Unlocks an appearance for this artifact
NOTE: There are reports that some of these tomes are not in their appropriate spots, suggesting that there may be a respawn timer associated with some of these.

Looking for these books on live, they don't seem to be here. I checked Netherlight Temple, Violet Citadel, Karazhan and Scholomance and none of the 4 were there. Currently level 110 with Disc Artifact if that is relevant.
edit: As of September 7th, I have complected my class campaign, I have the title "High Priest", and my Light's Wrath is level 17 (item level 865). Still no books to be found and Archivist Inkforge has nothing new to say.
So I made a ticket to find out what the deal was with our hidden artifact as people and myself are unable to do it.
Here's the official reply I got.
"I hope you’re having an awesome day and thank you for contacting Blizzard Customer Support .GM Naefelium here to help you today.I've just received your ticket , my apologies on not getting back to you sooner .
I'm afraid that at the moment there is an issue with the annals and that the developers are working to get this fixed as soon as possible.Hopefully this will be resolved shortly and thank you for contacting us in regards to this issue
I hope that I've been able to at least shed some light on your issue but should you need to contact us again please feel free to do so .I would also like to this opportunity to thank you for all the time you continue to spend with us in Azeroth .
Hope to see you on the Broken Isles :]
Blizzard Customer Support"
Just have to wait unfortunately, but at least now people won't worry and think they've missed something :)
There seemed to be some confusion in the comments and other sites about whether these tomes are bugged or not, since many people are reporting they aren't able to find the times (myself included). I put in a ticket, and four days later got this response:
"This is Game Master Beroddra. I understand that you're looking to find a hidden appearance for Light's Wrath, the discipline priest artifact weapon - a great task! While it may not be everything that you're looking for, all I can confirm as that any sort of hidden appearance for Light's Wrath that may exist is currently working as intended. It may take time for one to find everything required, but any sort of hints or assistance should be seeked out through the community. Fellow players or their fansites may help you."
Okay, I talked to a GM, and this is what he said.
"Thanks for contacting us.
Hidden Artifact appearances have not even been confirmed in game by development or official community blue posters. Currently, the only mention of these items are on third party fan sites (like WoWHead) that have found these looks in the game files.
That being said, it's obvious that players have been finding some of these hidden appearances, so there are some in game. However, these artifacts were hidden by development for a reason, and are not something support will offer any assistance finding due to this. These are intended to be hidden in areas that get players looking and talking so that they can work together to get these exclusive looks. Us giving hints on an individual level would seriously cheapen the efforts of development to hide these items, and cheapen the efforts of all the other players that have been scouring Azeroth for hints at these items.
While I can't confirm if all of these looks are currently in game or give any hints, I can verify that there are no known issue or bugs that would stop you from obtaining them if found. If you would like information to be public if all looks are currently obtainable, please be sure to press this on the forums for an official blue post to verify this.
Sorry we can't help here, but I can promise you once you finally get these exclusive looks it'll be worth it."
What he is saying here is that he can't tell us anything but we can copy this and put it on the forums.
My best guess? I think that the books for this hidden artifact appearance and most of them have been changed.
Currently on the beta (that is still up btw) the locations are still the same. Currently on live they are not in the same place. I will be looking EVERYWHERE and update this thread as soon as I find a hint. Thank you and I hope this helps.
Edit: added quote marks
Why do people ask GMs about junk like this, you do realize a GM is simply a Customer Support individual, they don't have access to the info you are trying to ask them. They generally check google and hope it has the answer you're looking for. As you can see from all the conflicting GM reports.
Assume the Annals are exactly what we're to look for and likely it was bugged and hasn't made it to the live version yet.
Confirmed that there's an unknown preset requirement added to the live version that wasn't in the beta. For "hidden" purposes. Clever Blizzard.. let the search begin!
I hit Artifact Knowledge 3 yesterday.
It said that Kel'thuzad had something to do with the creation of Lights Wrath. So I thought to try and kill him. Sadly it didn't give anything.
