* Impending Doom: AoE Magic De-buff much like call of the grave. 10 seconds to dispell everyone possible, or they receive an instant 2000~ damage.
* Lucifron's Curse: This curse will increase mana/rage/energy cost of all abilitys by 100%
* Lucifron's adds also have a spell called Dominate Mind, much like a Priest version of Mind Control. This can be dispelled by a Priest's dispel, but CANNOT be dispelled by a Paladin's cleanse since it only works on friendly targets. For Horde, Shamans are able to Purge this if a Priest is not able to.
Main tank will take position at the upper right side of the small spikes in the ground, with a small group of supporting casters who can decurse/dispel/heal and support the main tank till the two adds are taken care of. You should designate a mage to decurse all members of the Main Tanking party.
The two adds should be pulled by two Hunters with distract shot, followed up by two Warriors pulling agro from the hunters, and off tanking them back in the very very back of the cave. Priests should be dispelling the Dominate Mind, and have everyone focus fire on one add, take it down, then the next.
Once Lucifron's two adds are down the raid party should focus on Lucifron. All paladins and mages should be using the CTraid Auto-Decurse to remove the Impending Doom and Lucifron's Curse so that it does not affect the raid.
I can also add that when the two hunters pull him the MT who is tanking Lucifron should NOT try to pull him off to the side using his ranged weapon, that has a chance to miss. Instead run up and start wailing on him, slowly moving him over to the side. That way there's less of a chance for Lucifron to charge blindly into the raid and kill everyone.
Avoid an early mind control: Try not to be the first person to aggro the pack (Lurcifron and friends). Also, do not create AoE aggro. Taunt Lucifron as he runs in. This will allow those with higher aggro on the gaurds to become mind controlled. It's better to not have Lucifron running around rampant.
With the recent decursive nerf, new guilds trying to take down luci will need to assign dispellers and decursers to certain groups to prevent being overwhelmed in debuffs.
Try to get the MT to have his back towards the raid, so that healers can be as far away from Luci as possible but still be able to heal MT. That way they won't get cursed or debuffed.
Key Needs of this battle: mages and priests for DEMAGIC
suggested that you get yourself a decursive mod if you are a mage or priest.
Keep ATLEAST one MAIN tank on lucifron, with one offtank for each guard.
DPS Guards first, and try to take them down asap.
As soon as guards go down, dps lucifron. Keep in mind that mages will not be doing full dps, but rather decursing, as well as priests with demagic and healing, however healing should be a priority on the main tank.
Enjoy gloves and boots =)
How much gold does Luci drop?
With WoTKL dawning nearer, it does make you wonder whether or not it will be possible to 3 man bosses such as Lucifron in the near future. Would be rather humorous, from 40-man to 3-man. :)
an obvious reference to Lucifer
soloed as a 70 resto druid 3.0.3 patch in gull bt gear. glpyh of moonfire for a massive dot and frenzed regen for extra hot healing when i got low. by the time i kill the first add the second was at 70% from thorns lucifron was at 90% when i finally got to him. fight took about 26 minutes. stats are 1300 spell power 1024 mp5 not casting 600 mp5 casting 12800 mana 9k life. in retrospect, with the recent buff to thorns from the wotlk patch my thorns hits for 100 and with mark of the wild up i have virtually a 100% chance to resist there mind control and they hit for so little i could have completely ignored the adds. also i didnt have to potion.
i basicly just let moonfire roll on one add for full duration and kept 1 life bloom and 1 rejuv on me (9 second life bloom 15 second rejuv and 15 second moonfire dot take alot of stress off mana) would fight there damage off for awhile. with that going it took them about 3 minutes to get me to 20ish% and with that i popped barkskin rolled full hots and bear formed and frenze regened back to full. when i got to lucifon just wrathed him down.
can wait to see how fast i can do it at 80. i have my sights set on a 1 man rag ^_^ seeing as i got rag down to 77% by myself and died to sons(first 2 that died killed my mana) i think i can handle it at 80. if that works ill have a video for the world. i would record me soloing lucy and mag but after watching a warlock solo hydros in ssc i figured people would say its not an TBC boss gtfo
If attempting to do Lucifron with only a few players, here are a couple notes:
- The additional mobs will try to Dominate Mind anyone who isn't the main tank. This is basically always resisted at level 80.
