Looks like a little black flower. Most nodes are in difficult to reach places (in the middle of mob camps, high-level elite areas, etc).

Apparently they can also be found in Heavy Fel Iron Chests. I got one while I was grinding for Arakkoa Feathers at the Shalassi patch southeast of The Bone Waste. Black Lotus is not listed in the "contains" list of the Heavy Fel Iron Chest, so I guess it's a very rare object to get this way.

Thought I'd add that this is likely an homage to the Magic: The Gathering card "Black Lotus," which is the most valuable card for that game, as it is extremely rare.

The graphic in the game even looks similar to the picture on the card.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Black Lotus is a herb that was originally from Conan the Barbarian, many years before Magic the Gathering Existed. Over the years since then, it has been portrayed as a highly prized herb that has either been a recreational drug, or a poison.

Yup, the term was coined in Conan the Barbarian. Conan and Subatie are walking down a sleazy alley and Subatie says " Black Lotus, Stigian..the finest..chew slowley this is the good stuff!" Whereafter Conan gets messed up and punches a camel( after the camel spat on him, edited for poster below.). Most likely first used in the writings of Robert E Howard, but I have not personaly read him, only saw the movie so I am not sure where it appears first. Movie is circa 1982 and the writings of Howard appear as early as 1932.

With the lowering of level of Winterspring and *especially* Eastern Plaguelands, the nodes to find these no longer spawn in either location. I believe the only places to find these nodes are presently Blasted Lands and Silithus, now. I.E. the top level zones.

Confirmed a definite spawn point in Blasted Lands as of 4.3 anyways, very southern most part in the middle of the Red Reaches. Was doing archaeology and spotted it.. Not bad, as I can send them to my alchemist and make some level 50ish flasks now for fun. :)

i looked in all the places listed and on 'farm lotus' maps and found zero after about 80 minutes. I recommend spending your time earning gold (or just paying up front) and offering to pay 30g+ a pop to someone who has an old guild or personal stock they don't need anymore.

I love to level twink and Elixir of Titans is just excellent at lvl 50 so I bought up like 60 at 50g each.

Confirmed method for farming Black Lotus: (Please thumbs up to help others, I had a hard time with this).
I flew around Silithus for hours on end - getting nothing. I went to Blasted Lands to try my luck, flew around 3 rounds and found nothing.

What I did, was follow the path of the dream foil, while herbing them. After "removing" all the dream foils - I found 2x Black Lotus on the second round flying in Blasted Lands.

Black Lotus and Dream foil is now working same was a Khorium ore, spawning in the same spot randomly after herbing a previous herb (In this case Dream Foil in Blasted Lands)

Felwood is the place to be. On the map, down below the ruins of Jaedenar - where the druids and jadefire mobs are fighting. I found 6 just in that small area. I didn't stick around to see the respawn rate but I think that's pretty good. If you're high enough lvl - easy peasy.

I just found one at Surwich in the Blasted Lands behind the corral where the Pinto and Palomino are kept. I have been playing Wow since 2006 and this is the eighth Black Lotus I have ever found!

I can't believe if you tell me that I'm just unlucky! The time I passed here prove that I'm not an unlucky guy here. No Black Lotus, I need one, just one. In fact blasted land is full of Dreamfoil, especially on the circle road for Black Lotus. So they should change the name of Blasted Land for DREAMFOIL LAND! (っ^‿^)っ No! Found one in blasted land the tainted forest, 39.42 75.22. When I tried to take the flower, it says need 300 herbalism, realise I was at 276. So ive farm other flowers until 300, came back, the black lotus was still there. Gave me exactly 1. Now I'm lucky! AYO, TRUE STORY! (found it after 1 hour of farming, approximatively)

Pre-Cata, these herbs had their own specific farming nodes. During that time, only two lotus spawned at any one time. I have not farmed these after cats, specifically, but do know they do not respawn in their old locations.

Despite Patch 6.0 allowing herbs to be gathered at any skill level, you cannot gather Black Lotus under skill level 300.

With the new leveling revamp in 7.3.5, I only found one node of black lotus from 1 to 60. This was found in wintersprings. It did not sell in the auction house due to not many recipes requiring this reagent so don't bother trying to sell it. Just sell to a vendor.

Best way to get Black Lotus you ask?

Goto Light's Hope Chapel. There is a field of mutant Black Loti...a Blacker Lotus is in there on occasion. Requires 300 skill. I got 4 from my loot!

