Specializations Guide! Here you'll find information on the new Specializations in Dragonflight, a few suggested builds for
锻造
Specializations, and information regarding Knowledge Points - all updated with the latest information!
Profession Knowledge Points in Dragonflight
Each Profession has its own Specialization Tree. Crafting profession trees focus on learning new recipes, creating items to improve your crafting, and increasing crafting Secondary Skills, which allow players to create better items. Gathering profession trees improve gathering yields, give better chances of collecting rare items, allow gathering while mounted, and even give one gathering profession a small crafting component. Secondary Skills (Fishing and Cooking) do not have specialization trees.
Unlocking Specializations requires a minimum skill level of 25 in that profession. You use Knowledge Points earned in various ways to unlock various branches of the Specialization tree.
What are Knowledge Points?
Knowledge is a new currency that you will acquire during Dragonflight. These points can be spent in your profession's Specialization Trees to improve your crafting ability.
Knowledge Point changes are permanent!
Once you use a Knowledge Point and save your changes, you will not be able to adjust it later.
The way you spend Knowledge is very important. While it is possible to learn everything a Specialization has to offer, this system is meant to take a significant time investment to maximize. Because
there is no current way to refund Knowledge
, choosing starter builds wisely is crucial.
Unlearning the profession and then re-acquiring it will
not
reset or refund spent Knowledge Points.
You will get back everything you'd learned through Specialization, as well as any unspent points, although you'll still return to Skill (1) and have to re-learn any recipes.
There are many different ways to earn Knowledge Points, including but not limited to first-time crafting, random drops, static treasures, special trainers, quests, and Renown. For complete and up-to-date information on earning Knowledge Points, please see our guides:

Recommended Blacksmithing Specialization Builds
While Players will eventually be able to completely max out their Specializations on a given Profession, early on in Dragonflight Crafters will have to choose what they want to focus on primarily.
锻造
has a few basic options, which over time can grow into powerhouse Specializations focused around Armorsmithing, Weaponsmithing, Profession Accessories, and Consumables & Reagents.
It's very important to note that, much like how the meta for Shadowlands Crafted Legendaries changed over time, it's highly likely that as Dragonflight progresses early builds will become obsolete and new Specialization builds will emerge. This guide will be updated as major shifts occur, so check back in often!
In this guide, we'll cover four possible
锻造
Specialization Builds:
铸甲
Specialization
武器打造
Specialization
工具打造
Specialization
专业锻制
Specialization
You may notice that some builds use more Knowledge Points than others - while there will be an initial burst of Knowledge for Blacksmiths after utilizing the First Craft bonus, things will settle down and points will become scarcer. If you choose a Specialization Build and "finish" it, feel free to start on another!
Blacksmithing Dragonflight Profession Tree Calculator
Armorsmithing Blacksmithing Build
Heavy Plate Armor is the main focus of
锻造
's armor crafting capabilities. Plate classes have emerged more and more as powerhouses in many types of content, meaning there will certainly be no shortage of buyers clamoring for a competent Blacksmith to gear them. Due to the nature of the Plans, Blacksmiths will need to either scour the Auction House for recipes, or they will have to engage in a wide variety of content (PvP, Raiding, World Drops, Renown) in order to learn all the necessary Plans to maximize the effectiveness of this Build.
With Dragonflight's changes to Professions, Specializations can now focus on a slot-by-slot basis: if Helms are selling better than Wrists, for example, Crafters can swap their focus by choosing a new Sub-Specialization and allocating points in that particular craft. While one piece of gear may be valued as a quick upgrade at a low quality, another may be sought-after as a high quality Best In Slot piece.
As with all early-Dragonflight Builds, this Build focuses on getting up and running with Knowledge Points,
not
min-maxing a specific build. If you want to continue focusing on this build past the recommended point allocation, focus on Inspiration, Resourcefulness, and Crafting Speed bonuses, as well as fleshing out each individual Armor Slot Specialization.
Knowledge Point Breakdown
0-10
铸甲
- The primary objective of this Build will be to learn as many recipes as possible as quickly as possible, so immediately aiming for a Sub-Specialization is recommended. While these can be taken in any order, for the sake of the guide, we'll work from Left to Right.
10-40
大型板甲
- The nature of how Sub-Specializations unlock recipes allows Players to pump points into
大型板甲
, giving small bonuses to Inspiration and Resourcefulness while also allowing Players to use Optional Reagents to specify Secondary Stats on the pieces they craft.
40-40
All Available Sub-Specializations - Players aren't actually putting any points into these Sub-Specializations (for the Chest, Shield, and Leg slots), merely unlocking them - this will teach the corresponding pattern for that Sub-Specialization.