- If you have a mage or druid with you, make sure they decurse the healer at the very least.
Solo'ed as 80 DK on EU-Eitrigg just a few minutes ago ^^
Solo'd as 80 prot paladin. Not hard at all.
Main spec is Ret, so my prot gear is made up of mostly quest blues and a few things I picked up in heroics that the tanks didn't need.
Shadow resist aura, dispel impending doom, focus only on Luci, mana not an issue with the adds hitting you. He runs out of mana fast, and will stop shadow shocking when OOM.
Only 20 reputation for Waterlords on level 80.
Just did this as an 80 tri-spec DK with a few mid 70 guildie friends. As of the current patch, the debuff that is applied during the fight can actually make DK DPS go absolutely through the roof. Seems the way it affects the Rune and Runic Power system is bugged. As a Deathknight, once the debuff is applied to you, you will quickly run out of Runic Power, rendering all abilities that rely on it nul. At the same time, Rune regeneration is made instantaneous, meaning runes instantly return to usable after burning them. Wish I was unholy spec'd during this, something about spamming Scourge Strike with no cost seems fun. For added damage, swap over to Unholy Presence and you'll be able to spam attacks almost instantly over and over.
I'm sure it will eventually be patched, but as of now its been confirmed with 2 DK's.
For all the old schoolers out there like me, soloed today lvl 80 prot pally with blues and greens. Good to be able to go back and see some of the good old stuff like mc and zg.
Yes I was readin up on the boss and was a little nervous at his 350k hp, although after eading the comments I do believe I may be able to solo him. It is definatly worth a shot. 80 Prot Paladin, I'm after getting full Lawbringer just for looks. I'll get back to you on how it turns out.
There was a bug pre 3.0.3 that made it so his curse didn't affect DKs (it increased runic cost but removed the cooldown on our runes) making him very easy to solo. This has been fixed now :( and all the abilities that cost runes now cost 2x as many as intended. This makes soloing him quite a pain in the ass as a dps spec.
Was still able to kill him as unholly 17/0/54 but i had to use my AotD at the start and try to burn one of his add down. Was able to heal over the rest of his damage. Also death pact crit for 14k heal... helped a lot.
Tough for me to solo as a feral druid in entry level, level 80 epics. A case of getting rid of the adds fast and then keeping myself up with the occasional barkskin/dispel/heal. Got it done third try.
As a warlock, every boss of Molten Core has been soloed by
of Whisperwind. There is a guide
, done by aPedestrian himself.
First defeated by Conquest of Kilrogg (Alliance) on the 20th of January, 2005.
Lucifron makes his triumphant return as a boss in the Trail of Champions!
He can be summoned while fighting
Argent Confessor Paletress
This can be soloed by a level 80 Feral Druid (Tank)
36567 Health Points
37,67 % Dodge
5079 Attack Power
6,50 % Expertise
38,42 % Crit
Did it wedhout going out of form for decursing, you gotta deal with the 100 % ability cost, eles your dead otherwice, ended at 9k hp.
Got him down first try, hope this inspire some Feral Druids :) Good luck
Very easy as blood dk; the 100% ability cost hurts a little but it is a little bugged: every time I used pestilence it refreshed all my death immeadiately, and other abilities that used unholy/frost runes always converted them to death runes. I was using glyph of disease, waited till all runes came off cooldown, then death strike->pestilence (it refreshed the 4 runes I used for death strike)->death strike again.
Believe it or not, just soloed him as an 80 prot *warrior*. It was a very, VERY, close fight (had less than 800 health when he died -- got him down from 8k to dead with a lucky crit -- and still had the adds to deal with).
