This minipet had its name changed - it used to be the "Maine Coon."
评论来自
Arideni
Correct.
The pet's original name for the first approx. year, was Maine Coon, however the pet actually looks nothing like a maine coon and it is rumored certain people were "offended" by the name of the pet (a coon). Unfortunately, they are no longer sold for 100 gold+ but their 'companionship' is unmatched.
EDIT: While it is true a black tabby pattern can be found on some maine cats, the most common color of a maine coon is brown.

The sad thing about the name change is that the Maine Coon is so called due to the raccoon like rings on its tail. They are a beautiful breed.
*sighs*
Oh how I love the politically correct age we live in.

The 'summon' icon for the Black Tabby is unlike any of the other cat images. Rather than a small cage, it is a black silhouette of a cat sitting against a moon. Very Hallowe'en-ish.
EDIT: The icon is now shared by the
Feline Familiar
as well. Which is a *very* Hallowe'enish cat indeed!

As of patch 4.0.3a, this cat is a zone-wide drop in Hillsbrad Foothills and drops off various creatures all over the zone. The drop rate is likely the same as other zone-wide pets, 1 in 1000.

Wowhead drop chances were reset at Cata launch

i haven't done this personally, but i saw someone post this on the animal's page.
there is a pack of wild horses, where u can stand just barely southeast of the sludge fields and there will be a pack of 8 horses constantly running by every maybe 15 seconds. u can sit here and aoe them for awhile and get a ton of loots. i used this for my skinning and LW when it was a low level, but this could be used for this just as easily. i was with a friend who aoed for me while i looted and skinned. they came too fast for me to be able to loot and skin them all before the next group came.
great location to farm this, as well as helping a lowbie skinner or leather worker get mega fast levels. this way the corpses don't go to waste. ;)

Many of the comments here are outdated, so I thought I'd post my story and info for hopeful farmers.
I chose to grind the "Torn fin" murlocs on the shore of Hillsbrad. If you start at the Ruins of Southshore and follow the coast west until you hit the murloc-free dead end, you should kill easily 50+ murlocs per run. Everything is 1-shottable, so an entire run of that part of the coast should take about 10-15 minutes. By the time you hit the end, you can fly back to the start and everything should have respawned, which makes this area ideal for farming. While there weren't many questers around, there really isn't much competition due to respawn rates so I had no issues leaving a few groups for questers. It's definitely an ideal spot to farm.
I estimate that I killed close to 1000 murlocs before my cat dropped, and that was probably close to 5 hours of casual farming over 2 days (I stopped on the first night after "Small Barnacled Clam" began to look like "Cat Carrier: Black Tabby"). Rest assured I did offer the murlocs a peace treaty: hand over your cats and no one gets harmed. They refused, therefore slaughter ensued.
Good luck, kitty is certainly an adorable pet and well worth the time!

If you plan on straight farming this pet like I did, I would highly recommend farming the Sludge Fields, particularly the mob called Infected Sludge Guard. They have an incredibly fast respawn rate so you can farm a ton of them at once. Even though the drop rate is low on them you have a higher chance to find one because of how quickly they die/respawn. You can also farm a TON of wool cloth off of these (Which usually sells for high prices on most servers.)

To Horde Farmers:
I've been farming Stormpike Engineers on and off for the last 2 days. I estimate I've killed ~1500 so far, and averaging about a mob every 5 seconds between looting & killing.
Info on Farming the Engineers:
* They drop loads of cloth, often wool. I have gathered literally dozens of stacks and expect to make a great deal of gold from this.
* They respawn very very fast. You'll never be standing around waiting for respawns, and they sometimes bug out and instantly respawn.
* They are very slightly spread out, so you will spend about a third of your time moving between them, the rest killing & looting.
* If you want to farm these, bring EMPTY bags. The Engineers spawn in fixed locations and don't patrol, meaning that if you leave loot in them, you will be hard-pressed to sift new corpses out of the pile of leftovers.
* You will rarely (but it happens) need to adjust your camera downward to loot, as sometimes the siege engines, or perhaps their smoke, block targetting.
Sidenote: I know now what the above guy was talking about when he said that he farmed for so long that gray items began to look like the Black Tabby, lol.