40-50
铸甲
- Back to the start of our tree, Blacksmiths will want to put in just enough points to get them to their next Sub-Specialization unlock. We'll return here shortly, but our Knowledge Points are better spent in other places for now.
50-80
塑造护甲
- Pathing down the center of the tree, Blacksmiths gain small bonuses to Inspiration and Resourcefulness, while also unlocking three more recipes through Sub-Specializations.
80-80
All Available Sub-Specializations - Similar to before, Blacksmiths aren't actually spending Knowledge Points here, merely unlocking the Sub-Specializations (Helms, Shoulders, and Boots) for their armor slot patterns.
80-90
铸甲
- On our final trip back, we're now maxing out
铸甲
to gain access to the last portion of the tree, and our last recipes.
90-120
精良护甲
- Unlocking our last three Sub-Specializations is the goal here, while also gaining a few Inspiration and Resourcefulness bonuses.
120-120
All Available Sub-Specializations - Those following this Build will be sensing a pattern: don't allocate Knowledge Points here, as our prizes (recipes for Belts, Wrists, and Gloves) are our goal.
Weaponsmithing Blacksmithing Build
锻造
boasts the capability to craft weapons for almost every proficiency. From sleek Daggers to hefty Axes, any class who likes to be in the thick of combat will feel at home using a Blacksmith's creation. Similarly to Armorsmithing, though, Blacksmiths will have to engage in a wide variety of content (PvP, Raiding, World Drops, Renown) in order to learn all the necessary Plans to maximize the effectiveness of this Build.
With Dragonflight's changes to Professions, Specializations can now focus on a slot-by-slot basis: if Daggers are selling better than Axes, for example, Crafters can swap their focus by choosing a new Sub-Specialization and allocating points in that particular craft. While one piece of gear may be valued as a quick upgrade at a low quality, another may be sought-after as a high quality Best In Slot piece.
As with all early-Dragonflight Builds, this Build focuses on getting up and running with Knowledge Points,
not
min-maxing a specific build. If you want to continue focusing on this build past the recommended point allocation, focus on Inspiration, Resourcefulness, and Crafting Speed bonuses, as well as fleshing out each individual Weapon Slot Specialization.
Knowledge Point Breakdown
0-10
武器打造
- We're once again aiming to get to Sub-Specializations as quickly as possible, so consider these "traveling" Knowledge Points.
10-40
利刃
-
武器打造
Sub-Specializations function slightly differently than
铸甲
, but we still want to put Knowledge Points here first. This will allow Blacksmiths to unlock Finishing Reagents quickly, lending to higher quality crafts.
40-45
短刃
- While we get one recipe for free simply by unlocking this Specialization, there is another available with just a small Knowledge Point investment, so grabbing it quickly is a good choice.
45-50
长刃
- The same type of situation applies here: we gain a Longblade recipe for simply unlocking this specialization, but we also gain a Warglaive recipe with five Knowledge Points allocated. Grab that recipe!
50-60
武器打造
- Back to our roots!
武器打造
will unlock our next Sub-Specialization. Crafting speed is useful, but ultimately, crafting recipes are
more
useful, so aim for those before maxing out this wheel.
60-80
握柄
- We want to unlock both Sub-Specializations, but can come back for the remaining Inspiration later - especially early on, efficient point use will be key.
80-80
All Available Sub-Specializations - This time, we won't be spending any Knowledge Points - merely unlocking
锤
and
斧、镐和长柄武器
gives us the recipes we need.
Toolsmithing Blacksmithing Build
While Armor and Weapons are certainly the main focus of
锻造
, Profession Tools allow for new, interesting crafting opportunities in Dragonflight. Not nearly as in-depth of a build as one focusing on Armor or Weapons, it's likely that Profession Tools will be a build that is sought after in the early launch phase of Dragonflight and will become less useful as time goes on. In order to learn the Plans for higher level Profession Accessories, Blacksmiths will need to seek out a few world drops, and raise their Renown with
马鲁克半人马
and
瓦德拉肯联军
.
Higher quality Profession Tools and Accessories allow for higher quality crafts, and with
锻造
providing these items to a solid variety of Professions it is very likely that a high-quality piece will fetch a pretty penny. Blacksmiths focus primarily on Profession Tools, which will be heavily desired - a good Tool can make the difference for many Crafters!
As with all early-Dragonflight Builds, this Build focuses on getting up and running with Knowledge Points,
not
min-maxing a specific build. If you want to continue focusing on this build past the recommended point allocation, focus on Inspiration, Resourcefulness, and Crafting Speed bonuses.
Knowledge Point Breakdown
0-5
专业锻制
- As is tradition with the first few Knowledge Points, your true goal is unlocking a Sub-Specialization, and the Skill bonus here is certainly helpful.