Armory of my toon is
but no doubt this will change over time for viewers reading this comment in the future, so the important stats I had at the time:
31.2k health unbuffed (used C. Shout to bump it up to 33.4k)
41% dodge/parry combined
26 expertise (6.50%)
Weapon enchant: Blood Draining (say what you want about it in Ulduar where bosses hit for 15k, but when it comes to old content it's a godsend)
It's a hard DPS race, as Shadow Shock (which ignores Spell Reflection) WILL bring you down eventually since deep prot doesn't have Bloodthirst. I downed him at around the 2:30 mark, and I guess that (un)lucky RNG fluctuation could probably push that result in either direction if I was to try again. I blew a Runic Healing Potion, Gift of the Naaru (wouldn't have been possible without it) and a Charged Crystal Focus (bring one!)
Very satisfying fight overall, gives you a real rush when you only just win, but don't be surprised if you die a few times, as this was my second attempt (had him at 2% the first time and I didn't have the Charged Crystal Focus). My advice would be to blow Shield Wall, and cooldowns in general, very early. Ignore the adds until the end, as this fight epitomizes the phrase "kill him before he kills you."
Why is a naga in the molten core?it makes no sense they are water creatures!
Be wary, as a DK,
you will not gain runic power
at all when using any skill (consuming runes or simply the Horn) while under the Lucifron's curse.
Soloed as a level 80 affliction warlock, 52/19/0 specced.
Use your voidwalker to tank, switch between boss and both adds so he gets a solid aggro on all of them. Put up CoW on all three of them. After that just dot up the adds and drain until they are dead, keeping an eye on threat at all times (use soulshatter as often as you can). After they're both dead do the same with the boss.
All in all, pretty easy fight.
How to solo MC as a prot/ret paladin
Even if your gear isn't perfect (like mine), you should be able to solo everything... except Gehennas. What my pally is wearing is a mix of blue (crafted) PvP and epic PvP gear. My 2H weapon is also blue.
For prot spec it's the same gear plus
Titansteel Shield Wall
with Titanium Shield Spike.
As you can see - it's nothing special, but enough to make MC soloing easy as pie.
: Very easy fight as prot. You should focus on him. His two adds will die sooner or later. Mana/life won't be a problem with three mobs on you. Use SoL/JoL, Ret Aura and keep SS up.
Before pulling him, clear 1 pack of corehounds. Remember that they all have to die at the same time or very close to each other.
Difficulty: 1/5 (~12-15 minutes)
: Clear two (or more) packs before him. I'm too lazy so I always do just one pack, but it's better to be safe than sorry - right?
Easy, but long and annoying fight. He fears you every couple of seconds (15-20?). And that's your only problem here. Other than that it's all about keeping your SS up and hitting him as hard as you can while you can.
After each fear make sure you're standing in the back of his cave or you'll be feared into the corehound pack(s).
Use SoL/JoL, FR Aura and prepare for very long and boring fight.
Difficulty: 1/5 (~20-25 minutes)
: Unless you're in great gear and very lucky, bring a friend - druid or shaman. This fight is hard and I hate running back, so I always do it last with my shammy friend. All you really need is decursing and you'll be able to kill him as ret in 8 minutes.
Keep SS up, SoC and JoL, SR Aura.
Difficulty: 5/5 (solo) or 1/5 with decursing friend
: Another easy, but long and boring fight. Not as annoying as Mag, but still pretty boring.
Go as prot. He will dispell most of your buffs so don't bother. I'm not even recasting Sanc, it's a waste of time and mana.
Use Ret Aura, SoL/JoL, keep SS up and kill all adds one by one. You can keep one or two alive for procs and switch to Garr if you want, but they will die soon anyway. After that it gets pretty boring so pull some lava guys or core hounds if you want or just go afk for 15-18 minutes.
Difficulty: 1/5 (~20-25 minutes)
: I have some green/blue mix of FR gear for this fight. It's all from AH, mostly mail and two plate pieces. With Lesser Flask of Resistance and FR aura, it's 399 Fire resistance. More than enough.
Before pulling him, clear two lava packs. They're super easy I'm always pulling them together.
Once cleared, switch to Ret for this fight. Use FR Aura and FR gear (aim for 300 FR with gear, aura and flask). This fight is fun and challenging, but not too hard if you know what to do.