Me: level 45 druid, locked into the Warlords timewalking campaign. Following GatherMate2 points in the old Blasted Lands, I found one at 6:18 AM, and another at 6:52 AM -- 34 minutes apart. One was probably (usually) a dreamfoil node, but one was definitely (usually) a golden sansam node. Just putting that out there, for anyone else who's trying to figure out if the old spawn rate data is still accurate.

Update: I quit at 7:55, having found nothing else. Far as I know, for the great majority of the time, I was the only one there. I saw one other druid at one point, but they stayed in the zone for maybe five minutes.

These are even more rare since many zones have been lowered to include leveling for general questing on old content. I found one today in "as it was" Silithus at 41.23 behind one of the enormous purplish/orange crystals in the area. I also found one at 26.22 a few minutes later. You must ask ZIDORMI located at 78.21 to change the area to appear as it was before " the wound in the world" appeared to get them to spawn. It's also worth noting at the time of this content the mount speeds were significantly lower. I found I was missing nodes flying with the current flying mount speeds of the Dragonflight expansion. It may be easier to find if on a ground mount.

In Dragonflight 10.0.7, Black Lotus is used by alchemists to create Gurubashi Mojo Madness. This potion is needed by players who want to farm Zul'Gurub for the replacement recipes that were previously removed. You use the potion on the summoned campfire from the Brazier of Madness, and then the mobs will be friendly and you can interact with Blood Piles and trade in Bijous for a chance at the recipes.

Alchemists with 300 Classic alchemy skill learn the recipe for Gurubashi Mojo Madness by interacting with the Tablet of Madness.

If they are going to require Lotus for decor crafting. Blizzard -needs- to up the drop/spawn rate. Farming this in the standard Silithus spot is brutal.

What's more surprising is that there is a dev out there that knows this item exists, they're probably aware of the rarity too. The rest of the recipes that use it require just 1 of the herb. And they thought "yep. 8. 8 for the housing table".

Just in case people start to believe they don't spawn anymore...
I just did a few laps of Silithus and found two. They were both growing in the "known" spawn locations.
This is on retail.

My anecdotal report: I did several circuits of Winterspring, Silithus (pre-giant-sword), and Plaguelands and saw zero. I did a circuit of Blasted Lands and saw none, switched to "pre-invasion" and found ONE node. I decided to harvest every herb in the zone for an hour or so to see if I could force any respawns but never saw another Black Lotus node.

I found another website that claims only one Black Lotus node will spawn in a zone at any given time, and that's on a 1-hour timer.

I flew over to Light's Hope Chapel for 深黑莲花. Upon arrival, I saw the node on my mini-map for less than a second before it disappeared. Someone had JUST harvested it (they were celebrating themselves as I landed). Every time I have returned to this spot since, there are 3 to 5 people camping the spot, no matter the time of day.

So for a few hours of my time, I got a single Black Lotus. I don't need an apothecary table in my house this bad.

Just adding my data here:

I flew Silithus pre-sword for about 1.5hrs and ended up with two Black Lotus.

I collected during the evening (starting at 11pm server time) and there were at least two other herb gatherers collecting with me.
I collected both known spawn nodes per GatherMate2 as well as herb nodes not flagged to spawn Black Lotus. I ended up getting one of my collections from a known spawn and one from an unknown spawn (picture uploaded).
My first Black Lotus was collected 24 mins in and the second was collected 49 minutes after that.

Definitely a grind but I did also collect a lot of other herbs that should sell for an amount equel to or exceeding the cost of one Black Lotus on the AH so I am counting my farming results as three Black Lotus for 1.5hrs of farming.

I've camped Silthus, Winterspring, Burning Steps and Eastern Plaguelands from 1am to 7am. No joy. Didn't find any Black Lotus. I farmed all the herbs, ore and lumber I could find and sold it on the AH. I made thousands so far. My realm is Sargeras and Black Lotus is selling for almost 6k. Any tips on farming BL I could use and would greatly appreciate. Good luck to you all!

Just in case you are wondering why you aren't seeing any Black Lotus herb nodes appearing on your map. ** MAKE SURE YOU HAVE REACHED 300 IN CLASSIC HERBALISM ** If you have are not maxed out in Classic Herbalism, you will not see a single Black Lotus node. Also, depending on your server cluster, you might have a lot of competition.

You don't need to have max skill in Classic Herbalism. I have just gathered one with only 169.
