Anybody figure out best place to farm these? if there is one that is....
I've been farming at 56.40 21.75. About the same as other places I've been.
At 71.16, 27.16 (near Kelya's Grave flight point)
54 x Viper Fish
43 x Mauve Stinger
2 x Midnight Salmon
1 x Trash
The pool at 36,71 (by The Lords of Water wq) is a good spot.
I stood at 40.81, 70.13 and fished for 200 casts. In this spot, I was never attacked by surrounding NPCs but some players did run through my casts a couple times. If that doesn't bother you, I think it was a great spot. At one point, I did fish out of a Mauve Stinger pool that spawned, so that will have impacted the ratio I ended with.
Out of 200 casts, I got:
Random Grey Gear x 4
I fished the swirling pool that leads down to The Eternal Palace for a while and it seemed to yield significantly more grey armor and weapons than the rest of Nazjatar. It's almost as if I was fishing up past adventurers old gear. RIP.
We all come here to find out where's the best spot.. but it looks like with BFA, they just made fishing a 50/50 drop between
anywhere in open water in Nazjatar. I guess you can search for actual Viper pools.. but I don't feel it's worth the effort. I mostly just fish at Newhome (for Horde).
So just pick a spot, relax, and happy fishing!
I have found, outside of pools (of course) that the 50-50 rule is prevalent. (Excepting 2-5% of trash and midnight salmon depending on your relationship with Blizzard's RNG.)
However, I have found a spot that is more 60-40, however whichever fish is the 60 depends on the day. Since I installed a fishing addon (approximately 2 months worth of data, I've not the patience for fishing all the time), I've 1940 catches at Nar'anan, on the top of the mini-waterfall where the prismatic crystal spawns.
My figures run:
Viper: 946 (48.8%)
Mauve: 864 (44.5%)
Salmon: 80 (4.1%)
The rest is trash - oh sorry, 2 Chums in there as well.
However, when I am fishing I am looking for one or the other, I rarely actually want both at the same time. So I will farm 1 or 2 hundred which is where I get my 60:40 from.
Monday I fished up 200 catches, I got 115 Viper; 80 Mauve and 5 trash/salmon.
Wednesday, 200 catches, 127 Mauve; 70 Viper and 3 salmon.
So I think, unless I have just been paying way too much attention, head for a river or small stream, don't avoid the pools (I ignore them personally), but sit downriver of them - the day the mauve pool is up, I get more of them down-stream, viper pool is up, more of them.
At the end of the day, it's only anecdotal evidence, but there's a viper pool there now, and that's what I'm after :)
Decided to farm this to see how well it would do in the AH on my server. I didn't want to bother flying around to find pools or risk getting attacked by mobs, so I chose a secluded spot at 51.85, 72.46. It's south of Newhome in Spears of Azshara on the far right of the map.
I spent approximately an hour and a half there with 421 casts, only 2 pools spawned in that time (one mauve stinger, one viper fish). I got:
200 Viper Fish
205 Mauve Stingers
9 Midnight Salmon
Not bad considering all I had to do was stand in one spot and press a couple of buttons on my mouse versus flying around to farm other Nazj mats and deal with mobs.
Farmed at horde quest hub pool, literally right near the portal.
62 Viper Fish
54 Mauve Stinger
1 Midnight Salmon
25 vendor trash items
You don't need a special spot or to leave the safety of the quest hub.
I just finished fishing (Alliance) in open water at 40,58.5 (my normal spot) and then 35,71.
After 2hrs. 20min, I had 650 casts. This was the breakdown:
338 mauve stinger (52%)
290 viper fish (44.6%)
19 trash pieces (2.9%)
3 midnight salmon (0.46%)
There is a small pool behind a building in The Hanging Reef /way 40.67, 55.75. At first there are pools of Viper fish, then some pool-less fishing gets you both Viper fish and Mauve Stingers. After 3 pools of Viper fish It started spawning pools of Mauve Stingers alternating with Viper fish. No fighting, and just a bit of patience. Turtles only dropped junk. Great place to cook . Viper fish give you the Aromatic fish oil. Bring plenty of !