For those with an AOE you can, level permitting, one-shot a group of 8
Wild Horses in Hillsbrad
. These have an immediate re-spawn rate. They have a counter-clockwise circular path that takes them approximately three minutes to complete.
The re-spawn point is approximately 47.12,50.41.
Notes:
For the skinner, these horses can provide a gold mine of Light and Medium leather.
If you let even one horse "escape" you will have to wait for it to travel the entire route. Unless you mount up and chase it down. (They travel right at the max land-mount speed so to catch up you'll have to be able to fly.)
For the skinner, you can AOE the heard at the spawn point and mass kill until you get enough horses that it will take you the three minutes to loot/skin.
For the non-skinner you might want to "back off" on every re-spawn so that you won't have a six-foot pile of horses to attempt to loot. (Especially if you loot all so that you don't have a pile of already looted horses to loot.)
Having a Traveler's Tundra Mammoth can come in extremely handy to unload your bags of the miscellaneous junk that piles up.
Knowing the path, you can adjust your kill zone to accommodate your looting/skinning time.
p.s. Keep an eye out for
Yetimus the Yeti Lord
- a wandering elite that shares part of the same path as the horses. From his loot table it doesn't appear that he drops the cat. (It could be that he can, but no one has had the drop counted by wowhead.)
Luck!
edited for spelling, etc.

If you have a lock, I'd suggest farming this with it. Get the addon LootFilter and just stand at the Wild Horse spawn point in hillsbrad foot hills. Killed over 3k horses in an hour. Gotta find a happy stopping point though, they start despawning before you can loot them all. I'm sure my cat was on one of the many that despawned :(

At the risk of getting flamed....today I went to Arathi to farm some light and medium leather that I needed for my lower lw....and I wasn't getting much light leather in Arathi, so I wandered over to Hillsbrad. I started killing the Vicious bears, then saw the Wild Horses. After about the 10th one, I saw this crate drop, not looking to see what it was. A few mins later I went and looked in my bag, and there was the Black Tabby! I almost had a fit! Today was my lucky day I guess, after coming here and seeing how rare of a drop rate it has.

Downloaded the addon "Rarity" to track my so-called progress on this. One character has 15,056 loots from Hillsbrad without the cat dropping. During that time, I have looted many items that are supposed to be more rare, including drops that showed up only once out of over 50,000 loots in wowhead stats. The cumulative chance of finding the cat for that character is now over 95%. I will come back and let you know if Rarity tops out at 99.99% or goes to 100% with enough attempts--sadly, I got it at 18,880 tries. I suppose it does eventually drop,

Farming this little black tabby kitty was one of the hardest and most mind numbing things I have done in wow yet to date. I was so tied of seeing that long train of dead horses. Ironically it was just after I decided to download the Rarity addon that I looted it, but I estimate it took me upwards 20k kills. Moral of the story - don't give up! Good luck with this little guy.

I was under the impression that this pet wasn't that rare. Tanking Dungeons and getting the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries, I had two drop from the bags. In one day. So either I'm so lucky it's stupid, or these are are closer to a 3% drop out of the bags rather then a .3%. Anyhow, farming dungeons for these bags definatly pays off.

