General BjarngrimVolkhan IonarLoken
(Heroic) is a level 80 dungeon found in the Terrace of the Makers in the Storm Peaks in Northrend. While players of level 80+ can access the dungeon in its original form at any time, this dungeon is one of the five Wrath of the Lich King instances available during Timewalking holidays in Patch 6.2. This guide will describe how to complete the dungeon in its Timewalking form.
The entrance is located in northern Storm Peaks, and you can also queue up via the Adventure Journal panel.
Loot and Rewards
This instance can be soloed by high-level players outside of Timewalking weekends. However, there are several reasons to queue up for this instance as part of the Timewalking holiday:
Completing 5 Timewalking dungeons in
rewards
which is the bonus roll currency for Tier 18 and Mythic Dungeon loot, as well as a
containing normal-mode Hellfire Citadel loot.
The gear earned from Timewalking bosses is ilvl 660, which is better than gear from Heroic Dungeons, Highmaul Normal, and Highmaul LFR.
If you did not run this instance back in the day, Timewalking is a great opportunity to learn more about the instance with friends. Players above level 81 can queue together for this Timewalking instance, so this is a fun way to play with friends that are not max level.
All bosses drop 5

achievement or just out of impatience in waiting for his patrol, but the fight is much harder to defeat when Bjarngrim is buffed in this way.
Notable Trash Mobs:
Do not move with Arc WeldThere are several packs of trash along the walkways, and since one of the enemy mobs frequently leaps back, it is easy to accidentally pull a patrol. Tanks should pull carefully in this section of the instance to avoid being overwhelmed by trash.

Skycallers and Tacticians should be priority targets since their abilities are the most deadly to deal with.
General Bjarngrim Tips & Strategy
Players should be careful to only engage General Bjarngrim when he is not in range of any packs of trash, particularly if Bjarngrim is buffed by
at the time.
Bjarngrim is accompanied by two
s.
Lieutenants will periodically debuff players with
, like the trash ability of the same name
Lieutenants will also attempt to heal Bjarngrim (or any other adds accompanying him)
, a channeled ability that heals for 10% of the target's health every 2 seconds
should be interrupted, and Lieutenants should be killed first
General Bjarngrim's abilities vary depending on which of three stances he is in, and he will switch stances approximately every 35 seconds. While in a stance, Bjarngrim also imparts some of the benefits of that stance to his allies through a corresponding aura.
Knock Away is dangerous for players with Arc WeldWhen Bjarngrim is in

He and all his allies take 25% less damage due to

He and all his allies will deal 25% additional damage due to
He will occasionally

He will

He will cast
, dealing extremely heavy damage to players who remain within 8 yards of him
Players should take care to limit their movement while the Stormforged Lieutenants are active, so that
is not fatal, but should run away from Bjarngrim if he uses
. Interrupt the Lieutenants and otherwise focus on killing the boss and staying out of range of
and other similar effects.
Tank's Responsibilities:
Use a survivability cooldown during
and
Move the boss away from other players as he begins to cast
If affected by
, limit your movement other than for
Interrupt the Stormforged Lieutenants'
Damage-Dealers' Responsibilities:
Prioritize the Stormforged Lieutenants over Bjarngrim, particularly if Bjarngrim is in
Avoid moving while debuffed by
, or use a survivability cooldown if movement is necessary
Melee DPS should avoid standing in front of the boss so they do not take
damage, and should run away when Bjarngrim begins to cast
Ranged DPS should stay more than 15 yards from Bjarngrim to avoid taking
or
damage
Healer's Responsibilities:
Tank damage will be very heavy while all three enemies are alive, if the tank is affected by
or

