to get out of aggro table and be able to heal me for a couple of seconds. Tamed with lust and potion of speed, that made it really easy and got it first shot without loosing a single hp. Great skin and gret pet to have!
As a hunter pet, he does not have any type of sound effects.
Having issues with this boss? Have a Hunter?
Was having some issues duo-ing this dungeon literally 2 minutes ago. Curious, I checked the beast lore. Tameable! after 1 wipe/control I tamed him and the door opened.
Instant bypass to this annoying fight. He hasn't respawned and now I have a tiny reminder of Chromaggus that looks a lot cooler than Corehounds.
Hope this helps some of you going for the Guild cheeve.
Just solo tamed this guy on Alonsus. Easy tame. Am lvl 85...gear lvl 389. He barely knocked me back during tame. I didn't lay any traps either.
When you tame Chromaggus as a hunter he has all the same spells as any other Core Hound pet including Ancient Hysteria. And as he's a Core Hound you need to be Beast Mastery specced to tame him.
At level 85 the damage he does is negligible and you can solo tame him with no help or speed buffs etc. However if you're a lower level you might want to take along a healer and some speed pots/pop Ancient Hysteria on a regular CH then dismiss him while the buff is still up (haven't tested it myself but you should retain the buff as you keep it even when your CH dies) so you can tame Chromaggus quickly.
Chromagus was a PITA to tame.I was unlucky enough to get hard mode Chromaagus(breath attack) so took like 5 attempts to get a tame off without getting stunned by Time Lapse and Brood Affliction:Bronze
tamed this guy for myself earlier today
guild was going for the achieve so I tagged along with my hunter alt when we got to this point they all just stood back and let me walk in open his cage and tame away.
I then reserved many a whisper asking about him when I went back to Org.
Word of warning if you're planning on soloing this guy with one dispel, during the course of a time lapse stun he can apply both the bronze debuff and the one you're capable of dispelling so its worthwhile bringing a pvp trinket.
I coaxed my bf into 2m'ing BWL tonight... We wiped several times before him finally telling me to take the mobs and I did.
He was so annoyed that alot of the hunter gear dropped tonight because I never get that lucky lol.
So when we got to Chromaggus, I reminded him I was taming him. I winded up taming him :D
I've been wanting him ever since I found out he was tamable...he's sexy looking :D
What I need to see, instead of...tamed him tamed him...is a few more good ideas on how to get passed those 5 buffs he gives you to buy myself a little more time to kill him. I can use Purification potion, but is there anything else I can use?
A quick note to all warrior's out there, If you are having trouble doing this Arms or protection (SOLO THAT IS ) spec fury , no matter what gear you have, you really need bloodthirst !
my new best friend, i call her Chromindy XD
My friend (a paladin tank) and myself (a demonology warlock) two manned Chromaggus. We got him down to 10%, then I got Mind Controlled. I killed my friend and it was only myself and my felguard alive. My felguard was tanking the boss, while I was trying to kill it. Fortunately, due to
, my pet refused to die and was constantly being healed to full. Chromaggus died and I reverted to my usual Blood Elf self. Happy days were had.
No dramas soloing as a Ret Pally. Cleanse as your mana allows, and bubble off all the debuffs if you get oom and behind.
iLvL 395 Rogue solo'd him only using Cloak of Shadows and Hourglass sand. I used recuperate when I was low on HP and Evasion when he was down to 600k.
I think I got lucky, he cast his Bronze afflcition 5 times in a row.
It was a close fight though. I had 4 of the debuffs and I felt like I killed him with only 3-4 seconds to spare before his 5th debuff.
I tamed this guy at gear level 312 shortly after hitting 85 on my hunter alt. I did all of BWL solo, including soloing Razorgore at the start using the disengage onto the ledge technique as shown here:
Great pet, only silent Core Hound in the game (the rest all make a burning and growling noise which gets tiresome after a while) which makes him a great tame. Very unique and beautiful skin, and I'm starting to get recognised in random 5 man dungeons because of him :D
This is because not many hunters out there have this guy atm, which makes him even rarer than the Molten Front rares like Skarr etc.
Very much worth the trouble to get him, even solo, as the above technique takes a while to get executed properly. Stick with it though, he's gorgeous!
