What is the BiS Shadow Priest gear?
With many different sources of gearing and loot scarcity in The War Within, targeting your absolute Best in Slot gear isn't entirely realistic; instead, we've created a Best in Slot list from the ideal Shadow Priest drops found in from Mythic+ Dungeons and Raids to help you decide what to prioritize.
As a rough guideline follow the stat priority of:
Haste > Mastery >= Critical Strike > Versatility
. Don't neglect the value of
Intellect
, a substantial increase in ilvl is generally worth it compared to optimized stats. It is always recommended that you use
Raidbots
to sim your own character since every character has different circumstances.

As usual with Mythic+ items, while there may be a theoretical best-in-slot selection for each slot in a simulation, it’s unlikely you’ll ever be able to achieve such a perfect character in reality. Shadow Priests should focus on seeking items that prioritize Haste and Mastery for the most part, with Critical Strike and Versatility both providing value as second choices.

Shadow Priests are mainly looking for one powerful on-use trinket to pair with their cooldowns, and a supplementary either proc or flat stat trinket.

Strong trinket with main stat stacking effect and an on-use that accrues value passively, this is excellent for using alongside major cooldowns and at difficult parts of a boss or dungeon.
A Tier
]Explanation
Unbound Changeling can proc a random secondary stat, but also has a chance to "change" into a version that grants ALL secondary stats, this chance can occur the first time you eat food in-game for the day.
]Explanation
Unique trinket that grants intellect once eggs are spawned, when they hatch, damage is also dealt. This trinket is finnicky to use and requires a long time to get full value, but can be interesting in some situations.
]Explanation
This is a strong passive trinket that provides passive stats generated by your damage over time ticks.
]Explanation
This trinket provides an on use damage effect every 90 seconds after the perform a simple task such as jump or collect an orb. Unfortunately at 90 seconds this does not line up well with any of our cooldowns.
]Explanation
Quite powerful baseline intellect with a secondary proc effect trinket. Can also be farmed outside raid (The Dawnbreaker).
B Tier
]Explanation
This is an interesting passive trinket which will spawn waterspouts randomly, increased in damage by the number of targets hit.
]Explanation
Trinket provides a baseline intellect but with a damage effect that increases per target hit. It's a fine direct damage option, though nothing to target or aim for generally.
]Explanation
Trinket that grants both main and secondary stats based on movement. Can also be "used" to suspend your current buffs to allow more flexibility.
Other Trinkets
The other trinkets listed in C or below are acceptable, but certainly not optimal. You should look to replace them with better options quickly.
Best Items to Upgrade for Shadow Priest
Completing endgame activities in The War Within will award you with
Harbinger Crests
and
Valorstones
. You can use these currencies to upgrade items you obtain to their max potential (explained in this guide). Due to the more powerful items requiring the limited currency of Crests on a weekly lockout, it means your decision making early on can be difficult. In general, you want to prioritize items you've obtained at the highest upgrade track you can obtain, with the following criteria to decide on the item:
Strong Trinkets
Explanation
Trinkets often vary in value and chase ones (such as
间谍大师裹网
) are often hard to obtain early on. It is best to sim your optimal upgrades using RaidBots, but high priority trinkets are always a strong first choice, depending on your Weapon situation.
Main Hand Weapon
Explanation
This is your first priority to get high item level, but you do have an alternative option in crafting if you wish. If you get hold of a good enough option here, it may be better to do this and switch your

priority accordingly.
Lowest Item Level Pieces
Explanation
Following key pieces, bringing up the item level of pieces you don't expect to get hold of at a higher item level in the near future to remove the Crest requirement is best. Ideally you should do Helm, Chest and Legs first due to their stat budget, but after that go off sims.
Best Crafted Gear for Shadow Priest
Recommended Crafting Order
2H vs 1H weapon is a bit of a question as to how quickly you can get a high ilvl MH / Weapon. For a lot of people the 2H with double spark and just committing to a 590 off piece like Cloak / Bracers with
蠕动装甲带
will be optimal for early season. Long term BiS is ] with :11300].
Crafting a 2H Weapon is going to be the best option for most people, if you do this, do so with the
暗月徽记：扬升
embellishment. Make sure this is an INTELLECT weapon.
Craft

