Welcome to Wowhead's Shadowlands Mining profession guide. Here we will explain how to level Mining from 1-150, overview of Shadowlands mining nodes, where to farm ore, and secrets to successful ore farming in Shadowlands.

Regular and Rich nodes are familiar to Miners, but Elusive nodes are a new feature to Zereth Mortis. An Elusive node is just that -- it's hard to get to for one reason or another. Most of these are found on top of rocks or structures that you can't reach without some form of assistance. Spells such as

will all work in most cases. Fortunately Flying is relatively easy to acquire in Zereth Mortis and will remove most impediments to gathering Elusive nodes entirely.
Why is Mining Useful in Shadowlands?
Mining is a useful gather and can be a good money-maker.
Mining, like Herbalism, gives you a small amount of experience when you gather a mine. This helps leveling up from 50-60 -- every bit counts!
Mining is primarily allied with

Making Gold with Mining
Since Mining is the main source of materials for three professions, there's a fairly constant need for mining products. Two of these professions, Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting, can make Legendary base pieces, most of which require vast amounts of materials to create, and among the hardest to find. Many people who cannot do these professions or mine may wish to gather the necessary materials for Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting friends to make their Legendary base items. These will require hundreds of ores and gems, which you may be more than happy to sell them!

Shadowlands Mining Equipment
You can use any existing items for Mining in Shadowlands, or none at all. There are two items worth mentioning:
暗影界采集
is a Glove Enchant made by Enchanters that increases gathering speed for Herbalism, Skinning, and Mining. This is a very low level enchant in Shadowlands, and since the components are inexpensive, likely you will find many Enchanters making these for skill.

gives +10 to Mining skill and is sold by

Shadowlands Mining Deposits
Shadowlands ore has two types of mining deposits: Normal and Rich. Rich deposits can yield up to three times as many Ore or Stone as a Normal deposit, though are very rare. Yields also depend on Mining skill, as well as the RNG. You will get lower yields at lower levels, so it can pay to use any +Mining items you can get.
Seams, introduced in Warlords of Draenor, have not been found in Shadowlands.

Mined goods are primarily used by Blacksmithing, Engineering, and Jewelcrafting, but are used by a few others.. This list is likely incomplete because some recipes' ingredients are not yet known.

Leveling Shadowlands Mining
Mostly, leveling Mining is simply a matter of getting out and hitting the slopes -- in this case, rocky slopes.
All nodes -- both regular and rich -- are available to mine right from the beginning. You skill up equally on all types of ore; the difference with level is yield. The higher level your mining becomes, the more ore and stone you will get out of a node.
It doesn't matter which of the four Covenant zones you use, since no mine gives particular advantage for skilling. That said, some zones are far easier for mining than others.
Where to Farm Ore in Shadowlands
Like in previous expansions, Shadowlands mining involves running around looking in rocky areas for Mines. However, there are some important things to understand about the way deposits seem to spawn in Shadowlands that differs somewhat from previous expansions.
Un'goro Crater is an example of what will NOT work in Shadowlands -- a loop route that involves going along the edges of high mountain peaks. If you try this in a place with that kind of terrain, such as Maldraxxus, you're going to be sorely disappointed because that isn't where the ore is spawning.
In Shadowlands, ore deposits nearly always spawn
on top
of rocky ridges along their edges, not so much in the caverns or cliffs below these ridges. If you see a terrain feature such as the one pictured below, your best bet is to run up on top of the ridge -- ignore passing below it underneath the overhang. Mines rarely pop below these ridges. You will find one or two very occasionally (for example, I'm only aware of two such spawn points in all of Bastion), but the vast majority will be on top.
The same goes for deep caverns and gorges, like the one pictured below. You may find a couple lonely deposits down in the gorge, but the rest will be around the top (and away from the tightly packed monsters that generally inhabit gorges, which is a bonus).
When looking at a map, check for any evidence of mountain/hilly terrain and ridges. If you've never read a terrain map, the small tick lines along the edge point toward the lower terrain, so stay on the side of the lines away from the tick lines. This will give you the greatest chance of finding mines.
Mines can appear underwater, but rarely do so in Shadowlands.
Where to Farm