Pull him back into the tunnel, so you won't take huge fall damage. He casts annoying Bomb spell on you every couple of seconds.
There are two main things to remember here:
Mana burn the second it's on you or die;
from his hellfire ... or die;
Yes, you will resist most of his hellfire damage, but it goes up every tick - e.g. 1st is 80 (300 resisted), 2nd is 150 (500 resisted)... and before you know it, it's 3600, 4000...
Mana burn HURTS and KILLS. Cleansing is your main priority here. Also remember to recast your SS even BEFORE it expires.
How to fight him:
pull him back, hit him hard, run from his hellfire, bomb should be on you soon. Heal to full with instant FoL and hit him hard again. Make sure SS is up, save your instant heal ... explode, heal and hit him hard again while in the air, use instant heal again after landing. Drop Consecration and run from him if he's casting hellfire.
Always make sure your SS is up and cleanse mana burn. Use Divine Plea every time it's off cooldown.
Difficulty: 3/5 (~15-20 minutes)
: Very easy fight. Switch to prot or keep Ret if you feel brave. All you have to do is keeping your SS up and kill him when he stands. SoL, JoL, Ret Aura. Use FoL to heal ONLY if it's instant proc from AoW. Prot doesn't need any healing.
Difficulty: 1/5 (~12-18 minutes)
: Love this boss because of his loot table.
The fight is pretty easy and won't take long. Go prot, keep FR aura, SoL/JoL and SS up. Hit him hard while you can, mana/hp won't be a problem.
At 20 stacks of armor debuff, switch to one of his dogs, get back all your mana, wait till the debuff wears off and go back to Gol. Rinse and repeat.
Difficulty: 1/5 (~15-20 minutes)
: Another easy, but not boring fight. Go prot, keep Ret Aura, SoL/JoL and SS up. Focus on healers. Cleanse everything they cast on you and make sure they're always in front of you. Go crazy, cast everything you have incl. consecration.
You won't be killing them until they're OOM, but after that they'll drop like flies. Once they're all dead, kill Sulf, loot him and prepare for Domo.
Difficulty: 1/5 (~15-22 minutes)
: After all other bosses are down, Domo will spawn with 8 (i guess) adds. There's nothing special about this fight. Basically do the same as with Sulfuron. Focus on healers and then switch to his guards. You don't have to kill Domo. :)
Difficulty: 2/5 (~18-20 minutes)
: Bring two or three weapons, and prepare for long, long fight. Stay prot.
The biggest problem here is his knockback so make sure you will land on the big rock everyone's talking about. Or take around 12k dmg.
Keep FR Aura, Flask and FR gear. Use SoL/JoL and SS. Heal after each knockback to (almost) full. Try to hit him hard, always use everything off cooldown. Keep SS up.
Sons phase is easy and it's your chance to get to full HP/MP. You will love this phase. :)
If you don't feel like wasting your time here, bring a friend. One is more than enough. Shamans are great - basically anything ranged with some kind of healing.
Difficulty: 3/5 (~60-80 minutes solo // 15 mins with friend)
Just soloed quite easily as a Blood (DPS) DK in tanking gear and frost presence. Some general tips:
-You can leave the adds up if you want, or down them first. I downed them, as I prefer to eliminate bodies. But the incoming damage when all three were up was still laughable.
-You do NOT gain RP during this fight. Relying on Rune Strike (as I do) for the majority of your damage will not be a choice here.
-Even though abilities take up twice as many runes, I found a couple of instances where I immediately refreshed runes (glitch?). After using Heart Strike, all 4 death runes immediately refreshed. This enabled me to continually DS-HS-DS in 3 globals. Take advantage.
-Horn of Winter is an amazing ability for this fight. Despite not giving runic power, it does refresh your death runes; I used it solely to give me the runes I needed to pestilence, and then I used HS (which in turn allowed anothe immediate DS).
-Sadly, Blood Tap only refreshes 1 rune in this fight. Where it is typically a given to use it when soloing, for this fight it has no purpose.