if you crafted a 2h weapon and no longer have any more sparks, this can really go on a lot of different slots, it doesn't have to be wrists. Once you have a 3rd spark, upgrade this to
圣化腕扣
or the equivalent on another slot.
Alternatively if you get a high ilvl weapon early on you can craft items with
萤暮线内衬
on them.
Any Low Item Level Piece.
Crafting Notes
暗月徽记：扬升
is an embellishment that applies to weapons and provides a stacking buff over time. This is excellent for Raiding and Mythic+ alike and will be your go to embellishment option, paired with a
蠕动装甲带
to double its strength.
The crafted ring :8791] is a rather strong crafted option, but involves a unique mechanic where you have to pair to a specific ally "permanently" until you decide to pay the cost to change to a different player. There is potential for this to be strong much later down the line, especially for those doing Mythic+ dungeons with an organised group, but it is unlikely to be desired early on.
晖晨线内衬
is a passive embellishment effect with a condition that is entirely reminiscent of
蓝缎内衬
from Dragonflight. In this case, it can be reasonably expected that most players will maintain decent uptime of this effect by remaining above 80% health in most content, outside of certain dangerous moments in specific encounters.
Critical Strike is not one of Shadow's better stats this expansion, but due to the weakness of embellishments as a whole it is still a good choice if you don't want to or can't use a crafted weapon embellishment.
萤暮线内衬
is a passive embellishment effect with a condition that is entirely reminiscent of
蓝缎内衬
from Dragonflight. In this case, it can be reasonably expected that most players will maintain decent uptime of this effect by remaining above 80% health in most content, outside of certain dangerous moments in specific encounters.
Versatility is not one of Shadow's better stats this expansion, but due to the weakness of embellishments as a whole it is still a good choice if you don't want to or can't use a crafted weapon embellishment.
暗月徽记：共生
is another option for a weapon embellishment for Shadow Priest, however it is notably behind other options.
暗月徽记：盎溢
is an interesting embellishment concept but falls flat due to Shadow only being able to cast spells from 1 spell school consistently. It is also poorly tuned.

is a rather straightforward effect that adapts to your stat priority by providing you a boost to your highest secondary stat. This effect isn't particularly powerful, and cannot be doubled up through the use of

.
Your

items are required for crafting some of the most powerful The War Within equipment, so you should spend them wisely, aiming to craft them at the highest possible item level. Note that you can always use the recrafting system later down the line if you want to upgrade pieces, so there's no need to hoard them if there's something big you can get now. Much like early in Dragonflight, these are time-gated, with you receiving one every two weeks, and can be upgraded all the way up to
Item Level 636
.

crafts should aim to craft the highest impact item that's least likely to see a replacement from other sources due to their scarcity. Every craft you perform should aim to use a

Haste and Mastery

Best Embellishments
Embellishments are generally a LOT less powerful than they were in Dragonflight. Very few of them scale with ilvl and their average contribution is less than 1% per.

- Is typically seen as our best Embellishment for both M+ and Raid. It does fall off in between M+ pulls, which you might see as bad, but Embellishments are so undertuned that it doesn't matter. You want this with
蠕动装甲带

and
萤暮线内衬
are both fine, but generally slightly worse. Versatility is typically preferred due to the minor defensive benefit in this case.

is another option if the uptime requirements of
晖晨线内衬
and
萤暮线内衬
aren't to your liking and you do not have an embellished weapon.
Using the optional
Embellishment
items when crafting your gear provides small extra benefits to the item should the craft be successful. These effects are often quite minor and mostly considered a cherry on top.

I think this should be self-explanatory, but this guide only shows the best items that drop from the raid, it isn't actually a Shadow Priests's exact BiS gear.

"From early sim data, intellect is worth 3 times as much as haste, which is our top secondary stat. Due to the vast amounts of sources of gear and the limited amount of time pre patch will be available, it's not recommended to completely swap to a haste/mastery set as a full haste/crit set isn't too far behind and still does comparable DPS."
If that's the case shouldn't Vita be dropped for other trinkets in Nyalotha such as Humming Black Dragonscale that has INT and can proc haste or Forbidden Obsidian Claw that has INT and a very strong on demand DOT or even Manifesto of Madness that also has INT and the ability to get Crit/Vers (though they are on the lower end of our secondaries).
Might need to take a second look at this?

The Mythic+ gear lists two items as drops from Halls of Valor, but they are actually from The Nokhud Offensive.

The trinkets seem way off, Spiteful Storm is not good, Invokers Codex is much better its also from Raszegath and not Nokhud. Both of the PvP trinkets are better than most listed as well.

Based on my sims I think the Glove Slot is going to be a better slot for the

embellishment than the Chest due to the

being heavy on Versatility and light on Haste. The heavy Crit on

is going to outweigh the relatively small amount of Haste on the Gloves.

"Ominous Chromatic Essence you should aim to use either the Emerald or Obsidian buffs." - Emerald is crit, which is listed as one of the worst stats (to the point of classifying Screaming Black Dragonscale as an "F" trinket, because its proc gives crit. So... that doesn't really make sense.

Hello! I'm wondering why Rod of Perfect Order (offhand) isn't better than Trickster's Captivating Chime (offhand)? They both have the same int, they're both haste/mastery, but Perfect Order has more haste than Trickster's. I thought Haste was our better stat? Surely Rod of Perfect Order is better, then?
