Today's Race to World First action has been exciting! More Mythic bosses have fallen, with Liquid advancing to 6/8M and beginning progression on the penultimate boss, while Echo finally entered Mythic and made short work of the first 5 bosses to move into second place. In this Daily Recap video, Dratnos and Tettles take a look at the 6th and 7th bosses and also discuss the dynamics of the race in general now that we know more about how it's tuned.
Race to World First Stream
Kurog Grimtotem ended up taking Liquid a bit over 50 pulls, with much of that final progression being pushing the tight Enrage timer that the fight has for players that are still at around 400 item level. This encounter has one of the biggest dungeon journal entries of all time, due to each of the four elemental quadrants of the room essentially containing their own boss fight, which guilds need to pick and choose between to construct their own encounter. Precise positioning is also extremely important on mythic, as several of the mechanics will punish players that are even a few yards away from where they're supposed to be with death!
Broodkeeper Diurna is the next big question mark, with Liquid just beginning progression at the time of recording. Penultimate bosses have often drastically changed how a raid unfolds, with easy ones like Kel'thuzad or Stormwall Blockade often being a prerequisite for a Week 1 clear, while more challenging ones like Stone Legion Generals that soak hundreds of pulls often pushing the World First into the second reset.
Speaking of the Reset, Dratnos and Tettles now estimate that there's a 95% chance that we see the second reset this race, with much of the 5% requiring both Diurna and Raszageth to be quite undertuned or have a strategy that the developers did not anticipate that trivializes some or all of the fight. The second reset will come with a huge spike in gear, as Great Vaults, Mythic Farm, and surgical Heroic upgrades will all be available and won't take much time on Tuesday or Wednesday.