Players who stand in

Volkhan
Notable Trash Mobs:
Slags explode when they dieThe room leading to Volkhan is a tiny gauntlet; players must push their way through dozens of
mobs to reach the stairs on the opposite side.
Slags have a passive
ability, which stacks on players within 30 yards, reducing their armor
This can make a stray Slag's melee hits very dangerous, and the tank will take very heavy damage
When Slags die, they cast
, dealing moderate damage to players within 10 yards of them
Tanks should gather the Slags and pull them to the stairs on the opposite side of the room. Players can carefully damage a few Slags along the way, so that when the party reaches the stairs and begins to AoE the Slags down, they do not all die at once. Players should try to remain more than 10 yards from the Slags as they die, but this is not always possible due to the cramped space on the stairs.
Once players get past the Slags, there are two new enemy types for players to contend with:
s will deal additional fire damage with each melee attack due to
These Steamragers also have a cone attack,
, that the tank should aim away from the party; this ability deals damage and knocks players back
s attack their target with
, and will buff themselves with
, increasing their melee damage
can be removed by classes with offensive dispels
These packs are dangerous if the Firestorms'
remains active for too long. Players should remove the buff when possible, or swap to and burst down a buffed Firestorm.
Volkhan Tips & Strategy
Volkhan runs to his Anvil at 66% health to summon Molten Golems
is a very straightforward single-target fight that requires some movement. Players encounter Volkhan near his Anvil, which he will use during the fight to summon
s that can be kited, tanked, or killed, depending upon the party's strategy.
Volkhan has very few abilities, mostly centered on the Molten Golem interaction.
At 66% health, Volkhan will run to Volkhan's Anvil and strike it, summoning two Molten Golems
Molten Golems gradually
, losing health, and deactivate - becoming Cooled Golems - when they reach 1 health point
At 25% health, Volkhan will use a
, damaging all players and shattering any Cooled Golems
deals heavy damage to players within 10 yards of the Cooled Golem
However, Volkhan no longer summons Molten Golems frequently enough, nor survives long enough against player damage, for the
mechanic to be a problem; players can simply kite or tank the Molten Golems and focus all damage on Volkhan. When Volkhan reaches 25% health and uses
, no Golems will be Cooled, and so no
damage will occur.
If players do choose to kill the Golems, they must simply move away from the deactivated Golems when Volkhan's health approaches 25%.
Molten Golems will attack with
, leaving a weak, Magical DoT effect that healers can dispel, and will also cast
, slowing the players' movement speed. Both of these abilities require the target to be in melee range of the Golem.
Molten GolemTank's Responsibilities:
Taunt Molten Golems off of other players if they are at danger of dying to the Golem's melee attacks
Damage-Dealers' Responsibilities:
Focus damage on Volkhan unless your group's strategy is to kill Molten Golems
If your strategy is not to kill Golems, then kite or tank the Golems
Healer's Responsibilities:
Most of the damage in this fight is single-target; spot heal players who are injured
Use AoE healing to counter the
If targeted by a Molten Golem, kite it to reduce your damage taken
Ionar
Notable Trash Mobs:
Frightening ShoutThe hallway leading out of Volkhan's room is lined with what appears to be statues of fighters equipped with axes or swords, but as players pass by, some of the statues will awaken.
s cast
, taking reduced damage from attacks, and will
their weapon at their target, dealing heavy damage
Thunderers may also cast
at an enemy, dealing moderate damage and interrupting spell casts
s will damage the tank heavily with
, which ignores armor, and will buff themselves with
and
Siegebreakers also have two forms of CC they will use against players:
, which Dazes players within 10 yards for 6 seconds, and
, which causes players within 8 yards to run in Fear for 6 seconds
Because the Siegebreakers' Fear effect can cause players to pull additional packs, they should be the primary kill target in these packs.
Players will encounter three sets of these ambushing enemies as they pass through the hallway.
Ionar's room is populated by several varieties of storm elementals:
s are small, low-health enemies that deal only melee damage, and can be easily killed with efficient AoE
s will cast
on random players, dealing heavy damage and leaving a Magical debuff that can be dispelled
Revenants may also cast
, which deals moderate damage to its target and will jump to nearby players
The
will
a player, banishing them for 4 seconds, and will attack targets with
These packs are spread out, and are only dangerous if the healer is affected by the Storming Vortex's
. Players should interrupt
and focus on the Storming Vortex as the priority DPS target.
Ionar Tips & Strategy
Static Overload
is a simple single-target encounter with only a few mechanics for players to deal with:
Ionar targets a random player with
, a DoT effect that deals periodic damage to nearby players
When
expires, it will detonate, causing nearby players to take moderate damage and be knocked back
