The

is a mount rewarded from a series of daily quests in Visions of N'Zoth. In this guide, we'll explain how to raise your Aqir Hatchling to acquire a new mount, pet, and toy, how to complete all the dailies, and the requirements to unlock this quest chain. Over the course of a little under a month, players can embark on a journey from hatchling to full-fledged drone.
The

, an Aqir flying mount that we rescue from the depths of N'Zoth's forces and raise it all the way to adulthood!

Shadowbarb Quest Requirements
This questline is available for both Alliance and Horde characters.
You must have unlocked Uldum assaults on your character to start this questline - Refer to the
Visions of N'Zoth Introduction Questline Guide
for more information.
Once started, this questline will require
approximately 30 days
of daily quests to earn all rewards. These do not need to be done in consecutive days, and depending on your Stage 3 quest progression, it might take a little less time to complete it.
Shadowbarb Rewards
There are three stages of growth for your Shadowbarb Drone, and you will receive a reward at the end of each growth stage: Egg, Larva and Hatchling.
Egg Stage:

, a toy that will cover a target in bugs for a few seconds.
Larva Stage:

, a Flying Battle Pet with a plethora of void-themed Magic attacks.
Hatchling Stage:

, an Aqir flying mount.
The Shadowbarb Drone portion starts at 4:48.
Shadowbarb Quests and Daily Quests
The journey to raising your own Aqir mount begins from the
虚触之卵
which can be found during any invasions. The Voidtouched Egg can be found on western area of Uldum near Ankhaten Harbor/Schnottz' Landing, at the coordinates
20.8 62.0
.
Once you find the Voidtouched Egg, all you need to do is interact with it to start the quest
不可思议之卵
, which will require you to return to Ramkahen and meet with the draenei explorer NPC

. H'Partho, shocked at the discovery, suggests we attempt to raise the Aqir to ensure it does not grow to be a people-eating bug, and puts the egg on a pedestal right next to him. Once the egg is on the pedestal, you will be able to track its progress on the bar above it.
To start his research on how the Aqir work, H'Partho then offers the quest

, which requires you to investigate additional Voidtouched eggs in the Temple of Uldum and Obelisk of the Moon, to learn more about how the Aqir tick. Once you return to H'Partho with enough data, he will signal you with a message saying that you have done everything you can do for the day, and to return the next day for more quests.
Stage 1: Nurturing the Egg
At this point, you will start doing daily quests to help grow your Voidtouched Egg. Depending on when Assaults change, you will receive either a daily quest or a unique quest. Daily quests award 300 experience for your egg, and Unique quests award 900 experience. Once you fill your egg's experience bar, it will stop at 4999/5000, requiring you to return the next day to finish that growth stage.
At this stage you will receive one quest from the ones below every day. The quest is random each day but is the same for all players on this step.

Stage 1.5: It's a... Something? Do Aqir Have Genders?
Once your Egg reaches 5.000 experience, the big day is here! Your Egg will hatch in

. Once your egg hatches and imprints on you, it is time to choose a name! You will have a choice of four names and these are entirely cosmetic and will change your egg's NPC name. Once you choose one, there is no coming back, so choose carefully!

Stage 2: Diets For Your Larva
Once your egg is hatched into a larva, we are forced into a new problem: What can we give for this little guy to eat? All we know is Aqir likes to eat humans, but we cannot just kill random people and throw their meat at our little boy, can we? We will first attempt a more normal diet with beast meat in

, which requires us to collect 12

from beasts in Uldum and Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
After you collect enough meat, you can give them to your aqir larva, who will not enjoy them very much. After this, you will be done for the day, and the next few days we will focus on ensuring our larva is growing well and being properly fed. Once again, daily quests award 300 experience for your larva, and Unique quests award 900 experience. Once you fill your larva's experience bar, it will stop at 4999/5000, requiring you to return the next day to finish that growth stage.
At this stage you will receive one quest from the ones below every day. The quest is random each day but is the same for all players on this step.

Once your larva reaches 5.000 experience, we witness it grow once again! In

Stage 3: How to Train Your Hatchling
To get your Aqir though the Hatchling stage, there are two different kinds of quests:
A daily quest that will involve you to invoke your hatchling via
赫帕索的哨子
and fight alongside it for 10 minutes in invasions. Enemies defeated during these 10 minutes will be directly added to your hatchling's experience bar, so plan your route accordingly! If you or your hatchling die during these 10 minutes, you will no longer be able to summon it for the day.
Lower health enemies in groups grant
5 experience each
; Normal enemies grant
20 experience
; Elites and rares can grant
30 to 50 experience
. Your best bet is to encounter an area where you are able to grind enemies and pay attention in chat for any rare spawns.
The other kind of daily is a Pet Battle quest which will require to defeat a Legendary battle pet with the Shadowbarb Hatchling in your party. Each Pet Battle quest gives 900 experience to your hatchling, and it does not need to join the battle at all, just be in your pet battle party when you start the fight!

Final Stage: Mounting Your Aqir
Once we reach 4999/5000 experience on our hatchling, it is time for the final portion of the questline! As your Shadowbarb Aqir fully grown, he is now able to carry you into battle, but he needs to have a saddle to do so. In

, the Ramkahen quartermaster, for some help on this regard.
Abasi mentions he can build a saddle for your Shadowbarb Aqir, but he requires metals that are lighter than the ones usually found around Uldum. Luckily for us, he has noticed that the Black Empire forces uses armor that are made from some kind of alloy that is impossibly light and strong, and asks us to bring some of these armors in

. These can be gathered from minions of N'Zoth in Black Empire assaults. Once you deliver these to Abasi, he will mention to return the next day for your new saddle!
On the next day, Abasi will have the quest

I have just noticed, that it appears the human Deplomacy racial actually adds to the experience of the egg.
I have done only 2 unique quests and 2 dailies, which according to the guide equates 2400 experience, but my currently egg-perience is on 2640, which can only be explained by 10% additional experience from somewhere, which I suspect can only be credited to the fact I'm human.
It might be a bug, however, but as others have pointed out in other comments, the Stormsong bee also gained additional experience from the human racial.