5-35
工具打造
- Our first stop in learning all Specialization recipes, this Sub-Specialization also allows Blacksmiths to create and use
卓然洞悉
to boost their Skill while crafting Profession Tools.
35-45
武器打造
- Swapping to another Tree, Blacksmiths must dip into the
武器打造
Specialization in order to learn a few recipes.
45-55
握柄
- We'll return to
握柄
shortly, but for now, we want to open up a Sub-Specialization.
55-65
锤
- A new Hammer is our prize here, along with a small Skill bonus on the way to investing 10 Knowledge Points.
65-75
握柄
- Our second trip back to this Sub-Specialization leads us to unlocking the last Sub-Specialization we need in the
武器打造
tree.
75-85
斧、镐和长柄武器
- We only put 10 Knowledge Points in this Sub-Specialization, earning us a Pickaxe recipe for Miners.
85-95
锻锤控制
- Jumping over to a third tree, we're looking for a Sub-Specialization to give us large boosts in Inspiration.
95-125
辛酸设计图
-
辛酸设计图
will give massive boosts in Insight to Blacksmiths, allowing for Skill bonuses in huge bursts. This means Blacksmiths will be able to create higher-quality Profession Tools.
Consumables & Reagents Blacksmithing Build
锻造
doesn't boast many consumables, however the ones it does know are consistent favorites on the Auction House. Whetstones and Weightstones provide bonuses to Attack Power on Weapons, making them a must-have for those looking to squeak out that extra bit of DPS. Additionally, new to Dragonflight, Razorstones make an appearance, granting Finesse to Gathering Tools.
Churning out these consumables, along with higher-quality Alloy Reagents to other Crafters, will likely provide Blacksmiths with a steady supply of gold in Dragonflight. Consumables generally hold value throughout the life of an expansion, making this a fairly safe Build for those who want consistent income for their crafting time.
As with all early-Dragonflight Builds, this Build focuses on getting up and running with Knowledge Points,
not
min-maxing a specific build. If you want to continue focusing on this build past the recommended point allocation, focus on Inspiration, Resourcefulness, Multicraft, and Crafting Speed bonuses.
Knowledge Point Breakdown
0-5
专业锻制
- We'll be returning to
专业锻制
shortly, but for now, we move on to our first Sub-Specialization.
5-25
石制品
- Providing strong Multicraft and Inspiration bonuses, Blacksmiths also get a bonus when crafting Stone goods: Multicraft will grant up to 50% additional items during the craft. This Sub-Specialization is incredibly powerful- who doesn't want extra consumables for free?
25-35
专业锻制
- Returning to
专业锻制
, we now want a second Sub-Specialization to give us bonuses to the other main consumable we craft.
35-55
熔炼
- Investing 20 Knowledge Points into
熔炼
will grant the same Multicraft bonuses to Alloys that we previously obtained for Stone goods.
55-65
锻锤控制
- Heading to a different tree, we're now looking to find Resourcefulness bonuses through a Sub-Specialization.
65-95
安全熔炼
- When mass-producing Consumables and Reagents, saving materials through Resourcefulness will give you more bang for your buck. This Sub-Specialization, focusing entirely on Resourcefulness bonuses, will allow Blacksmiths to pump out even more product than anticipated.

DO NOT
Following this guide for Armor or Weapons. And whoever wrote this, PLEASE update it.
I just spent a ton of gold and time doing something along these lines for Weaponsmithing only to realize it's terrible and now my character is practically useless.
If you are doing Weapon or Armor. PICK ONE (maybe two) things on the lowest level and max all the nodes down. DO NOT Generalize, SPECIALIZE.
Eg, for swords MAX WeaponSmithing + Blades + Long Blade. If you're anything less than Max you'll be super far off from being able to craft max grade gear and that's the only thing people ask for.

This guide must be rewritten as the builds are blatantly wrong. It was obviously written before anyone actually had hands-on experience with the crafting system.
Here are some problems I see:
The builds focus on getting many recipes instead of specializing, making you an undesirable crafter who physically can't max out items
The guide fails to explain how recipe difficulty, skill and inspiration interact to let you actually make decent items
There is no in-depth explaination as to what the different individual skill nodes actually do, like how Hammer Control gives +1 skill to ALL blacksmithing crafts, while something like Specialty Smithing only gives skill to specific types of crafts
The armorsmithing and weaponsmithing builds dont mention that you will also have to go into Hammer Control to further boost your skill to actually make items in high quality with infusions and missives
The guide implies that it's easy to just swap sub-specializations if specific item slots are more in demand which is blatantly false, as getting 30-60 new knowledge points is going to take at least 2 weeks if all knowledge is obtained and leaves you unable to spend those points on other useful skills
There is no mention of the different ways you as a crafter can go about achieving high enough skill to craft the most difficult of items at max rank, either by specializing in a single slot and using Illustrous Insight (unlocked at skill 30 in an individual slot), or by specializing in inspiration (Poignant Plans after Hammer Control) and relying on recrafting
Anyone who follows the armorsmithing guide will have bricked their profession and are better off learning a different one, unless they are okay with delivering low-quality crap by camping public orders to people who expect at least a little quality. The weaponsmithing one is salvageable, since the knowledge investment isn't too large, but implying that you should invest points to get recipes before finding your niche is weird. Toolsmithing and alloy smithing are actually decent builds, but there should be a much more detailed explaination on how you actually get the various recipes since some of them are locked behind a very significant amount of reputation. Also inspiration is vital!

