Kyrian Windwalker Monk Covenant Abilities
Kyrian Windwalker Monk Class Ability
The Kyrian Class Ability for Monks of all specializations is
; a 2-minute cooldown that, for Windwalkers, provides 12.5% Mastery,
gives a buff that reduces the cost of all Chi-spenders by 1, and
reduces the cooldown of
and
by 2 seconds rather than 1.
This is the Covenant that has the most "going on", but it doesn't dramatically change how Windwalkers play during the buff. You will look to fit in as many
as possible, get every
into the
chi-cost-reducing buff, and fill with
and
to keep resources up and reduce the other cooldowns as much as possible.
This is currently the strongest Covenant ability for most purposes, especially given its cooldown synergy with
and
to give it a little bit more "oomph". However, the relative difficulty to maximizing
compared to other Covenants means that many players may see better performance by not being Kyrian.
Kyrian Conduit for
The
conduit for
provides more Mastery during the duration of
, which just further cements that you'll want to continue alternating abilities and obeying the Mastery. The extra duration isn't as important since it already lasts longer than Xuen does and its 30s baseline duration is as long as two
casts. Generally a strong conduit to use for general purposes.

Kyrian Windwalker Monk Signature Ability
The Kyrian Signature Ability for Monks of all specializations is
. This summons a little steward that provides some different things like a free talent change or a vendor. The big draw, however, is
, which is a healing potion that does not share the same cooldown as health potions.
The potion also removes bleeds, which can be useful in raid and several dungeons where bleeds are prevalent.
Kyrian Exclusive Legendary for Windwalker Monks
The Kyrian exclusive legendary for Monks is
. This works by summoning a copy of Xuen when you cast
who acts the same as a normal Xuen does. and lasts for 12 seconds. The one caveat is that the
Xuen and the regular Xuen don't play nice together, so when they each cast
every 4 seconds, they only deal 10% of the damage done since the last
cast, regardless of who cast it. This means that if they're offset by 2 seconds there will be a
cast every 2 seconds until one despawns. This doesn't strictly gain or lose damage overall, its just an odd interaction.
With the addition of
in 9.2, you can, and should use
in the Belt slot with
in the Helm or Cloak slot, if you need the Helm slot for the Tier bonus.
Other Legendary Interactions for Kyrian Windwalker Monk
The only interaction between Kyrian and legendaries worth noting is the power of using
with
. Due to the fact that
works when you use
and
has the same cooldown as
, it dramatically increases the potential power of
and
if you choose Kyrian. The increased haste further reduces the cooldown of
and
which increases the strength of the additional cooldown reduction provided by
during
.

Best Kyrian Windwalker Monk Renown 80 Soulbind
At maximum Renown, Forgelight Prime Mikanikos becomes the best Soulbind for Kyrian Windwalker Monk. This is due to the access to three potency slots and very strong capstone ability in
.

While its technically true that there is a “perfect” rotation for
; what that rotation is will depend on a large amount of factors: Haste %,
vs No
,
vs No
, Level 15 Talents, Level 30 Talents, Level 45 Talents, how many targets, how many stacks of
you have, and more. This large variance makes it functionally impossible for us to tell you exactly the best thing you should be doing in each situation. So, to best explain how things work, we’re providing a priority list, similar to the one that we have in the PvE Guide. Simply press the highest priority thing and try to avoid delaying something higher priority by using something lower priority.

There is no change to how we set up our talents for Kyrian, you'll still set up your talents like this:
Tier 1 (lv15) – Personal preference for single target;
for anything with more than one target
Tier 2 (lv25) – Personal Preference
Tier 3 (lv30) – Personal Preference for single target
Tier 4 (lv35) – Personal Preference;
or
as reasonable defaults
Tier 5 (lv40) –
for physical,
for magic damage
Tier 6 (lv45) –
for AOE content;
for single target or mixed content
Tier 7 (lv50) –
for all situations

Similar to Rotations and Talents, choosing Kyrian doesn't currently have any effect on what you're looking to do with your gear.

Kyrian Windwalker Monk Soulbinds Explained
Across all classes and specs, Kyrians have access to the same three soulbinds:
Pelagos
,
Kleia
and
Forgelite Prime Mikanikos
. They are the NPCs with whom you complete the zone story, and they allow you to "attune" yourself to them to gain access to a tree of upgrades centered around your base toolkit (through Conduits) and Covenant abilities (through special game-wide traits).
These trees progressively unlock based on completion steps (such as finishing the campaign) and your Renown level with the Kyrian Covenant.
I have summarized the Soulbinds below, offering example path’s through the trees, and highlighting any key abilities.
Pelagos is generally still strong despite the nerf to his initial slot in 9.1. He lost his spot as the best Soulbind, but is still very strong.
- Starting the Soulbind path with this gives you a boost of Mastery on top of what you're already getting, further increasing the burst potential of this Covenant.
Pelagos provides two Potency slots, one Endurance slot, a choice between all three slots, and two choices between Endurance and Finesse slots.
- As a Windwalker, you're already going to be alternating abilities, so this is essentially free damage reduction.
- This isn't the easiest thing to find and see, so maximizing it in the heat of battle may be difficult, but it is a decent amount of damage if you can.
An example of an "ideal" path for Pelagos follows:
Kleia functions as the "utility" or "group benefit" Soulbind for the Kyrian.
- Windwalkers Crit a reasonable amount of times, but not a ton, so this isn't going to exactly save your raid with a crazy amount of healing, but its better than nothing.
Kleia provides access to one Potency slot, one Endurance slot, a choice between a Potency slot and an Endurance slot, a choice between all three, and a choice between one Endurance slot and one Finesse slot.
Kleia's final row provides some choice and difference to what option is the best. You will choose the Potency Conduit and get
or an Endurance Conduit and get
. Which one you'll choose will depend on what you'd use in that Potency Conduit slot and whether it will outweigh the Critical Strike increase from
.
- A little more crit isn't a bad thing, but it's not enough to push Kleia into consideration.
An example of an "ideal" path for Kleia is:
Forgelite Prime Mikanikos had been a "utility" soulbind, but with significant buffs in 9.1 it is now the best soulbind for Kyrian DPS.
- 75 damaging or healing spells is a lot to get this benefit, and being that Windwalker is one of the specs with the lowest Actions per Minute, it should be tough to get a lot of use out of this. However, due to the way this ability considers damaging and healing spells, Windwalkers can actually summon Bron with medium frequency. The biggest benefit for Windwalkers is that Bron currently scales with both Attack Power and Spell Power, which for Windwalkers is just another modified form of Attack Power, leading to him being stronger than many other non-hybrid classes.
Forgelite Prime Mikanikos provides to one Potency slot, one Endurance slot, one choice between a Potency and an Endurance slot, a choice between all three, and a choice between an Endurance slot and a Finesse slot.
Forgelite Prime Mikanikos's final slot is what has made him the most desirable for DPS in 9.1.
is relatively uneventful in single target, as most times you'll still want to hold
for
. However, in AOE situations it can reduce the cooldown of
by 40 seconds very easily, which translates into a lot more frequent
for many more trash packs.
Double Legendaries for Kyrian Windwalker Monk
Patch 9.2 adds the option of using two legendaries at the same time, with the restriction that one of them is your Covenant legendary. This change empowers Kyrian Windwalker Monk even more. You can learn more about it in our Legendary Guide.