So far a pain for me to farm. After this pet has been a zone drop, rater then a specifick mob drop the cat has been harder to get or i am just darn unlucky. Have killed all kind of mob. I'm at 11 007 kill and counting. Rarity say the likelihood are now at 88.94% :(
I notice Warcraft Pets updated this pet from droprate 1-1000 to 1-8000 :/
I talk to GM who say... "The kitty is indeed very rare and hard to get. But still obtainable"
Well, AH? Nope, more fun to get i by my self ;)
1 thing i know for sure, never to give up, next kill i am sure i get it ;)

Just confirming that the Wild Horses share zone/world drops.
After ~3300 horses, I got my Black Tabby, as well as:
* 1 Yorgen Bracers
* 2 Sentry Cloaks
* 1 Diamond Hammer
(BoE Blues) and loads of greens. If you choose to grind the horses (I did them for a change of pace from the Engineers), you can use one of two good farming methods.
1. Stand halfway between the Yeti caves & the Sludge fields. Wait for the horse patrol, kill it, loot; by the time you've looted all of them the next pack will be at you. Just don't let them get too close to the Sludge Fields--if they do, mount up and kill them by the road, or else (depending on your quests completed) they may phase out and be only lootable with great difficulty by flying away then divebombing back to loot them before they dephase again.
2. Stand at the horse spawn point. AoE down 10 or so herds, then let 1 run past. Start looting. Tune the # of herds so that you can finish looting/clearing bags around the time the herd circles back around, allowing you to start again.
Two words of warning either way: Yetimus (HUGE quest mob who patrols part of the horse route) has a knockback, and if you kill him over your horses he'll be a pain, so try and take him down quickly before he gets to your farm spot. Second warning, the loot bug seemed out in force, and I often got a "you can't do that right now" or "that's not ready yet," or "that would be stealing" (not to mention INTERNAL BAG ERROR... wtf?). If you get that, wait for it to "clear" and then try looting a DIFFERENT horse before going back to the "error" one.

First, a warning: Results may vary.
However, kudos to the person who found the lovely horse spawn because 500 kills per 10-15 minutes is easy with AOE looting.
A few tips for the
wild horses
(as of patch 5.0):
1) Always expect to be farming rare pets for a while.
2) Black tabby is best farmed at about coordinates (47,52) as it sits just a bit off the spawn point and can provide a buffer for the occasional missed horse or 2 giving you time to kill them.
3) If your goal is Black tabby and ONLY black tabby, i would recommend not doing this with a skinner. The amount of leather that stacks up can drain a large amount of bag space quickly. Differing opinions exist on this. With AOE looting, however, you can avoid the leather with a skinner and only skin Yetimus to remove him from obstruction.
*4) The dreaded
Yetimus
is CC'able. Therefore, any sap or polymorph or (insert cc here) will work if it works on humanoids. This can be invaluable to pause him and allow for more kills or looting.
5) Do not kill Yetimus over your kill pile, it can be frustrating, my first black tabby was under his body after a mistaken aoe hit him.
6) I have not tried with multiple forms of CC but when yetimus is polymorphed and subsequently one shotted, he does not do the giant aoe kickback ability.
*7) The hardest thing about doing this is finding the horses at first. To do this, travel (clockwise) along this
pathing
and follow them to the aforementioned coordinates. If you do not follow them they tend to 'freeze' and will not continue. This, however, does not seem to happen when you have begun farming.
As always, carry lots of bag spaces, know where the nearest vendor is, and happy hunting. My first tabby was at about 100 horse kills, and my second was at about 1000. So there is hope! Good luck!
Note: All 8 must die for an instant respawn to occur. A well placed AoE should take out the entire group, however, it can be beneficial to AoE multiple times to ensure all 8 die.
And Now for your personal enjoyment: Patch 5.0 includes AoE looting which has enough range to loot all 8 horses at once, or better yet a group of 100! Farmers rejoice!

This is strictly a informational video on how to farm these
Wild Horses
for
light
/
medium
leather plus a chance at the coveted
Black Tabby
zone drop. I found if you stand in one spot these horses will not path through or by you. I'm not sure if it's a bug, but you must fly around on their route for them to show up. Once you kill all in the pack of eight make your way clockwise towards the spawn point.
I Know others have mentioned killing the packs of Wild Horses in previous posts, but think it's easier to learn from a video rather than text.