What Huntlocker said. In reality, you won´t make any money with crafting orders for armor and weapons anyway, because every worthwile craft is gated through
灵思火花
availability. So basically, only pick up blacksmithing if you want a specific item for yourself, and max out skill for that one (=120 points total, 3x30 points towards this specialization, plus 30 in hammer control). Then get tier 3 reagents and secondary effects, spam grand hunts until 25 rep for a primal infusion, voilà, ilvl405 weapon or armor piece. Beyond that, I guess it´s basically do whatever, but it will always make way more sense to specialize than to branch out.

Numbers, for anyone interested.
TL;DR, if you aren't trying to craft with missives/primal infusions, generalizing can still get you T5 gear on everything @160 knowledge. If you use them you'll only guarantee T4. If you specialize, you guarantee T5 with missive and infusion on 2 pieces of gear.
Gonna note that required skill level for a T4 guarantee is 223 skill, T5 is 280. Also going to note that Blacksmithing level also applies to base skill level (eg 90 B/s = 90 skill). If you have extra, they still apply. All totals are taken with blue accessories for +18 additional skill, primal molten armor used as the basis (allied armor requirement is 325 off rip).
If you GENERALIZE
, unlocking each of your armor pieces would cost you 120 knowledge. Crafting them would get you to ~239 skill assuming max bs lvl (if you can get people to accept T3 gear from you, congrats, you've got 27 skill and +27 B/s, which should help you max out much easier). You would then need to max hammer control with another 30 knowledge. This gets you 40 skill and inspiration bonuses, total of 297 skill @150 knowledge.
You then just need 1 point in any piece of armor for max craft without any reagents, 9 for all of them, and a total of 159 knowledge (i'm rounding to 160 for ease).
Edit: Realized my numbers were off because T3 primal molten alloy, depending on recipe, can give you 3-5 more skill than T1 for each one used. Total skill adjusted, and you can still guarantee T5 and may have room for a missive with maxed hammer control and all T3 alloy. Needing to inspire for a primal infusion is still true.
If you SPECIALIZE
, you get 50 additional skill in one piece of armor. You spend 120 knowledge maxing hammer control and your armor of choice, but it does give you 329 skill outright. At 150 knowledge you can do this for two, but the 10 remaining points in the third will only give you 20 skill instead of 50 (299 skill total on the last one). It
should
be easier to get people to take your guaranteed T5 gear, which will max your blacksmithing. Because your skill is already at the 325 cap for two, you can throw in your illustrious insight to add the embellishment as well.
Conclusion:
By generalizing you trade guaranteed T5 including missives/infusions for 2 ilvls, 9 more knowledge, and the ability to craft everything yourself. While you may start your gear off a little bit weaker, if you don't care about two ilvls, this is probably an alright build for you. As we get deeper into the expansion you won't need to worry about unlocking recipes because you already did. You can get inspired and still have T5 gear, or recraft it later.
By specializing you can sell your better crafting skills to people to help make back any money you spent getting to max level and you never have to worry about a recipe being less than T5. That said, you have to rely on others to craft the rest of your gear, which limits the amount of knowledge you get in the same amount of time as someone who generalized. You don't have to waste resources on recrafting though, so your money and materials are yours to keep.

Is it just me or is it impossible to craft a 418 T5 Primal Molten Shortblade without an inspiration proc if you add missives and embellishment?
Here's my breakdown:
T5 Primal molten blade
Skill needed
300 Base cost
+ 50 Concentrated Primal Infusion
+ 25 Embellishment
+ 15 Draconic Missive
——————————————————————
390 Skill
Skill obtainable
+ 100 From profession level
+ 22 From crafting equipment
+ 40 From Hammer Control
Specific type:
+ 30 From Weaponsmithing
——————————————————————
+ 30 From Blades
+ 50 From Short blades
——————————————————————
+ 75 Tier 3 mats (25% of base cost)
+ 30 Illustrious Insight
——————————————————————
377 Maximum skill available
If this is correct it might be better to give up 27 skill from Hammer Control by only putting 10 points into it and max out Poignant Plans for 6% inspiration.