I have tried so many different things in vain, and I am (sadly) starting to believe that it is time-gated.. Most of all because of the Ret Palas hidden appearance, which required 10 Aritfact Knowlegde. (or something like that)
And since our appearance is a !@#$ing tome... and the guy who is a part of the questline is an archivist.. well you get my point.
I really hope that this isn't the case, since it is a really beautiful design, and the color variations looks so good. (Especially with the whole complete a 100 dungeons stuff)
There has been a blue post confirming that the hidden skins are in the game and are not bugged. So as long as all necessary content is released, they should be obtainable at the time of writing:
We can confirm that the processes for obtaining these alternate appearances are all in the game and functioning properly. Once you’ve met all the appropriate requirements – some of which involve content that hasn’t yet been released, or will take some time to complete – the appearance will be granted to your character.
I spoke with a few people and according to some of the response I got, it's linked to Artifact Knowledge. I'll make a ticket just to be sure and see if I get any other response.
Just spoke with Archivist Inkforge after reaching Artifact Knowledge 4, and it starts the whole "quest". He gave me "The Annals of Light and Shadow" and asked me to recover all the tomes.
Books are obtainable immediately after learning Artifact Knowledge 4. Dialogue with Inkforge changes at this point too.
I've got the prove, it's linked to Artifact Knowledge, i'm at 4th point and now i can start to collect books
I made a video guide on how to obtain this hidden appearance.
Watch the video here:
For anyone confused about how to 'Combine' the books - You go back to your Order Hall and speak to
and he will combine them for you :)
Hoping someone can confirm.
I have been artifact lvl4 for a bit and I even got the quests. I couldn't find the books in the places listed until today. Only new thing I got today was revered with the nightfallen. Could this be a requirement?
I really really REALLY wish blizz would give us clues to the whereabouts of hidden stuff like this is. Maybe some would enjoy some hints rather than the direct answer.
Archivist Inkforge tires of the rudeness of the youth. Perhaps an adventurer may be able to help change his mind.
She searches for the answers of our ancient artifacts. She may no longer have use of this tome now.
Vestments may empower the priest, but knowledge is our true strength.
The Kirin Tor have been known to collect ancient writings. Perhaps one may be in their possession.
Eyir’s chosen bask in the light, but the shadows are always near…watching.
The Nightborne have chosen to ally with the Legion. If such a powerful tome were in their hands, they may be able to unleash great destruction upon their enemies.
Forsaken priests walk a fine line between the Light and Shadow. The Queen herself may have sought this power too.
Lord Ravencrest’s manor is full of great history.
The Scarlet Onslaught has taken fight to the Scourge. Along with one of these books.
Truly dark magics are studied in this school.
The Scarlet Crusade’s shame must be removed from history. Purged by fire, but one of these sacred books is at risk of being scorched!
The Guardian kept a great library of tomes and scrolls. He is bound to have a volume.
The book in New Hearthglen has a respawn somewhere between 1-2 hours. You have to claim it fast if it's being camped by other priests, or come in the wee hours of the morning.
Or, if you're REALLY lucky, you might end up in a zone without any priests camping it. Good luck with that, though.
For those that already have the hidden appearance, Here's how to track your hidden artifact appearance color variants through achievement progress:
/run AddTrackedAchievement(11152) - Complete 30 dungeons using a hidden artifact appearance. (This achievement does not display correctly)
/run AddTrackedAchievement(11153) - Complete 200 world quests using a hidden artifact appearance.
/run AddTrackedAchievement(11154) - Kill 1,000 players using a hidden artifact appearance.
Check all your hidden artifact appearance progress using this script
/run local q,x,_,a,b = GetAchievementCriteriaInfo,0 for i=1,11 do _,_,_,a,b = q(11152,i) x=a end local _,_,_,c,d = q(11153,1) local _,_,_,e,f = q(11154,1) print("Dungeons: "..x.."/"..b) print("WQs: "..c.."/"..d) print("Kills: "..e.."/"..f)
Note: Completing any of these achievements will complete them for all your other specializations on that character, regardless of having unlocked the consumable items for your other specs.