With 5.0.4 comes AoE Looting which makes farming for this pet much easier. Go to the eight horses spawn point, pop your behind down and AoE them down. Once you have a nice pile of sparkles, loot away. Took about 6 hours and chasing away a few guildies that had the same idea as me. Just make sure you empty your bags. I easily filled up 94 slots with whites and grays and a tone of green in about 30 minutes so expect a few trips to Tarren Mill if you are Horde and an even father flight if you're Alliance. The Guild Herald and Jeeves are a big help and will save you some trips. Happy hunting and don't give up! =3

As of the second day of 5.0.4 when you kill the herd you can only loot one animal. You can skin them all but only loot one. It seems one loot equals same rewards

Thanks to Bengarion's writeup below I got this item with 26,004 kills in about 90 minutes.
The one thing I'd add to it is that, now that pets are account bound, you should find out which of your toons has the quickest AoE spell without a cooldown. You'll also need a fast-cast spell to catch the 1-2 that slip by once in a while. Get a guild herald AND another pet on your action bar for quick summoning (when the herald dies he doesn't seem to be resummonable until a different pet is summoned). Using the herald you can have a sale window open most of the time and sell everything that you loot nearly instantly. This lets you cheat up to almost on top of the spawn point for maximum efficiency.

This is my oldest and favorite pet, as I think it dropped for me sometime in 2007. Major credit to Blizzard for their depth of creativity and realism, considering any proper cat's eventual response to prolonged bother. If you're ever stuck with a long jog at low levels, just left click it for a while - it's hours of fun. Or perhaps just my own guilty pleasure.
For those concerned with the low drop rates for this amazing pet, be sure to re-check the "Contained In" tab if you haven't yet or in a while. Now, in addition to the Hillsbrad area drops it's been added to various bonus satchels 'n 'such. For the sake of convenience I'll post them here with their wowhead-listed drop rates, so please excuse any redundancy, but I hope this helps ease your worries that there's just that one little spot to find your own black tabby.

As I'm sure we've all figured out by now, the
Wild Horse
trick has been 'patched' and we can't use them anymore. There IS an alternative, though.
Infected Sludge Guards
have a certain respawn mechanism that makes them the next-best-thing to the horses. I personally farmed them in the field and just ran around the insides of the fences, killing the 8 that spawn in there and usually a certain one that spawns very close to the outside of the fence. It seemed as though they begin to instantly respawn when below a certain number of alive mobs.
Doing this, I averaged about 1100 kills per hour, looting 110 every 6 minutes (usually waited 5 minutes before starting to loot, then spent a minute picking up my loot). I was using a Ret Pally though, with very limited ranged attacks. Other classes could maybe average higher.
I will say that they RARELY seem to drop green items, and I had to empty the gray vendor trash out of my inventory every 30 minutes, but the nearest merchant is maybe 15 seconds away for Horde (not sure for Alliance, sorry). The amount of
linen
and
wool
gained is ridiculous, though.
Got my Black Tabby after around 3100 kills, so just around the 3 hour mark. Remember though that doesn't mean you'll get it that easy, nor does it mean that it will take you that long. Random is random. Happy farming!

On my server this goes for 12,000-14,000 gold. Which you can farm up in 3-4 hours through MOP potion farming(check youtube for a guide). Also consider purchasing the pet, learning it, and then selling it after you have the achievement.

Edit1 : 26,563 kills in and no drop yet.
Edit2 : 30,014 kills in and no drop yet. Losing motivation constantly but not giving up yet.
Edit3 : 31,763 kills until first drop. Woo!

I got mine last night off of a random mob. I give two @#$%s about pets and would have given it to my friend, had she not freaked out and told me that it was rare and sells for a good amount. Listed for 4k on Velen if interested. If not, whatever.

At first someone told me to farm Torn Fin murlocs, which didnt drop any kittens after 1 hour.
so instead, I started farming infected sludge guard. The spawn rate is quick and within 5min (no joke) The cat dropped. I'd advise go there, spawn rate for them is about 10seconds after killed.

