Been hearing rumors this and the top hat recipe are now in game and possibly drop off the cata world bosses + poseidus at a low rate. Either added with 4.3 or one of the maintenance or hot fix patches. Or maybe world drops.

Subjugator Devo in Stonetalon mountains are wearing them, at Malaka'Jin. That is where I first saw them and would be AWESOME if in game. Check out this NPC in 'person' to see them glitter and sparkle.

I still don't believe this thing to be in the game. It's one of those items that doesn't have where it drops from in Wowhead, not "Vendor" or "Drop" or anything.

Not to mention it's not in any of the loot tables of the mobs people have said it "drops" from. And by now, you'd think if it was in fact ONLY from them, they'd have added it. Which makes me think, that IF it is in the game, it's a world drop and it just so happens they got it from them, or it's not in at all.

Whatever the case, I want more concrete proof, a link to a character's JC, or something to tell me where I can find it, and if it is in fact in the game.

It is absolutely in game. I talked with a guy who is hordside on US realm Exodar who has the pattern and is selling the glasses on the AH there. He said that it's a world drop. It did not drop off of a rare elite spawn but off of a 'non-aggressive' in Tol Barad.

I have this pattern on my Warrior over on Exodar it dropped off a Restless Soldier on Tol Barad, it dropped over a month ago, I didn't realize how rare this pattern was until I started get messages from people making toons on Exodar to get a set I was selling in AH.

I spoke with a GM a few minutes ago and he told me this:
- This pattern is a worlddrop and can drop from every mob in Cata and MoP.
- The Chance in Cata is a bit higher than in MOP, maybe because it was implemented in Patch 4.3.
- The Chance is aprox. 0,01% and can only drop for Jewelcrafters.
- It can drop realy from every monster.

I see they have no stats. Transmog gear requires stats from what I know. Would be nice to be moggable on any type of armor though...

OK, everyone STOP. You are hurting my brain. The problem is you are confusing the percentages with decimals. "0.01%" is not the same as a decimal of 0.01. At all. OP's "logic" is not "irrefutable" because it has nothing to do with an intuitive guess; confused the percent chance of success with the decimal expression of that percentage. You already know that 23% is not expressed as 23.00; 1% is not expressed as 1.0; so 0.01% cannot possibly be expressed as 0.01.

The chance of something happening over, like OP says, 10000 tries is expressed as:

(Number of tries multiplied by the FRACTIONAL equivalent of the PERCENT chance of success), minus the (FRACTIONAL equivalent of the PERCENT chance of failure, risen to the power of tries).

A percent chance of 0.01% is a fraction of 0.0001 - that's success. The percent of failure, therefore, is 99.99% - expressed as a fraction, that's 0.9999 - still with me?

So to find the probability of success over 10,000 tries, we have to do this the following. The first part is your chance of getting the drop, 10 thousand times... the second is the probability of you not getting the drop, over ten thousand events:

(0.0001 + 0.0001 + 0.0001.... ten thousand times) MINUS (0.9999 * 0.9999 * 0.9999 ... ten thousand times...)

which means

10000(0.0001) - 0.0009 ^ 100000 which is

1 - 0.37 = .63

So at the end of 10,000 tries, you will have had a 63% chance of success - that means one person killing 10,000 things has a 63% chance of seeing ONE drop by the end of 10k tries.

That's how probability works. Each event is independent. (Heads.... heads.... heads....). You are not guaranteed 63 successes; you are not guaranteed anything. That's why it's probability, and not certainty. ;) This is apparently called Bayes' Theorem (I had to look that up, I vaguely remembered the method of calculating percent over attempts but not what it's called... or much else).

Been farming Restless soldiers in tol barad, and seahorses in dread wastes for this design. I think putting this in the game as it is is a design flaw. This is like impossible to get. Things shouldn't be unobtainable. I get that they wanted it to be rare but its depressing knowing i'll always have that one design I can't get in JC. Just got vial of the sands on my alt alchy. I think that grind is better designed than this one.... Heard it drops off cata rares. Would be nice if I could get some kills on them but they are never up....

I want them to put this in like an WoD black market AH or something. Someone get that info to blizzard!

According to blizzard, the seahorses in Dread Wastes have a chance to drop 图样：上流社会的礼帽 and 图鉴：莱茵石太阳镜. Who knows if they are actually dropping them, but if they are, all of these seahorses are located South of Zan'Vess. There are two 野生海马s, one fast and one slow. And there are two schools of 淘气海马s, four per school. The seahorses each have about a 5 minute respawn timer. I recommend having a , an 水润珠宝, and some 暗水药水s.

The slow Wild Seahorse spawns around 19.7, 90.1, and moves in a clockwise oval with the farthest east point being around 29.8, 97.4. I don't remember how long his circuit takes, but for your first kill of him, you should fly around until you find him. After that, his spawn point will be close to where you're staying (and you'll know when he will be respawning).

