Welcome to Wowhead's pet battle collection guide for the release of Shadowlands, patch 9.0. This guide will cover how to get every pet that is initially released with Shadowlands. This guide has currently had the most recent updates as of a few days before Shadowlands. At this stage, some things remain not specifically sourced (Torghast pets). Some of these pets sources are speculations (world drops - I have noted so), or have not been found yet. This guide will regularly update as new information comes to light.
What's New in Shadowlands for Pet Battles?
In Shadowlands, we're going to get a lot of new pets, with a variety of new abilities, as well as changes to old ones. We'll also be getting the usual world quests and associated trainers. We're also getting quite a few new pet battle achievements. Note, we're not getting a pet battle dungeon this patch. Here's a more detail list of what we're getting:

New Pet Battle Achievements in Shadowlands
In Shadowlands, we're getting the usual array of achievements. We're actuallly getting a Family Battler achievement quite early on in the expansion, which is surprising, but welcome. We have the usual collection achievement, and battle achievements too. Notably, we have one achievement for Legendary pets, and one for trainers. There will be guides for both of these.

Polished Pet Battle Charms
In an official blue post by Blizzard, it has been confirmed that
抛光的宠物符咒
will continue to be useable in Shadowlands. Previously,

were used to purchase items, and in Battle for Azeroth, were made redundant as they were replaced by a new token.
The total amount of
抛光的宠物符咒
is dependent on what Covenant you choose. There are eight battle pets that share Covenants. These are obtained through different methods, depending on the Covenant you are in. Please see

for specific information.
If you choose the Kyrian Covenant, the total Polished Pet Charm cost would be
抛光的宠物符咒
x5000. This is because the eight shared pets are purchasable for Polished Pet Charms.
If you choose any other Covenant or opt out of buying the mutual pets with Polished Pet Charms, the total Polished Pet Charm cost would be
抛光的宠物符咒
x3000, however you will need to obtain the eight shared pets through other methods. These methods include different currencies, drops or crafting methods.
We have no plans to make a new pet charm currency this expansion. Polished Pet Charms will remain the standard currency to buy new pets, toys, consumables, and all of the other normally-available vendor purchases.
Shadowlands Wild Pets
As usual, in every expansion, there is a high number of wild pets available to catch on release. There is usually a Safari achievement for collecting these pets however it is not in yet.
Due to the amount of these pets and ease to obtain I've made a seperate guide to reduce clutter. The guide will detail how to obtain the following pets:

Shadowlands Safari - The Wild Pets of Shadowlands
Shadowlands Covenant Pets
It seems like once we obtain a pet from a Covenant, we may not be able to summon this pet if we aren't part of that Covenant. This is unlike previous gated pets, such as the class order hall ones. All these pets are cageable though, so it seems we can learn them, just not summon them.

A rare mutation gives this dredbat its violet underbelly, making it a sought after gift for pet collectors with eclectic tastes.
Shadowlands Pet Drops from Rares
Rares in Shadowlands work quite different to what the initial rares in each expansion. They were more similarly to rares from the Timless Isle, or more recently, Nazjatar and Mechagon. The rares seem to have a respawn timer that is approximately an hour, however, the drops are not guaranteed. You can only kill each rare once per day, however you could hop on alts to get more kills.

Pets from Dungeons and Raids in Shadowlands
We have three pets dropping from base mythic dungeons, and one from the raid. These three Mythic only pets likely wont drop in Mythic+, similar to how they worked in the previous expansion.
The raid specific pet is a mystery at the moment, and seems to be unique in that you can't cage it, and only can have one of them, suggesting it comes from an event, quest, or special source. And it looks really cool too.

