I got mine with the completion box in the same box as reaching Renown 8. Unsure if hitting renown 8 is a requirement for it or if it is random

In the specific run I had tier 5 with all 8 challenges and zero deaths. I did not remove any of the obelisks or embers(doubt it matters though).
I looted all the treasure chests and killed all rares.
I was on my leatherworker and got the recipe as well. Recipe is BoE.

Tried to do run on my other leatherworker to see if I could loot more recipes, currently done 1 run and no drop.

I suspect the recipe is BoE to let you give it to a Leatherworker to craft the mount for you.

Edit: 5 runs done on secondary Leatherworker and no drop.

Can ONLY LW loot the rope bc iv done it a lot and yet to get the item to have a LW craft it

Got it just now in tier 5 with all 8 active challenges.
On that specific attempt i was max renown (8) and tried to clear every single rare and chest (didn't clear all mobs at all but only what was necessary to make the pathing)

It was my second attempt tier 5 with 8 challenges.
Did 6 times tier 5 with 4 challenges and got none.

Waiting for a leatherworker to complete my command order (on Hyjal-EU) since i got it without having the leatherworking on my char.

No idea if i got lucky or not in the end, but i wish you good luck anyway!

Got it from Tier 5, 8 challenges I was renown 7 at the time (leveled to 8 when I opened the chest got the leash at the same time)
I also did not have leatherworking profession

Ran about 10 Tier 5 with 8 challenges active (after getting to renown 8) and got nothing. Ran a Tier 1 with 8 challenges and this dropped.

Pretty sure it's an RNG drop after you hit renown 8. I had deaths in the run that I looted it, another person got in a T1 and another in a T5. While I did have 8 active challenges, I don't think that's a requirement either. Just need to hit max renown. Recipe also dropped for my main in a T3 after hitting renown 8 (as alch/skinning)

Confirming that I've seen this drop from both Broken Throne and Daggerspine Point sites in the end of run chest. I personally had this drop in Broken Throne on Tier 1, 8 challenges active, max renown. However, the number of challenges do not seem to be relevant based on other comments.

I've tried approximately 100 attempts, some at Tier1 - 0 challenges, Tier 1 - 8 challenges, Tier 2 - 8 challenges, Tier 3 - 8 challenges, and Tier 5 - 8 challenges, but doesn't matter, still don't have the leash. I'm renown 8, and got 2 paragon chests. Algo got the recipe on the final chest when I reached renown 6.
At least Blizzard could help by providing more than just a simple description, as I'd like to know if I'm simply wasting my time (I mean, even more so).

No LW.
Not kill any rares or loot chest.
Was with 虚空之触山猫幼崽 in party)) mb just lucky,dont know...
There had been many unsuccessful attempts at different difficulties.

after countless runs on different difficulties and affixes (even doing a full clear at tier 5 with 8 challenges because i must really hate myself), this finally dropped for me on a tier 1 with no challenges

OK to close any confusion about this Leash .. IT CAN DROP on any difficulty with or without any affixes, on both ritual locatios and is not tied to lw profesion or renown it's just verry low drop rate around or under 1%. Just keep grinding u will get it. having higher tier or more affixes does not increase the drop chance. fastest way is spam t1 0 afix. even faster if u get a 4 other decently gear ppl spam t1 0 and each of u take a different mini boss then meet at final boss.

I see plenty of people commenting "the fastest way to farm this is _____" but the truth is, the fastest way to farm this is to run 0 challenges, tier 1, and just run to the final boss and kill him. He does next to no damage on tier 1 and has so little health that a single burst window from nearly any class can easily nuke him down before he even summons his minions. However, if he does summon his minions, pop a defensive and 1 shot the minions while not standing in the fire and finish him off. The HP debuff only goes to 90% and he'll stop casting his damage abilities to summon his minions, the chances of you taking damage from anything is hilariously low. Will a fresh 90 toon be able to do this? No.. But if you have at least full champion gear (not even upgraded) you should be able to get him down quick enough.

If you are confused, like me, on how are people doing 1 minute runs, you can, in fact, run to the end boss in Broken Throne without killing any of the mini-bosses. He applies a 90% max health reduction - depending on gear and burst you can kill him before he kills you (e.g.: paladins can remove the debuff via bubble).

Dropped for me on t1 0c (BT) after 289371938 attempts. the one that dropped for me was when i killed only last boss but killed all rares (stars marked on minimap) + looted all chests shown on minimap . Hope it helps killing your pain. (was renown 8).

I have observed that score does have an impact on the drop rate of cosmetic items - when doing 100 Tier 1 boss skip runs (i.e killing boss with the 90% debuff and getting only 20 score), no cosmetics dropped at all. When doing 50 Tier 1, 5 affix runs and killing the minibosses for about 190 total score, 3 cosmetics did indeed drop. Therefore I have a strong inkling that this item requires a certain minimum score before it can drop. And the drop chance may increase with higher score. This would also be consistent with Blizzard's own wording to describe Ritual Sites - "As you take on greater challenges, you’ll be able to receive greater rewards". And it would be consistent with the Withered Army Training scenario, where higher score led to better chance at rewards.

as others are pointing out, I am fairly sure final score scales the rewards. I farmed T1 no challenge for 605 runs, running straight to the boss and bursting him down, and saw no drops. After swapping to T5 8 challenges I saw one pattern drop (with a full 1 tank 4 dps group) and the leash dropped on my second solo run

After countless runs on Tier 1 with no challenges it finally dropped. Doubt it mattered but to mix it up I killed all rares and looted all chests. Finished with a score of 186

Can confirm this drops on T1, 0 challenges, and running straight to last boss. Took about 80 attempts.

After 150+ tries on the Zul Aman Ritual Site on T1 with 0 challenges varying from running straight to end boss and killing all mini bosses and rares it dropped on my first run of the Eversong Woods Ritual Site. The run was on T1 with 0 challenges. I killed all the mini bosses and the rares. Just the Leash dropped for me so far.

So this seems to be yet another mount with an under-1%-droprate. And the only way to get it is endless repetitive runs of a ritual site.

Is there any updated tricks/info for this? I'm at ~~265~~ 387 runs at various tiers and challenges with no success.

Just dropped for me in the Zul'Aman ritual site on tier 5 with 4 challenges. I only went straight to mini bosses then the final boss without killing rares or looting chests. Final score was 772. I don't have rarity installed but if I had to guess, this was probably around 350 attempts.

Got it today in a couple of runs after swapping to tier 5 with 8 challenges and killing all 4 rares.

Did about 150 runs prior to that, mostly t1 0 challenges or t5 0 challenges were nothing dropped.

Not sure if it's in any way connected to the difficulty or just rng. But hey atleast 550 voidlight marl per run + more from the paragon caches is pretty nice while doing t5 8challenges.
