Just finished the fishing derby in Hallowfall, this was the last fish I needed for the achievement to get the mount. The lure buff to increase chances for this fish sometimes will disappear so I recommend buying multiple and I have only ever found them in Glimmerpools.

Got it in a glimmer pool. It took about 45 minutes to fish up. I'm 300 fishing +13 from the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole (I love it for the underwater breating) and +8 from Weaver's line. This one is just a pain. Can't do anything special to cheese it. Just RNG.

According to Fishing Journal, this one can be fished up from Glimmerpools in Isle of Dorn and Ringing Deeps. However, I obtained my first from the very first Glimmerpool in Azj-Kahet, with fishing skill around 120.

This thing is rare as hell even with 338 fishing + 500+ perception. I'd wager its worth it buying a Rainbowfish Lure if you want the derby mark

the lure for this fish has to be bugged. it is a 30 minute buff, but will disappear as soon as you catch one.

i have 14 of them and just came to see if there was any use besides inscription milling.

this was much easier than dornish pike. I fished 6 calm soothing waters on friday and another 5 on saturday and got ONE lol.

This fish can be milled by Scribes!
(don't do it, it gave me 3 珍珠颜料 which is around 20-25% of what you'd get with regular 菌丝花)

Hadn't realised how rare this bugger was until it was one of the derby goals. I got a single one with 2 minutes remaining on the derby buff. Got way more 尖刺绒杜父鱼 from glimmerpools, because of course I would.

I bought the Lure for the fishing derby. Found a Glimmerpool, caught the Sturgeon & it ate the buff so I had to buy another Lure. What a pain.

I'm going to assume this was just luck and nothing more, but in case I'm wrong it feels worth sharing. After circling Isle of Dorn 3 times in search of Glimmerpools, I picked up a Rainbowfish Lure and caught one on my first cast into the pool near the fishing trainer in Dornogal.

I bought a rainbow lure and then fished in open sea off isle of Dorn, caught specular rainbowfish on third cast. Got maxed out fishing and threw a couple of perception fish in for good measure, just in case. Good luck!

If you're looking for the trophy version of this fish for the Fishing Derby, don't even try to do it without a Specular Ranbowfish Lure. I have failed two different derbies after being unable to catch this fish during the 1-hr timeframe. Using the lure, I can now catch these on the first or second catch. Be aware that any fish you catch with the lure eats the lure, so you'll want to buy a few just in case.

When salvaged with 129 cooking skill (100 from profession, +29 from gear), one salvage of Specular Rainbowfish yields 3-6 Fresh Fillet. (~4.5 Fresh Fillet per 5 Specular Rainbowfish)

This can also be salvaged by scribes, but, as Golgoth found, it's not worth it.

Just started looking into derby participation today and was reading all these comments on the last fish I needed while fishing various pools (trophy specular rainbowfish). I was just getting ready to look up where to get the lures for this fish as directed by comments when the next glimmerpool yielded a trophy specular rainbowfish in Hallowfall without the lure. So if anyone's wondering, you don't need the lure (but it's probably still wise to grab it. When I caught it, I still had 27 minutes left on my timer to read and fish at the same time. Also my skill was 218 when I caught this with only like 5 threads used on my algari weaverline with an aquirite fisherfriend pole (which has 302 perception on it after applying the two threads I chose as my reward).

So to sum up:

* You don't (no longer?) NEED to have a lure applied to catch the trophy specular rainbowfish (but you may want it)
* I caught the trophy version with my fancy bop pole that had no lure applied, but does have an algari weaverline (with about 300 perception on the fishing pole)
* I was also under the cursed fish buff that adds perception
* I caught the trophy version from a glimmerpool in Hallowfall

Buy a 高光虹鱼鱼饵 then catch one out of the pond in Dornagal near the fishing trainer, or anywhere really.

Although the fishing journal says this comes from Glimmerpools in "Isle of Dorn, The Ringing Deeps, and Siren Isle" -- I have caught 3 in Azj-Kahet during today's derby.

Weird. Today I've spent 20 minutes with lure in the fishing pond near the quest giver (fishing derby quest) in Hallowfall and got nothing. Usually this does the thing for the trophy, but not today.
Teleported to Isle of Dorn and caught it on the second attempt.
I guess they updated the loot tables or it was very bad luck.