The fast Wild Seahorse spawns around 20.2, 95.9, and its easternmost point is around 34.2, 95.3. It only takes it 1:50 to go there and back again, so in my experience, it's better to stay at the spawn point and wait for it.

Each school of playful seahorses has a leader, and if you CC the leader, the other three just wait for you to attack them.

The westernmost school takes about 0:56 to do a circuit, which passes close to the spawn point of the fast Wild Seahorse (19.7, 90.7).

The easternmost school takes about 1:30 to do a circuit, and the westernmost point is near 24.5, 95.9, a little to the east of a sunken ship.

It's still tedious to camp these guys, but hopefully this will make it a little more efficient for people. Good luck!

So, if this design now drops from any mob in MoP, my advice to anyone who's farming the pattern, is to kill mobs in Vale of Eternal Blossoms, since they also drop 天之裂片 for the Alani mount. If you already have it, just spam trade, there's always someone who's willing to buy 雷霆红玉云端翔龙缰绳. You will be rich when you get the pattern and start selling the Sunglasses, but it's not a bad thing to get richer while farming it ;)

HAhahaha according to blizzard. I wouldnt trust their faulty PoS database or their GM's who know less than an average WoW player, and cannot count to triple digits.

Anyways..lets check out that database...

For example : type in Runecloth and according to their database it is dropped from 2093 mobs ranging from levels 7-55( which is obviously bullsht as runecloth is dropped by mobs level 47-64)

Mageweave-? same story.

Or Schematic: Ice Deflector. It is shown being ''sold '' by Super-Seller 860..and I call BS once again because the NPC never sold it and only Rizz Loosebolt sold it preShattering. Heck,...the NPC( Super-seller) is even bugged right now and hasnt been ingame since MoP hit

Or..another inconsistency. Flask of Oil is being shown ''dropped'' by level 2.-4 Dun Morogh Mechanicals. Which is more BS because they do not ''drop'' but have to be ''salvaged'' and from mechanical mobs higher than levels 2-4 (mobs have to be at least those Defias Reapers in Westfall which are level 12-14 and not level 2)

I could go on and on but ive already spammed enough so with that being said...
The most logical guess is that it had to be a simple world drop yet something got fkkd up so they never added it to begin with and then scrambled to add it in in patch 4.3 and somehow messed up the loot tables...added another 0 here or there( the usual blizzard(TM)* way) and the pattern has an even lower chance to drop..if only i could get my hands on a priv 4.3.4 wow server and tinker with that database I could tell whats up...i will update this post once i will hopefully get a chance to work with a legit private server that doesnt have a messed up database( very difficult to find that) and get to look into mob droptables

Also those ''rare cata spawns'' have a higher affixed chance to drop a random world pattern (any pattern, JC/BS/Enchanting/etc with green ones having a higher chance)

Have to share xXzCodProxXz's sentiment - Like the page for the Top Hat Recipe, this one *also* has NO tab for "dropped by", which means anyone who says they have it is just blowing smoke up everyone's arse. And yes, there are a lot of ppl who will try to waste your time by sending you on wild goose chases, cuz they have nothing better to do. Bottom line: Until it shows up in the wowhead database as actually being looted, it's another red herring from Blizz. Seriously, if you add up all the times that the mobs that are *supposed* to drop it have been looted, it should have shown up by now as having dropped from one of them. Sure, there's ppl who don't run the wowhead looter, my point is that if it was dropping at all, it should have shown up for one of those ppl who do run the looter. And realistically, even if it did drop for someone who wasn't running the looter, the numbers here on wowhead still demonstrate that it's not really farmable. The pics here on this page are probably from the PTR. The fact that the Sunglass recipe and the Top Hat recipe drop from all the same mobs in Blizzard's Armory data would seem to confirm that it isn't dropping.

Going to inform some people about this, Might save ya a bit of time. I have a few screenshots of my chat with a GM on 5/2/2015

Now from this chat the GM says "Appears" so my guess is he/she wasn't 100% sure. And I mean how could they be? Blizzard has items on their site that says drops from mobs that doesn't even drop them items. So I wouldn't believe everything a GM will say, and more importantly, I can't stress it enough, THIS SITE! The data from this site is uploaded from people that use the add-on. I myself have obtained many items from many mobs that are not even listed on their loot table. Look at it this way.

How many people are jewelcrafters? A lot. How many people are recipe fanatics? Very little. How many people use the wowhead add-on? Some. How rare is this design? VERY VERY rare. So tack that onto said questions above and you got a very very very low chance of any documented, confirmed data. All we can go on right now is the words of others.

