Following the events of the
Shadowlands epilogue
, several major NPCs have gossip conversation interactions. World of Warcraft Narrative Lead, Steve Danuser Tweeted an interesting tidbit.
Note that to talk to Sylvanas you have to do it before you complete the final judgement quest with Tyrande. Once she jumps there is no way to get her thoughts.
Story Spoilers Ahead.
Sylvanas
In Battle for Azeroth, Horde players could choose whether to stand by their Warchief, or express their dissatisfaction with her actions by siding with Saurfang and
泽坎
. For those who chose to oppose her she had these words.
Ah, <player>. Before I face the coming judgment, I would share words with you.
I was recently reminded that we cannot change the past. If you choose to hate me for the things I've done, I could not blame you for it.
But know this. We shared common cause once, and you have proven your dedication to the Horde time and again. I hope that you will continue to defend it, no matter what may come.
Those who stood by Sylvanas were treated to an acknowledgement of their loyalty.
<player>. It is fitting that we share a few final words here, as I stand upon the precipice of judgment.
You have shown me loyalty time and time again, even when others spurned you for it. Even when my own actions did not merit such dedication.
I'm not certain what fate awaits me. But if one day I have need of trusted allies, I know that I can call upon you.
This is likely just lip service - writing story elements that split a faction is incredibly difficult and resource consuming. That said, for those who gave their Warchief and Queen their loyalty this is a very welcome and appreciated gesture. Maybe the story team will find a way to put this hook to good use another day.
The Alliance, of course, had no such opportunity. Sylvanas seems resigned and the fury that drove her against the Alliance and the living humans seems to have dissipated. Perhaps a separate gossip for Night Elf players would have been interesting, but really there is nothing she could say that could appease anyone. This is probably the appropriate decision.
Ah, <player>. You have little reason to listen to my words, but I offer them nonetheless.
Nothing I can say or do can change what I have done. My judgement is at hand, and I accept whatever comes.
In life, I fought to protect my home. It is good that Azeroth has you and your allies to defend her.
Farewell.
Anduin
The difference between Anduin's Horde and Alliance gossips is subtle. Both look forward to what is next, but the Alliance version is appropriately more personal with an implied call to action.
The shadow of the things I've seen... what the Jailer forced me to do... hangs over me.
For the part you played in setting me free, I'll always be grateful.
But I cannot pretend that I can simply go back to being the person I was. I need... time.
I must ask more of you. The Alliance will need your dedication, now more than ever.
No doubt the Horde will rely upon your courage in the days ahead. Defend Azeroth, <player>. No matter what comes.
Greymane
Greymane has particular reason to mistrust Sylvanas and the Horde--having lost two homes, Gilneas and Darnassus, and his son due to her actions--and his gossips reflect that. Of course he has absolutely no idea how she really felt about the murder of his son, a small fact that we learn in the novel,
Sylvanas
. Likely that knowledge would not influence his feelings, however.
I will never forgive the Banshee for what she did to Teldrassil. Or Gilneas.
Or my son.
<Greymane clenches his fist.>
But for now, our focus must turn to Anduin. He will need our help to recover from what he's endured.
While Greymane stands by Anduin now, it seems that Anduin will likely step back and allow Turalyon to lead the Alliance in his absence. If Turalyon uses that opportunity to strike back at the Horde, Greymane will likely be on board. This echo of the Thrall/Garrosh debacle will be very interesting to watch, should it come to pass.
I refuse to believe that your fallen Warchief feels even the slightest remorse for her crimes.
When will she answer for what she did to my people? To my son?
<Greymane clenches his fist.>
You have much to answer for as well.
While the details of 10.0 remain under wraps for now, the hints dropped in these faction specific dialogues suggest that all will not be roses for the Horde and Alliance going forward, despite the announced opportunities for cross-faction play.