I just got this cat from farming the Stormpike Engineer, I spent roughly 1 and 1/2 hours farming while watching netflix. I was able to farm faster on my Feral druid then my fire mage. And I received this after roughly 1,500 kills. I like most was about to give up and finally got it. I wish everyone luck with farming this pet. I couldnt buy one on my server because they average 35 k there and I refuse to pay that much for a simple cat.

I would suggest the Infected Bears around Azurelode Mine in HillsBrad Foothills for this grind. I've Gotten 2 of these pets from them (The First one I gave Away). The bears appear all around the mine, so you can set up an easy farming route, plus the benefit of getting Light Leather, some Medium Leather, Light and Medium hides as well. The only Draw back to this is its a pretty high questing area, however the respawns are decent so there won't be any fighting over the bears for farmers or questers.

I've went and tried to farm for this...spent at least 3-4hrs without success until it hit me - this pet can be caged and perhaps someone in the guild has it...and lo and behold someone did! So I simply asked nicely if I could borrow it for a few seconds and voila! Now I am a happy crazy cat person. :)
So if you can't find it on AH or you are sick of pointless farming, try asking around...might save you gold and more importantly time.

I have tried for this pet several times over the years since its addition to the game. Never for very long or with any real dedication. My latest attempt I was determined to get it. I took a level 30.5ish pally to Hillsbrad and starting killing
泥嘴豺狼人
. When I no longer received xp (at lvl 32) from their destruction I moved to killing
雷矛工程师
. At lvl 34 they no longer gave me xp, but since 24 is the highest lvl of mob in the zone I stayed. After collecting a total of 4+ stacks(200/stack) of linen and wool cloth each and spending an additional 3+ hrs of grinding I finally got my cat. Good luck to any who attempt this grind. Several times I got discouraged and almost quit. I hung in there and was suitably rewarded. Now on to Winterspring for the Azure Whelpling.

A fantastic area to farm these is around 57, 75, on the

The rules seem to keep changing regarding who drops this so check current "Dropped By" list before starting into the long, long, long grind to try to score this kitty.
Can't get it from Murlocs anymore.
Stormpike Engineers are no longer targetable by Alliance, only Horde can kill them.

Dropped after exactly 2353 kills from a
Cave Yeti
. I'd tried the method mentioned on here, with the
Infected Sludge Guards
, but I found it incredibly boring and pretty unrewarding (only cloth drops, really).
I moved on to the Yetis, as I'm a skinner/LW, and the leather, coupled with the other misc rares/uncommons made me pretty damn rich.
All in all, I'd still suggest the Sludge Guards, if you want the cat asap. But, if like me, you're just casually grinding it, you may as well get something out of it and try your luck with the Gnolls and Yetis..

This really has the worst drop rate in the entire game. I have tried all the different sets of mobs with no luck, and all this after I got the addon KillTrack.
-- 4000+ sludge guards
-- 2000+ cave yeti
-- 2000+ ferocious yeti
-- 2000+ stormpike engineers
-- 1800+ stormpike soldiers
-- 800+ mudsnout gnolls/shamans (there are more than 1 type)
It didn't take near this much time and kills to get the crimson whelpling from Wetlands.

I must add (since no one has for years) that this is impossible...I am OCD about these pets and have been trying to get this one for ever but this week I had off from work and nothing...now there could only be two reasons for this disappointment - 1. It is a Horde only drop (which was never mentioned in any of these posts) 2. It was continuosly snatched by the little level 24s who stopped by for all but two seconds to complete some quest. The latter of which would have been extremely cruel of Blizzard. I spent days slaying Murlocs then days slaying Mudsnouts and finally days wping out the infected slug guards finally I spent the last day juist killing everything in the area including poor horses and Yetis (about an hour in each area). I think someone needs to update their pages or why bother having them to begin with.

