interviewed Jeremy "Muffins" Feasel on secrets, battle pets, and Island Expeditions!

As Muffinus played a large role in the creation of secrets of Legion, it was naturally the first topic discussed in the interview. More secrets are on the way in Patch 8.0! He also loves the feeling of seeing a community team work together, hanging out on their new mounts. The team also spent a lot of effort on localization, making sure the clues could be solved in all languages.
Feasel: We have a couple of really cool things in 8.0. One of them is of mind-melting difficulty. We definitely learned a lot from all the things we did at Legion, and players gave us a lot of really interesting ideas when they were coming up with, "Well, maybe it's this. Well, maybe it's this." They even came up with some things that were meaner than things I think we would do. But they gave us a lot of great ideas.

Feasel: There you go. We thought that was a cool section of the game, but we recognized that there was an element of lost momentum there, where you got to watch other people finish the chain without you. We're going to try and do a better job this time of keeping everybody together, so we all have that great celebration moment at the end.

Battle Pet improvements were also discussed. There are many more battle pets to collect, interesting mechanics on boss pets, and new pet charms. There is also new technology for Battle Pet World Quests, where they scale off your highest battle pet.
As the expansion goes on, expect to see more-creative types of Battle Pet content, not to mention more battle pet dungeons and Raiding with Leashes achievements.
There's a couple of them in hidden locations that you'll have to figure out, or that require coming together with a variety of different players and consumables in order to unlock that particular pet. We threw a couple of those in there because we think they're fun and awesome.
Newman: Like the Sun Darter Hatchling pet challenge up in Winterspring now?
Feasel: Yeah. Similar to that. The larger, overarching pet battle quest line is one thing that you'll see more of as we move into 8.1 and later patches.

The interview concluded with a discussion of Island Expeditions, a new type of content in Battle for Azeroth. There are many types of island variations, with changing maps, challenges, and enemy NPCs. There are hundreds of possible rewards, like crabs wielding bottles, pirate outfits, and mounts!
Muffinus also touched upon the mechanics of Island--they are role-agonistic scenarios for three players, completed quickly, with interesting gameplay interactions due to unique purchasable consumables and buffs on the islands.
There are four difficulties on Island Expeditions--Normal, Heroic, Mythic....and PvP.
On PvP islands the creatures are a little bit more of a heroic level of power, but they scale more closely with your player power. This creates a more consistent tuning feel for both you and your opponent. The island doesn't get very easy over time, however, PvP just by virtue of its nature is also over-rewarded. We know that it's going to be an awesome way to play island expeditions. It's probably going to be the most difficult too.
