Hopefully this gives Battle rez to all classes.
The brink of death...
Why not just death? 🤔
Is this Alliance only?
It looks like engineers are finally getting combat resurrection!
The recipe seems to be added in the 8.1 PTR.
I think the most important thing will be figuring out what the actual chance to backfire is. If it is pretty high, then it is unlikely to be THAT useful.
It's not spent when used so no need to make more than 1 (or to wait for BfD to come out so you can farm rank 3 of Mekkatorque).
Edit: I just used it a 2nd time and now it comsumed the item so it either got hotfixed to where it's spent when used or it's just not a guarantee to happen (it successfully rezzed the person both times). I guess mine was extra "unstable".
Either way you have to be melee range of the person you're rezzing so... I don't super feel like making another one ever again lol.
The item goes into a 4 minute cooldown if someone in your raid uses a combat rez. You also need to be in melee range to use it.
Just ran a teeming Mythic plus and let me tell ya. This thing is hard to appreciate. It has a CAST TIME, and requires MELEE RANGE.
When you're surrounded by mobs and the tank died, and your team is slowly being massacred, you gotta target the dead guy, find him amongst all the dead mobs, run to melee range, stand there like a dork while the cast time ticks away, nope, get interrupted by a mob, okay try again, no wait its Quaking week and that interrupted it, okay try again, oh nope a mob did an aoe. Nevermind your team is dead.
I get that it can't be a pure battle rez, but they could have implemented EITHER the cast time, or the melee range, or the chance to backfire. All 3 seems excessive.
So how exactly does this backfire? Is a Brez charge consumed but nothing happens? Is the target unable to be Brezzed at all? Cant seem to find a good answer, and haven't encountered it in the limited testing thus far...
I've just done a couple of bad keys, with no one who could do a battle ress. So I had to use this device for 5-6 times: it always worked and the cast didn't stop even when damaged by volcanic.
Of course it's incredibly bad compared to a normal battle ress (melee range, cast time...), but in case a dps dies, this can save a key especially during tyrannical weeks. It's a little bit more difficult to not wipe if it's the tank or the healer that die, but not impossible.
And one time I used it twice during the same boss fight and I didn't notice any CD.
I ran a +11 Siege of Boralus last night with a group. On Hadal Darkfathom, I ended up using 4 Unstable Temporal Time Shifter. The stack that was on my person showed that the item was used and -1 each time i used it. It did not show any CD for the usage (enough time may have lapsed to stack?). As the above comment though, I did have issues with needing to run into melee range or the tank, get a brez off with a cast time. Then needing to stop DPS yet again, to run to the other party members who had died (who were fighting the boss as I rez'd the tank). All four times during this encounter, the Unstable Temporal Time Shifter successfully was used, without failing and/or backfiring. But the item surely saved from a wipe and we down'd Hadal and went to finish the run. There were no other brez classes in the group during this key, so +1 for Eng and saving the party! Hope this helps.
Has anyone else been able to use this in a raid? I tried the other night and even though I was standing on the person, my icon showed out of range.
This does not share a CD with the Goblin Jumper Cables, Gnomish Army Knife, or Ultimate Gnomish Army Knife. This effectively gives Engineers a second out of combat rez when you need to rez someone, and 1 combat rez in case you need to rez them in combat. I have used it 4 times and it's neither failed nor broken on me.
The absolute best use of this item, as a raid leader, is giving non-Combat Rez classes a way to see the combat rez CD. No longer do I have to shout 'HOW MANY MORE COMBAT REZ'S WE GOT?" or "DID WE USE OUR REZ YET?" I can simply look at the icon and know if we've used our Brez AND how long the remaining CD until we have one back up. In an absolute worst case scenario, I can personally rez someone with the item mid boss fight.
While having a combat rez is nice, having a second rez as an engineer on a non-rez class is this item's greatest strength. With the niche uses being icing on the cake.
If it fails to rez, it triggers
This is all the info i've been able to gather on this item:
-Range: 5 yards
-Cast time: 4 seconds - unaffected by haste, i've also seen comments claiming
doesn't work but i don't have a void elf to confirm.
-Health/Mana upon resurrection: random - 40-100%? (highest HP in my logs was 93% & lowest was 44%)
-Cooldown: 10 minutes - functions
the same as any other battle res (shared cooldown in raid encounter/mythic+ and can be reset by resetting a boss)
-Chance for item to break: ~40% (27 out of 67 casts broke the item)
-Chance for item to backfire: very rare - I've used this item ~90 times with no backfires. But it DOES happen. Need more data to determine % chance.
It rarely seems to be consumed on use. I've crafted way too many of them thinking it was a one time consumable.
It's probably a well-known thing by now but no one's seemed to mention the incredible usefulness of having this as a rogue w/ vanish making death skips in dungeons almost foolproof. Can't tell you how many times we've failed death skips even with 2 druids in group because they couldn't get brez off in time due to mobs killing them.
Yes, there is a new one for Shadowlands.