The correct achievement ID's were shared by hamza1306 on the WoW subreddit -
The script was shared by MMOSimca on the same topic on WoW's subreddit -
Video with all the locations of the 12 Annals :). Hope it helps.
Got really lucky with the book in Hearthglen, 5 priests were sitting on the bookshelf including myself, and just as I was moving to keep from going afk, it spawned.
I was lucky and only had to wait 20 minutes.
apparently, u cant take books being AK 5, coz i took first 3 books being AK lvl4, and now im AK 5 and i dont get books that i havnt taken yet.
anyone can confirm same problem?
update: i fixed that via talking to the guy again, he gave me book #1 and now i can continue collecting other books that i havnt taken yet before!
Anyone else had a problem where you've got all twelve tomes but Inkforge won't give you the option to combine them? Any solutions found? :(
You can kill rares in shadow with disc loot spec and get the drops.
I have struggled for 2 weeks to get this done!
Here are some information that i can share after all of the mess i went through.
Artifact Knowledge =4
Some books have
starts by talking to
the dwarf on the bench
in the class order hall.
this hidden skin chain make sure you
within the week!
There is a
hidden weekly reset
some of the books
, even if you have them in bag, you actually don't!
If you went through the
hidden weekly reset
, then go back to
the dwarf on the bench
in the class order hall to re-start it.
Under no circumstance delete or throw away some of the books
because then the quest chain might become broken.
Below is a more
list of the
numerical order of each volume
and the corresponding
"hidden" quest IDs
The script will tell you (true) or (false) if you are okay on the book or not.

Solution to being unable to hand in the 12 books and receive your new appearance.
Run through the
script by abdomari
and find out which book(s) are reported as false. Delete the amount of books that are reported as false from your stack of 12 books in your inventory. In my case it was only 1 that needed to be deleted. Loot the book(s) again that where reported as false and you should be able to hand it in and get your appearance. If it's a book in the class order hall you might need to exit it and re-enter before being able to loot the book again.
I ran into the same issue people are having with handing the 12 books after collecting them. I'm unable to complete it and get the new appearance. I found a comment by
which included script lines to determine which book was looted and which wasn't (true or false reported by each script line output).
I ran through the scripts and for me it returned false for the book at
Class Order Hall - Juvess the Duskwhisperer
. To me it seems the issue might be with this book. If you are running into this problem run through the script lines in
and report it to Blizzard using Submit Bug and perhaps also leave a comment here. I'm curious if it's the same book for everyone.
Is the Spawntime on the Tomes in Class Hall really 60 min? That's Lunacy!
This appearance seems to be bugged on Worgen Male (patch 7.1). Just got it, and the "book side" of the staff is facing forward when its sheathed on my back. But its facing as expected when i transform into my human form.
Any other races with this problem?
For anyone wondering
karazhan, now that the raid has been revamped, I can confirm that it still spawns in Old Kara, as of 12/22/16.
1) After having acquired all 12 books, if you cannot turn them into the fellow who starts it for you in the order hall, then run the scripts that abdomari has created in his comments. If a script returns "false" then this means that you need to get it again - most likely because the internal quest timer reset on you.
Do not delete books from your bag
. I had 14 by the time that I was done because I had to get 2 of them twice due to the quest being reset on me. However, having 14 of them was no problem at all, and I was able to turn them into the fellow in the order hall to finish up and get the hidden appearance.
Really super annoyed that not one of the posts under this topic mentions that the books are not a 100% drop from the rare mobs!
So as if running around all over the place isn't enough, be prepared to have to farm rares.
edit: My bad, I read the earlier post that said you have to do this within a week. So even though I had started it a long time ago and never finished it (I had 4 books in my bags). I have to restart it as if I'd never done it. Very weird.
