The drop rate on this, on expansion opening, is going to be so low as to not even be worth thinking about farming this since it will be gated right away. They will not let you max out your prof in the first month so forget about farming non stop for these points as you wont get them.

These began to drop for me after having gotten the 5 deepgrove petals and the deepgrove rose. I have so far looted about 20. Day after first reset in TWW.

Anyone still getting this on or after 8/28?
I did a session with 200+ Myco and dropped 0 (I've completed 5 deepgrove petals and the deepgrove rose this week)
I was also mining half of the time, and dropped 0 its equivalent (Null Sliver)

All in Ringing Deep if that means anything

Farmed herbs for four hours, picking hundreds of each herb and only one dropped. I did get it after I already claimed my petals and rose.
Looks like another instance of abuse early and abuse often. The drop rate used to be much higher.

9/7 After finishing my other knowledge loots, I started getting these. 3 have dropped in the last half hour. Since this is a character I only recently started leveling, I wonder if these are intended to be a hidden catch up mechanic for knowledge?

IDK how, but these started to drop after completing the 5 deepgrove petals and the deepgrove rose. Recently got 10 of It at Isle of Dorn in less than half hour. Strange, but sweet

These are for catching up on Knowledge Points that you have missed in previous weeks. You start to get them after you receive the 5 Deepgrove Petals and 1 Deepgrove Rose AND after completing the weekly quest for Herbalism knowledge.

I'm not 100% on this, but so far I have only received them after the 5 deepgrove petals and the deepgrove rose have dropped, I have also done the weekly herbing quest for KP and one thing that I have noticed is that they only dropped for me in one of the zones. I got them out of Azj-Kahet last week even though I went over the course of four hours through every zone (mapping nodes for my mining/herbing add-on), nothing dropped except in the spider kingdom. This week, again roving around all four zones, I only had them drop on the Isle of Dorn zone.

I also noted one weird thing, (can anyone confirm this please?) that each of these zones when I went through on those days, only one zone had those sparkling balls you can fly through that give 1 resonance crystal and if you are level 80, they also give 1-2 weathered Harbinger crests and that was the zone I received the deepgrove root and the null slivers. (This toon is a dual gatherer).

I am making a wild guess that where these sparkling balls are, is where you can get the null slivers and deepgrove roots, once you have maxed your weekly KP drops.

Well, sorry to disappoint, but today I ran another alt through for mining only and went in each zone, Isle -> Deeps -> Hallowfall -> Azj-Kahet and I received 2 to 3 of the Null Slivers in each zone while levelling up mining from 48 to 100. I had already done the weekly KP quest and collected my 5 slabs of slate and the erosion polished slate. This crashes the theory of the sparkling orbs being the zone, which by the way was in the Ringing Deeps today (Oct 5).

I made a script to check how much catch-up knowledge you've earned.

Edit: This script shows what the current maximum is including all other sources of knowledge. If you stop short its because there is another source you are missing.

For some reason the script from the other comment says I'm missing 2 (118/120) but I've been collecting herbs for WEEKS now and never gotten the 2.

I have completed my weekly quest, gotten my 5 petals and 1 rose, and at this point have been farming for 3 hours. I am using vial of truesight and darkmoon fire water, with the weavers pact bonus. I have gotten a total of 24 of these in 3 hours... this drop rate sucks.

Can anyone explain how these work? My main DH has gotten plenty of these, but my alt monk has received zero. Running the script from one of the other comments, it tells me my monk has 156 of 156 catch up knowledge, but that makes no sense to me when my DH has 50 more total knowledge than my monk, and is still receiving deepgrove root drops. How can my DH be so far ahead in progression, while still receiving catch up, while my monk gets none?

These do NOT drop at the farm from any herbs grown by 翠绿之种

I planted about 200 Verdant Seeds at the farm in Hallowfall. There were 3 of us in the party, each with some level of catch up knowledge left to loot. Not a single Deepgrove Root dropped for us. Once we left the farm, the roots dropped as normal within a few node gathers.

Does anyone know if Perception increases your chance of gathering these in War Within? (In Dragonflight, Perception was almost definitively shown to increase your chance of gathering additional skill-up items.)

Worth noting the catch up items for gatherers (and enchanting which behaves as a gathering profession for knowledge gains) only start dropping once you've earned all your weekly points - including the weekly quest. So if you're starting a new gatherer character make sure you've handed in the quest to your profession trainer before you go out and spend hours farming

I've maxxed out all my specializations and I keep getting these dropping when I'm gathering. They can't be sold or transferred as far as I can see. What can I do with them? Are they worth keeping for any reason or should I just junk them?