After failing to get credit for the Honing Instincts (after 10 minutes of killing rares), I gave up. I will now only do the Battle Pet quests, even if it takes me longer. With so many things that can go wrong (from War Mode jerks to _accidentally_ forgetting to leave the raid group before activating the whistle), if I never see this "training" again it will be too soon. At least pet battles cannot be failed in any way.

remeber that if you summon your little brodrone and then you enter the minor vision (like i did yesterday in uldum) the quest of keeping it with you for 10 minutes will be autocompleted immediatly BUT you will get 1 experience point only.

Great guide, thank you for putting it together.
A few points that might be added, as I think they were mentioned in the comments, and that I have learned the hard way:
1. Be careful if doing the training quest (Bug out in combat) with War Mode on. If you die (Ally / Horde), or your Battle Pet dies; you will be done for the day
2. Do not enter the Minor Vision with your Batte Pet enabled. I have found that it will essentially end your daily accumulation total and the quest for the day. I assume this is due to it being instanced?
3. Plan your dailies around starting in Uldum, as sometimes the daily can / will send you the Vale for the collection item or the pet battle required that day. I have a few times had to go back and forth between the zones just to turn this in once completed.
4. Be patient. This questline made up of dailies can appear drawn out, and there are no reputation / visions / mementos gained by doing it. It is purely for the toy, pet, and mount. You only get the one quest per day, so just be sure when picking up Uldum dailies, to swing by and knock this one out too!

Is there any advantage or reason to do this on multiple toons?
This isn't very informative. On the first phase(Stage 1: Nurturing the Egg) you say the quests are random but they aren't, they're based on what invasions are up (i.e. you can't get a Encased in Amber quest unless the Mantid invasion is up, quite simply because you can't do it if the Mantid invasion isn't up).
Also, you're missing one of the quests

To get past "Stage 1: Nurturing the Egg" you have to do all the quests in all the invasions.

If it wasn't for this quest and this quest alone, we could just do dailies in one zone, go to the next, do the dailies then log out, next day reverse. Thanks to this quest, we have to do the dailies in Uldum, pick up this daily, go to Vale, do the dailies, then come back to Uldum, hand in daily. OR, if we are starting in the Vale, do the dailies there, go to Uldum, do the dailies, pick up this daily, go back to Vale, do the daily, and then come back to Uldum to hand in this daily.

Worst quest line ever. It has been a complete pain in the ass, especially in the end when we have to farm (AGAIN) and give the items for the NPC who crafts the saddle. WAS IT IMPOSSIBLE TO BLIZZARD TO DO NOT FORCE US TO WAIT ONE DAY MORE AFTER WE GIVE THE REAGENTS ?

Ok. I have to be missing something obvious. I've been checking for weeks now, and I find the "voidtouched eggs" just fine, but there is no quest or any way to interact with them. I've checked during the Aqir invasion and all the others. So is it only available sometimes?

I came here looking for ways to do the pet battles, without having to do the pet battles (lol, i really HATE pet battles) and was extremely happy to see two comments underneath a guide, which both said that the legendary pets scale your pets levels to max as long as you have one pet on your team who's level 25...
Then i was extremely disappointed, when i tried it and found out it's not true anymore.
Either Blizzard patched it, or the two comments were lying. I'm gonna go ahead and guess that blizzard might have patched it in 8.3.7.
If anyone has any ideas on how to do the pet battle quests without having to pet battle as much, is greatly appreciated.

trash pet battles now trick you into doing them when you thought u were growing a mount i hate this ALOT pet battles is the worst addition to the game but i didnt mind them as long as there was no mount rewards for it.

I am on the last portion of this quest series (Otherworldly Armaments) and am very excited to get the drone! The dailies are a bit tedious, even though they are trivial at 60. This process took twice as long because I simply kept forgetting to come do the dailies!
A couple tips for select parts of the quests that I discovered along the way. The pet battle, if you absolutely hate them or don't have good pets to fight, just determine the strongest creature type against the enemy pet, and find three level ONE pets of that kind, preferably with hard hitting moves. The boss pet should be squished down to level 1 as well, and becomes incredibly easy for any player to beat!
For the Aqir instincts quests, if you come prepared you can get him to adult in two, or even ONE of these dailies if you are particularly savvy with the mobs where you are fighting. I did it twice, not realizing how it worked the first time and not taking full advantage of the allotted time. I have done this on a feral druid, and did this daily in feral. Lots of mobility, speed, and heavy AoE but also good single target for elites. Round up as many mobs in an area that you think you can without any of them resetting, focusing on areas heavy with elites. Hunters with barrage, this is your time to shine! Kill them as fast as you can, and as quickly as you can mount up and head to the closest area with a good concentration of mobs, and repeat.
My second time doing this daily, I went from somewhere between 1,500 - 2,000 and capped him at 4999/5000. I am now on Otherworldly armaments after only three days (First day Aqir instincts, second day was Mantid Mettle, third day capping his exp out via the daily version of Aqir instincts).
Hopefully this helps those of you nearing this point or who are at this point, it definitely made my life easier!

Will Aqir Instincts/Honing Instincts eventually spawn as a daily if I just skip the pet battle ones? It's been a pet battle daily every time I've checked and I'm not sure if it's just bad RNG or if I'm locked to that. My hatchling reached level 2 after one pet battle victory and now I can't beat them anymore.
