(Update): They've changed the image to "inv_misc_food_draenor_rawrylakegg". Much better! ;-)
The image currently being used for this item is "inv_misc_food_meat_rawtigersteak" (which looks like a chunk of red meat -- you can even see hints of marbling in the flesh, when you look closely).
A chunk of red meat does
bear any resemblance to any type of "egg" with which I have any familiarity. This image bears no resemblance to any form of avian egg I've ever seen, nor does it resemble any type of roe that I've seen. (If the marbling was more regular, one could possibly see a resemblance to salmon or tuna steak...but an egg?...sorry, no way.)
A bit bizarre they don't drop off of rylaks right now. Can only be bought through a trading post for 40
for a stack of 5.
They drop off of all rylaks now, no trading post required!
One of the flesh/meats used in the Warlords of Draenor expansion.
The expansion brought us five new animal meats, eight new fish flesh, and one egg.
The one, lonely egg:
Note that stacks of
(5, 10 or 20 depending on size of fish) give
instead of flesh when filleted.
You can find them in the nests in Darktide Roost in SMV.
The best place I have found to obtain these is in
. If you are needing these for
, then this is also a good place to get the
The spawns are very fast.
If you're Alliance and not yet exalted with Council of Exarchs, Darktide Roost is a great farm spot for these. You get 5 or 6 rep for each Rylak Matron you kill and Wowhead has them as 59% dropchance (as of this comment's posting) which is one of the highest anywhere.
Darktide Roost (the island south of Shadowmoon Valley) has a ton of Darkwing Matrons with a good drop rate. Won't be so hot when the Roost is the Apex Crystal daily, but any other day, there's hardly anyone there.
I haven´t really decided yet if the
are good for
farming, but here are the pro´s and con´s:
+ easilly accessible from the FP Akeeta´s Hovel in Shadowmoon Valley - they are just over the bridge in the Spires of Arak, left and right from the bridge
+ scenery is kinda cool ^^
- they are well hidden and spread out, so you need a targeting macro to find all of them
- ranged have a clear advantage for pulls
There is about 10 of them + one rare, with 50% drop chance and about 5 min respawn.
Be carefull not to kill them before they are near, else they are too far to loot or trapped in the mountain.

Farmer's Guide to Rylak Egg
First things first, I don't have too high of an ilvl, so the amount of loot I gain from farming may be lower than you, if you happen to have a higher ilvl character.
Secondly, I use a
in order to farm these guys, since the
ability is extremely useful when the mobs are out of reach and the zone phases when you try to get too near them. In order to get Fetch, you'll need to speak with
in Sholazar Basin and buy
Pet Training Manual: Fetch
When your pet is using Fetch, you need to
at the end of the cast. If you keep moving, the pet will loot nothing for you. But you can click the mob and use the spell again, of course. Just...don't move.
If you don't have a hunter, but are an Engineer, you can use
to get the loot you need.
Macro I use:

Head up the path toward Stonefang Outpost and run back and forth along the ridge where you'll find several Rylak that have a fast respawn rate. Careful not to get too close to your garrison.
10 Rylak Eggs
11 Raw Boar Meat
62 Sumptuous Fur
This section takes you up near Colossal's Fall and further up along the cliffside. Some of the Rylak's will be flying high in the sky, but they'll dip down low enough for a ranged to hit them.
14 Rylak Eggs
31 Sumptuous Fur
Of course, if you don't feel like farming these, you can always check out the
list of traders
that sell them!
These can be purchased from the Trading Post Garrison Building.
25 Garrison Resources in exchange for 5 Rylak Eggs.
Darktide Roost is the best place I've found for farming these at level 100. If you've already completed the garrison campaign for Darktide Roost, you'll have the flightpath. If not, it's just south of Socrethar's Rest and easily accessible by swimming.
are all around the center of the main island. The drop rate for me was around 50%. If you're a skinner, these also become very lucrative. In the time it took me to farm 30 eggs, I accumulated over 100 skins. Top it off with the +5 Council rep for every rylak killed and it's a pretty sweet deal.
I found the best route was to start in the middle of the eastern half and go to the west before looping back. By the time I got back to where I started, they'd all respawned. However, do keep in mind this is one of the spots for both an Apexis daily and a garrison campaign, so you may not be the only one there unless you're there off-peak or on a small server.
Just to add some specifics to Philthee's comment: If you go to 46.55, 55.87 there are two rylaks that spawn there. One is on a ledge just above your head but you can loot it. The other is just to the right of that and he is on the ground. I kill one then the other then about 30 seconds later rinse and repeat.
Wanted to provide some BfA 8.2 perspective, I decided to try the Darktide Roost and it was excellent. Never ran out of things to kill and the adolescent in the small pools on the ground were almost a 100% drop rate too.
Pro tip: druids can fly high, target the circling mob, drop flight form, moonfire, wait for combat to end and then switch back to flight form before hitting the ground. Breaks up the monotony :-)
