This is the Alliance-Version.
Is the Horde-Version.
These cost 50
Should only take a couple of hours to get enough coins just go back and redo all the elders.
cost 50 coin of ancestry a sold by Valadar Starsong in Moonglade does not say bind on pick up so they can be put on AH to get both factions
*edit* why downrate when info is correct or are people fussy cos i had difficulty putting links into post... in which case sorry
Can i have both on one character ?
edit: OK work this i have today collected both on one character
It's not BoP - I just successfully sent it to my alt.
Maximum amount of coins to gather is 88 though, so it's not possible to buy two (for example to sell one).
I just submitted a screenshot, hopefully it gets put up so you can see what youre buying. Basically the same lamp for alliance is the one shown on the Lunar Festival page.
Won't take long to get this companion if you're 85..It only costs 50
and if you do the achievement
To Honor One's Elders
you will defiantly get the 50 coins and you will be able to purchase it from
Edit : Why downrate it's only some helpful info..
It's sold by

available this festival so you'll only be able to buy one of these, with 34 coins remaining. This is great for engineers, as the recipes make up another 30 coins, leaving 4 spare!
It is the Alliance version of
Do note that both pets are not bind on pick-up, so you can trade them. This also means you can have both on one character if you manage to get a hold of the Horde version as well, as Alliance players can only buy this lantern from the vendor.
The neutral AH prices are insanely high for the opposite faction's pet. To be expected that the prices will drop upcoming days when players are starting to grind em with alts.
is available for Alliance players as a part of the Lunar Festival (which in 2012 runs from Sunday, January 2nd until Saturday, February 11th). The Horde equivalent item is
These companion pets are available for 50x
Both of these companion pets are BoE
, which means they can be traded via the neutral AH and an Alliance or Horde character can ultimately obtain the pet version from both factions.
WoD. Account-wide pets have made this a little easier, though getting to Deepholm got a bit more difficult.
Seems like prices are pretty steep on the neutral auction house, and unless these drop as more lanterns become available, or you know someone from the other faction to exchange lanterns, or already have a 60+ character of the other faction, here's a
alternative if you want both lanterns
on one character
with account-wide pets, you can of course learn the other lantern with the character you get it on - you don't even need to stay on your home server, though it of course helps to have the gold for Flying.
Create a death knight of the other faction and level it to 60 by completing the starter zone and some instances, and "send" it cash via a friend purchasing an auction of the DK on the
which is now shared between the factions, as
will definitely help. Keep in mind though that the
AH takes a
5% cut of the winning bid, so if you want to transfer 500G, the buyout has to be at least
The Elders of Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms, friendly cities and the lower-level dungeons only take you to 47 coins, but if you purchased the flying skills, you can go to the Cataclysm zones as well, remember that you can talk to the Elders while flying (even Deepholm can be reached if you find a highlevel

Take the DK to Moonglade, purchase the pet, then
transfer it through the neutral auction house with the help of a friend. However, make sure there is no other player at the

Here is the breakdown of the number of
you can get:
: 3 coins
: 3 coins
: 17 coins
: 21 coins
: 18 coins
: 9 coins

So essentially you can get one of your faction's pet per character; potentially 2 next year if you save your coins! Of course you can always buy extras on the AH as mentioned before.
In case people haven't noticed,
posted a new
"50 Easy Elders: Getting the Lunar Festival Pet"
guide. It's geared for relatively lower level players, for example if someone rolled a DK to get a the opposing faction lantern. I don't agree with everything (see my comment there), but I learned some things from it and I think it will be handy for a lot of people. Perhaps if the author includes feedback, it will get even better.
ADDED: For Horde Characters << level 70, leaving Warsong Hold can much more difficult than the guide indicated simply because spiders can prevent you from looking outside the doors and spotting the path. Mount up well inside, then charge out the NE door. Dodge a rock directly in front of the door by going to the right of it, then continue ahead up the hill. Don't stop to get your bearings until you are on level ground. Scoping the area out in advance in a higher level character would help.
's are both BoE. So you can trade them using the Steamwheedle Cartel Neutral Auction House (with the help of a friend) to transfer them both too the same character on the same faction and get credit for 2 vanity pets.
(You can also get two of one Lantern and offer to trade an alliance/horde, for an alternative idea from getting an 85 of the other faction and grinding the elders again)
You can just learn the pet now
They require 50
too purchase 1 Lantern from
Good luck, and enjoy the fireworks. :)
This companion will stick around when you're on a flying mount.
If you were worried that this pet would be like the various balloons, and therefore not available for pet battles, dont worry :D, this pet, and its counterpart
are both available for the pet battle system.
It is currently a Magic type pet with starting health of 151, 10 attack, and 10 speed (Stats on both items are the same, their abilities are also identical). On a related note,
are also available for battling :D.
Are these cagable?
On a side note, when learned these are Uncommon (Green) and are not rare (blue)
Lvl 1 Stats: HP: 151 - Power 10 - Speed 10
Lvl 25 Stats: HP: 1375 - Power: 255 - Speed: 255
Rare (upgrade from battlestone)
Lvl 25 Stats: HP: 1481 - Power 276 - Speed 276
And I dub thee...
Just purchased this pet.
Had enough coins left over from last year.
Just checked the vendor and this pet has been removed from the vendor, you can only buy for 50 .
I'm not sure if it's just a bug or intended..
Looks like as a Alliance you can get Lunar Lantern, and the Festival Lantern as a Horde.
Despite this pet being cross-faction since day one (by way of the neutral AH at first and then later just standard) this pet can no longer be summoned by a Horde character. Not sure when this change was made but I noticed it on 11/24/2022. Seems a little late to be making this change now after it's been available to both factions for better part of two decades. Here's hoping it's just a mistake and will be fixed soon.