SO for those who were curious about taming this awesome beast here's a small guide for taming him. Disclaimer: This guide will NOT explain how to get to him, just to tame him.
What you will need:
Core Hound pet
Strongest Haste Potion you can use
Knowledge in Macros
Glyph of Tame Beast
Paladin (optional healing - use
on self before healing)
1. Use your keybinding that opens your Macro window
2. Create a new macro with the commands /cast Ancient Hysteria /cast Dismiss Pet
(One is a pet move and the other is a hunter move = two different cooldowns)
3. Close the window, and make sure you tame/switch out a core hound into your team.
4. Open the glyph window and check your Minor Glyphs to see if you have Glyph of Tame Beast. If not, find a Inscriptionist or check the AH for one.
5. Make room for the glyph on your active glyph board. (I guess this is "optional" but do you really want to not take off 4 seconds from Tame Beast?)
6. Go to your second action bar (Shift-2 can get you there faster)
7. Set-Up action bar in this order:
1Macro 2Haste Potion 3Tame Beast
Make sure you have your gear ON. I don't care if someone says, take off your gear so you don't have to worry about the repair price, you'll want it on since you are taming a raid boss. Other than that, the taming process is as simple as 1-2-3. Since Crommie is a boss, normal taming methods like freezing trap and concussion shot won't work on him.
Here is how long this will take at level 69:
Tame Beast (10 seconds) + Glyph of Tame Beast (-4 seconds) + Ancient Hysteria (+30% casting speed) +
(+3% casting speed) = 4.074 second cast
Questions? Just reply below!
Got lucky on this guy, all I did was stand in front of him and hit the tame beast button. No Buffs aside from Trueshot Aura and Aspect of the Iron Hawk, Gear is level for Theramore's Fall which I ran after getting him.
He might be kicked out of Dalaran before MoP even launches, Hes had 53 rabbits and 7 squirrels for dinner this evening.
For those having trouble taming him, worry no more: Patch 5.1 will introduce a BOATLOAD of rare tameables, one being a core hound with Chromaggus's model named Chrominius. He will patrol on that outer ring inside Blackrock mountain.
Edit: The rare has been renamed to Chromehound.
Edit 2: Chrominius is now the name of a mini pet he will drop in the next patch.
Hi, I was wondering is there a way to make him growl, roar and/or howl instead of just throughing his heads back and yawning with boardum, I think that realy whould make him the BOSS. Silly I know but I'd like it :)
As of Patch 5.1 Chromaggus has the chance to drop a
which teaches you how to summon Chrominius, a small version of Chromaggus.
Got him tonight as a pet - but now gonna have to run BWL for the whistle... He'd make a sick lookin' Battle Pet!
Pretty easy to tame at lvl 90. Just get aggro - tame - and bam!
I like that they took out the loud thunderstomp from them walking around all the time...
Pretty easy tame at level 90. I hit deterrence, and then tame beast. No glyph, nothing special.
I named her Maggy.
Soloed as a Level 90 Fury Warrior ilvl 460.
Before engaging I knew about the MC due to having all the afflictions, but decided to wing the fight anyways. Popped Avatar, Recklessness, my Engineering Synapse Springs for the extra 1920 Strength. By the time he cast 3 of his afflictions on me, he was dead.
Due to it being patch day, most add-on's don't work, so no recount for my DPS or DBM to know how fast he died. It was quite quick, under 24 seconds (Avatar now lasts 24 seconds, it was still active when he died). Which means I was somewhere around 62,500 DPS give or take. Not terribly hard to achieve in burst at 90 and higher ilvls.
Solo'd this as a poorly geared 90 guardian druid :D Took a few times as I just ignored the debuffs and my dps isn't very good.
I'd say on a dps class you could get him down very easily and quickly without and need for sand or venom sacks.
As of 5.1.0, it's still entirely possible to get mutated while soloing if you don't kill him fast enough. And now I get to sit around doing nothing for the next five minutes...
Ever had trouble getting a raid group to tame Chromaggus? Well, now you don't need to! There is a new type of Corehound with the same type of skin. It is called Chromehound. He wanders in a circle on the ledges around Blackrock mountain. He is rare,so you will need lots of patience to track him down. I tamed Chromehound 10 min after i got in (renamed Chro). GL to all hunters wanting to tame it!