I got this in an hour or two. It was really easy. I feel a lot of players are mistaken and sending around misinformation with this hidden appearance. I'm fairly certain there is no respawn timer for any of these books- I just think it tends to bug out. I waited 15 minutes for the 2 books inside Netherlight Temple and nothing was happening. I logged out and logged back in--they were both instantly up. Try that if you cant see them. Plus all of the rare elites dropped the books 100%, even in shadow spec. I think you must be 110 and you must have talked to Archivist Inkform, especially if you waited after reset to finish. Good luck!
It would be so awesome if SOMEONE mentioned that it's OLD Karazhan we're talking about here. I was searching and searching in the new Upper Kara and didn't find a damn thing!
Trying to do a coordinate thing for all points. So far I do not know if you can place markers for dungeon maps:
/way Dalaran:Broken Isles 30.3 51.1 The Annals of Light and Shadow - Volume I - at the bookshelf
/way Dragonblight 73.3 73.0 The Annals of Light and Shadow - Volume III - Lef, 2nd room, ground floor, ontop of the bookshelf
/way Netherlight Temple 58.7 24.6 The Annals of Light and Shadow - Volume II - on the table - has respawn timer
/way Netherlight Temple 37.9 25.3 The Annals of Light and Shadow - Volume VI
/way Western Plaguelands 69.35 73.14 Scholomance Entrance - Right side of instructor Chillheart on the right side last bookshelf
/way Tirisfal Glades 82.42, 33.03 Scarlet Halls entrance -The Annals of Light and Shadow - Volume VII Last Boss on the leftern side
/way Deadwind Pass 47 73 Entrance Karazhan - The Annals of Light and Shadow - Volume XI - After the curator - rightern side - hard to describe
/way Suramar 33.7, 15.0 Artificer Lothaire - The Annals of Light and Shadow
/way Azsuna 65.1, 56.5 Chief Bitterbrine - The Annals of Light and Shadow
/way Val'sharah 38.7, 53.2 Black Rook Holde - The Annals of Light and Shadow
/way Stormheim 63.6 74,6 Inquisitor Ernstenbok - The Annals of Light and Shadow
Done with best care, but I have already collected some books. I hope it helps collecting them all.
Adding info: If the rares arent dropping or you cant see a book try talking to the dwarf again, that fixed the issue of rares not giving the needed loot and that same night I got the one in Hearthglen too.
Also when you talk to the dwarf he might give you a "Extra" book. If he does then you'll need 13 instead of 12. When the rares bugged he gave us a extra each but it didnt let us combine them till we went and got the last book which gave us 13 including that extra. I wouldnt suggest trying to delete the book till after you finish or you might mess up the line...
If you like to make screenshots or videos of the unlocking scene like me, dont do it right infront of the dwarf. For me the temple disappeared and I only saw the nether.
I went to Deathwing's dungeon and It appears that with the weapon you are able to understand the language of the moobs there. They appear as whispers in your chat. Has anyone experience anything like this?
7.3.5 (just before pre-patch)
Just a heads up for people who were part way through this process of collecting the books - there's a possible bug.
I had collected 5 of the annals about a year ago but never finished it off.
I decided to do it before BFA and I went around and picked up 7 more books giving me a total of 12.
When I came back to turn it in I found that he didn't give me an option and when I ran the /scripts it came back saying that I was missing some of the ones I had previously done.
So TL;DR - It's possible to have 12 annals in your inventory, but not have them count towards the 12 that are needed to trigger the completion and get the hidden appearance item. Something (perhaps the overpowering of our artifact weapons in Silithus?) has caused an issue where it resets your progress.
Would be interested to hear from anyone else who has had this experience
Been camping this book now for over an hour and hasn't re spawned at all. anyone else have this issue?
Edit: it took well over an hour almost two to re-spawn and nobody else was in area.
So can you still get it after Legion or not?
Do you need the spec active?
Do you need to have the item equipped?
What are the spawn timers?
I do not mind putting the time into it but has to be available still.
How easy is Black Rook Hold to solo now? Is it doable as a fresh dinged 60, or do I need to gear up a bit first? I know I only need to do the first boss and some trash.
