Hearthstone Characters Cariel Roame and A.F. Kay Spotted in The Waking Shores

As development on Dragonflight continues, we are seeing more and more Hearthstone characters coming to WoW's upcoming expansion! Cariel Roame and A.F. Kay can be found in the Waking Shores, this week's available Alpha test zone.
Together with the addition of Rafaam
, a total of three Hearthstone-exclusive characters have been added to Dragonflight.
Who Is Cariel Roame?
In 2021's Year of the Gryphon, Cariel joined Hearthstone as part of the Mercenaries, a group of ten adventurers who told the year-long narrative of Warcraft's classical faction conflict.

Cariel preparing shipments in the Explorer's League camp northeast of the Waking Shores
As of now, we don't know what Cariel's role in Dragonflight's storyline will be. She can be found in the Alliance's starting camp of the Waking Shores, preparing what looks like shipments of the Explorer's League. Looking at the extremely popular Mercenaries storyline of Hearthstone, it would be no surprise to see other Alliance mercenaries like the gnome rogue

Who Is A.F. Kay?
A.F. Kay is a playable hero in Hearthstone's Battlegrounds
game mode. Once an utterly useless card in a single-player mission back in 2017, this character has been the personification of the AFK (away from keyboard) abbreviation in WoW gaming. Her card art shows a careless female human mage peacefully consuming her own summoned cupcakes while one of her raid members is getting blasted by
Sindragosa
in the background.
When Battlegrounds was released back in 2019, A.F. Kay was part of the original hero line-up. Fitting the general theme of the card, her Hero Power "Procrastinate" forced players to skip their first two turns. In return, they would be able too freely discover two Tavern Tier 3 minions on turn 3. In the first few months of Battlegrounds' shaky meta, A.F. Kay was one of the strongest hero choices because she could find high-impact Tier 3 minions like

or
Soul Juggler
very early in the game.
In Dragonflight,
A.F. Kay
randomly lies by a small river between the Ruby Life Pools and the Obsidian Bulwark in the Waking Shores, staring at a gigantic cupcake. She's accompanied by a Zandalari cataloger called
Akunda
and
Gunner Fren
, a female Kul'Tiran guard. What role could Kay and her entourage play in Dragonflight's storyline? And why is she eating cupcakes in the middle of nowhere while being surrounded by raging elementals and flying dragons?!
