user-submitted guides
on Wowhead, and although there are over 1500 guides published on the site right now, have you ever considered writing your own?
As a long-time writer of over two dozen guides, I've seen what works and what doesn't in the guide system. In this feature, selected impressive guides are being brought to your attention in a quick newsflash.

In this edition, we're featuring the "

. Keldesh has already been featured once in this article series, but has written many great guides so we wanted to highlight a different one!
Creating a Wowhead Guide
This guide takes a fresh look at how to write a guide on the site, from topic to tricks! Keldesh has done a wonderful job at walking readers through how to create a guide of their own.
Let's take a closer look at the guide:
Keldesh starts readers off with a brief introduction to writing guides, and an apology for how much text there is (but that is the nature of the beast in this case!).
There is so much information to contend with on the topic of creating your own guide, so it's not surprising that there are multiple resources out there for what to do. Keldesh's approach discusses what a guide writer can expect as they move through the process of designing, writing, submitting, and having a guide on Wowhead. A lot of first-time guide writers don't know what to expect, so guides fall through the cracks, never getting published on the site because the guide writer loses focus or faith halfway through writing the guide, or simply forgets to hit submit when it's completed! Some guide writers forget to address feedback before publication (from one of the site personnel), leaving the guide in an almost-complete state but missing some crucial information or formatting that keeps it from being published.

), I took a code-heavy approach to what users might need to know. Keldesh, on the other hand, gives amazing advice on designing and planning one's own guide, as well as a great discussion on how to address feedback and follow-up with one's guide. Take, for instance, the image on the left, which I pulled from the guide. Here Keldesh shows one of the best pieces of advice I could ever give - to sketch out what one wants their guide to look like, with notations about content and features. Bringing the guide out of the abstract and onto the page allows a guide writer to better visualize what it is they're trying to achieve in code. It also grants a lot of assistance with things like tables, which grow horizontally and can be confusing when the content is vertically organized. In fact, asking for a sketch of the guide section is exactly what I ask for when someone reaches out to me for assistance with their own guide, to ensure that the help I provide is accurate!
This guide is comprehensive and well-organized, as well as exceptional in its advice - I could truly go on and on about how wonderful it is to the aspiring guide writer, but one thing is for sure: I'm sure I would have used it more heavily in my starting years, had it been available then!