Solod as an enhn shammy. The debuff doesnt really hurt all that bad because you can get a certain % of base mana on SS.
I killed adds first then got on luci. Used most maelstroms for healing and kept water shield up the whole time. Pretty easy fight...pop wolves whenever you get in a tight spot.
The hardest part is killing 2-3 of the packs of core hounds....its tough getting them all down at the same time. SS might crit and kill one of them....so go slow in terms of dmg. The stacking bleed hurts too but its survivable.
DK blood spec, heroics/ICC 10 gear, soloed easily but got some weird feedback with my runes and the curse. Well it was normal at start, used twice as much runes and runic powers per spell but later, I stopped getting any runic power, also my frost and unholy runes were death runes ALL the time. Next thing is that when my death runes were on cooldown and I used any other spell(like heart strike) they refreshed, So basically you can just spam heart strike all the time. Weird stuff, anyone else got that?
This fight seems nearly impossible as a Unholy DK, due to the strange behavior of his debuff. Death Strike gets a cooldown of ~10 sec or something. My DK was a pure DPS unholy spec, so I didn't have Rune Tap; this meant that eventually, even using every single cooldown (Bone Armor, IB, Death Pact, etc) I couldn't kill Luci before he killed me. I have 30k health in frost presence, but this was in PvP gear, if I had tanking gear it might have been easier.
I dunno. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong, but I really doubt it. I'll try again some other time as Blood.
Just soloed him as an enhancement shaman. Nothing special but don't use your pets (Fire Elemental, Earth Elemental, Ghost Wolves) as they or you could be mind controlled. The curse is nasty but not a great deal.
Tried to solo as a pretty geared DK and failed miserably.
Soloed this as a blood DK, anyway the curse that he does buggs ur death runes so they refresh all the time, that way u can spam heart strike untill u kill him. If u are unholy try using lesser flask of resistance and Drums of the wild that might help resist the curse.
Soloed as a rogue specced for dodge, Lifeward enchants on both weapons, and Corroded Skeleton Key. Did not use any buffs at all and ended the fight with 337 hp left. I'm sure the fight could go a lot better if you glyph for Preparation instead of Eviscerate like I did to help kill the adds with Blade Flurry.
Overall not bad, cloak his debuff when you can, use Ghostly Strike (Glyphed) > Evasion > Ghostly Strike > Trinket > etc. and he's not bad at all.
Soloed as ret paladin, very easy fight.
I have 4363GS all from HC's / ICC5 man.
Just clear 1 pack of core hounds before you pull the boss,
kill adds first 1 by 1 shouldn't take to long.
his decurse makes you go OOM fast but shouldnt be a problem as he hits about just as much as Hogger, it only makes the fight take longer.
I used devo auro and SoL/JoL combination.
Interestingly enough, with pallies getting holy power in 4.0.1, his curse actually DOUBLES holy power usage for skills that require it - never though an 5 year old ability would affect a new one (or at least I assumed it'll be buggy). It also has the side effect of making zealotry impossible to use (it doubles to 6 holy power to cast), all your templar's verdict/word of glory/etc only cast at 1 holy power strength but consumes 2 holy power, and basically you never being able to get anything stronger than a level 1 holy power ability (since you'll need 4 holy power to cast a level 2 ability).
Guides for how to solo MoltenCore. 1 hour, around 500gold.
Pop all your CDs and with a bit of luck you can kill him before he puts his annoying curse on you.
Among the ranks of the flamewakers, overseers and their guards constantly jockey for higher status among the hierarchy of elementals in hopes of gaining favor with Ragnaros. Lucifron is no exception. He has clashed with Gehennas on several occasions, particularly during their incarceration within the Elemental Plane. This rivalry has now extended to the Molten Core where Lucifron quietly waits for his opportunity to capitalize on any weakness shown by the other flamewakers.
Lucifron, and his two Flamewaker Protector guards, can be found watching over the enormous core hound Magmadar, favored pet of Ragnaros.
In what level should you be to solo him as a shadow priest.
We are here
for your praise
