How to Obtain Soul Ash in Shadowlands - Legendary Crafting Currency from Torghast Layers

Soul Ash is one of the main ingredients when crafting and upgrading legendary items in Shadowlands. In this guide, we will go over how to obtain the Soul Ash currency from Torghast layers and quests, how much you need for crafting and upgrading legendaries, and how to maximize your efficiency when obtaining it.
Soul Ash Changes in Patch 9.1.5
In Patch 9.1.5, you're able to obtain the full amount of Soul Ash every time you clear a Torghast wing.
What is Soul Ash?

is a currency that is obtained inside Torghast when completing the weekly challenges for the tower or when completing specific quests.
What is Soul Ash Used For?

is used to craft legendary items in Shadowlands. It isn't, however, the sole material, you can learn more about how to craft legendaries in our

.
The amount of Soul Ash used to craft a legendary depends on the item level of the legendary you're looking to craft. Higher the item level, more Soul Ash is used. Soul Ash can also be used to upgrade existing legendary items to higher item level versions of them.
How to Obtain Soul Ash
There are two ways to obtain

in Shadowlands:
Completing layers from wings of Torghast
Completing introduction quests for Torghast
Soul Ash from Torghast Wings Per Week
Every week, two different wings are available to be played in Torghast, out of a total of six wings. Each wing has 12 different layers. Clearing a wing awards a substantial amount of

At the start, you will only have layer 1 unlocked, and you'll need to open the next layer by achieving a minimum run score of 160. You will repeat this process to advance through the Layers of Torghast.
You can also re-clear Torghast for additional
灵魂灰烬
even after you've already completed your weekly clears, and you can repeat it as many times as you wish.
Each week, 2 wings are available. Note that running the Twisting Corridors does
not

Completing higher floors will automatically award you any

from lower Layers, so you can skip lower floors with impunity - As an example, clearing a Layer 12 wing will automatically grant the Soul Ash from all lower layers, for a total of 1040

Soul Ash from Torghast Quests
As the name implies, these quests teach you how Torghast work and can only be completed once per character. In total, completing all these quests will reward you with 0

Soul Ash from Missions
The

Mission only seems to spawn after you complete a couple of "Campaign" Story Missions and is a difficult mission to complete. The mission is usually of a higher level than other missions, so you may need to level up your companions first in order to successfully complete this mission!

Do you waste Soul Ash Crafting Low Legendaries?
No. Either upgrading from rank 1 or creating a max level legendary cost the same amount of Soul Ash in the end.
Best Legendaries to Spend Soul Ash On
Shadowlands Legendary powers grant impactful gameplay effects for your character through the new Runecarving system. As your crafted Shadowlands legendary will be the most important piece of gear in the expansion, providing large performance benefits, it is crucial to pick the right legendary to craft and effectively spend your Soul Ash.

If there is no difference in the soul ash cost between making a rank 4 and upgrading to a rank 4, why would I ever make a base item higher than level 1? Are there other costs besides soul ash to upgrade that aren't listed? Otherwise it seems like a waste of materials to craft a rank 4 straight away.

Just as a caveat to the question: "Do you waste Soul Ash Crafting Low Legendaries?"
No, you do not waste a drop of Soul Ash. However, you will be spending gold on the AH or mats to make the lower level shells for each one. If you look at my server, and you just solely buy the shells off of the AH.
Level 1 - 15,000g
Level 2 - 75,000g
Level 3 - 200,000g
level 4 - 250,000g
So if you bought each level along the way, it would cost you 540,000g vs. just buying Level 4 at 250,000. The same is true for the materials to craft them.

After you get your 235 legendary piece what should you do with your extra soul ash? Should you build it for an off spec? Maybe build a PvP piece as well? i have a bunch of extra soul ash and idk if i should save it or not.

Assuming I have the soul ash needed, as well as the base item, can I skip an upgrade rank or does it have to go linearly? For instance: can I upgrade directly form rank 1 to 3 or would I need to upgrade from 1 to 2 to 3? Anyone know?

This is the amount of time it will take for you to get your legendary from 190 to 235, its a bit mesy cuz i don't know how to really use wowhead reply system.
But i hope it will be to ur help anyway.
Legendary Upgrade cost;
190 > 210: 750
210 > 225: 1200
225 > 235: 1950
Weekly full Clear: 1140 soulash
Weeks it takes to upgrade ur legenadry if u do them on reset:
(note that this counts the ash you have from the previous week and adds it on the 2nd week)

You also have the legendary sidequest thats available once a week which gives you ash to unlock the third instance. (The Catchup System affects this)
As of the 3rd Feburary, they hotfixed it so these can be done in all the different layers, you were only locked to the specified layers previously, the quest info can be wrong and will work even if it is.

OK so I have completed the 8 introductory quests listed above

Yet I seem to have zero soul ash listed under currencies. Am I missing something? I don't even see soul ash listed under currencies. When I go to the Runecarver and open up the interface to create a legendary item it also show zero. Is soul ash automatically rewarded for those quests or was I supposed to pick something up?