I was able to farm this over about 3 weeks of casual farming; 1-2 hours a day on an off. Finally it dropped. I specifically farmed it for money as the server I am on is low to medium pop, but I have found that players just dont want to buy it, or they are really rude about my asking price of 32-40k. PLayers wont go above 10k. I am not sure why that is.
All that to say, I may just keep it for myself since I have been trying to sell it now for about 2 months (Im very very casual; I may play 2 hours in a week on occasions).
For you collectors, Don't get discouraged. It will drop for you sooner or later, just remember it is a very rare drop at 1:5,000 - 1:10,000.

I farmed this in about 3 hours of killing
雷矛工程师
. It's a Horde-only mob, friendly to Alliance. I used a Horde druid engineer. The 45-yard range Sunfire reaches almost all enemies. The corpses despawn in about two minutes so stop and use your Loot-a-Rang
远程拾取器
(engineer only, 40-yard range) before they go. It will AoE loot but you'll need to do it multiple times.
Moll-E engineer mailbox and Jeeves/mount with vendor are very helpful also.
A hunter with Fetch on her pet would work, too.
good luck crazy cat people!

Does anyone know if Syndicate Spy still has about a 1/1000 (0.1%) drop chance? Has anyone found it by farming these guys and how many did you have to kill? According to wowhead data, it's listed as 0.1% drop chance off Syndicate Spy.
I've killed 1719 syndicate spies. That leaves about a 82.1% chance of finding it yet I still haven't found it and I'm beginning to get very sick of killing these same guys...
Probability of finding it is 0.001 (0.1%), therefore probability of
NOT
finding it is (1 - 0.001)^1719 = 0.999^1719 = about 0.179 = 17.9%
Therefore, probability of finding it is 100% - 17.9% = 82.1%
If this mob can still indeed drop it at that rate, unlucky would be an understatement. If anyone knows, please tell me so I know to just keep killing gnolls or something else.
1719 Syndicate Spy
2565 Mudsnout Gnolls
100+ yetis
30-50 of other various mobs that can probably drop it
Thanks
EDIT: Got up to 1900+ Syndicate Spies, 2800+ Mudsnout Gnolls, and 700+ yetis. Decided to try the gnolls one more time and it dropped about 30-40 gnolls later. Woot!
I still don't know if the syndicate spies actually have a lower chance to drop it than listed on wowhead or if I'm extremely unlucky but I know I'm never going to set food in Strahnbrad again - that's for sure!

Just got this today in less than 20 mins of overall* farming. I was gonna farm it using the stormpike engineer method on my horde main server but it's too crowded so i went to a dead server.
Farmed the engineers for ~10 mins and got bored so I stopped.
I logged in later and tried the syndicate guys but I found it annoying after killing them all and waiting for respawn so i decided to go back and farm engineers and killed YETI's along the way (I just have a habit of killing mobs randomly) and on my 2nd yeti, it dropped.
I used an arcane mage to farm and it's hella easy especially if you're farming the engineers because of arcane explosion. I just blink, arcane explosion, loot. Repeat
Good luck!
EDIT: after I got it, helped a friend get his and killed stormpike engineers and he got it after ~30mins. Easy being an arcane mage since you don't necessarily have to target anything
EDIT2: got it again after my friend got it and I tried killing Dun Garok Spirits (killed around 20 of them)

