惩罚 - This provides a lot of extra offensive and defensive value against single targets. Maintaining 2 stacks on average is really easy, and an easy 6% damage reduction (or more) is really good for a single talent point.

天神下凡 - This is your main offensive cooldown, and it's really, really strong. It has great talent synergy elsewhere in the tree, as well.

愤怒掌控 - Speaking of talent synergy! This talent provides so much offensive and defensive cooldown uptime for a single point. It's extremely rewarding, and it creates a positive feedback loop with Rage generation. Generating more Rage reduces the cooldown of Avatar, which helps you generate more Rage, which reduces its cooldown, etc.

磐固壁垒 - And even more talent synergy. This grants Rage to fuel the whole rotation, and it shaves 5 seconds off of Shield Wall's remaining cooldown every time you Shield Slam (every 5 seconds or less, on average). It's just great!

撕裂 - A very strong DoT that grants Rage generation via 血涌. It's a little annoying to use, but that is solved by the following talent:

鲜血与雷鸣 - This is a direct damage increase, it's got amazing talent synergy, it's just great. This really makes the class work so smoothly. It's just incredible how well-designed this class is now.

裂地回响 - This passively adds a free 30% extra damage onto your main AoE damage-dealing skill. It's great.

胜利在望 - An excellent, inexpensive self-heal that you should make full use of while leveling. This will save your bacon plenty of times.

Why would anyone use 威吓 on raid. taking 腾跃步伐 would much be better option for mobilty. Using 威吓 and waiting the adds fear is just a waste of hope you would waste on a talent. And if there is a cleave go for 爆裂闪电 would be much easy to do more dps.

Thank you very much for writing this guide, LLarold.

I highly, highly recommend adding an extra build for "Soloing Elites" or a title like that, and using Impending Victory with any other talents you recommend for that build, since the Protection Warrior is probably the only tanking spec that needs to fine-tuned, at the very least by activating Impending Victory, for the sole purpose of soloing elites, especially when slightly overgeared.

I speak from personal experience, by the way. I rarely — if ever — have any trouble soloing challenging mobs in the other tanking classes and specs, while just using the standard dungeons or raiding build (but raiding applies more often naturally since soloing elites and raiding have more similarities than soloing elites and dungeons have). However, when slightly undergeared, I cannot solo certain challenging mobs as a Protection Warrior without Impending Victory at the very least, so I think any Protection Warrior guide should be highlighting this for new and returning players via a specialized build for the purpose of soloing elites.

Why is Rend a better choice than Instigate? Revenge is more damage for less rage, so I don't see why you'd ever use Rend. Is it just to apply a bleed?

Nevermind, I see: Blood and Thunder applies Rend to targets hit by Thunderclap if you have Rend, no GCD or rage spending required. :)

I wish Rend was a passive instead of the another skill to press because reasons. Purging Rend from the toolbar is the reason why I even played war during Legion and beyond. At least the synergy is nice with Blood and Thunder. Why we even have to talent into another talent just to forget the former is still a stupid decision when that was already a thing. For Arms and Fury that becomes another topic though.

The Mythic+ build says to choose Heavy Repercussions, but if you go to the Key Talents tab, Into the Fray is chosen instead. So which is it?

For Mythic Plus replace thunderlord for one point into bloodborne. Get battering ram. Makes your burst cds line up basically every time.Go brrr enjoy. Also, drop stormbolt and take the fear. Don't be a dummy. Additionally at the higher level we drop tough as nails for spellblock or we put two points into bloodborne.