Ionar will throw
at a random player, dealing moderate Nature damage to the target and other nearby players
Players should stay spread out during the encounter to manage the
and
mechanics.
When Ionar reaches 50% health, he will begin to cast
, dissolving into small
adds.
The Sparks of Ionar will chase random players for 15 seconds
Players coming within 5 yards of a Spark of Ionar will take damage from
The
effect can stack, so players near multiple Sparks of Ionar are likely to die
Players should scatter, so that no two players are following the same path or are causing the Sparks chasing them to intercept other players.
After 15 seconds, the Sparks of Ionar will stop chasing players, and will converge upon Ionar's last position. Ionar reforms, and players contend with
and
until they have defeated the boss.
Run away from Sparks of IonarTank's Responsibilities:
Be sure not to be too close to the ranged or to other melee DPS to avoid spreading
or
damage
If affected by
, try to position so that the melee DPS do not take its damage
Do not rush too quickly to the location at which Ionar will reform once Sparks of Ionar begin to converge - the
damage will be fatal
Quickly taunt Ionar when he reforms
Damage-Dealers' Responsibilities:
When possible, stay more than 10 yards from other players
If affected by
, move away from others
Run away from Sparks of Ionar and away from other players kiting the Sparks
Do not rush too quickly to the location at which Ionar will reform once Sparks of Ionar begin to converge - the
damage will be fatal
Healer's Responsibilities:
Players targeted by
will take moderate to heavy damage and will require your attention
Players who do not run away from Sparks of Ionar, especially at the start of the
phase, or who return to Ionar's location too quickly, will likely take fatal or near-fatal
damage; you may have to use CDs to save them
When possible, stay more than 10 yards from other players
If affected by
, move away from others
Run away from Sparks of Ionar and away from other players kiting the Sparks
Loken
Notable Trash Mobs:
The room just past Ionar is the most challenging set of trash in the instance, primarily due to the close proximity of trash packs and the presence of a few patrols. This room holds some familiar enemies - the Stormforged Tactician reappears - and also introduces new ones:
s cast
, affecting players in front of the Construct, and attack tanks with
Constructs will also choose a random player and channel
on them, dealing moderate damage each second and immobilizing the target for 6 seconds
s will choose a random player to put to
Sentinels may also heal other enemies with
, and will buff them with
, increasing their damage dealt
s will cast
, a whirlwind-type ability that deals very heavy damage to players within range, and also deals Nature damage to a random target with each tick
Runeshapers will also use
to free other enemies from crowd control effects
Titanium Vanguards will
players at range, knocking them back, and will throw a
at a random player, dealing very heavy damage up-front and leaving a strong Poison DoT effect
Charged FlurryOf these targets, Runeshapers are the most dangerous, and should be the priority kill targets, with players interrupting
quickly. Vanguards are also dangerous due to the knock-back on
, which can cause players to pull additional packs. Tanks should pull the current pack of enemies back, and all players should be aware of their positioning.
In Loken's room, players will also encounter
s. These enemies should be fought alone.
Giants will attack the tanks with
, dealing heavy damage and reducing the effects of incoming healing by 50%
They also target random players with
, dealing heavy damage
Giants will knock players back and damage them with
Clear out the patrolling Stormforged Constructs before engaging the Stormforged Giants, and pull the Giants back to avoid players being knocked back into other trash mobs.
Loken Tips & Strategy
The
encounter is a simple single-target fight where players' only real concern is dealing as much damage to Loken as possible.
Loken deals passive damage to all party members every two seconds with
; players who are farther away from Loken take more damage from this ability
Loken will occasionally cast a
, which deals very heavy damage to players near Loken, and decreases in damage as players move farther away
He will also debuff a random player with
, causing that player to shock other players within 10 yards
This fight is best completed by having players stay relatively close to Loken to minimize the
damage. Players should not stack, however, or else
will quickly deal fatal damage.
When Loken begins to cast
, players without strong personal survivability cooldowns should run out. Healers can use raid CDs to heal the party after the Nova cast completes.
Move away or use a CD for Lightning NovaTank's Responsibilities:
Stand at maximum melee range from the boss to avoid sharing
damage
Damage-Dealers' Responsibilities:
If affected by
, move more than 10 yards away from allies
Healer's Responsibilities:
Tank healing will be demanding, but party damage should be fairly light outside of
Use ground-based AoE heals where possible to heal the party while you focus on the tanks
Use a throughput or damage-reduction cooldown for each
If affected by
, move more than 10 yards away from allies