If you're planning on farming to get the
black tabby cat
in a drop for the
Crazy for Cats
achievement and
Crazy Cat Lady
/
Man
title, know that it's most likely going to take thousands of kills to get this to drop. I started out doing this the hard way, so I wanted to share what I found to hopefully keep you from wasting time on this too.
Currently, the 3 NPCs with the highest drop rates for this item are:
Syndicate Spy
(.05)
Chet the Slime-Breeder
(.04)
Stormpike Engineer
(.03)
So it would seem that the Syndicate Spy would be your best option. Even with a low, low drop rate, it's still the highest.
However, consider this: syndicate spies are stealthed, so it's more difficult to find them. Also, they're spread out over a farm and in several buildings with other NPCs who don't drop this item, so you're going to be killing more than you need to. They also respawn slowly, so you're probably going to waste a lot of time running around trying to find them. This is where I started and it probably would've taken me days to kill the quantity I'd need to in order to get the black tabby carrier to drop.
Chet's just one NPC, so unless you want to hang out with that creepy dude for days, weeks, months...it's probably not a practical option.
Stormpike Engineers have a lower drop rate, but they are much more plentiful and spawn quickly, sometimes before the previous corpse is gone, so you're probably going to always have something in the area to kill. They're located at Gavin's Naze, which is located just east of Sludgeguard Tower in Hillsbrad Foothills, Eastern Kingdoms. They're spread out, working on machines that you can run right through, so it's easy enough to just run around the area killing the engineers. The
Stormpike Engineer comments
have some great suggestions on the best ways to farm them. They're also the only NPCs in that area, so you're not going to waste kills on NPCs that don't drop it.
If I'm understanding this
dropchance calculator
correctly, with a .03 drop rate, at 7,674 kills you should have a 90% chance of getting this drop and 15,348 kills puts you at a 99% chance.
I hope this information was helpful!

This is a killing fewer murlocs approach to farming the pet, although you will probably end up killing a bunch of them anyway.
As of 9.0.2, yes you can still farm for this pet as horde or alliance, although as alliance you won't be able to attack
Stormpike Engineers
(40, 48) which is popular for Horde due to their quick respawn rate. With that said
Infected Sludge Guards
(39, 60) are a viable alternate. You might as well get a very long Rob Zombie playlist going, because you will more than likely be killing undead for a while. You could get it within your first 1,000 kills, or 20,000 or more kills.
Allience: After ~20-40 minutes of killing Sludge Guards, they may start respawning much slower. You'll be able to tell when it happens because nothing will be there. I'm not sure why this happens, but it does. When this occurs, I advise going southwest to the coast and start killing all the murlocks on the way to Southshore.
Do not
bother killing oozes in Southshore if they aren't between levels 40-49 and you're going for the Disgusting Oozeling pet too, because currently (9.0.2) the
Oozing Bags
are level restricted. Read the comments to understand what's going on. Skip them, and depending on how fast you cleared the murlocks, either head back to Sludge Guards or continue east and kill some naga. By the time you get back, the Sludge Guards should all be respawned and you're good for another half our or so of Rob Zombie madness. Rinse and repeat, and best of luck because you'll probably need it.
Horde: I don't know if the Stormpike Engineers have any issues as far as respawn rates, but whatever you decide to kill, may the force be with you!
It took me 17,044 kills to finally get the dang thing. Don't feel discouraged if you hit the 10k mark and haven't seen it, or even the 20k mark. You'll get it eventually.

I've been farming this as a destro lock at level 60. I keep my imp out, stand in one place and tag all the stormpike engineers around with one of my curses. Imp one-shots them and by then they've run close enough that I can loot them right where I'm standing. It's a handy way of doing it if you feel like putting on a movie or something while you farm!

被感染的药渣农场卫士
after a few tests among the popular npcs.
I ended up using two monks having the black ox statue out and just spam rushing jade wind and you don't even need to move around. You can position the two statues to cover an area that is enough to have them keep respawning after they are all killed. Occasionally I have to taunt one npc that is slightly out of reach of the statue and it will keep the spawn loop going.
If you can only use one character this black ox + jade wind method is still very fast but you just need to move around and that's how I started anyway.(##RESPBREAK##)290##DELIM##PigeonD##DELIM##

Recorded 5800 kills at The Sludge Fields in Hillsbrad Foothills over the course of 2 weeks, the mobs there spawn extremely quickly, almost instantaneously. The only issue is that, after a certain number of kills - approximately 650 - they stop spawning altogether. This wasn't an issue because I randomly found someone selling the carrier for 1500g on the auction house and never completed my grind, but that spot is excellent if anyone is interested in farming this.