Me? I think the design is still there, but it's so low, and so undocumented that it appears to not even drop. I'm going to still try and farm this up and will make sure to provide screenshots on drop(if it drops that is) But I won't go crazy.

Color me skeptical. If you look at the Undermine Journal stats for the item itself across the US or EU, it sure looks like a very rare static drop rather than anything that's being crafted somewhere. Truegold might be pricey but the profit margin would still be substantial.

But I would be very happy to be wrong.

I'm pretty sure this recipe DOES NOT drop as I played the $%^& out of my JC the last couple expansions and never saw it drop, despite killing several of the mobs from whom Blizzard "claims" it drops. Maybe if enough of us raise a stink they'll look into it.

There are four (Ultra) rare recipes in Cataclysm that teaches Jewelcrafters how to make awesome headgear. They are highly sought for vanity reasons and are very likely to fetch a nice price in the Auction House:

While they can't be transmogged, there are no level restrictions nor any status gains.

They can - and most likely will only - be used to pimp your AH lvl1 alts with the coolest gear.

Apparently there is a rumor around that the bosses for these might have had a significant increase in their spawns (meaning they spawn LOTS quicker). Like 4-6 hour timer now rather than 3-5 days.

For how many goes that on AH ? I got the recipe for the hat a few month ago. Needed far over 1500 kills for it to drop. Not worth it(for me!) because i get not enough gold to pay 5 accs. Im now at 30 k and noone wants it.

Both the 图鉴：莱茵石太阳镜 and the 图样：上流社会的礼帽 are obtainable and in game!

You can acquire them on the same character with Jewelcrafting and Tailoring professions.

Got it! 图鉴：莱茵石太阳镜 dropped for me yesterday after hundreds of Garr kills. I have been cross-realm farming with 4 accounts (all tailors and jewelcrafters) on and off for just over a year and finally I can add this to the 图样：上流社会的礼帽 which dropped about 3 months ago. Drops for any level jewelcrafter as does the Top Hat for any level tailor. Good luck all, confirming they are still in the game.

Hello! I am writing this to give hope and help those who want this recipe.
Today at 4.25 Moscow time, the sketch was received from Zariona in the Underdark location by my main jeweler (Horde, death knight, blood elf woman, level 50, Howling Fjord server) with the Cataclysm 75/75 skill without using multiboxing (the second profession is alchemy).
The hunt for the recipe has been for over 3 years by the main and trial characters with the Jewelcrafting skill 1/75 Cataclysm. All rare NPCs from which this sketch could be obtained were killed. According to very rough estimates, there were about 7,000-10,000 kills in total.

I read almost all the comments here and I still keep wondering. What is the most efficient way to start farming the recipe now (Shadowlands 9.0.5)? Casually or not, what info do we know about the drop of the recipe? The All The Things addon is not really helpful on that, plus the Wowhead does not say anywhere about drop chances and mobs, etc.

I tried the Cataclysm "world bosses" but still, that farming method seems really hard since we don't know for sure yet their respawn timers (some people say 3 hours but do we have any valid source for that change? it used to be days), and even then the respawn timer will probably be too long. I would prefer to endlessly kill for 2-3 hours +- some mobs who I know that they have an "x" chance to drop it than waiting for these "world bosses".

Do you have any place/ mobs to suggest? I don't mind how low the drop rate will it be as long as I know for sure that these "x" mobs have the chance, because as I see it now, we have nothing really confirmed and we just have random GM answers or screenshots 3+ years old.

Since the glasses are transmogable now, I think it will be a good idea to update our info and gather it all together for the people who would like to farm the recipe in the future.

Thank you for your time and congrats to whoever decides to spend hoooours on that hard and blindfolded farm. You are heroes.

Edit: I don't know if they (Blizzard) should update their info and give us something... like true information... I don't know if it is fair and just, it is just a thought. But I think we deserve a clear and responsible answer to something... I will try to send some tickets (I won't get a helpful answer, I do know that) and write to them on the "Submit feedback or bug report" tab. If we all start doing that maybe they give us some guidelines. It seems a leap of faith, but we will never learn the results if we never try as a whole.

I just looted 图鉴：莱茵石太阳镜 from Garr after 9600 cata world boss kills.

My character was max jewel crafting when the pattern dropped.

Got recipe 图鉴：莱茵石太阳镜 after 12000 attempts in total, i was 1/75 cataclysm JC when it dropped.

Have never did anything more exhausting than this in my entire world of warcraft gaming history. 你疯了吧？！ was a joke compared to this.

FINALLY DROPPED After 4 years of on-again off-again farming of all cata rares across multiple servers, and also creating an addon that would track kill times and number of kills, also every 15th kill the addon played a piece of audio from the yoga instructor in the movie Couples Retreat "Encouragment, yes" ...and along the way losing that data... I finally looted the sunglasses, on my 5th kill after taking a break for almost exactly 1 year.... Boom ...