in Bastion

is the best zone for leveling mining, and the only place to find
珀银矿石
. It's a very large, open zone, and many Neutral monsters in heavy mining areas (and the hostile mobs are generally not overly crowded and easy to deal with, and few pesky Elites to deal with). There are some inconvenient terrain changes at times, but the map is clearly marked with openings to get up onto different plateaus and many, many rocky ridges to choose from. Some of the very large plains have rocky bits stuck in the middle; don't ignore those.
The map below shows a good route that has you running along many fruitful ridges with a minimum of hostile mobs. The switchbacks take a little getting used to, particularly the one you get onto by Aspirant's Rest that goes up to the left of the temple in back. Go all the way up the switchbacks to the top to start your loops. Staying to the outer edges of the ridges not only brings the highest node density, it also avoids the few hostiles that inhabit these areas. For double gatherers, this has the advantage of being very similar to the best herbalism route, and there are many neutral skinnable mobs. Bastion is a farmer's dream.
The northern parts of the zone have nodes, but they are more spread out, harder to run, and more likely to have lots of hostile mobs to delay your farming.
One note about the area southwest of Aspirant's Rest: you will be running the lowest ridge on a back and forth route here, one level down from the road.

in Maldraxxus
Put simply,

is a pain for mining.
The area in mining play is almost exclusively outside the four corner House areas (there are some nodes here but not enough to bother for the amount of work, restricting it to the expanded area around the Theater of Pain and over into Glutharn's Decay. Many of the nodes are in areas with tightly-packed hostile mobs and wandering elites, particularly in the eastern and western sections. Plus, many of Maldraxxus' terrain features look rocky, but are in fact just really knobby mushrooms, so you can be led astray trying to eyeball the terrain. Unless you really need
髓硫矿石
ore or you're there for other reasons, don't do your mining leveling and general farming in Maldraxxus.
That said, you can run the outer perimeter of the Theater of Pain area and do acceptably well with as few entanglements as Maldraxxus can offer (which is still a lot). From this route, you'll be able to see a good way in either direction and do fairly well. For the more daring (or the stealthers/AoEers), it's worth taking an extra trip off Glutharn's Decay, marked in the yellow dots off the right side of the map.

in Ardenweald

is a close second to
晋升堡垒
in terms of mining ease, for the same reasons. I'm not as fond of it personally because it seems like the best areas were also those that were heavily populated with hostile mobs. There are plenty of rocky ridges, though, and it shares many of the advantages of Bastion as far as open terrain.
Ardenweald can be run in a cloverleaf, with the center point being Refugee Camp. You can also just run the outer edge of this loop, but you will miss a fair amount of mining goodness in the middle. Ardenweald can be frustrating as they often hide nodes behind trees and up root-strewn ridges, but there's plenty here to keep a miner busy.

's mining is restricted mostly to the southern half, although I also very much liked the western area around Sinfall. There are some great gorges there, and quite decent mining for a fairly small area. This is probably a better zone if you need

and isn't as dense and rich a zone for less directed farming. Revendreth also gets some downvotes for big terrain elevation changes that will be much easier to deal with once flying becomes available.
Revendreth does not lend itself well to a loop route, as much of its terrain is taken up by large urban areas that are packed full of hostile Venthyr and not packed full of mining nodes. This up-and-back route with a few small loops and suggested up-and-back areas goes between Pridefall Hamlet and Sanctuary of the Mad flight points. This is also some of the best area for herbalism and skinning as well, so the farming areas are all pretty well defined in this zone.
Two things to note here:
First, Dessication Ridge, the cavern south of Sinfall, has nodes on both sides. However, it's not possible to run the east side of the ridge all the way around (there's a restriction that prevents this), so it's probably faster just to run the west edge and get to better terrain.
Second, the dotted route marks an alternate route up to to the elevator. This is to avoid the gatekeeper mob

if you plan to farm here.
Where to Farm

is about a 50/50 shot with zone ore -- you'll get about half
苷铜矿石
with whatever the zone ore is. Unless you need to farm a particular type of ore, stick with Bastion or Ardenweald if you need to target Laestrite.
Where to Farm
阴铁矿石
Elethium is found primarily in dedicated nodes in Korthia and The Maw. It's also found as a possible rare mine from Laestrite nodes, and is rarely found in the main Covenant zones. However, for targeted Elethium mining, Korthia is your best bet.
Shadowlands Mining World Quests
Each of the four Covenant zones has its own Mining World Quests. You must have a Shadowlands Mining skill of at least 25 for these to show up. Completing one of these quests rewards +1 Mining , experience, and 125 reputation with the local zone faction.
If you are doing the normal storyline, these quests will not be available until World Quests open at level 60. Characters leveling through Threads of Fate with the appropriate skill level can do these starting at level 50, after choosing their Covenant and picking their first questing area.
For this reason, if you are leveling through Threads of Fate, I strongly encourage doing what you need to do to push any Profession skills to 25 as soon as you can to take advantage of these easy skill points, experience, and credit toward your zone completions.