P.S. If your inside BWL with a group (or without a group) leave it and then leave BWL. Then go back out and wait a couple min (hours, days,or weeks) until it spawns. A little more easy then a Chromaggus tame. He's just smaller and lvl 49. (you must be lvl 69 or up with beast mastery to tame though)
Pretty easy to solo. Pretty much tank n spank and use the hourglass sand whenever you get the bronze debuff on you.
The first time I did it, I didn't use the sand so I ended up getting morphed for 5 minutes and then the boss just reset. I didn't die or anything.
Soloed on a 90 Unholy DK. The second time I just popped AoD (to make it quick) and used the sand maybe once or twice.
Fire Mage (90 ilvl 470)
Easy enough fight, just a pain when he doesnt become susceptible to fire. Keep an eye on the debuff and switch spell classes as soon as one becomes available. Otherwise tried to keep him dotted.
He hit some kind of enrage timer but it didnt really hurt, attack speed was increased etc.
Kept ice barrier up, refreshed it past its CD time. Just a long fight if he doesnt pick your school of magic.
Edit: Ice Block at the end of the fight to remove debuffs.
90 BM Hunter taming Chromaggus.
Aggro, pop deterrence, start taming. No glyph of Tame beast.
Really awesome looking pet!
Demo warlocks, pop meta form on this fight, even if you only have 200 or so fury. Touch of Chaos counts as, not surprisingly, chaos damage, which is considered all schools of magic damage. This allows it to bypass Chromaggus's magic resistance, whatever it may be, and allows you to benefit from whatever magic weakness he may suffer from as well. I ended up killing him with four casts with Dark Soul popped with a mere 455 item level.
i always wanted this corehound and finally got him tonight! woot lol
Just got this sexy guy 2 days ago & a friend traded Chrominius to me so I could match! Really awesome looking pet!
*At lvl 90, I just tamed away. He barely took any of my health. No need for popping deterrence or any traps.
solo as a paladin is 2ez
Has anybody had any issues soloing this guy in 5.2? pre-5.2 I could walk in and smear his face all over the floor with my shadow priest. Now I can't even get him to 50% before getting mutated.
Killed last night as a lvl 85 fury warrior.
The afflictions do hit alarmingly fast; took only a few seconds before being mutated. Being a night elf I was able to use Shadowmeld after the first mutation wore off to end the fight. Then came here.
As noted by traconis (comment date: 2011/11/24) Hourglass Sand drops from the mobs in this instance and it does indead remove the Bronze affliction every time. As I did a full clear, I had a stack of about 50 by the time I reached this boss. I linked it to my action bar and used it whenever the Bronze Affliction showed up. I don't remmember if I ended the fight with 3 afflictions or 4 on me, there might be a delay between getting all five and being mutated in which you can remmove Bronze and prevent it. Anyway I killed him easily after employing this without being mutated.
let me tell you a story about a paladin i used to know, that in the lich king tanked this thing, we had no idea of how to dispell those debuff, when the boss had around 100k left everybudy was dead, except for that paladin, he was standing there all alone fighting that beast with all the debuffs and nobudy could help him, well he somehow killed that thing all by himself and then started to resurrect everybudy, you may think this is a made up story but i was there and i couldn't believe it ether even when i saw that with my own eyes, that paladin i consider him a legend.... (during lich king expansion)
Soloed this with my 85 DK in blood spec. My gear consists of Jade Forest greens and auction house blues. It was basically a tank and spank just make sure you have some Hourglass Sand to dispel Brood Affliction: Bronze. I only needed one. You might need more depending on your DPS.
Here's the video:
Just solo'd Chromaggus as Boomkin, had problems with bronze buff popping last...
ended up using Remove Corruption to avoid Chromatic Mutation and easily downed him,
gotta love Druids :D
Just soloed him as a lvl 90 Blood Death Knight, and the only challenging thing to it was I had to watch for the bronze debuff, and the second it appeared, I r-clicked on an Hourglass Sand to remove it. All the stuff on this page helped a lot!