I dont know how many kills it took, my best guess would be somewhere around 5 thousand with 4 toons looting each kill, so 20 thousand chances 3/4 toons had JC lvl 1

This is how I managed to obtain this design.

I farmed for approx three months and averaged 130 kills per day by doing the following:

- Creating a separate account;
- Creating 3xlvl 20 chars on each connected realm on a server by random choosing;
- Placing out the lvl 20 chars with the help of my main account char on Akhm’hat, Julak-Doom and Garr’s spawn points on locations that are close enough to observe but not get aggro;
- If done correctly you will have 3xlvl20 chars on approx 10 connected realms, so 30 chars that can generate 30 boss kills each third hour;
- The bosses have by my experience a 3h-3h30m respawn timer from when they were killed so if you know when the boss was killed then it is easy to calculate when it will spawn again (I used a spreadsheet to keep track);
- Farming method: login to each lvl 20 char and if you see the boss, invite your main char to the realm and ride as fast as possible to the spawnpoint and kill the boss (recommend that you have JC on a mage for obvious reasons, i.e portals for quick travels).

I obtained the design on my 11667 kill on 11 November 2020 and it was Julak-Doom that dropped it for me on Maghteridon-EU.

If you can bear the cost of having a separate account and have the time, then go for it, but it is time consuming, frustrating and outright crazy to go with this method but I really wanted the design at that time.

after years of unsuccessful attempts, I think I may point out that the computations done on the 0,01% chance over all servers, with 10000 JC all acting together etc, just assume the distribution is Normale (Gaussian) which it is not. I told Blizzard years ago that their pseudo random number generator was badly designed and produced a bad spread (and not a std deviation), event if the MEAN may be 1/10000 . As long as they don't fix it, we will continue having trouble getting "random" drops. Remember Hirukon in SL/Zereth Mortis. Remember the fishing for mounts. Some got it at 40 attempts, and a lot over 16000, for a "mean" of 700. it's really a p-RNG problem IMHO.

According to my wow item restoration page, I have vendored / deleted 8,858 items in the last 3 months. Each boss drops 3 items, so I have about 3,000 kills. This doesn't include previous kills from the last 3 years when I would kill the bosses at most twice a day and only on some days.

I haven't looted either the rhinestone sunglasses or the top hat. I have looted 3 monocles and made slightly under a million in raw gold.

Seriously this is just such a huge waste of time that I would say don't bother. I have every other pattern, design etc for every profession, and this might be one of the only things I will never get. This is the hardesrt grind in the game by far, nothing even comes close. If this was not BoP, it would be worth more than gold cap. It is that rare.

What the hell is this change? Now both rarest recipes in-game are BOE? Not to mention bugged and increased drops , heavenly onyx fiasco #2. Somehow, it's a feeling these "coincidence" bugs happening for someoby's personal gains.

Results from 167 kills post 10.0.5:

So, it's safe to say that Blizzard has increased the drop chance for all of these items. My character did not have tailoring.

unsure how to add proof but I have obtained these about 2 days ago on a druid with tailoring and alchemy! its BOE and no longer profession locked

Looted this earlier today from Akma'hat in Uldum, while in War Mode, on Moon Guard. The character I looted it on is a Tailor, but not a Jewelcrafter. Thankfully, the item is no longer BoP, so I will be able to send it to my Jewelcrafter toon.

I looted it today around 11 am from Xariona in WM on EU-Todeswache (German). See Screenshot: https://ibb.co/bX2mjTq
It took me 4 years and 3 months. I farmed Julak, Akma'hat, Xariona, Garr and Mobus in normal in WM. I estimate it took around 12.000-15.000 kills.
I guess now it is easier due to the patch changes.

Spawn time of theses bosses ist between 2h 10 Minutes and 4h. (I documented it in an excel-Sheet).

At about 5:00 PST 2/19/2023, #26 separate were posted on US realm auction houses. (According to the data on theunderminejournal) Not sure what to make of this. Waiting to buy the pattern if that many .02 world drops showed up at once.

As you can see, now it is so much easier. Recipes are now BoE. You can sell them on Auction House. You don't have to be Tailor or Jawelcrafter to loot this patterns.

Technically this is not the same recipe as the BOE one in Dragonflight in that it uses
different components to craft and does not require Dragonflight to learn. In all
likelyhood it will still show as unlearned on your Cata Recipe page if you have only
learned the other version. But that is of importance only to hard core collectors,
since the item produced seems to be the same.

Maybe I'am insanely unlucky, but I think Blizz has changed drop rate for 图鉴：莱茵石太阳镜 and 图样：上流社会的礼帽.

Dunno if drop rate is back to normal, but I think now its harader again...