Changes to Pet Battle Abilities and Old Pets in Shadowlands
We're getting a lot of adjustments for pet battle abilities in Shadowlands. Some of these aren't necessarily bad, but we'll have to wait for testing to see how older strategies hold up. Heres a list of the changed abilities, with more details in the tabs below:

The iconic Black Claw / Hunting Party combination has been changed in Shadowlands. The changes to these abilities are pretty complicated, and are probably best explained by Blizzard:
Let’s break down what actually changed to these, as some of them are complicated.
Flat damage-taken modifiers such as Black Claw now happen **after multipliers such as Shattered Defenses, or pet species strengths/weaknesses. This is a significant change to the value of flat damage abilities. Prior to this change, the value of Black Claw was increased 100% by Shattered Defenses, and if your pet was strong vs the other pet type, it would be increased even further. Flat damage modifiers now happen after all other combat calculations, which wound up being a significant damage output nerf to abilities that hit multiple times, upwards of 25-30% total damage reduction.
Hunting Party and Flock style abilities are significantly changed. First, the Shattered Defenses debuff was reduced in power from 100% to 50%. The goal of this debuff change is mostly to keep the damage of Hunting Party and Flock mostly contained within the damage the ability itself deals. Layering on other Damage over Time effects, or Curse of Doom, or similar delayed-damage sources were all getting a huge benefit from the Shattered Defenses debuff. We think that a 50% damage increase is still strong enough, but less drastic of a damage swing compared to not having Shattered Defenses at all.
The second change we made to these multi-round abilities was to increase the amount of damage they deal to offset some of the changes listed above. Abilities that dealt damage twice per round, such as Hunting Party, had their total damage dealt increased by 25%. Abilities such as Flock that did damage three times per round had their damage increased round-over-round, so to get the maximum damage output, you needed your pet to survive and still be dealing damage on the third round of the ability. Round two of Flock for example, ignoring any debuffs or multipliers, will deal 66% more damage than round one. Round three of Flock will deal 133% more damage than round 1 of Flock. The net result of all of the changes to flat damage modifiers, the Shattered Defenses debuff, and the buffs to Hunting Party or Flock style abilities is that they deal roughly 20% less damage in Shadowlands than they did previously.
Here are the changed versions of Hunting Party. Please note that the changes to Black Claw and reflected in the programming that we can't see, and the damage of the ability remains the same.

have been changed. This ability did a set amount of damage per turn, and now does ramping damage for as long as the ability continues. This may prove quite powerful, but we'll have to see once testing becomes available!
Battle for Azeroth:

Twilight Meteorite, a popular ability used by the Twilight Clutch Sister, has had its damaged reduced.

The Jar of Smelly Liquid ability currently remains the same damage wise and how it works, however has had its cooldown increased.

Murkalots ability, has received a very significant nerf. This pet was popular in PvP pet battles due to this signature ability. The ability now starts on cooldown, meaning you need to wait 8 rounds to use it.
Battle for Azeroth:

- The user inspires a friendly pet to charge into battle. This ability always goes first. The swapped-in pet has double speed and damage for 1 rounds. If all their friends are dead, the user can still inspire themself.
Shadowlands:

This ability starts on cooldown.
Although not really used on many pets, Ancient Knowledge has received a small buff.

Almost all healing abilities have been changed. They have had a small variance applied to them when you use it. Instead of healing by x amount, it will heal from x-y amount. All healing abilities have been tuned so that having any variation in the healing amount makes sense, and the variance has been removed if it did not. Here's an example, though it seems like values are not final:

The changes to "stampede" type moves (by trainer) pets has a significant effect on our use of defenses such as Shell Shield and spells like Sandstorm. I had a very bad experience on "Aki the Chosen <Grand Master Pet Tamer>" who quickly dispatched my Spirit Crab who used to nearly solo the encounter (and a level 1 carry pet and Yellow Moth). I think Blizz's logic was to even out the damage so an early death by the caster would get all two or three round of damage in. I'm sure we can find work arounds if necessary.

When I did a Training in Ardenweald with Deos (Bastion), the Dirty Glinting Object would occasionally spawn, and he would point it out. I got Lucy this way! So it's not exclusive to Revendreth.
Macabre, which drops Rocky, spawns in the Mysterious Mushroom Ring in Ardenweald. I've forgotten exact coords now, but somewhere in the 33.5, 47.5 range, north of Root-Home. You need three people to /dance each with the next to spawn the rare.