I tried him with the Felguard out. Fail, transformed.
I tried him with the Felhunter (dog). Fail, transformed.
So I tried him with my favorite, the Voidwalker.
Bam. Down within 50 seconds.
Can someone explain how did I 1 shot this boss with a 1 427 245 (Critical) Chaos Wave?
I simply used my cooldowns.
After successfully claiming
on my 90s Death Knight which rushed through this Raid in a breeze I decided to do so as well for my 85 Warrior with the help of my 90 Warlock.
So I started "bursting" down
with my Warlock which probably took way too much time thus causing the
with me barely downing him to 60%.
Slightly annoyed I decided to take the slow step and do this with my 85 Priest, which at least could dispel one debuff, so I logged into my him, hauled my ass over to BWL, through most of the Instance, including the highly annoying speed Gauntlet before
and finally reaching
already awaiting me.
Prepared for a really long fight I downed him in like 5sec.
Talking about a huge letdown.
I burned him down in about 10 seconds on my 90 demonology warlock. I got the movement debuff but just waited until it fell off. But I got Chrominius so it was worth it.
back in vanilla, we actually one-shotted this boss the first time we got to him. Call it luck I guess, because when we got to him the week after, it wasn't as simple hehe.
anyways, now I think I'll go tame this beast on my 90 hunter :)
Solo'd just now as a 90 Warrior, just popped all cd's and killed in about 10 secs. 100+k dps should do. No more need for cleansing items and whatnot!
If you're a hunter and want this pet but can't solo tame for some reason, there is a level 49 rare version called chromehound that circles the path in blackrock mountain.
As of Patch 6.0.3, the only way to obtain, red, blue and green dragonscales. Sunken Temple has 0.07% chance drop of green, so all scale recipes now practically defunct, except those using Black Dragon Scales. Something to with the lore I'm sure.
My guild pulled Chromaggus across half the instance back to Broodlord Lashlayer's room to fight him, always a lucky hunter with a remote controlled pet. A very fun boss once you knew what you were doing.
Since Warlords of Draenor, skinning Chromaggus is the ONLY source of
, and the only practical source of
(the only other source is a very small chance to skin from a very rare mob in Winterspring). Get ready for a months-long grind (or very steep AH prices) if you want to craft any old recipes with those.
As of 7.3.5, as far as I can tell, he will no longer drop shoulders for whatever class you're playing as when you solo him. He will only drop shoulders for the wrong classes.
EDIT: Never mind. He is still capable of dropping the correct shoulders; they just have an absurdly, stupidly low drop rate
The coloured scales won't be skinned unless your skinning is max classic level (300). I didn't realise this until I got to him with my demon hunter and only got two
Have anyone managed to get
from him? I've been killing him for last several months with all my 12 characters every week and I haven't seen any of these items from him ONCE. Is it just the worst drop rate in whole game, bug or something else? More than that, Bulwarks drop from him every three - four times, despite the fact that they're supposedly the rarest items from him. I haven't seen such a bad drop rate in WoW ever.
I found this in the ATT (All The Things) addon change log today.
"Good news, everyone! It has only been 3 days since our last release (4/7), which marked some Chromaggus and Gruul loot as Unobtainable and reports have started flooding in today (4/10) of the items we marked on Chromaggus as Unobtainable dropping once again! Rejoice! Someone was paying attention on the Blizzard Development Team! As such, we have removed the Unobtainable filters from all of the recently confirmed items.
Happy Collecting! - Crieve
PS: Blizzard, while on the subject of Unobtainable items, can you guys please please please fix Ebonsteel Spaulders on General Angerforge in BRD and the Fluctuating Cloak from Tendris in Dire Maul? We've had these items marked Unobtainable since 7.3.5 and nothing has been done to fix them yet. :)"
After that i went down to test it and looted
... with my warrior. :S after 400+ kill. :S
But hey there is a chance Blizz really fixed the loot table what the legacy loot system messed up. :)
Edit1: mage drop
. 4/7 fixed loot. :D
Edit2: 3rd run (also mage)
. 5/7 fixed loot. Progress. :)
Edit3: take 27 run to see all of them once (
) 7/7 fixed loot. :D Thx Blizz.
