They say that they wanted to kill off Archaeology after it´s implementation in Cataclysm

At this point, it´s been going on for so long that they can´t just stop it now

The shadowlands has plenty of artefacts to discover, but they are still taking a break since they wanted it to be the discovery of Azeroth´s history, so it might be updates for patch 10.0

Battle for Azeroth

New Races: "Drust" "Zandalari"

There is now 5 digsites each on Kul Tiras and Zandalar. It rotates 5 around and it won't end up with 10 on one of the isles.

You will get 5-9 fragments each dig and there is 9 digs per site.

We're back to the old fashion farming method where you randomly get a rare when solving, since they now cost fragments.

Legion

New Races: "Demonic" , "Highborne" and "Highmountain Taurens"

There are now 3 digsites at a time (down from 4) and they are in a smaller area than before so you don't have to run all over the red marked area.

New visual icon over your head. A buff too, indicating you're inside of a dig site.

Legion Crate Vendor: Dariness the Learned.

Pick up Excavator's Notebook when excavating in Broken Isles to increase maximum skill to 800.

There is now an Archaeology building in Dalaran where you pick up quests and train with Dariness the Learned. She hands you a quest every 2 weeks to get one of the rare solves which rotates.

Warlords of Draenor

New races: "Arakkoa" , "Draenor Clans" and "Ogre" - To teleport around Draenor getting them easier you should use Draenor Archaeologist's Lodestone

You get 6 9 digs in each area, ~~making up for the lack of flying in Draenor~~.

They removed the way of progressing by having to visit a trainer to unlock the next stage (600-700) in professions. Now you dig up Brittle Cartography Journal

Just like in Pandaria, there will be a mob occasionally spawning that will give you additional fragments.

You will be getting a Restored Artifact for every solve you do in Draenor. Trade them in at Srikka Grakis

In the Spires of Arakkoa, there are several jumping puzzles like on Timeless Isle where you loot chests for fragments. (Flying made these quite easy)

You will be getting pristine versions of finds more often, and they will show up in your Garrison. Like in the Seat of Knowledge in Pandaria.

Mists of Pandaria

Races: "Mantid" , "Mogu" and "Pandaren"

You get a Restored Artifact for every solve you do in Pandaria

You can buy a Restored Artifact for 3 Spirit of Harmony from the vendors Danky Krystel

From Brann Bronzebeard in Seat of Knowledge you can turn these in for a Crate from earlier expansions. Each crate contains equal to 1 dig in desired race's digsite (5-9 Fragments)

For the quickest way to farm Mantid fragments:

Buy Mantid Artifact Hunter's Kit (Cost: 2 Restored Artifact) which contains Mantid Artifact Sonic Locator and Lorewalker's Map

Have Mantid Artifact Sonic Locator in your bags the whole time you are farming, it has a 1 Day CD and does NOT disappear when you log out of the game, so if you use the Mantid Artifact Hunter's Kit at 12:00pm server time, you can still farm at 11:00am the next day before you buy a new one.

You might wonder why you got a Lorewalker's Map in your bags too, that is because now the other digsites you may have in Pandaria is obsolete/deactivated and you have to use the Map to discard old digsites and create new ones around Townlong Steppes and Dread Wastes.

Regarding Recipe: Vial of the Sands. Do I have to be in uldum when I open the canopic jar in order to receive the Recipe drop? There seems to be some confusion as to whether there is a zone position requirement?

I am new to Archaeology. So that means I am leveling it up in WoD. Should I stay in Draenor to do so or do it the old and go from zone to zone? Will I still get some of the old world item, pets, mounts, etc by staying Draenor? Thank you.

Tips to collect 30 rares 寻找事实，而非真理

1)The best class for this is a druid but if you're like me and queue Bg's and Hdungs while digging you might end up with a non druid class...

1.2) For achievement hunters: wait for hallow's end event you will get instant cast on flying with the magic broom.

2) Try to do the achievement Draenor Curator ( all pristines) first: you will get at least 350 crates to complete olders xpac archeology at the seat of knowledge by buying fragments.
Choose your race well( go to tip4)

Ex.: Had 300 crates to use after the achievement and got very lucky at the seat of knowledge got 5 rares, 1 fossilized raptor and a crawling claw. (All Tol'vir and Nelf for me)

3) Try to buy keystones at the AH to cut time. Auctionator List: dwarf rune, vrykul rune, highborne scroll, mantid amber, pandaren pottery, mogu statue, nerubian obelisk, arakkoa cipher,orator cane, tol'vir hieroglyphic, ogre missive, troll tablet, Orc Blood Text, Draenei Tome (no fossil keystone available)

4) Choose the best rare/race ratio to survey:

Nelf(7), Tol'vir(6), Fossil(5), Dwarf(4), Troll(3)
(2):Vrykul, Nerubian, Draenei ,Mantid, Pandaren, Mogu, Arakkoa, Draenor clans, Ogre
(1) Orc

5) The best region to survey

#1 Kalimdor: Only place for Nelf(7), Tol'vir(6). Some Troll (3), Fossil(5) in Tanaris and Ungoro
#2 Eastern Kingdoms: Only place for Dwarf(4). Some Troll(3) Some Fossil(5)

Depending on what you mean by "Legion crate turn-in" is wrong. You can turn-in restored artifacts to Dariness the Learned for fragments up until WoD archaeology.

As far as Dariness giving you a quest for a rare every 2 weeks, I personally haven't run into this. Legion is now just over 3 weeks old. I have 1 completed rare. Which I don't even remember doing. Unless it's from completing the another quest that doesn't state the reward is completion of a rare.

After completing a quest from the Blood Elf by Illidari Stand in Azsuna. I completed another Rare. Still nothing from Dariness YET.

I am really disappointed in BFA archaeology where the pristine objects come into play. This was my "suggestion" to the Dev team:

"Don't mean to be sarcastic, but exactly why are we putting pristine archaeology finds 'on display' in a cluttered, out of the way, and cramped basement? I'd really like to see this moved to somewhere a LOT nicer. I know that won't happen, but sometimes you just gotta try. Thanks."

This may seem petty, but archaeology has always been a time-sucker, and, with where many of the BFA sites are, it's now even more so. I'd just like a little more quality in my "museum."

I am so disappointed with Arch. and basically everything that has been done with Profs., and secondaries. I think i already have all the "rares" from BFA and sadly they all blow. TOYS really. Loved when this first came out they took a lot of time created great story for all the items hell some were current and could be used for raids. What do we get with this I can summon frogs, and do pet battle with my revived artifact things. Blizzard what is the deal you keep taking and taking all secondary options away from people who are casual. I'm sorry but when animals were not rabid or didn't scale you could do secondary things for FUN. Now arch is a constant battle with the pieces always seeming to spawn just close enough for the add to attack. You basically turned every profession into an insane grind. I have had issues login in since Legion and this content isn't much better. It's just new correction was now it all a time since gated by Blizzard.

I have managed to complete Archaeology and have all 63/63 rare artifacts solved that are in the game. Honestly, this is not a farm that I can recommend to the sane-minded people out there. However, if you do want to collect all the solves, then do NOT do this farm without having something to watch/listen to. Here is my breakdown of all the races and number of their corresponding solves; (I'm posting this knowingly to discourage any of you to ever commence this torture)

Quiet honestly, I don't think anyone on EU/US or any other region has more solves than this, I consider this to be a very unlucky run. Had to solve 1,000+ Tol'vir trash for the Staff of Ammunae alone.
