This guide will give you the necessary knowledge to obtain the achievement

Understanding the mechanics of book spawn
The key to doing
进修
with a minimum of fuss is to understand the mechanics of where and when the books spawn:
The achievement requires you to read eight books, all of which can be found in Dalaran at eight fixed locations. Each book always spawns at the same spawnpoint, but shares this spawnpoint with 3-4 other books that does not count toward the achievement (out of convenience, these books will be called "fake books" in the rest of this guide). Books despawn 3 minutes after being read, and 3-4 hours after the despawn of a book at a particular spawnpoint, a new book will spawn.
The eight spawnpoints

How to do it
Go to Dalaran and take a tour to the eight spawnpoints. If you find any books, read them. If it is one of the eight books for the achievement, congratulations, you won't have to visit that particular spawnpoint again. If it is one of the fake books, make a note of the time - you should revisit this spawnpoint after exactly 3 hours. Until you have read books at all locations you should continue doing the tour to the spawnpoints with very short intervals to avoid missing a book because someone else reads it, while you're not there.
Now go do something else until three hours have passed from you read your first fake book. Go to the location where you read it, and wait for a new book to spawn. You should keep checking the spawnpoint for the following hour to avoid someone else reading the book while you're not there. As more spawnpoints hit the 3-hour limit, you should fly/run between these spawnpoints to check for new books. Continue to take note of the time, you read the fake books, so you can revisit those spawnpoints after another 3 hours.
Using this strategy you will probably have read 4-5 of the Higher Learning books after your first day in Dalaran. From then on it's a matter of luck - and the time you dedicate to bookchasing - how fast you will get the last books.
I got all the books - what now?
Spoiler alert - the following has been hidden for those that want to find out for themselves. All else can just hover the mouse over the black square, and the text will appear.
After reading all eight books, you will get

in your mail. Read it while you're still in Dalaran, and you will be teleported to a secret room in the tower of the Violet Citadel. Speak to Archmage Vargoth and show him the book - he will then give you the
肯瑞托魔仆
.
Additional tips
First of all: There is no quick fix to doing this achievement fast, as you have to wait for the spawn timers and because the books spawn randomly, but if you dedicate your time to it, you have a good chance to complete it within a couple of days.
If you don't have the time or patience to linger around Dalaran all day, it is a good strategy to check for books early in the morning on weekdays, as there will have been relatively fewer people roaming Dalaran during the night.
Join channels called "higherlearning" and "bookclub" (by typing "/join higherlearning" and "/join bookclub" in chat). Even though these chat channels are not used as often as in pre-cata days, people who join them will advice you, when they find one of the books (or at least they ought to).

I have made this guide for two reasons:
To customize myself with Wowheads new guide feature and to provide an easily accesible overview of how to obtain Higher Learning.
I completed Higher Learning on my first character in 2009 and have since then got the
肯瑞托魔仆
on another six toons. Even back then the amount of wowhead comments on how to complete Higher Learning was overwhelming and not easily accesible. It required thorough comparative studies of hundreds of notes on spawn times, possible locations of the books, whether or not they despawned etc. to figure out, what was true and what was false. And the amount of information has not become any less since then.
Most - if not all - of the information in this guide can be found by going through the many comments on different wowhead pages - but hopefully this guide provides a more easily accessible overview for those who have not yet completed their quest for Higher Learning.

Guide looks great, as does the map with the screenshots. I just went through all the location and found 1 "fake book". Assuming all locations are correct, this guide made everything perfectly clear!
PS: maybe it would be better to note that others can "steal" away the books before you, more clearly.

The books respawn immediately after a server reset so if you are on right when the servers come back up you should check all the spawn points (although they can still be the "fake" books).

Thanks a lot for the guide, it's a very good starting point. There is something I don't understand though... you say to go back to the spawn point 3 hours after reading a book, but it could be up to 4 hours, right? Because I've been waiting now for 20 minutes and nothing happens (after the 3 hours elapsed). I would appreciate if you could clarify this ;-)

This guide is the best. I had given up all hope of ever finding all 8 books then I found this awesome guide that has now helped me to find some of the books. Before I was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off but now I know what to do.

The only thing that might be useful (or just generally interesting) is a list of the "fake books" that show up? I'm not sure if there is a regular rotation of the fakes, but the first book I came across was called
STAY OUT!
. I'd be curious to know what the other fakes are?

I would do a check of one or two books each morning between 8 - 10 am, learn the drop times, and then go off and do other things until the next book drop. The book of Illusion is the most illusive. The drops(random and correct books), at least for me, seemed to be 3 and a half to 4 hour intervals for all of them.
All you need is patience and persistence.

Realm jump seems like it's working for this. I found one book (and not fake one) on a different realm while on mine there wasn't one.

This is the most BS achieve in the entire game. I swear. Somehow people are still constantly snagging the books and no matter how much server hopping I do I find like two fake books but otherwise empty spawn points.
So stupid and annoying.

Good guide and comments as well. I found 7 of 8 books in about 1 hour 40 minutes using the add-on cross realm assist. I'm camping the last spot now so hopefully it won't take much longer.

With Legion there are now two zones called "dalaran" so the updated TomTom macro should look like this:

Hi, I got the achi today, but I admit I was quite desperate with the Illusion tome.. I can confirm that it still spawns, and within the 3 to 4 hours timer. The only issue is you often get the fake version (I'd say, more often than with the other 5 books).

While waiting for the Illusion book today, one spawned at 11:55am. Next book should have spawned between 2:55pm and 3:55pm for the 3-4 hour timer to still hold. Another (fake) book didn't spawn until 4:25pm, so exactly 4.5 hours after the last book. So at least this book location can take longer than 4 hours to spawn, I'm guessing the upward limit is 4.5 hours.
Not sure if this is just a random outlier that can occasionally happen, even back when this was current in WotLK, or if Blizz changed the spawn time window in a more recent expansion. Most comments say the windows is no less than 3, no more than 4.
From searching wowhead comments, it does seem like the Illusion book located near the Violet Hold tends be slightly more annoying than others to obtain. No guess if that's because of a lower spawn rate, or just pure RNG.
Hope this helps and it doesn't hurt to wait a little past that 4 hour mark - only need to do this achievement once, after all. Good luck!
Edit:
So no sooner did I post this, I checked the spot again and there was the illusion book, I read it and the achievement popped and I got a mail alert from Rhonin. My advice is just
be prepared to wait
at the spawn locations for a few hours.
