PC Gamer
launched a series of documentaries about "the tall tales & legends of PC gaming." The first episode tells the story of Angwe, World of Warcraft's first and best known serial killer.
PC Gamer tracked down the player behind Angwe who talked about how and why he effectively shut down Menethil Harbour for months. But the story didn't just take place in-game. Angwe also talks about his website where he posted his trophies, the messages and tells from angry and frustrated players. This episode is a fascinating look into the thoughts and motivations of a troll, griefer, ganker, pranker - whatever you want to call him. On one hand he was making the game hugely frustrating for anyone looking to travel from Menethil Harbour, but on the other he was a player on a pvp server playing a game that allowed the killing of other player characters, and he was reveling in it.
For 4 months in 2005 World of Warcraft became a hunting ground. At this time, Angwe parked his character at Menethil Harbour and he killed everyone that tried to get on a boat! If you were playing World of Warcraft at this time and headed to Menethil Harbour, then it was very likely that you would have met a gruesome end at hands of Angwe!
Killing upwards of 10 people a day, Angwe claims to have killed over 10,000 people in the game and for this episode of Tales From The Hard Drive we tracked him down!
