Changes To Venthyr Protection Paladins in 9.2
Covenant Changes
红烬圣土
(Venthyr Ability) can now be canceled early by pressing its button again.
红烬圣土
(Venthyr Ability) healing reduced by 15% for all specializations.
Legendary Changes
耀光余烬
Ashen Hallow's duration is increased by 50%. Canceling your Ashen Hallow early will reduce its cooldown (was Leaving the hallowed area will end the effect and its cooldown will be reduced) by up to 50%, proportional to its remaining duration.
There was a 15% reduction in
红烬圣土
's healing component. While this makes it less potent as a healing cooldown, it won't affect the covenant's core underlying strength. Venthyr will still be played for the benefits it provides in terms of damage output and its strong soulbinds.
There was a change to allow you to manually cancel
红烬圣土
. This will allow it to line up with
复仇之怒
if needed.
There was one change to
耀光余烬
in 9.2. Since, you can now manually cancel
红烬圣土
, the legendary will now apply cooldown reduction based on that. It will no longer automatically cancel your
红烬圣土
casts when you leave its area. The cooldown reduction works exactly the same as it did in 9.1.5.
Venthyr Protection Paladin Covenant Abilities
So you've chosen to align yourself with the Venthyr of Revendreth. They offer many advantages to a Protection Paladin. As a part of your choice, you'll get access to cool armor, new progression systems, world content, and two new abilities:

暗影之门
. In this guide, we'll talk specifically about these abilities, the Soulbinds paths and how they might interact with the rest of your kit.
Venthyr Protection Paladin Class Ability:

The class ability for the Venthyr is
红烬圣土
. Visually, it's a cool ability that drops a red circle at the targeted location that does damage to enemies and healing to allies. But the ability is deeper than this baseline functionality. Let's review some strengths and weaknesses.
Strengths
Very High Damage that Scales up to 5 Targets
High Group Healing
Enables High Damage

Weaknesses
Tethers you to one spot so if you have to move, you could lose damage or healing
Can overlap with Avenging Wrath or Execute Phase so extra

casts are just bonus damage but not a resource gain
Venthyr Conduit for Ashen Hallow
Like all Covenant Class abilities, there is a Conduit available:

. This is the best conduit for Venthyr Prot. Paladins and you should always be using it. The conduit is a passive DPS increase for when you use

Venthyr Protection Paladin Signature Ability:

The signature ability for Venthyr is

that will allow you to move to a targeted location on-demand. It's really strong if you can pre-plan, such as moving quickly in response to a specific mechanic. However, cast time spells should not be used while tanking actively. Knowledge of encounters and content will help you maximize this ability.
Venthyr Exclusive Legendary for Protection
耀光余烬
Ashen Hallow's duration is increased by 50%. Canceling your Ashen Hallow early will reduce its cooldown by up to 50%, proportional to its remaining duration.
This is a weak legendary that provides linear CDR based on how long you stay in or move out of Ashen Hallow. In terms of raw damage, it won't be better than
疯狂圣贤
. Do not craft for now.
Other Interactions for Venthyr Protection Paladin
Currently, the two legendary powers that get enhanced are the

.

allows you to cast
愤怒之锤
while standing it and both powers allow you to cast more super charged
愤怒之锤
when
红烬圣土
is active. You would only use these legendary powers for DPS so you should sim them on Raidbots to figure out if they are DPS increases.

Best Venthyr Protection Paladin Soulbinds
In this section, you'll find a breakdown of what Soulbind layouts to use.
Best Venthyr Protection Paladin Renown 80 Soulbind
For raid situations with low movement, you'll want to use Theotar as that provides

. It's really strong for damage and damage reduction but loses value if you have to move often.
For raid situations with high movement, you'll want to use Nadjia as that will provide a very strong alternate because of

For M+ as Venthyr, you should use Nadjia as its a very flexible soulbind that can still output high damage.
Once you reach Renown 60 or above, you start to gain Empowered Conduit slots. These are conduit slots that increase the level of the conduit slotted by two. To help priortize which conduits should be empowered first, you want to follow the conduit guide but conduits like

Venthyr Protection Paladin Covenant Rotation Changes

is not a rotational ability. It is a burst DPS button. You should use it on cooldown and even plan around using it during a high burst damage phase like you would

. When you overlap

and
复仇之怒
, cast
红烬圣土
first. Since it has a cast time, you won't lose DPS from lost Avenging Wrath uptime.

Venthyr Protection Paladin Gearing Differences
Selecting Venthyr as your covenant will not have an impact on your gear choices. You'll still want to gear with the general gearing strategy:
Item Level > Haste > Mastery > Versatility > Critical Strike.

Venthyr Protection Paladin Soulbinds Explained
Soulbinds are a progression system in Shadowlands that you'll unlock as you complete story and weekly quests from your Covenant Hall. Here are recommended paths for each Soulbind you'll unlock as a member of the Venthyr. With each bind, I've included notes on what you can switch and what conduits to use.
Nadjia is your first soulbind as a Venthyr. She is a strong soulbind in situations with movement.
兴奋追猎者
offers periodic Haste. It will be easier to gain the prerequisite stacks in dungeons because you'll be killing trash and getting credit for

You can use

for crowd control or even interrupts in dungeons.

is just a passive increase to stuff you should be using already.
For Single Target DPS, you can switch over to

and pick up

as the conduit above it.

is a nice trait that isn't mandatory. It just adds a bit to consumables you should be using already. You'll likely skip this because it has a Finesse slot attached.
轻盈步
could be nice for kiting but will generally be non-impactful. You'll use this path for the Endurance conduit.

is a bonus to supplement

and makes this soulbind more effective. Since its % based, it's very strong.
Theotar will be a good soulbind to use from time to time especially in situations with very little movement like raiding.
The Mastery bonus from

is a nice proc that will give you survivability and damage. This is stationary so if you have to move, you lose the buff/proc.
You get an extra root and snare removal with
看好脚下！
. This can help supplement
自由祝福
and give you flexibility to use it on allies more often.

is just a passive DPS increase that increases the effectiveness of your potions / consumables.

is a group utility that will just constantly shield your healers. It also comes with another potency slot as mentioned.

is a group utility trait that increases damage of you and your mates.

is a passive bonus to supplement

. It will show strong value when you can stay still and don't need to move that much.

is just a passive trait that comes with an Endurance conduit.

is a trait that gives you an item that is not tradable, not consumed on use, has a 1-hour cooldown, and is lost when you swap soulbinds. The stat granted is random.
Draven in 9.1 is now more oriented for pushing M+ keys.
岩石效命
is really good as an effective health gain as it works against all damage including magic and bleeds.
持续阴霾
adds some defensive value to Door of Shadows.
坚守阵地
is a solid defensive trait soulbind. Being paired with a Potency slot is a bonus.
高级战术
is a nice trait in Mythic+ to get a damage bonus from interrupting!
再生石肤
is passive healing that will happen quite often as a tank.

is a low value trait that won't be that effective. You can skip this trait.
战场气息
is a passive trait that will give some passive damage, healing and damage reduction. It's recommended to have 3 stacks as much as you can.
Double Legendaries for Venthyr Protection Paladin
Patch 9.2 adds the option of using two legendaries at the same time, with the restriction that one of them is your Covenant legendary. This change empowers Venthyr Protection Paladin even more. You can learn more about it in our Legendary Guide.
